Overview
IBM WebSphere® Business Monitor lets you monitor business events in real-time by providing key users with a visual display of business process status together with alerts and notifications. WebSphere Business Monitor is tightly integrated with both WebSphere Business Modeler and WebSphere Process Server.
What's new in V6.0.2
- Enhanced Business Activity Monitoring (BAM): Users have the ability to monitor events beyond WebSphere Process Server. By creating an event emitter, any application that is identified as business critical can now be monitored.
- Improved dashboards: The monitor dashboard supports updates to and personalization of key performance indicators (KPI) thresholds.
- WebSphere Business Monitor Development Toolkit: A graphical editor, which allows users to develop and test a monitoring model within the WebSphere Integration Developer environment. Included is one restricted use license of WebSphere Integration Developer. If you require additional development environments for the WebSphere Business Monitor, then you will need to purchase new or use existing licenses of WebSphere Integration Developer.
- Business monitor programming model: A monitoring model can be expressed in XML format.
- Improved administration: Users have a step-by-step guide for deploying a monitoring model.
- Improved versioning support: Users have better control of change management of a monitoring model.
- WebSphere network deployment: Users can install WebSphere Business Monitor in a WebSphere network deployment topology enabling high availability of monitoring models.
- Improved installation: The installation process is simplified and reduces the complexity, size, and duration of the installation.

Description
New features and enhancements in WebSphere Business Monitor V6.0.2
Enhanced Business Activity Monitoring (BAM)
Prior releases limited users to monitoring Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) applications running in WebSphere Process Server. Users now have the ability to monitor events emitted by additional event sources.
Improved dashboards
The monitor dashboard interface has been extended to support updates to and personalization of key performance indicators (KPI) thresholds as expectations and the business environment changes. In addition, KPIs can now be defined with respect to business dimensions such as time period, location, and organization.
WebSphere Business Monitor Development Toolkit
The monitoring model editor lets you use a graphical editor to create and develop a monitoring model in XML. The editor uses monitoring models from the WebSphere Business Modeler as input as well as BPEL events from the WebSphere Integration Developer. In addition, this new editor will allow for users to import Common Base Event (CBE) definitions from any source in order to do a level of business activity monitoring on that source. This tool is targeted for a technical user who is familiar with the events being emitted by the source applications and who can define business requirements for business measures, alerts, and dimensional analysis.
Monitor programming model
The business monitor programming model now allows for a monitoring model to be expressed in an XML format. This provides a well-defined format for describing the processing of events, calculation of business measures, and detection of business situations.
WebSphere Business Monitor now provides a lightweight monitor installation option to accelerate the development and validation of monitoring models. Technical users can quickly make changes to monitoring models, send events to the monitor, and then view the results of processing through a simple user interface.
Improved administration
The administration capabilities now provide users with a step-by-step guide for deploying a monitoring model. In addition to an administration console view, a non-GUI interface allows users the ability to script administration capabilities.
Improved versioning support
Versioning has been enhanced to allow users a better level of change management. When a user makes changes to a monitoring model, they now have the ability to have active instances continue using the old version and new instances using the new version.
WebSphere network deployment
Support for installing WebSphere Business Monitor in a WebSphere network deployment topology is now available. Individual monitoring models can run on separate servers and monitoring servers can be federated into a WebSphere Application Server network deployment cell. New support for clustering of monitoring models provides failover functionality, eliminating single point of failure and ensuring high availability.
Improved installation
The WebSphere Business Monitor V6.0.2 installation process has been simplified to reduce complexity, size, and duration of install. Users have the flexibility to choose existing installations of the prerequisite software, foregoing the installation of the prerequisites from the launchpad. In addition, the installation footprint of prerequisite software and the overall installation time has been significantly reduced.

IBM WebSphere Business Monitor 5724-M24 Value Unit
Charge metrics definitions
Value Unit
A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as users, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements required for your specific implementation of the given program must be obtained from a conversion table associated with the program. You must obtain a Proof of Entitlement (PoE) for the appropriate number of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements of a given program cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program.
Processor (Value Unit)
A processor (commonly called a CPU or core) is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes instructions. A processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic and/or logic unit. With multicore technology, each core is considered a processor. Not all processors require the same number of Value Unit entitlements. To determine the number of Value Unit entitlements required, refer to the processor Value Unit conversion table on the Passport Advantage Web site
With full capacity licensing, a PoE must be acquired for the appropriate number of value units based on all activated processors on the server available to the program or a component of the program.

IBM Electronic Services
IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available on the IBM eServer® platform. These services provide the opportunity for greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent.
IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
