3DLive license management model: 3DLive is licensed based on the number of named users, as defined in the Supplemental terms section. The named user license management can be implemented through one of two types of LUM license keys: nodelocked or served. 3DLive delivers identical license management mechanisms on UNIX® and Windows environments, based on LUM.

The following license management principles apply:

Each 3DLive orderable configuration and product requires a LUM license key, and either nodelocked or served LUM license keys can be provided. The 3DLive server configurations (LIX and VAR) each require a LUM Nodelocked license installed on the machine where the server is running.

Nodelock usage: Only one 3DLive license key per configuration or product can be registered per machine, and only one 3DLive named user can run at a time on that machine. 3DLive LUM keys, like all LUM V5 keys, only work on the release for which they were created. When installing a future release, the customer should contact the key center for a release refresh key.

Served license key usage: Each 3DLive configuration or product requires one key for each named user. The customer will be issued LUM license keys in an amount equal to the number of named users. 3DLive LUM keys, like all LUM V5 keys, only work on the release for which they were created. When installing a future release, the customer should contact the key center for a release refresh key.

Customization option: Feature number 3444 is used for serial number purposes only. No media or documentation will ship with an initial or MES order.

Product ordering: As part of continued IBM supply chain re-engineering efforts, PLM software fulfillment migrated from the current US and Canadian systems to the worldwide Cross Brand Solutions/Entitled Software (CBS/ESW) system, effective May 1, 2007. CBS/ESW is based on Systems Applications Products (SAP). Under CBS/ESW, more descriptive nomenclature and a more detailed product structure replaces the previous nomenclature and feature number structure. The new structure shows a product's chargeable components with explicit descriptions of each.

The new process supports:

  • Order configuration, pricing, and submission
  • Order completion and confirmation
  • Online order tracking
  • Contract management
  • Billing and invoicing
  • Reports, controls, and measurements

The changes affect order and delivery documents. Specific improvements include:

  • Configurator output, proposals, and announcement materials use business text.
  • Orders are identified by an SAP order number and will use business text to describe the contents of the order.
  • Feature numbers are replaced by an entitlement entity number, which expands into product characteristics and values.
  • Orders can be tracked online via the Integrated Order Status (IOS) Web site.
  • Invoices will reference purchase order numbers to facilitate reconciliation with contract, order, and delivery records.

Because it employs a process that has already been implemented for other major IBM products, these enhancements improve order responsiveness, reduce cycle times, and provide consistency with other IBM brands.

To enable the new system, all 5691 and 5693 prefixed order numbers have been replaced with 5671 and 5673 prefixed order numbers, and 5672 and 5674 prefixed order numbers are used for new products.

The table below compares the new terms used in the example and for other ordering and delivery documents with their legacy system equivalent.

                                       characteristics and values
                                       that define the license options
                                       and pricing metrics associated
                                       with it. Currently, these are
                                       defined by feature numbers.

Program services: Program services offer a method of reporting code-related problems for 3DLive licensed software products. Program services are available electronically using the problem submission process at the PLM Technical Support Web site at

Note: In order to use this facility, you must use an IBM ID which has associated to it the licensed IBM customer number under which the product was purchased. If you have not yet obtained an IBM ID, visit

If you have not yet associated the licensed IBM customer number to your IBM ID, you will be prompted to do so when accessing the problem submission facility.

When using program services, the problem report is submitted via the PLM Technical Support Web site; all subsequent communications from the support personnel will be via e-mail. If you are entitled to support for a 3DLive product you may also view and update your problem records via the Web site; this applies to all problem records for any PLM product.

The response time for these problem reports, regardless of the severity, will be within two business days. All communications must be in English.

Not all options of the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) technical support e-services are available in all countries.

During the program services period individual fix packages may be provided for critical situations (for code defects, based on technical feasibility, where a search for a work-around has been performed and was unsuccessful, and where an impact analysis has shown no risk of destabilization). These fix packages are called Hot Fixes and are a cumulative collection of fixes for each release; each Hot Fix package supersedes the previous one and may be installed on top of the released level or on top of a previous Hot Fix package. Hot Fixes are provided at the same time for all platforms currently supported. Fixes for all other code defects will be provided in a future release of the product.

Customers experiencing problems with IBM License Use Management (LUM) products when used with 3DLive products may report these problems through PLM product support. Note this only applies when the LUM product is being used in conjunction with a 3DLive product and the 3DLive product is within its support period.

End of support for 3DLive V6R2008-1.0 (R602) will be January 25, 2009.

For a list of all currently supported releases of CATIA, ENOVIA VPLM, ENOVIA SmarTeam, and 3DLive products visit

At the bottom of the page, select "End of support dates" under Plan, Product life cycle.

PLC/ALC: Customers who pay a PLC and an ALC for a licensed program receive enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional charge. Significant new functions may be offered as an optional feature and charged for separately. If a replacement program is announced and the customer elects to license the replacement program for a PLC/ALC and replace the prior program, an upgrade charge may apply.

The first payment consists of the primary license charge and the annual license charge. The annual license charge applies yearly thereafter.

Program upgrade charge

Use level charge: Charges for this program are based on usage levels. When a customer upgrades to a higher level of usage, a usage upgrade charge will apply, equal to the difference between the charge for the current level of usage and the higher level of usage.

Use-based charges/usage restrictions: Charges for this program are based on the number of Named Users who are authorized to log on. The total number of Named Users may not exceed the number for which you have been authorized. If the total number exceeds your authorization, you must notify IBM and obtain additional authorizations.

Compliance verification: For purposes of this section, "program terms" means terms applicable to 3DLive programs in the agreement and any applicable transaction documents, attachments and specifications (including this one). Upon reasonable notice, IBM may verify your compliance with program terms at all site and for all environments in which you use or install the 3DLive programs (whether for testing or productive use or otherwise). Such verification will be conducted during your normal business hours and in a manner that minimizes disruption to your business. IBM may use an independent auditor to assist with such verification, provided IBM has a written confidentiality agreement in place with such auditor. As reasonably necessary to verify your use and installation of the 3DLive programs and your compliance with the Program Terms, you agree to:

  1. Create, retain, and provide to IBM and its auditors written and other records, system tools outputs, and other electronic or hard copy system information, including information regarding the system configurations on which the 3DLive Programs operate; and
  2. Permit IBM and its auditors to be present and observe while you access machines to provide such records, outputs and other system information. IBM will notify you in writing if any such verification indicates that you are not in compliance with the Program Terms. You agree to promptly pay any additional charges and other liabilities you become obligated to pay based on its use and deployment of 3DLive programs or your failure to comply with the program terms at any time during the period such 3DLive programs are licensed to you. The rights and obligations in this section remain in effect during the period such 3DLive programs are licensed to you and for two years thereafter. This section applies to all 3DLive programs licensed within your enterprise, including any licensed under separate Attachments and Transaction Documents, notwithstanding any contrary audit provisions that may be contained in them.
