|
For businesses to integrate their applications and business processes, they must first connect their disparate application and information assets within a coherent framework. This connectivity is critical to leverage these assets in new and flexible solutions. WebSphere Adapters service enable your applications so they can participate in a service-oriented architecture (SOA) by providing:
- Service enablement through a standard interface to proprietary implementations
- Service discovery, enabling you to browse, select, and generate service descriptions from the application repository
- Event capture to detect and publish application events
- A range of prebuilt ready-to-go adapters and a toolkit to generate your own custom adapter
WebSphere Adapters V6.0.2 provides a quality out-of-the-box experience for clients wishing to integrate their applications with an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) as part of an SOA approach to business integration. JCA 1.5-compatible adapters are to be packaged with WebSphere Integration Developer, the integrated development environment for both WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus. Clients can also now have SOA solutions backed by first-class IBM support for Oracle E-Business Suite and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, together with e-mail and FTP.
The JCA 1.5 specification, an enhanced feature of J2EE 1.4, provides a solid runtime foundation upon which to deliver adapters. JCA 1.5 introduced the bidirectional exchange of business data and specifies enhanced quality of service features required to address the needs of mission-critical adapter deployments. JCA-compatible adapters also exploit the Enterprise Metadata Discovery (EMD) specification for wizard-driven configuration and the Service Data Objects (SDO) specification for exchanging data.

WebSphere Adapters provide Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) Connector Architecture (JCA) 1.5-compatible adapters and complement the following IBM products:
- WebSphere Process Server
- WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus
- WebSphere Integration Developer
WebSphere Business Integration Adapters complement the following products to enable connectivity to application and information assets:
- WebSphere Process Server
- WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus
- WebSphere Message Broker
- WebSphere Business Integration Message Broker
- WebSphere InterChange Server
- WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation
- WebSphere Information Integrator
Each offering that includes a WebSphere Adapter based on JCA will also include the corresponding WebSphere Business Integration Adapter (if available) and its prerequisite WebSphere Business Integration Adapter Framework. Users requiring either or both adapters for use with any of these integration servers need purchase only the new WebSphere Adapter offering.
Based on their particular requirements, WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus users may prefer the WebSphere Adapters based on JCA. The WebSphere Business Integration Adapters may be preferred by WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus users who require additional function or a lightweight distributed adapter runtime.
Where a new WebSphere Adapter offering is not available, users should continue to purchase the WebSphere Business Integration Adapter which meets their requirements.

WebSphere Adapter for Oracle E-Business Suite V6.0.2 includes the following:

Oracle E-Business Suite is a fully integrated, comprehensive modular suite of business applications for the enterprise. This JCA resource adapter provides support for Interface Tables, Concurrent Programs, PL/SQL APIs, base tables, and views. It supports event polling, database triggers, or Business Event System (BES) for events. The adapter implements EMD to facilitate the generation of service descriptions and configuration artifacts for the adapter.
Use WebSphere Business Integration Adapter for JDBC V2.6 with integration servers other than WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus.

Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is a suite of modular, pre-integrated industry-specific business applications for CRM, SCM, and Financial Management. It is used by organizations that manufacture, construct, distribute, service, or manage products or physical assets. This JCA resource adapter supports the Dynamic Java Connector API with Business Functions, and the XMList query interface. It supports applications running on EnterpriseOne Tools V8.9. The adapter implements EMD to facilitate the generation of service descriptions and configuration artifacts for the adapter. For event handling, WebSphere MQ should be used in conjunction with the realtime events facility provided by JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.

WebSphere Adapter for Email V6.0.2 includes the following:

WebSphere Adapter for Email enables the exchange of business objects with a variety of applications through e-mail messages. It checks the mailboxes on mail servers for e-mail messages, or sends e-mail messages to a mail server, and converts between e-mail messages and business objects. It supports SMTP, POP3, and IMAP, with full access to the message, headers, and attachments, and supports the RFC 822 format. It also provides the ability to specify data bindings for XML or custom data formats.
This JCA resource adapter can be used with applications which do not provide programmable or service interfaces, and for which integration at the data tier is impractical. The adapter implements EMD to facilitate the generation of service descriptions and configuration artifacts for the adapter.
Use WebSphere Business Integration Adapter for Email V5.5 with integration servers other than WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus.

WebSphere Adapter for FTP V6.0.2 includes the following

WebSphere Adapter for FTP enables integration with applications using FTP to send files to and receive files from a remote FTP server. Similar to Flat File, it supports the breadth of FTP client operations (that is, get, put, command scripts), FTPS (SSL), polling for new files, and connections to host and distributed platforms. It also provides the ability to specify data bindings for XML or custom data.
This JCA resource adapter can be used with applications which do not provide programmable or service interfaces, and for which integration at the data tier is impractical. The adapter implements EMD to facilitate the generation of service descriptions and configuration artifacts for the adapter.
Use WebSphere Business Integration Adapter for JText V5.6 to leverage WebSphere Business Integration Data Handlers, or when using integration servers other than WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus.

WebSphere Adapter for Flat Files V6.0.2 includes the following:

WebSphere Adapter for Flat Files enables integration with applications which provide a basic flat file interface. This adapter can be used with applications which do not provide programmable or service interfaces, and for which integration at the data tier is impractical. This JCA resource adapter facilitates the bidirectional exchange of any type of text or binary file, and provides the ability to write to new files, append to or overwrite existing files, poll a directory for new files to deliver to the server, retrieve target files, list the files in a directory, and delete target files. The adapter implements EMD to facilitate the generation of service descriptions and configuration artifacts for the adapter.
Enhancements with V6.0.2 include:
- Delimiter record splitting and custom record splitting
- Support for multiple event directories
- An event option to deliver file reference only rather than the file itself
- Ability to specify XML or custom data formats

WebSphere Adapter for JDBC enables object-oriented integration with applications through the data tier. This adapter can be used with applications which provide specific interface logic within the data tier or those that do not provide programmable or service interfaces. This JCA resource adapter integrates with database management systems through the exchange of relational data including tables, views, and stored procedures, and it provides comprehensive support for create, update, delete, and retrieve operations, among others. The adapter also provides a polling event mechanism to detect and deliver events from any application based on a relational database. The adapter implements EMD to generate service descriptions and configuration artifacts from database tables, views, and stored procedures. The adapter supports any JDBC V2.0, or later driver for features outlined in the adapter user guide.
Enhancements with V6.0.2 include:

The adapter implements EMD to generate service descriptions and configuration artifacts for BAPIs, RFCs, and IDocs.

- IDoc pass-through (no parsing/serializing)
- IDoc batch processing or splitting (bidirectionally)

Use WebSphere Business Integration Adapter for mySAP.com V6.0 with WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus to integrate with SAP applications through additional interfaces, including the Extension Module for advanced event notification and the RFC Server Module for synchronous requests from SAP applications, as well as integration to SAP R/3 V3.1I systems. This adapter should also be used with integration servers other than WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus.

WebSphere Adapter Toolkit V6.0.0.1 enables customers and Business Partners to develop custom adapters to meet unique business requirements. The toolkit helps to create either a basic JCA 1.5 adapter, or an adapter which leverages the additional capabilities of the Adapter Foundation Classes utilized by WebSphere Adapters. The Eclipse-based toolkit includes the following:
- A wizard to create an adapter project including the Java code stubs for the appropriate adapter classes.
- The Adapter Foundation Classes which provide a consistent implementation for WebSphere Adapters based on JCA 1.5.
- A graphical Resource Adapter Deployment Descriptor Editor to ease creation and modification of the XML deployment descriptor file.
- A sample adapter and its associated enterprise application are provided with source. The sample adapter leverages the Adapter Foundation Classes and implements EMD.
Enhancements in V6.0.0.1 include:

Common Criteria — A Common Criteria Initial Assessment was performed by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) Common Criteria Testing Laboratory on WebSphere Adapters V6.0.2. The Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS) lab determined that WebSphere Adapters derived their security functionality from the WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V6.0.2 runtime environment and do not include additional security functionality. Therefore, a Common Criteria evaluation is not necessary because this product is neither Information Assurance (IA) nor IA enabled. WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment technology provides the runtime foundation for the prerequisite WebSphere Process Server V6.0 and WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus V6.0.1.
FIPS 104-2 — The cryptographic functionality of WebSphere Adapters V6.0 is managed by the WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V6.0.2 runtime environment and WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment has been FIPS-140-2 certified. WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment technology provides the runtime foundation for the prerequisite WebSphere Process Server V6.0.

Limited warranty: Yes
Warranty: This program includes a warranty for one year from acquisition from IBM or an authorized IBM Business Partner. For one year from acquisition of the program, this warranty provides the customer with access to databases containing program information and FAQs, including any known fixes to defects, which the customer can download or otherwise obtain and install.
Program technical support: Technical support of a program product will be available for a minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. Customers will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.
Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a refund.
For programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program.

Each WebSphere Adapter based on JCA included in this release is subject to Software Support Lifecycle in accordance with its product release. The specific versions of WebSphere Business Integration Adapter products included with these WebSphere Adapters are subject to Software Support Lifecycle in accordance with the product release shipped. Lifecycle for WebSphere Business Integration Adapter products will continue to be managed separately from the WebSphere Adapter products, and will be listed separately on the IBM Software Support Lifecycle Web site. Software Maintenance applies: Yes
Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software Subscription and Technical Support, is included in the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support is provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations.
IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Maintenance can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.
While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Guide at
Software Maintenance does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under this agreement.
