IBM Rational® Data Architect V7.0 is an enterprise data modeling and integration design tool designed to help data architects understand information assets and their relationships, design federated databases, and streamline database projects. Rational Data Architect provides advanced features to help data architects discover, model, visualize, relate, and develop heterogeneous data assets.
IBM Rational Data Architect gives data professionals the ability to:
- Intelligently design a relational or federated database
- Perform™ impact analysis across models
- Compare and synchronize models to deployed databases
- Create enterprise data standards, verify compliance, and generate compliant models
V7.0 includes many new features and functions that improve productivity, simplify the user experience, and leverage existing investments. New features and functions include:
- Integrations between IBM Rational Data Architect and IBM Rational Software Architect and Modeler

Integrations with Rational Software Architect
Rational Data Architect's integration with IBM Rational Software Architect will enable transformations to and from a Rational Software Architect unified modeling language (UML) model into a Rational Data Architect logical model.
Enhanced mappings
Rational Data Architect V7.0 includes additional mapping capabilities. It now supports logical data model to XML schema mapping. From the logical model, users can create an XML schema definition that can be used to define a service interface about the data exchange between the data source and the SOA application. It also supports logical data model to logical data model mappings.
Support for DB2 V9
Rational Data Architect supports the latest release of DB2 UDB V9 including XML support.
Extended reporting for mapping models
Rational Data Architect's reporting capabilities now include mapping reports, which show the relationships between data assets.
Integration with IBM WebSphere Metadata Server
IBM Rational Data Architect V7.0 integrates with IBM WebSphere Metadata Server and provides bi-directional exchange of glossaries and export of physical data models to the Metadata Server for purpose of reuse by IBM WebSphere DataStage® or IBM WebSphere Information Analyzer.
Expanded RDBMS support
Rational Data Architect expanded RDBMS support includes new support for MySQL. MySQL support is via general JDBC and it uses the JDBC dictionary.
Expanded OS support
IBM Rational Data Architect V7.0 is available for Microsoft™ Windows 32-bit OS, Red Hat 4 and Novell SUSE Linux 10 OS.
Port to Eclipse
Rational Data Architect can be installed on top of an existing Eclipse 3.2 environment or will install its own Eclipse 3.2 instance. This enables shell sharing between Rational Data Architect, Rational Software Architect, and Rational Application Developer. This shell sharing equates to a smaller foot print, less memory, and a simpler user experience.
Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act
IBM Rational Data Architect is capable as of December 15, 2006, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it. A U.S. Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT), containing details on the products accessibility compliance, can be requested at
IPLA and subscription and support considerations
IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. You may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement (PoE). It is your responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.
Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement.
Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

Authorized user
An authorized user is one and only one individual (named or unnamed) within or outside your enterprise. A PoE must be obtained for each individual user accessing the program in any manner. A program licensed under an authorized user PoE may be installed on a single computer or server, and accessed by multiple users, provided that a PoE has been obtained for each individual user accessing the program either directly or indirectly (via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means on behalf of the user.
Floating user
You may utilize the program, including installation of the program on multiple servers, provided that use of the program occurs via a license server, and the total number of concurrent users does not exceed the total number of floating user licenses obtained for the program.
