Description
Bottom rule

WebSphere Message Broker V7.0 is easier to install and configure than previous versions because there are fewer product components and prerequisite products to handle. The broker database, Configuration Manager, and User Name Server are removed -- without a reduction in functionality. It is no longer necessary to install an IBM DB2® product on z/OS. WebSphere MQ V7.0.1 is now the only prerequisite product.

On distributed platforms, WebSphere Message Broker is available in four modes of operation, with options for capacity and functionality (priced accordingly), that allow you to adopt the product incrementally. The modes are:

  • Trial Edition, which allows you to use the product as a free, 90-day download.
  • Starter Edition, an initial deployment that allows one execution group and up to 10 message flows.
  • Remote Adapter Deployment for use with the WebSphere Adapters for SAP Software, PeopleSoft Enterprise, and Siebel Business Applications with the adapter and transport nodes in two execution groups and Java for transformation facilities.
  • Enterprise Edition for an established deployment with the full scope of features and unrestricted capacity.

The single product package allows you to move progressively between the modes by using the mqsimode command. The WebSphere Message Broker toolkit applies to all modes and there is a single service package for ease of maintenance. Compliance checking is performed on each mode and the user is told if they are operating in an unlicensed mode, with a controlled shutdown of the product in such a situation. Icons within the administration tooling and start-up messages clearly indicate the mode of operation being used.

The WebSphere Message Broker Explorer allows you to manage Message Broker and WebSphere MQ artefacts from within a single console. The Explorer is based on the existing WebSphere MQ Explorer, which means that your staff do not need to learn new skills to be able to use it. It can be applied to message flows that are already defined and used in previous versions of WebSphere Message Broker.

WebSphere Message Broker supports patterns-based development so that you can create more connectivity solutions such as Web Service facades, message-oriented processing, and queue-to-file operations. The Patterns Explorer contains an inventory of key Message Broker patterns that are available to help you generate solutions. The pattern generation facility gives a simple way of creating message flows, message sets, and mappings from supplied patterns.

Together, WebSphere MQ and WebSphere Message Broker deliver a comprehensive publish and subscribe facility, connecting Message Broker's broad transport and format support to WebSphere MQ's messaging backbone. WebSphere Message Broker extends the WebSphere MQ publish and subscribe functionality with advanced function such as content-based publish and subscribe by means of an enhanced Publication node. The two products share a common publish and subscribe domain for topic- and content-based operations. There is a migration process for publish and subscribe items from previous versions of WebSphere Message Broker and WebSphere Event Broker.

The SAP, Siebel, and PeopleSoft nodes have been enhanced to simplify promotion through the test, quality assurance, and production life-cycle phases through a new configurable service. The SAP nodes have a single program ID to allow multiple IDocs to be handled by different message flows, synchronous RFC (sRFC) via the new SAP Reply node, and high availability through SAP Input nodes.

The SCA Input, SCA Reply, SCA Request, and SCA Response nodes allow WebSphere Message Broker to interoperate with WebSphere Process Server, in line with the SCA.

The Resequence node collects messages according the sequence number location within the message. The Sequence node allows users to create new sequences and sequence groups.

The PHPCompute node allow users to express message transformations quickly and easily through the PHP dynamic scripting language.

WebSphere Service Registry and Repository (WSRR) nodes deliver integrated support for WebSphere Service Registry and Repository, allowing WebSphere Message Broker to use entity (document) information for routing, dynamic transformation, and other types of policy processing in up-to-date memory cache. WSRR nodes also support the WebSphere MQ Service Definition (in addition to Web services).

The IMSRequest node allows message flows to call IMS™ transactions and handle their responses, delivering high-performance, synchronous, multiplatform access to IMS. The IMS node also exploits the IMS TM Resource Adapter, where Configurable Services allow operational control of the IMS connection configuration. (IBM Information Management System (IMS), V9.1.0 must be installed.)

WebSphere Message Broker V7.0 exploits the multi-instance queue manager capability that is delivered in WebSphere MQ V7.0.1, where WebSphere MQ provides basic failover support without the need for a separate High Availability coordinator. In most topologies, a separate High Availability coordinator (for example, IBM HACMP™) is no longer required.

WebSphere Message Broker V7.0 allows you to generate monitoring and audit events from message flows. Nodes have a Monitoring function that allows you to generate events, including those that monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) from WebSphere Business Monitor.

Performance improvements include response times and memory and storage usage. The footprint of the runtime component is reduced in terms of installation-time disk space and start-up memory size.

The WebSphere Message Broker toolkit has impact analysis functions that allows users to see how changes to assets (for example, ESQL data, maps, XML, flows, and nodes) might affect an application, through a compile, test, and fix life cycle before changes are deployed.

Enhanced statistics, an extension of current accounting and statistical information, allow operational staff to interpret the behavior of deployed broker solutions so that they can understand operational characteristics without having to refer to complex development items. The statistics provide comprehensive reports of resources such as WebSphere MQ, JMS, HTTP, files, databases, and parsers. Reporting mechanisms include a user-configurable reporting interval and metrics (typically counts, maximum, minimum, and averages of activities such as memory usage, requests processed, and thread counts).

Migration

The HP-UX on PA-RISC platform is no longer supported but WebSphere Message Broker V7.0 delivers a migration path to the HP-UX on Itanium® platform. Other WebSphere Message Broker artefacts from V6.0 and V6.1 (for example, message flows, message sets, ESQL data, Java, maps, and XSLT) are migrated without change. Existing 32-bit execution groups are migrated automatically to 64-bit.

Migration commands handle configuration data (for example: broker databases, queues, and registry). WebSphere Message Broker V7.0 can coexist with V6.0 and V6.1 to enable incremental migration.

Platform support

In addition to functional enhancements, WebSphere Message Broker V7.0 supports and exploits current platforms and operating environments. Java 6 is available on all supported platforms, delivering a 64-bit IBM J9 engine for better Java performance -- including reduced start-up time and footprint. Execution group size is 64-bit, as are all commands and z/OS address spaces. Microsoft® Windows® support remains as 32-bit but can be run on 64-bit hardware. Current® levels of industry-standard databases (DB2, Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, and IBM Informix®) are supported.

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

WebSphere Message Broker is capable, as of December 4, 2009, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it. A U.S. Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT), containing details on the products accessibility compliance, can be requested at

http://www.ibm.com/able/product_accessibility/index.html

Value Unit-based pricing

Value Unit pricing for eligible IBM System z® IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each System z IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly, Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description.

Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for you. For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three digit code.

Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offer additional price benefits. The quantity of each System z IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as entitled license capacity. If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for a System z IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired.

For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:

  • Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs
  • Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise
  • Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost

To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to Value Units or vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. For additional information or to obtain a copy of the Value Unit Converter Tool, visit the Value Unit Converter Tool Web site

http://ibm.com/zseries/swprice/vuctool

Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product.

To determine the required license capacity for the System z IPLA program you selected, refer to the Terms and conditionssection.

SOA and an ESB

In an SOA, a connectivity layer often referred to as an ESB optimizes information distribution between service requesters and service providers. Each enterprise can deploy its own unique ESB, reflecting how far it has advanced toward becoming an On Demand Business.

As key members of the WebSphere software portfolio, WebSphere MQ and WebSphere Message Broker enable you to begin deploying or widening the deployment of your ESB today.

Some businesses may find that simple messaging-based connectivity between well-matched applications provides the aspects of integration that they require to implement an effective ESB. Other businesses may find that to extend these capabilities into their wider deployed infrastructure, they realize value of other parts of the WebSphere software portfolio.

These programs help maximize the value of your IT investment by broadening the range of environments this connectivity layer can reach, such as hardware and operating system platforms and non-standards-based programming models as well as J2EE and .NET.

For connecting these diverse programming models there needs to be proven delivery of messages and data between the applications. The proven delivery mechanisms of WebSphere MQ and WebSphere Application Server can extend the standards-based ESB with reliable connectivity throughout the enterprise. WebSphere Application Server messaging resources provide an optimal JMS implementation for use with J2EE-hosted applications. WebSphere MQ seamlessly extends those messaging resources to non-J2EE environments to integrate with virtually anything, across more than 80 platform configurations.

WebSphere Message Broker adds services such as message routing, transformation enrichment, and support for a range of message distribution options and protocols to improve their flexibility and performance. You can integrate many application types on a wide range of systems, exchanging their data together in real time.

WebSphere software delivers integration capabilities that enable you to begin reaping the benefits of SOA with connectivity and integration through an ESB today.

IBM can help you to grow project-by-project toward an On Demand Business. WebSphere MQ, WebSphere Application Server, and WebSphere Message Broker play a pivotal role in creating SOA solutions. It will continue to do so as IBM delivers enhanced capabilities to accelerate the deployment of an integration infrastructure that spans the entire IT ecosystem.

Planning information

Customer responsibilities

You must provide at least the minimum hardware and software environments in which the licensed programs operate.

Problem determination (PD) is a customer responsibility. PD is an assessment of whether a problem is caused by hardware or software. It is complete only when the cause of the problem is identified. This assessment includes examination of available symptoms using the PD procedures documented in the product.

Problem source identification (PSI) is a customer responsibility. PSI begins when software is determined to be the source of the problem. It includes tracing the source of the program to a host system control program (SCP), an application program, or another source. Assisting the client with PSI is an IBM service and support responsibility.

WebSphere Adapters

WebSphere Adapters are packaged, ordered, and provided with WebSphere Message Broker.

WebSphere Adapters V7.0 are licensed with each IBM application program that packages the adapter components. The terms of these programs complement and, if necessary, override the license terms of WebSphere Adapters. Refer to the WebSphere Message Broker program-unique terms to determine whether a separate license authorization is required to deploy and run each WebSphere Adapter.

When deploying WebSphere Adapter components for SAP, Siebel, or PeopleSoft to WebSphere Message Broker, you must purchase a separate license entitlement for the appropriate WebSphere Adapter for all usages except unit testing. Refer to the Ordering information section for the license part numbers.

Charge metrics definitions for WebSphere Adapters:

  • Per establishment. If you have acquired an establishment authorization, you are permitted to deploy an unlimited number of copies of the licensed program only on servers that are located at a single site and at locations within 50 kilometers (31 miles) of that site.
  • Per application instance. If you have acquired a per-application-instance authorization, you are permitted to deploy and run an unlimited number of copies of the licensed program on a single instance of a software deployment server supported by the program.

The charge units used for WebSphere Message Broker for z/OS are based on Value Units, depending on the Measured System Usage (MSU) level of the server on which the Message Broker is installed. MSU tiers are applied and the cumulative Value Unit/MSU rate determines the charge.

For information on value units, refer to the Ordering information section.

Entry option for z800 and z900 servers

WebSphere Message Broker for z/OS is eligible for the Entry Option for z800 and z900 servers pricing. The Addendum for zSeries® WebSphere Platform Products Entry Option (Z125-6851) must be signed. For more information refer to Software Announcement 203-093, dated April 8, 2003.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which this software product can be licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor technology (defined within the PVU table* by processor vendor, brand, type and model number). IBM continues to define a processor, for purposes of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. Each software product has a unique price per PVU. To determine the total cost of deploying an individual software product in a specific hardware environment, you must take the following steps:

  1. For each processor core in the hardware environment on which the software product is to be licensed, determine the PVU requirement based on its processor technology per the PVU table1
  2. The PVU requirements for all processor cores in the hardware environment.
  3. Multiply the software product's price per PVU by the total number of PVUs required as determined in step 2 above.

PVU entitlements are specific to a software product and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another software product.

Unless you have deployed eligible sub-capacity products according to the sub-capacity1 terms, you must obtain PVU Proof of Entitlements (PoEs) for the maximum number of activated2 physical processor cores in the hardware environment made available to, or managed by, the software product. This is also referred to as full capacity licensing.

1
For information regarding PVU and sub-capacity licensing, including the latest PVU table, visit
http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/ pvu_licensing_for_customers.html
2
Activated processor cores are physical processor cores that are available for use in a server. They include processor cores:
  • That are activated (available for use) when the server is shipped by the manufacturer
  • That are activated subsequently through activation codes purchased from the server manufacturer by the customer
  • Whose capacity can be limited by the customer through virtualization technologies, operating system commands and BIOS settings.

Ordering example

The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example.

If your required license capacity is 1,500 MSUs for your selected System z IPLA product, the applicable Value Units would be:

Translation from MSUs to Value Units

          MSUs * Value Units/MSU = Value Units
Base 3 * 1.00 = 3.00
Tier A 42 * .45 = 18.90
Tier B 130 * .36 = 46.80
Tier C 140 * .27 = 37.80
Tier D 1,185 * .20 = 237.00

Total 1,500 343.50

When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer.

Subscription and Support

To receive voice technical support via telephone and future releases and versions at no additional charge, Subscription and Support must be ordered. The capacity of Subscription and Support (Value Units) must be the same as the capacity ordered for the product licenses.

To order, specify the Subscription and Support program number (PID) referenced above and the appropriate license or charge option.

IBM is also providing Subscription and Support for these products via a separately purchased offering under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (IAASM). This offering:

  • Includes and extends the support services provided in the base support to include technical support via telephone.
  • Entitles you to future releases and versions, at no additional charge. Note that you are not entitled to new products.

When Subscription and Support is ordered, the charges will renew automatically annually unless cancelled by you.

The combined effect of the IPLA license and the Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance gives you rights and support services comparable to those under the traditional ICA S/390® and zSeries license or its equivalent. To ensure that you continue to enjoy the level of support you are used to in the ICA business model, you must order both the license for the program and the support for the selected programs at the same Value Unit quantities.

Single version charging

To elect single version charging, you must notify and identify to IBM the prior program and replacement program, and the machine the programs are operating on.

Customized Offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only via Customized Offerings (for example, CBPDO, ServerPac, SystemPac®).

CBPDO and ServerPac are offered for Internet delivery, where ShopzSeries product ordering is available. Internet delivery of ServerPac may help improve automation and software delivery time. For more details on Internet delivery, refer to the ShopzSeries help information at

http://www.software.ibm.com/ShopzSeries

Media type for this software product is chosen during the Customized Offerings ordering process. Based on your customer environment, it is recommended that the highest possible density tape media is selected. Currently offered media types are:

  • CBPDOs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, and 35923
  • ServerPacs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, and 35923
  • SystemPacs - 3480, 3480 Compressed, 3490E, 3590, and 35923
3
3592 is highest density media. Selecting 3592 will ship the fewest number of media.

Once a product becomes generally available, it will be included in the next ServerPac and SystemPac monthly update.

Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.
  • ServerPac shipments will begin two weeks after inclusion in ServerPac.
  • SystemPac shipments will begin four weeks after inclusion in SystemPac due to additional customization, and data input verification.

Sub-capacity terms and conditions

For each System z IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

  • The System z IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable terms
  • Whether your current mainframes are full capacity or sub-capacity

For more information on the Value Unit Exhibit for the System z IPLA program you selected, refer to the Ordering information section.

number Program name Terms if applicable

5655-V60 WebSphere Message Execution-Based N/A
           Broker for z/OS

Full-capacity mainframes

In cases where full capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution-based, z/OS-based , full-machine-based: The required capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, visit

http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/library/swpriceinfo/

Reference-based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Sub-capacity mainframes

In cases where sub-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution-based: The required capacity of a System z IPLA sub-capacity program with these terms equals the capacity of the LPARs where the System z IPLA program executes.

z/OS-based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of z/OS (and z/OS.e) on the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

Reference-based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Full-machine-based: The required license capacity of a System z IPLA program with full-machine-based terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the System z IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, refer to The System/370™, System/390®, and System z Machine Exhibit (Z125-3901), or visit the Mainframes section of the System z Exhibits Web site

http://ibm.com/zseries/library/swpriceinfo/

For more information on sub-capacity System z IPLA terms and conditions, refer to Software Announcement 204-184, dated August 10, 2004.

For additional information for products with reference-based terms, System z IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms adds value to the parent program across the environment, regardless of where in the environment the System z IPLA program executes.

An environment is defined as either a single or stand-alone machine or a qualified Parallel Sysplex®. You may have one or more different environments across the enterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each System z IPLA program with referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.

When a System z IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used in a qualified Parallel Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of the System z IPLA program must equal with the license capacity of the parent program across the Parallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one:

  • That meets the criteria defined in Hardware Announcement 198-001, dated January 13, 1998
  • Where MLC pricing is aggregated across the Sysplex
Sub-capacity eligibility

To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select System z IPLA programs, you must first implement and comply with all terms of either sub-capacity Workload License Charges (WLC) or sub-capacity Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC). To implement sub-capacity WLC or EWLC, a machine must be System z (or equivalent). On that machine:

  • All instances of the OS/390® operating system must be migrated to the z/OS (or z/OS.e) operating systems
  • Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued
  • All instances of the z/OS operating (or z/OS.e) systems must be running in z/Architecture® (64-bit) mode

For that machine, you must create and submit a Sub-Capacity Report to IBM each month. Sub-Capacity Reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool (SCRT). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, visit the System z Software Pricing Web site

http://ibm.com/zseries/swprice

You must comply with all of the terms of the WLC or EWLC offering, whichever is applicable:

  • The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity WLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for System z Workload License Charges (Z125-6516).
  • The complete terms and conditions for sub-capacity EWLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for IBM eServer System z 890 and 800 License Charges (Z125-6587).

Additionally, you must sign and comply with the terms and conditions specified in the amendment to the IPLA contract - Amendment for IBM System z9® and eServer zSeries Programs Sub-Capacity Pricing (Z125-6929). Once the amendment is signed, the terms in the amendment replace any and all previous System z IPLA sub-capacity terms and conditions.

IBM Getting Started Sub-capacity Pricing for z/OS IPLA Software applies.

Sub-capacity utilization determination

Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the product's own execution as reported to IBM in accordance with the requirements for reporting sub-capacity utilization for products.

On/Off Capacity on Demand (CoD)

To be eligible for On/Off CoD pricing, you must be enabled for temporary capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract, Attachment for Customer Initiated Upgrade and IBM eServer On/Off Capacity on Demand - Software (Z125-6611) must be signed prior to use.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
