| Description |
Host Access Client Package, V6 includes Personal Communications for Windows, V5.9 and Host On-Demand V10. Note that some new function is limited to a specific platform.
New for Personal Communications for Windows, V5.9
Productivity
- Page Header and Footer: Add a header and or footer to printed pages on print screen and print screen collection jobs.
- Windows GDI print capability for VT host printing: Use the Windows print driver for VT host printing. This functionality adds to the existing PDT printing capability.
- Concurrent IPv4 and IPv6 connections for EEDLC: Configure and run both an IPv4 and IPv6 connection concurrently for Enterprise Extender configuration (EEDLC).
Security
- Kerberos service ticket auto-signon: For 5250 display and Data Transfer sessions, this feature provides automatic signon capability to iSeries based hosts, using logged-on user credentials.
- Telnet-negotiated security: TLS3 security can be configured to be negotiated between the host and Personal Communication as part of the Telnet negotiation process.
- 3
- Transport layer security
Technology
- Windows x64 platform support: Personal Communications, V5.9 provides non-SNA platform support for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition and Enterprise x64 Edition. This x64 support is in Compatibility mode and does not support SNA.
- Policy enhancements: Additions to the Personal Communications Policy support allow administrators control over the user's ability to modify a sessions view or to minimize, maximize or close a session. By editing the Windows group policy, you can hide the session window tool bar, menu bar, and expanded operator information area (OIA) and restrict the ability to maximize, minimize, or close a session.
- IBM Tivoli® License Manager Readiness: This feature enables installation and usage detection of Personal Communications using the IBM Tivoli License Manager (ITLM).
Usability
- Collect print jobs for 5250 printer sessions: This feature provides the ability to collect multiple print jobs and print them as a single print job or in a group. Functions associated with this feature can be mapped to the keyboard, pop-up keypad, mouse button, or toolbar buttons.
- Best Fit option in Page Setup: Best Fit print scaling is now available for 3270 display and printer sessions as well as VT display sessions.
Serviceability
-
IBM Support Assistant:
The IBM Support Assistant provides an easy, consistent user interface, which enables the resolution
of software questions independently. Personal Communications, as well as many other IBM software
products, provides a plug-in which makes its product information available to the user through the
Support Assistant. Support Assistant provides three components:
- Search component
- Service component
- Support links component
The search component allows you to search the IBM database for technotes and other documents that may help solve a problem or provide additional information about the product.
The service component offers assistance if you choose to submit a problem by providing access to the Electronic Service Request Web site.
The support links component offers a consolidated list of IBM Web links organized by brand and product. Help desk personnel and Personal Communications administrators might want to install Support Assistant in order to better support end users. You can download the Support Assistant from the following Web site
- CSTrace buffer enhancements: The ability to utilize multiple trace buffers for tracing via the CSTrace utility ensures maximum protection against missed trace records during high-load tracing activity.
New for WebSphere Host On-Demand V10
Productivity
- Customizable Pop-up keypad: WebSphere Host On-Demand V10 introduces a new pop-up keypad that can be customized by assigning macros and keystroke functions to the pop-up keypad buttons. Specify the size of the pop-up keypad, the number of pop-up keypads associated with a session, and the number of rows and columns in each pop-up keypad. The keypad configurations can be stored as part of the session configuration or as separate files that can be shared by multiple users and/or sessions.
- Reuse active credentials: Reuse active credentials is a new feature available in WebSphere Host On-Demand V10. This feature enables bypassing the host sign-on screen once having been authenticated one time to that same host. For example, if you are prompted for a user ID and password to log into a display session and then need to create an FTP connection or run an SQL query to the same host or logon again to the display session at a later time, the subsequent connections will bypass the normal sign-on process.
- Remap character attributes for VT: WebSphere Host On-Demand V10 allows you to remap the Bold, Underline, Blink, and Reverse Video character attributes, as well as any combination of those attributes to different colors.
- User locations for macro and file transfer lists: Create and use macros and file transfer lists using any accessible network or file system location. The macro and file transfer list panels which allow users to select a location, now lets you define up to three additional user locations.
Security
- Secure Shell (SSH) enhancements: For users using Sun JRE 1.5 (or higher) or IBM 1.4.2 (or higher), Host On-Demand V10 improves its SSH support by supporting SSH V1 for VT display sessions. In addition, RSA algorithm is added for SSH V2 support for display sessions and sftp sessions. There are no configuration options for these additions as they are negotiated between the client and the server.
- Password vault portlet: WebSphere Host On-Demand provides a separate portlet for manipulating user IDs and passwords in the portal vault for use with Web Express Logon. The portlet is provided as a WAR file (PasswordEditor.war) and is stored in the portal sub-directory of WebSphere Host On-Demand publish directory.
Technology
- VT UTF8 (Unicode) character set support: WebSphere Host On-Demand V10 provides VT-UTF8 (Unicode) support for VT100-like terminals. This support provides the ability for VT sessions to transmit and receive Unicode characters encoded in UTF8 format. This capability will be important as many newer versions of Linux use UTF8 as the default. Using UTF8, WebSphere Host On-Demand can now support VT connections to systems configured for DBCS languages. This support is enabled by selecting VT-UTF8 as the Terminal Type in the session properties.
- Support for Workplace Client Technology (WCT): WebSphere Host On-Demand V10 has added support for WCT for Windows platforms. With this support, you can now generate WebSphere Host On-Demand plug-ins that run in products based on WCT.
- Portal JSR 168 Support: In order to function in additional portal servers, WebSphere Host On-Demand V10 provides an option in the Deployment Wizard to generate a portlet to be used with any JSR 168-compliant portal server.
Usability features
- Print Screen in Color: When using the Print Screen function within an emulation session, WebSphere Host On-Demand V10 now supports printing in color.
- Highlight Field with Cursor: WebSphere Host On-Demand V10 users can select the foreground and background color of the field containing the cursor within the host screen. This feature is available for 3270 and 5250 sessions and is enabled via the Color Remap facility.
- FTP Copy Append: With WebSphere Host On-Demand V10, an additional option is presented that allows users to append a file to an existing file for either a send or receive operation. This option is available for both the FTP and sftp protocols.
- Undo Cut/Copy/Paste: Several Undo functions are now available for Cut/Copy/Paste operations. These functions are available from the Edit menu.
-
Macro Library variable:
Continuing to expand the macro programming language, WebSphere Host On-Demand now offers a new Macro
Library variable called $HMLSystemUtil$ that allows you to make macros even more dynamic by
obtaining the following:
- Applet HTML parameter
- Operating system property (environment variables)
- Java system property
Serviceability
-
IBM Support Assistant:
The IBM Support Assistant provides an easy, consistent user interface which lets you resolve
software questions independently. WebSphere Host On-Demand, as well as many other IBM software
products, provides a plug-in, which makes its product information available through the Support
Assistant. Support Assistant provides three components:
- Search component
- Service component
- Support links component
The search component allows the searching of IBM database for technotes and other documents which may help solve a problem or provide additional information about the product.
The service component assists if you choose to submit a problem by providing access to the Electronic Service Request Web site.
The support links component offers a consolidated list of IBM Web links organized by brand and product. Help desk personnel and WebSphere Host On-Demand administrators might want to install Support Assistant in order to better support your end users. Support Assistant can be downloaded from the following Web site
Additional features
- Ability to prompt you for destination address when logging on to FTP.
- Applet size that can be specified with any pixel or relative percentage value.
- Native font support for Java 2 clients.
- Ability to ignore user typing and mouse clicks during macro playback.
- Mouse wheel support for Java 2 JVM 1.4 and higher clients. This feature allows screen navigation in host applications using the mouse wheel.
- Ability to specify title of a macro prompt.
- Screen size for 3270 sessions that can be specified with any row/column values.
- Ability to redirect license count files created by the WebSphere Host On-Demand server.
- All Latin 1 characters Now available for mapping in the Key Remap editor.
- Support for host initiated screen copy in 3270 display sessions.
- Web Express Logon enhancement for 3270 display sessions, to allow specification of the destination address for the target host when different than the TN3270 address. This feature will allow Web Express Logon to work in Session Manager and WebSphere Host On-Demand redirector environments.
Note: With this release, the IBM schedule to remove Screen Customizer (referred to as Screen Customizer/Alternate Terminal in Host On-Demand) from Host Access Client Package, is complete. The removal of Screen Customer was first announced with Host Access Client Package V3.
The IBM strategic solution for rejuvenation of legacy applications is WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services, which delivers rules-based transformation of host screens with advanced customization support. The WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services product is available within the WebSphere Host Integration Solution software bundle and as a stand-alone product.
Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

| Product positioning |
WebSphere Host Access Client Package for Multiplatforms, V6 offers a migration path from traditional emulation to Web browser-based emulation. It focuses on TN5250, TN3270E, VT52/100/220/420, and CICS® applications support. WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services (HATS), sold separately or as part of the WebSphere Host Integration Solution, also addresses this Web browser-based migration.
This server-side solution runs on either the WebSphere Application Server or the WebSphere Portal Server. HATS makes your 3270 and 5250 applications available through the most popular Web browsers, while converting your host screens to a Web-like look and feel. HATS provides a zero-footprint Web-to-host solution. The only software needed on the client is a Web browser.
Personal Communications
Personal Communications is a key client component of the IBM Host Integration portfolio for LAN, WAN, remote access, and connectivity. Personal Communications provides access to applications and data whether residing on mid-range or enterprise servers. Additionally, it can give you the optimal platform for traditional access to data and applications on the host and includes new tools to help transform your traditional business into an On Demand Business.
Through the use of Enterprise Extender in Personal Communications, you can maintain the integrity of your SNA LU6.2/CPIC/APPC applications over IP. This capability, both on desktops and in the communications servers, provides a Gateway back into the SNA environment. You have a solution that can solve the problem of transporting these SNA applications over an IP network.
WebSphere Host On-Demand
WebSphere Host On-Demand is intended if you want to provide secure, cost-effective host access to other users in intranet- and extranet-based environments. Businesses can extend the reach of their host applications and data to new users, including business partners, suppliers, and sales personnel.
WebSphere Host On-Demand gives you security-enhanced browser access to host applications and data, with Web browser-based emulation. With support for host applications for TN3270E, TN5250, VT52/100/220/420, and CICS, and an FTP/sftp client included in a single package, you need to learn only one interface to reach key host data. Because WebSphere Host On-Demand is Java-based, different operating environments offer the same look and feel, and an identical feature set.
WebSphere Host On-Demand is installed only on the Web server, and the Host On-Demand code is downloaded via a Web site to the users' Web browser. Code maintenance, updates, and configurations reside on the Web server. They are automatically notified of updates. The WebSphere Host On-Demand cached client, or Web Start client, can help reduce download and user idle time, help enhance productivity, and help save significant expense in product deployment and maintenance.
WebSphere Host On-Demand can be installed on nearly any server platform to fit nearly any size organization or branch office. WebSphere Host On-Demand is supported by your choice of platforms, ranging from Windows 2003, AIX®, Solaris, HP, and Linux servers to iSeries and System z mainframes. The benefit extends to the desktop as well. Because the interface is Java-based, it is the same in every workstation environment, whether it is Windows, OS/2®, Linux, AppleMac, or other supported workstation environments.
With a rich Java toolset, including Host Access Beans for Java and the API, you can help rapidly create custom on demand applications to achieve a competitive advantage. Because WebSphere Host On-Demand is part of the WebSphere family, applications developed using the toolset can be incorporated into other WebSphere software projects, helping preserve your WebSphere Host On-Demand investment and helping provide a quick start to the Web and being an On Demand Business.
WebSphere Host On-Demand is recommended for installations that require low-cost, centralized deployment; easy; centralized administration; and support for a broad range of client and server platforms. Personal Communications is recommended for full-function emulation, more extensive APIs, and a wider range of protocols or connectivities, including APPN® and other SNA technologies.

The following text is taken from the Host Access Client Package for Multiplatforms LI documents included with your purchase and is included here for your convenience. Note that the program Unique Terms for IBM Host Access Client Package for iSeries also state that the program may only be used for 5250 emulation.
Program Unique Terms for IBM Host Access Client Package for Multiplatforms, V6
The program consists of IBM WebSphere Host On-Demand V10.0 ("HOD") and IBM Personal Communications for Windows, V5.9 ("PCOMM"). The license to the Program entitles you to use PCOMM or HOD at any time individually, but never concurrently. Your license to use the program is conditioned on you not using PCOMM and HOD concurrently. References below to "program" in these "program-unique terms" shall mean either PCOMM or HOD. Except as modified herein, your use of the program will be governed by the license that accompanies HOD or PCOMM, as applicable.
The program can be accessed and used by a single user, or multiple distinct users, directly or indirectly (for example, accessing the program via an intermediate machine or piece of software). The license to the program entitles only one user to access and use the program.
If you want to allow multiple users to access and use the program, you should acquire an additional license for each distinct user that you would like, directly or indirectly, to access and use the program. The total number of distinct users that access and use the program cannot exceed the total number of program licenses you have acquired.
IBM Personal Communications, V5.9
The program is licensed only for use by a single user at a time. A "user" is defined as a person. You must acquire a license for every person that will access and use the program, either directly or indirectly. Under this license, you may allow only one user to access and use the program either directly or indirectly (such as by accessing the program via an intermediate machine or piece of software).
If you install the program on a server that can physically allow more than one user at a time to access and use programs on that server, or if you provide access to the program via an intermediate piece of software which has the ability to consolidate different user's requests to access the program and route those requests through one or more computers, only users for whom a license has been acquired may access and use the program.
The program may contain cryptography for data which is subject to special export licensing requirements of the U.S. Department of Commerce or other countries. Refer to the program documentation or consult your IBM representative for details on the available level of encryption. You are hereby notified that use by, or transfer to, users in different countries of the same program, may be prohibited or subject to special import laws, regulations, or policies from the user's national government or special export laws, regulations, or policies from your national government. You assume all responsibility for ensuring that the program is used or transferred in accordance with all applicable import and export laws, regulations, and policies.
DB2 Connect components: The program includes portions of DB2® Connect. You are authorized to install and use one copy of the DB2 Connect components only in association with your licensed use of the Program. DB2 Connect components can only be installed on the same workstation as the Program and can be used with the following restrictions: (i) only SNA connections can be used; (ii) the DB2 Connect components can only be used with PCOMM; (iii) a maximum of six concurrent database connections can be established using the DB2 Connect components; and (iv) applications using the DB2 Connect components can only connect to a single database at a time. If you would like to use the DB2 Connect components for TCP/IP connectivity, have more then six connections or need to have connectivity to multiple databases with the integrity of the two-phase commit protocol, you must obtain proper entitlement for the DB2 Connect product.
The program may contains Host Access Beans for Java files (referred to below as "components") that, subject to this agreement, may be used by you in other products within your enterprise. The complete list of components can be found in the "Host Access Beans for Java" Product Information document (HTML) on the program media.
Subject to this agreement and all terms and conditions in this section, IBM grants you the rights to reproduce these Components and include the unmodified components in your products that add substantial value to the components. ("your products"). You may distribute your products solely within your enterprise and solely for use in your business by users authorized to use the Program. Under this agreement, you may copy and use your products on every computer for which a registered user proof of entitlement for the program has been obtained. If you store your products on a server, you may allow only computers for which a registered user proof of entitlement for the program has been obtained to access and use your products.
You may allow computers for which a registered user proof of entitlement for the program has not been obtained to access and use your products only if you acquire a license and Proof of Entitlement separate from this Program package to IBM WebSphere Host On-Demand V9 or later or IBM Personal Communications V5.8 or later, and then only under the terms of such program's license agreement and license information (including any applicable limits on concurrent or registered users).
EXCEPT WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW, THE COMPONENTS ARE PROVIDED AS IS, WITH NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AND IBM HEREBY DISCLAIMS THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. You agree to indemnify and hold IBM harmless from and against any damages arising from your use of the components.
IBM WebSphere Host On-Demand, V10
Authorization for Use on Home/Portable Computer: "1" means that the program may be stored on the primary machine and another machine, provided that the program is not in active use on both machines at the same time. "2" means that you may not copy and use this program on another computer without paying additional license fees.
Specified operating environment
The program's specifications and specified operating environment information may be found in documentation accompanying the program, if available, such as a read-me file, or other information published by IBM, such as an announcement letter.
Program unique terms
The program is licensed only for use by a single user at a time. A "user" is defined as a person. You must acquire a license for every person that will access or use the program, either directly or indirectly. Under this license, you may allow only one User to access and use the program either directly or indirectly (such as by accessing the program via an intermediate machine, piece of software, or another person on the end user's behalf).
If you install the program on a server that can physically allow more than one user at a time to access and use the program on that server, or if you provide access to the program via an intermediate piece of software which has the ability to consolidate different user's requests to access the program and route those requests through one or more computers, only users for whom a license has been acquired may access and use the program.
You assume all responsibility for ensuring that the Program is used and transferred in accordance with all applicable import and export laws, regulations, and policies.
The program contains the ctgclient.jar component of the CICS Transaction Gateway V5.1 (Gateway classes). You may only use the Gateway classes if you have purchased a license for the CICS Transaction Gateway V5.1 (or higher) program. Your use of the Gateway classes is governed by the terms and conditions of the license agreement that governs your use of the CICS Transaction Gateway program.
The program contains Host Access Beans for Java, Host On-Demand J2EE Connector, Host Access Class Library, Programmable HOD, and Session Manager API (each referred to below as "components") that, subject to this agreement, may be used by you in other products within your enterprise. Both the JavaBeans and Host Access Class Library can be found in the "Host On-Demand Toolkit CD-ROM". This CD-ROM can be found in the Program packaging along with the Host On-Demand CD-ROM.
For purposes of this agreement, a "product" shall mean a product that you use internally within your enterprise for your own internal business purposes that includes the components. Subject to the terms and conditions of this agreement including, but not limited to, the authorized use restrictions below, IBM grants you the rights to reproduce these Components and include the unmodified components in products. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have secured all rights necessary from all applicable third parties to include the components in these products.
Using or accessing a product shall be considered using or accessing the program. The reason for this is that the Product contains a component of the program. Therefore, the total number of users concurrently accessing or using a product and the total number of users concurrently accessing or using the program may not exceed the total number of use authorizations that you acquired for the Program. By way of example, if at any one time you have 100 users using or accessing the program and 50 users accessing or using a product, you must have acquired 150 use authorizations for the program.
A license must be acquired for every end user that uses the components, either directly or indirectly (for example, such as by accessing the components via an intermediate machine, piece of software, or another person on the end users' behalf).
You may also allow users who have acquired a separate license for IBM Personal Communications V5.8, or higher ("PCOMM") to use components as part of products that interoperate with PCOMM. When products are used in conjunction with PCOMM, such users do not count toward the number of use authorizations that you are required to purchase for the program as set forth above.
IBM DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY WARRANTY OR SUPPORT FOR YOUR USE OF COMPONENTS WHEN USED AS PART OF PRODUCTS THAT DO NOT USE THE API(S) DOCUMENTED BY IBM. THE DOCUMENTED API(S) ARE THE PROGRAMMABLE HOST ON-DEMAND API(S), SESSION MANAGER API(S), HACL API(S), AND HOST ON-DEMAND J2EE CONNECTOR API(S). YOU, AND NOT IBM, ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OVERALL RESULTS ACHIEVED BY THE PRODUCTS.
HP-UX Java RTE. This program includes HP-UX Java RTE software as separately licensed code, which is licensed to you under the terms of the HP-UX license agreement and not those of this agreement. In no event can the HP-UX Java RTE software be modified or redistributed apart from the program or used for any purpose other than running the program into which the HP-UX Java RTE software is incorporated.
