Overview
IBM Usage and Accounting Manager Virtualization Edition for System p V7.1 (UAV) is a powerful usage management tool designed to provide usage-based reports for System p servers. It helps businesses determine their System p server usage with features designed to accurately measure, analyze, and report system utilization. It is a platform management product, especially of value to IT shops employing System p servers to run virtualized or consolidated workloads.
The usage data collected from a System p server is organized and presented as reporting information that helps you track usage of a System p server. The information reports how much resource (for example, CPU minutes, disk storage, I/O, and so on) has been used by each user and application for a specific System p server especially valuable information for systems that are shared by departments, services, and so on.
UAV collectors provide rich System p resource usage data. It offers data collectors for AIX® (including support for AIX Advanced Accounting), Red Hat Linux, and SUSE Linux operating systems. Through the Advanced Accounting feature, you can collect usage data for Workload Partitions and the Virtual I/O Server.
Integration with Tivoli® Usage and Accounting Manager Enterprise Edition: IBM Usage and Accounting Manager Virtualization Edition for System p provides seamless integration into IBM Tivoli Usage and Accounting Manager Enterprise Edition V7.1.
As background, IBM Tivoli Usage and Accounting Manager Enterprise Edition V7.1 is a powerful cost management tool designed to provide usage-based accounting and charging for IT system resources. It helps businesses determine their IT infrastructure costs with features designed to accurately measure, analyze, report, and bill the utilization and costs of computing resources such as servers, storage, networks, databases, messaging, and many other shared services. It is a cross-platform product, especially of value to IT shops with multi-platform heterogeneous environments.
The usage data collected is organized and restructured as reporting information that helps you track
and allocate resources. Chargeback, resource accounting, and shared services billing features are
included.

Description
Usage and Accounting Manager Virtualization Edition for System p V7.1 (UAV) is a resource accounting product that enables you to track, manage, and allocate, and bill for IT resources. UAV assists with:
- Usage-based reporting for System p servers
- IT usage allocation and analysis on virtualized and consolidated and shared System p servers
- Application usage on System p servers
- System p resource utilization and capacity reporting
- Easy reporting through a Web interface
UAV consolidates different types of usage metering data into an integrated reporting structure. UAV can then generate reports and summary files that show resource consumption by each user and application specific for a System p server. This information is presented in Web, print, or file formats for easy availability.
UAV V7.1 collectors are the data collection agents that provide the usage data. Collectors are available for multiple System p operating systems platforms and different releases and are designed to consume minimal CPU and storage resources.
UAV V7.1 collectors are targeted to support AIX (including support for AIX Advanced Accounting), Red Hat Linux, and SUSE Linux operating systems.
The IBM Usage and Accounting Manager Virtualization Edition for System p product will contain Administration Server, the central component, consisting of the following:
- UAV Console, a Web-based administrator tool that plugs directly into the standard IBM ISC framework.
- UAV Engine, which consists of many components, including a batch processing facility called Job Runner that launches and controls the underlying processes that convert raw usage data into usable UAV information. UAV engine also contains the main rules engine processing components and other data transformation tools.
- Limited Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT), which provides reporting directly from the database (DB2 or Oracle). The customer should download and install the prerequisite BIRT and database of choice prior to UAV installation. The customer is able to export the data from the reporting engine to PDF or Excel output files for further analysis.
The following collectors are available:
- AIX or Linux File System
- AIX or Linux Operating System (pacct)
- AIX Advanced Accounting including support for WPAR, VIOS, and other Advanced Accounting features

IBM Electronic Services
IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.
The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The Electronic Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
