IBM System Storage™ SAN Volume Controller V4.1 introduces the optional advanced copy services capability of Global Mirror to support distance replication solutions. Building on the original Metro Mirror capabilities of SVC Software, Global Mirror's asynchronous peer-to-peer remote copy function can help provide the critically important ability to maintain a minimally delayed copy of data at a distance sufficient to survive metropolitan or regional disasters.
Interoperability support for heterogeneous data center environments is also expanded in V4.1 to include Sun Solaris 10, an additional version of HP-UX, HP OpenVMS, and 64-bit versions of Microsoft™ Windows™ 2003 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux™ 4.
Management of heterogeneous storage environments is also expanded with new support for:
- Hitachi Data Systems TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform models
- HDS TagmaStore Network Storage Controller NSC55
- HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array Models 4000, 6000, and 8000
- IBM System Storage N series N5200 and N5500
- Network Appliance Fibre Attached Storage (NetApp FAS) Models FAS3020 and FAS3050
SAN Volume Controller V4.1 continues to be designed to improve the customer's total storage management environment with key support enhancements, which include:
- The ability to upgrade individual SAN Volume Controller storage engines non-disruptively within existing I/O groups
- New reporting facilities for tracking virtual disk performance, cache usage, port utilization, and CPU utilization
- New audit log facility that records which user performed each configuration action
- Access control for hosts on a per-port basis
New GUI and CLI facilities have also been added to SAN Volume Controller to help make it even easier to use.
This software runs on the new IBM 2145-8F4 storage engines, with 4-gigabit-per-second Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA) capability to the SAN fabric, as well as on previously released SAN Volume Controller storage engines.

IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Software V4.1 takes a significant step forward.
For new orders, V4.1 is paired (by concurrent order) with the new IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Storage Engine, 2145-8F4, which includes a 4-gigabit-per-second Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA) for attachment to the SAN fabric. The 2145-8F4 storage engine with the 4-Gbps HBA can also be added in pairs to existing SAN Volume Controller clusters up to the maximum cluster size of eight SVC nodes. Nodes added in this manner are capable of negotiating their own connection speed to the SAN, and are not restricted to run at the same speed as previous nodes in the cluster.
Global Mirror capability
SAN Volume Controller Software V4.1 also offers the option of Global Mirror, a new peer-to-peer remote copy capability in asynchronous mode. For today's important disaster recovery requirements, SVC's new Global Mirror provides remote copy capabilities between clusters located at greater-than-metropolitan distances from each other. The operational characteristics, such as relationship establishment and copy initiation, are similar to the current SVC Metro Mirror operations.
Global Mirror and Metro Mirror capacity authorizations are both ordered using the Metro/Global Mirror AAS feature numbers or Passport Advantage part numbers defined in this announcement. Refer to the examples in the Ordering information section.
Simpler, more accurate management capabilities
Through use of new virtual disk (vdisk) metrics available per SVC node, SVC cluster management can be further simplified. These statistics provide the number of read and write operations per vdisk and the number of read blocks or write blocks per vdisk. In addition, the new metrics provide read response times and write response times. SVC Software now also offers counters per node to monitor CPU usage on the SVC engines within the cluster and the utilization of the Fibre Channel ports of the nodes in the cluster.
Cache statistics, which count the I/O operations below the cache, are now available for vdisk disk to cache staging operations and cache to disk destaging operations. Additional cache information identifies the quantities of read-cached data and write-cached data. The quantity of write-cached data present at a given point for a given vdisk compared to the total cache size can provide an indication of the volume's operation as it contends for resources. Similarly, the quantity of read-cached data present compared to the cache size can indicate resource contention and may indicate that the vdisk is a candidate for a move to a different I/O group.
As with the existing statistics reported by the SVC cluster, the log files produced are designed to be used by IBM TPC or by another performance monitoring tool that supports SAN Volume Controller. They cannot be meaningfully used directly by a user without some tool support.

Enhanced GUI
The SAN Volume Controller GUI has been substantially enhanced to include:
- The addition of host name to vdisk mapping on the vdisk properties screen.
- The display of the worldwide port names (WWPN) to the cluster properties screen.
- A new display of the lsfabric command in the GUI, which provides the listing of the fabric topology in which SVC is configured.
- Enhancements to the lsnode command, which now provides the node information about hardware type: 2145-4F2, 2145-8F2, or 2145-8F4. The GUI now makes this information available on the Vital Product Data (VPD) screen.
- A new command, lsdiscoverystatus, that when queried by the GUI during long-running LUN discovery operations, will return the answer that LUN discovery is either still active or it is inactive.
- The display of the MAC address for Ethernet connection from the vital product data (VPD) for the SVC node, so that this information is available for connection into the network.
- New administrative capability with an audit log of commands issued against the SVC configuration, which includes the identification of the user who issued the command and the time that the command was issued. The SVC software shows the identity of users who have issued action commands for both CLI and GUI users. The user identity and action will be preserved for a certain time in a cluster-wide audit log.
- A new message that more clearly articulates the situation when maximum extents per Managed Disk Group (MDG) are reached.
- Support for faster and more robust debugging capabilities, at such time that SVC service may be required.
- A new copy status command that, when invoked, returns an indication of whether or not the DUMP command, which is operating asynchronously to other operations, has yet completed.
- Concurrent code load mechanism that forces the nodes within a cluster to CCL completion, even if all nodes within that cluster are not completed. This will be primarily useful in situations where one node within the cluster has significant failure, so that the rest of the cluster upgrade can be completed.

This program requires at least one pair of IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller 2145-8F4 or IBM TotalStorage® 2145-8F2, or 2145-4F2 Storage Engines with dual uninterruptible power supplies and master console for installation.

Minimum hardware requirements for installation of the Software-only Master Console, software media feature number 5809, are as follows:

- Minimum of 2 GB of system memory (4 GB recommended if support for TPC is required)

As with other remote copy functions, Global Mirror for SAN Volume Controller is subject to multiple considerations such as application workload characteristics, distance between clusters, communications link speed and quality, numbers of volumes in the relationship, and other variables unique to an individual installation. Customers planning to install the Global Mirror function should consult with their IBM Technical Support representative or IBM Business Partner, prior to implementing Global Mirror for SAN Volume Controller in their installation.

Planning considerations for the required IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Storage Engines apply. Refer to the announcements listed in the Reference information section and to the IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller: Planning Guide, GA32-0551 .
Also, attaching IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server™, IBM TotalStorage or System Storage DS6000, or IBM TotalStorage or System Storage DS8000 series storage systems in conjunction with the SVC Solution, requires consideration of individual establishment needs. This configuration can create a Logical Unit that is larger than a single RAID rank, and also allows pooling of unused space into Logical Units within the SAN made visible through SAN Volume Controller Software. These are very positive advantages for storage efficiency and consolidated management; however, this configuration would also require that advanced copy services be performed through the SAN Volume Controller Software. In some cases, this may not be advantageous over performing these services at the ESS, DS6000, or DS8000 disk array level. Relative merits and trade-offs of attaching ESS, DS6000, or DS8000 under the SAN Volume Controller should be discussed with your IBM Consulting Services representative.
Customer responsibilities: Planning for and provision of the power and environmental support of the required IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller, including its Storage Engines, is a customer responsibility.

Service support for the customer-provided server host and its Windows operating system on which the Sofware-only Master Console Kit (#5809 in this announcement) is installed, is a customer responsibility.
Customers with 5639-VC4 site licenses are responsible to combine the total terabytes (TB) managed for each function from individual SAN Volume Controller License Manager (cluster) reports, to ensure they are within site license entitlement for each function.
Installability: Clusters with SAN Volume Controller Storage Software V3 can be converted to IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Software V4 via a concurrent codeload operation.
Customers running SAN Volume Controller V1 and V2 clusters must first acquire and install the SAN Volume Controller V3 code, to enable installation of V4.1.

Packaging
New order packaging: IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Software V4, 5639-VC4, is preloaded on and shipped with the required IBM 2145 SAN Volume Controller Storage Engines.
License Information documents for SAN Volume Controller programs ship with the hardware on which they are preloaded.
Preload feature number 5005 must be specified on all new orders of 5639-VC4 ordered in conjunction with IBM 2145-8F4 hardware with hardware feature number 3001.

For new site SAN Volume Controller Software V4 orders made via AAS, first order the cluster 2145-8F4 hardware for the initial cluster, then order the SAN Volume Controller Software 5639-VC4 site software license.
The following instructions pertain to AAS orders for SAN Volume Controller Software V4 with per-terabyte, cumulative tiered feature structure, 5639-VC4, placed on or after May 23, 2006. Read elsewhere in this section for Passport Advantage ordering information for this software program.
Per terabyte with cumulative tiers
With the cumulative tiered price structure, successive tiers offer lower per-terabyte prices than preceding tiers. The full range of terabytes available in each cumulative tier must be filled before ordering from the next successive tier.

- Both these features may be used in combination in the same order, when cumulative Tier 6 has been reached for the site (more than 250 TB have been ordered for a Virtualization, FlashCopy, or Metro/Global Mirror on the 5639-VC4 site license).
The price indicated in each tier applies only to the capacity authorizations in that tier. For example, if a user is obtaining authorizations to use 29 TB of Virtualization function, the user would pay for 12 TBs of capacity at the first tier rate, and for 17 TBs of capacity at the second tier rate.
A new order for 50 TB of capacity would fill tier 1 (1-12 TB), tier 2 (13-32 TB), and include 18 TBs from tier 3 (33-64 TB). Successive orders of the same IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller function would build on this 50 TB position in that tier.
Further ordering examples are located at the bottom of this section.
A minimum quantity of one TB of the following one-time charge (OTC) SAN Volume Controller Software V4 Virtualization authorization (SVC VZN+1YRSWM/TB 1-12) feature must be ordered with each new software order.
Subsequent capacity-increase orders for the same site should be made by ordering the needed additional TB quantity, commencing the additional order within the applicable cumulative tier established for that function by the original or prior order. Specify the quantities of per-terabyte features from the appropriate cumulative tiers needed to reach the desired total terabytes for the SAN Volume Controller Software site license.
Note: Global Mirror and Metro Mirror can both be ordered using the Metro/Global Mirror feature numbers within the 5639-VC4 product PID and related Software Maintenance PIDs. In each case, the number of TBs to order for Metro/Global Mirror is the total number of source TBs and target TBs participating in the copy operations. For instance, at site A: 10 TBs of virtualization, 2 TBs source for Metro Mirror, 2 TB target for Metro Mirror, and 2 TB source for Global Mirror; at Site B: Base virtualization of 4 TBs, and 2 TBs of target for Global Mirror (source is at Site A) results in a Site A order for 10 TB base virtualization with 6 TBs Metro/Global Mirror and a Site B order for 4 TBs base virtualization and 2 TBs of Metro/Global Mirror.
Note: Capacity increase or new function orders made in AAS subsequent to the original purchase date and before the original license renewal anniversary will generate OTC billings and renewal anniversaries for each TB quantity purchased, each of which will remain in AAS records for the full term of purchase (that is, beyond the renewal anniversary of the original license purchase). In order to provide uninterrupted Software Maintenance coverage for each OTC TB quantity purchased, Software Maintenance must be renewed on or prior to the one- or three-year renewal anniversary of each purchase, depending on whether a one- or three-year contract is being renewed. No adjustment or reimbursement is offered under AAS for unexpired Software Maintenance coverage.
Note: Current AAS customers with multiple clusters and with high priority for a single consolidated renewal anniversary for all SAN Volume Controller site capacity should strongly consider migration to Passport Advantage for all SAN Volume Controller software licensing.
Licensed function and PoE are based on the total capacity (terabytes managed) represented by the sum of authorization features times the quantity selected. Each lower-tier capacity must be filled before ordering from the next higher tier.
Note: Currently entitled V1, V2, or V3 SAN Volume Controller customers who place capacity increase or new function orders for SAN Volume Controller Software 5639-VC4 features should use their current total site entitlement level as a starting point for these orders. In other words, they will be able to order from the tier that represents the total of their current cluster entitlement levels at the same site, based on their total capacity order history for each SAN Volume Controller function in all clusters at that site.
SAN Volume Controller V1, V2, and V3 customers should confer with their IBM representative or IBM Business Partner prior to initiating an order for a 5639-VC4 site license.
For uninterrupted IBM service coverage under Software Maintenance, entitlement must be kept current.
When entitlement migration to Passport Advantage is requested, documentation for current usage levels of each current cluster at the site may be requested by IBM in order to maintain accuracy and consistency of consolidated site license records with customer requirements as well as accurate service information.
Entitled capacity for each Virtualization, FlashCopy, and Metro/Global Mirror (Metro Mirror plus Global Mirror) function should be totaled individually for each function across all existing SAN Volume Controller clusters at the defined site, to determine the appropriate cumulative tier for additional capacity or renewal orders of each function under the SAN Volume Controller Software 5639-VC4 site license. Capacity for each function must be totaled independently from that of other functions. For example, 50 TB of site FlashCopy function capacity may not be added to 100 TB of site Virtualization capacity to attain a total of 150 TB, nor may other similar combinations be made across functions. The capacities across the base Virtualization, FlashCopy, or Metro/Global Mirror functions cannot be combined. Renewals for 5639-VCT and 5639-VC3 licenses may be ordered using the same Sofware Maintenance PIDs and feature numbers previously established for 5639-VCT and 5639-VC3. Renewals by SAN Volume Controller V1 and V2 customers who have not moved to a consolidated site license as of May 23, 2006, should be made in the SAN Volume Controller Software Maintenance V4.1 pricing structure using the total capacity of each function from all current V1 or V2 SAN Volume Controller clusters at the customer site as the basis for tier eligibility. Refer to the Software Maintenance renewal features section.
For any of the capacity managed by SAN Volume Controller under current V1, V2, or V3 clusters, previous entitlements for SAN Volume Controller managed capacity remain intact under those original purchases, until the purchased term expires.
After August 25, 2006, to further expand the storage capacity managed by their SAN Volume Controller Software license, AAS customers will have to purchase new capacity, including Software Maintenance registration, using the 5639-VC4 features and associated Software Maintenance.
Current customers who need additional capacity or function before their V1, V2, or V3 Software Maintenance renewal date should calculate their combined site totals for each existing function across all clusters. They should then purchase the needed V4 functional capacity using product (5639-VC4) and registration (5639-SSA for one-year or 5639-SSC for three-year) features from the appropriate tiers based on their calculated combined TB totals for each function needed. Refer to the Software Maintenance Renewal example below the feature tables in this section.
Individual cluster management restrictions and limits remain unchanged by site capacity licensing. For any cluster, FlashCopy for SVC or Metro/Global Mirror for SVC (Metro Mirror plus Global Mirror) capacity should not exceed the Virtualization management capacity assigned to the cluster.
Order the corresponding Software Maintenance features in the appropriate quantities to match the ordered capacity of product features.
If ordering through AAS and your cumulative site total has reached 250 TB, use the Tier 6 per TB 251+ features in appropriate quantities to reach cumulative totals of less than 500 TB, or in combination with the per 250 TB Tier 6 features to reach cumulative totals in excess of 500 TB, which are not exact multiples of 250. For example, to order quantities of base virtualization in excess of 250 TB, first use feature number 4413 for multiples of 250 TB until the remaining number of TBs is below 250. Then, order the remaining number of TBs required using the appropriate quantity of feature number 4412.

No-charge preload and media features
No-charge preload feature number 5005 is required on new AAS software orders placed with corequisite IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Storage Engines (2145-8F4 or 2145-8F2) hardware orders, containing hardware Initial Engine feature number 3001.
Preload feature number 5005 is not required for FlashCopy for SVC, Metro Global Mirror for SVC, or Virtualization capacity increase orders via AAS that are placed after original orders. Refer also to Initial Site Orders — Software Preload Codes on Hardware Orders . Media feature number 6146, for hardcopy publications, is optional when additional virtualization capacity, FlashCopy for SVC, or Metro/Global Mirror for SVC feature orders are placed after the original base system order.

Example 1: The customer does not buy any additional capacity or function before the earliest service anniversary date of June 1, 2006. The newly-purchased Metro/Global Mirror authorization (5 TB) will have a renewal anniversary of October 6, 2007.
Refer to the note below regarding licensing of Metro Mirror versus Global Mirror. Also, when renewals are purchased prior to the April 2007 renewal anniversary for the original purchase, Metro/Global Mirror for SVC renewal features would be used to renew the original Metro Mirror capacity.
Note: Actual Metro Mirror or Global Mirror proportion at a site is determined by the installation implementation of each function. Entitlement authorizations previously purchased for implementation as Metro Mirror (with synchronous LUN relationships) that have been maintained as current, may be re-implemented as Global Mirror (asynchronous LUN relationships) under the same authorizations. So long as entitlement is maintained at this level, Metro Mirror and Global Mirror implementations may be made in any combination that does not exceed the 10 TB total site authorization level for Metro/Global Mirror for SVC. Global Mirror targets that are located at separate sites should be authorized under that site's SAN Volume Controller license. Additional authorization purchases at other sites may be required to entitle Global Mirror targets added to those sites.

Passport Advantage is able to consolidate and automate the renewal of Software Maintenance for SAN Volume Controller Software, thus freeing you from manually tracking and ordering renewal features. Migration to IBM Passport Advantage: Migration of SAN Volume Controller Software entitlements from AAS to Passport Advantage may be initiated by you or by IBM with your consent. All SAN Volume Controller Software entitlements must be migrated together. Migration times from AAS to Passport Advantage will vary individually by customer. Migrations will be processed with priority given to customers nearest their entitlement renewal anniversary.
Migrations to Passport Advantage from AAS must be initiated and completed before additional orders in Passport Advantage can be fulfilled.
IBM direct customers and IBM Business Partners may elect to fulfill IBM SAN Volume Controller Software V4 (but not hardware) orders via IBM Passport Advantage. To initiate this action, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner, and be prepared to furnish current entitlement (paid invoice or purchase order) records. When activated, the migration must include all SAN Volume Controller licenses and maintenance entitlements. Partial migrations of only a portion of SAN Volume Controller licensed entitlements to Passport Advantage will not be supported.
The following guidelines also apply.
A Passport Advantage or Passport Advantage Express (PAE) account must be established before a migration request from AAS to Passport Advantage or a new software order via Passport Advantage can be honored.
If you already have a Passport Advantage or PAE account, that account will be used whenever possible.
After migrating to Passport Advantage, all future SAN Volume Controller Storage Software orders should be placed via Passport Advantage, not via AAS. No migration process from Passport Advantage to AAS is offered.
New Passport Advantage orders for 5639-VC4
New direct customer orders for SVC Software V4, made via Passport Advantage, require IBM representative assistance in order to place the corequisite hardware order for IBM 2145-8F4. For best results, software orders should be placed in Passport Advantage before AAS hardware orders are placed via eConfig. The Passport Advantage software order number should be noted and communicated to the IBM representative for cross-reference inclusion in the hardware order.
In order to indicate to AAS that software will be fulfilled via Passport Advantage, IBM representatives should instruct the AAS Customer Service to place the Passport Advantage software order number in the hardware order via eConfig and to use the software preload feature number 0017 on the 2145-8F4 hardware order. The hardware order number and confirmation date from AAS should be noted and kept for reference.
To indicate to AAS that a new hardware cluster order is a second or greater number of hardware clusters for that customer site, IBM representatives should instruct the AAS Customer Service Representative to use feature number 0019 on the 2145-8F4 hardware order. Original 2145-4F2, 2145-8F2, or 2145-8F4 hardware orders, with either the 0017 or 0018 feature numbers, may be checked by IBM to validate the existence of an initial hardware cluster order for this customer site before the 0019 feature number may be used.
Capacity increase, FlashCopy for SVC, or Metro/Global Mirror for SVC function orders that are added to an existing site license that is in Passport Advantage do not require a hardware order or IBM representative assistance. They do require documentation of the existing SAN Volume Controller software site license. This can be documented by providing the Passport Advantage customer number and site number for the existing license to the Passport Advantage Customer Service Organization Geography representative. The representative can look up the existing license and document this when confirming an add-on order.

Shipping address accuracy and consistency are important.
IBM will use your shipping address as a designator of site for direct customer orders of this product, 5639-VC4. If this is inconsistent with your site definition, contact your IBM representative before ordering, as well as any time that your originally designated shipping address changes. Failure to do this may result in incomplete or misbilled orders.
IBM Business Partners should ensure that the end customer site address is consistent with the shipping address for all orders processed for the same site.
Software Maintenance AAS PIDs and features are the same for SAN Volume Controller Software V4 as those established for IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller V3.1 with cumulative tiers (5639-VC3) and IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller V2.1 with cumulative tiers (5639-VCT). PID titles (only) are updated to reflect the new product version.
Additionally, the description for each Metro Mirror Software Maintenance feature number under previous versions has been changed to "Metro/Global Mirror for SVC" (abbreviated as "RMC") in V4.1. Associated Software Maintenance feature numbers for each authorization level under each Software Maintenance PID, remain unchanged.
Note: Both Global Mirror and Metro Mirror should be ordered using the Metro/Global Mirror feature numbers within the 5639-VC4 product PID and related Software Maintenance PIDs. In each case, the number of TBs to order for Metro/Global Mirror is the combined total number of source TBs and target TBs participating in the copy operations. For instance, at site A: 10 TBs of virtualization, 2 TBs source for Metro Mirror, 2 TB target for Metro Mirror, and 2 TB source for Global Mirror; at Site B: Base virtualization of 4 TBs, and 2 TBs of target for Global Mirror (source is at Site A) results in a Site A order for 10 TB base virtualization with 6 TBs Metro/Global Mirror for SVC and a Site B order for 4 TBs base virtualization and 2 TBs of Metro/Global Mirror for SVC.
AAS Software Maintenance
This software license includes one year of Software Maintenance.
Extension of coverage for additional years from the date of acquisition may be elected.
Order the applicable program number, feature number, and quantity within appropriate tiers to extend coverage for your software licenses.
If maintenance has expired, specify the appropriate quantity within applicable tiers for after-license feature numbers (under 5639-SSB or 5639-SSE).
Initial Software Maintenance ordering via AAS
Software Maintenance for one year is included in the initial product price for SAN Volume Controller Software V4. Software Maintenance registration is required with each IBM SAN Volume Controller Software V4 license. 5639-SSA is the Program ID number for the One-Year Registration and 5639-SSC is the Program ID number for Three-Year Registration. The three-year Software Maintenance offering is the configurator default.
Software Maintenance for SAN Volume Controller Software V4 includes maintenance coverage for the master console software, subject to the usage limitations published for these programs. Software Maintenance does not include support for the customer-provided Windows operating system on which the Software-only Master Console Kit (#5809) in this announcement is installed.
The following Software Maintenance support feature types apply for each priced function of the SAN Volume Controller Software. Each of these may be represented by one or more feature-times-quantity choices, to represent the total purchase from multiple cumulative tiers.
- A no-charge registration feature covering the first year under 5639-SSA or a two-year-priced feature number for the three-year contracts under 5639-SSC.
- A renewal feature, which is used to renew maintenance while coverage is still current. For uninterrupted Software Maintenance coverage, renewal features must be ordered prior to expiration of the original registration term, at then-current capacity levels. One-year renewals are ordered under 5639-SSA, and three-year renewals are ordered under 5639-SSD. Renewals may be ordered using either one- or three-year renewal features, but must be consistently either one- or three-year throughout the renewal order for all renewal features ordered. The same renewal order cannot intermix one-year and three-year renewal features.
- An after-license feature (under 5639-SSB for one year or 5639-SSE for three years), which is used to reinstate Software Maintenance after the original registered coverage has lapsed.
To receive one-year Software Maintenance registration at no additional charge, order the appropriate 5639-SSA one-year, no-charge Software Maintenance registration features for each licensed function or feature ordered with 5639-VC4. For three-year coverage, choose from the three-year Software Maintenance registration (charged) features under 5639-SSC. Order Software Maintenance registration for the same total licensed capacity for SAN Volume Controller Software (Virtualization), FlashCopy, and Metro/Global Mirror (Metro Mirror plus Global Mirror) currently registered for the site in which the software will operate. Order the appropriate capacity (quantity times TB authorization) of SAN Volume Controller Storage Software Virtualization, FlashCopy, or Metro/Global Mirror Software Maintenance registration features within the appropriate tiers under 5639-SSA (one-year Software Maintenance) or 5639-SSC (three-year Software Maintenance) with each new order of 5639-VC4.
If you increase your capacity level for SAN Volume Controller Software Virtualization, FlashCopy, or Metro/Global Mirror under 5639-VC4, you must also increase your Software Maintenance capacity to match your new licensed capacity, using the maintenance registration features in the per TB cumulative tiers corresponding to the same cumulative tiers and terabyte quantities used to purchase the increased capacity.
For example, if your existing capacity is 25 TB of Virtualization and 10 TB of FlashCopy, and you want to increase to 35 TB of Virtualization and 20 TB of FlashCopy, with one-year maintenance, you would need to order the following quantities and features in both the product authorization and maintenance registration PIDs.
For the SAN Volume Controller Software Virtualization authorization increase:
- Seven additional TBs in the 13-32 cumulative tier of both 5639-VC4 and 5639-SSA for the Virtualization feature to fill this tier for both product authorization and Software Maintenance registration
- Three additional TBs in the 33-64 cumulative tier of both 5639-VC4 and 5639-SSA using the Virtualization features, for a new total of 35 TBs of SAN Volume Controller Software Virtualization with 35 TBs of Software Maintenance Registration
For the FlashCopy authorization increase:
- Two additional TBs in the 1-12 tier of both 5639-VC4 and 5639-SSA for the FlashCopy feature, to fill this tier for both FlashCopy product authorization and Software Maintenance registration
- Eight additional TBs in the 13-32 tier of both 5639-VC4 and 5639-SSA FlashCopy feature, for a new total of 20 TBs for both FlashCopy product authorization and FlashCopy Software Maintenance registration
Software Maintenance renewal features
Renewal prior to lapse of original registration
To provide uninterrupted Software Maintenance coverage, one- or three-year Software Maintenance renewal (RNL) features should be purchased prior to expiration of the original Software Maintenance registration features.
For a single site license renewal, Software Maintenance renewal should be purchased for the site-wide total terabyte capacity levels for each SAN Volume Controller function required for the period of renewal, filling each renewal tier in order, up to the total site capacity.
Renewals for multiple SAN Volume Controller Storage Software purchases made at different times must be made in the same cumulative tier order and anniversary order that was established with initial site license or other previous SAN Volume Controller Storage Software product feature purchases, maintaining the same sequence of progressive tier renewals as did the initial product capacity purchases. For example, when a license authorization from cumulative tier 1-12 expires, that tier must be renewed, before the product purchases from cumulative tiers above tier 1-12 (that were purchased subsequently) can be renewed. Likewise, if previous renewals under the site license have been made cumulatively to arrive at tier 3 (33-64 TB) and none of these renewals have expired , then the next renewal order can commence in tier 3, but not otherwise. Refer to the AAS renewal example.
For sites converting from previous V1 and V2 licenses, the renewal for each cluster at the site should be made using the site license renewal features for all the cluster capacity being renewed at that anniversary, that is, using the cumulative tiers, in order, needed to cover the equivalent capacities from the previously purchased (expiring) entitlements.
Note: Version 1 (5639-VC1) and Version 2 (5639-VC2) require separate considerations to determine appropriate tier equivalency in the V4 tiers. First, convert V1 tier ranges to per terabyte equivalent capacities for each function. Contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner if assistance is required to establish this equivalency. V2 per TB capacities may be directly added by function to progressively fill cumulative renewal tiers.
Any previous unexpired renewal capacity done under the site license should be used to determine appropriate tiers for the current renewal. Subsequent renewals for additional clusters and/or capacity will likewise include all non-expired renewal capacities by function for the same site in the calculation to determine appropriate tiers for that renewal.
The Software Maintenance renewal per-terabyte or per 250 TBs (features times quantity) for each licensed SAN Volume Controller Software Virtualization, FlashCopy, and Metro/Global Mirror function, should be ordered from within the applicable cumulative tiers, based on the site-wide total licensed capacity level for SAN Volume Controller Software Virtualization, FlashCopy, and Metro/Global Mirror (Metro Mirror plus Global Mirror) capacity managed at that site.
Renewal following lapse of original registration
If Software Maintenance has expired, the after-license renewal program ID (5639-SSB for One-Year After License or 5639-SSE for Three-Year After License) must be ordered, filling each tier up to the current site-wide total storage TB levels managed for each SAN Volume Controller Software V4 function.

Licensing: IBM International Program License Agreement and License Information document. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.
This software license includes Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software Subscription and Technical Support.

Limited warranty: Yes
Warranty period: This program includes a warranty for one year from acquisition from IBM or an authorized IBM Business Partner. For one year from acquisition of the program, this warranty provides the customer with access to databases containing program information and FAQs, including any known fixes to defects, which the customer can download or otherwise obtain and install.
Program technical support: Technical support of a program product will be available for a minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. Customers will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.
Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a refund. For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by the customer.

This program is licensed on a per-terabyte (with cumulative tiers) site-wide capacity basis. (Refer to the Ordering information section for information on charges for this program.) Users may only install this program on IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller 2145-8F4, 2145-8F2, and 2145-4F2 Storage Engines, or subsequent IBM replacements of these. Customers are licensed to use this program only to manage storage capacity within a single site, and only for the amount of storage capacity within that site for which they have received proper authorization from IBM. Customers must obtain a separate license for any additional sites within which they want to use SAN Volume Controller Software V4 (5639-VC4) and obtain separate capacity authorizations for each such site. The 5639-VC4 site license subsumes and supersedes all individual 5639-VC1, 5639-VC2, 5639-VCT, and 5639-VC3 licenses previously in effect at that site.
A customer's right to use the IBM FlashCopy for SAN Volume Controller and Metro/Global Mirror for SAN Volume Controller features of this program is also limited to the amount of authorizations obtained from IBM. The authorizations for FlashCopy and for Metro/Global Mirror cannot exceed the total capacity authorization for the amount of managed storage on all clusters within the site. Use of the Metro/Global Mirror feature between clusters located in different sites requires separate authorization for each site. This program is only supported for use with host servers, storage subsystems, and SAN configurations identified by IBM as being supported for attachment to the IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller. This program is provided together with code provided under separate license agreements, including, but not limited to, open source license agreements.
Software Maintenance applies: Yes
Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software Subscription and Technical Support, is now included in the Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support for the products announced in this letter is provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service enhances customer productivity by providing voice and/or electronic access into the IBM support organizations.
IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Maintenance can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option.
While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions; and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Guide at
Software Maintenance does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under this agreement.

All distributed software licenses include Software Maintenance (Software Subscription and Technical Support) for a period of 12 months from the date of acquisition, providing a streamlined way to acquire IBM software and assure technical support coverage for all licenses.
