New System Program Order for Linux on POWER simplifies ordering
IBM United States Software Announcement 206-170July 25, 2006
|
|
| Overview |
Currently you can order software for IBM System p servers, including both Linux and AIX® operating systems and associated licensed programs that run on them, using the AIX System Program Order (SPO) 5692-A5L. To reduce the complexity of ordering Linux software for System p and IBM System i servers, a new SPO for Linux only is available for ordering and delivering all supply features for Linux operating systems and software applications. In addition, the Linux supply features that are shipped on the AIX SPO 5692-A5L are withdrawn effective with this announcement.
You can now order all supply features using the Linux on POWER SPO, 5692-LOP.
For more information about the supply features that are withdrawn from the AIX SPO 5692-A5L and those that are on the Linux on POWER SPO, refer to the Ordering information section.
In addition, electronic delivery is now available for selected licensed program upgrades. Clients
with a current Software Maintenance Agreement (SWMA) can download software upgrades online without
having to wait for an order to be processed or physical media to arrive. Electronic delivery is
available only for upgrades or product refreshes. For details on registration and more, refer to
the

section.

Charge Metric: Effective now, supply for the licensed programs in the following table are delivered via the 5692-LOP SPO. You must use a 5692-LOP SPO to receive the program media and publications. The individual licensed program orders (for example, 5639-SLP) are for billing purposes only. No shipment of either media or publications occurs when you place these orders.
To receive program media and publications, you must use the 5692-LOP SPO. Select the appropriate features from the following table. These supply features ensure that you receive all required program media and publications.
Media can be suppressed for all products delivered on the 5692-LOP SPO; however, it is strongly recommended that at least one media kit be ordered for the operating systems (5639-SLP, 5639-RDH, 5639-RH4). The other supply features associated with the operating systems may not be suppressed and must be selected based on the billing feature selected on the operating system licensed program order (5639-SLP, 5639-RDH, 5639-RH4).

Clients requesting electronic software delivery
Electronic delivery is now available for selected licensed program upgrades. Clients with a current Software Maintenance Agreement (SWMA) for these licensed programs can download software upgrades online without having to wait for an order to be processed or physical media to arrive. Electronic delivery is available for upgrades or product refreshes only.Downloading from the Electronic Software Delivery Web Site requires an active SW Maintenance Agreement for each product to be downloaded and registration with the ESS Web site at
Web site registration requires:
- Valid customer number
- Software order number associated with the customer number
If you do not have and cannot obtain the customer number/software order number pair by any other means, you can process a 5692-LOP upgrade order specifying electronic software delivery.
Some products or functions of 5692-LOP cannot be downloaded and must be delivered on physical media, even when electronic delivery is selected. For products that cannot be downloaded, feature number 3450 is not put on the upgrade orders.
In cases where a combination of downloadable and non-downloadable products are ordered, the eConfig sales configurator automatically creates two 5692-LOP upgrade orders.
The first version is created for the functions that can be delivered electronically. This version has electronic delivery feature 3450 and the 3470/3471 media suppression features for U.S. and 3450 with RGST for Europe. The second version is created for the functions that must be delivered on physical media.
- If you do not select electronic delivery, the delivery defaults to physical media.
- After an upgrade order with 3450 is processed, a notification is sent indicating which products are available for download, along with information for downloading the products.
- Even if you choose to receive physical media, the products that are available for electronic delivery may be downloaded as long as you have an active SW Maintenance contract and have registered with the ESS site. This provides a means for obtaining the latest level of a product.
Electronic software delivery is now available for selected licensed program upgrades in the following countries.
Abu Dhabi Austria Azerbaidjan Belgium Central African Rep Cyprus Denmark Egypt Estonia Finland France French Guyana French Polynesia Germany Guadeloupe Iceland Ireland Israel Latvia Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Martinique Mauritius Netherlands New Caledonia Norway Pakistan Portugal Reunion Serbia and Montenegro South Africa Spain Sweden Switzerland Szekesferhervar Tajikistan Turkmenistan United Kingdom United States Uzbekistan Zaire (since 1998 known as Democratic Republic of Congo, or DR Congo)
In these countries if you have a current Software Maintenance Agreement (SWMA), you can download software upgrades online without having to wait for an order to be processed or for physical media to arrive. Electronic delivery is available only for upgrades or product refreshes. For details on electronic software delivery, registration, and more.
