Overview
IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool with HATS technology (WDHT) is a runtime enabler allowing the WebFacing Tool and Host Access Transformation Services (HATS) technologies to work together in an integrated fashion. Both WebFacing Tool and HATS Toolkit customers can work seamlessly with their existing projects, while taking advantage of the new capabilities when combined with i5/OS V5R4.
New capability
Web-enabled applications created with the WebFacing Tool in WebSphere® Development Studio Client for iSeries (WDSC) cannot access system screens or non-WebFaced 5250 applications without a substantial amount of integration effort. WDHT addresses these interoperability issues. If a WebFaced application encounters system screens or non-WebFaced 5250 applications, then the "on-the-fly" transformation capabilities, included with HATS today, is leveraged to deliver the system screens or non-WebFaced 5250 application in a browser interface. This HATS capability is provided through the WebFacing Tool extensions. The system screens or non-WebFaced 5250 applications inherit the same browser style as the WebFaced application. WebFaced applications that leverage the capabilities of WDHT deliver "out-of-the-box" integration with system screens and non-WebFaced 5250 applications.
The IBM WebFacing Tool and the HATS Toolkit are included with WDSC and WebSphere Development Studio Client Advanced Edition for iSeries (WDSC AE). WebFacing Tool customers who do not take advantage of the new capabilities can continue to create and deploy applications from the WebFacing Tool. However, customers who take advantage of the new WebFacing Tool extensions will find that deployment for the new functions is limited to two user connections for testing purpose only. To enable the new functions for deployment to production, customers must purchase WDHT. Web-enabled applications created using the HATS Toolkit are limited to two user connections for testing purpose only. WDHT is required for deployment to production of HATS applications.
The introduction of WDHT makes HATS more affordable by eliminating the requirement for Online
Transaction Processing (OLTP) capacity for HATS applications working through the WebFacing server.
Without the OLTP requirement for deploying a HATS application to i5/OS starting with V5R4, the
overall cost of HATS solutions is significantly reduced. HATS applications can be deployed to i5/OS
Standard Edition.

Description
The introduction of IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool with HATS technology (WDHT) brings together IBM's premier refacing technologies. WDHT gives you the flexibility to use both the WebFacing Tool and Host Access Transformation Services (HATS) technologies to achieve your refacing goals. You will still find the familiar WebFacing Tool and HATS Toolkit included in WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries (WDSC) and WebSphere Development Studio Client Advanced Edition for iSeries (WDSC AE). WDHT acts as a runtime "enablement key" for applications created with these tools.
WebFacing Tool technology
IBM WebFacing Tool quickly, easily, and cost effectively generates Web interfaces to 5250 applications.
- Generates a new, fully functional Web user interface based on Data Description Specification (DDS) source code
- Comprehensive DDS keyword support
- Web-enabled response times comparable to green-screen applications
HATS technology
HATS includes a default transformation engine that quickly and easily generates a dynamic Web interface from a 5250 datastream. The resulting Web interface can also be customized with the HATS Toolkit.
- Browser interface to host applications
- Navigation of host applications improves and generates portal interfaces
- No access to source code is required
Using WebFacing Tool and HATS technologies together
By leveraging the WebFacing Tool extension in WDSC V6.0.1, you can get "on-the-fly" conversion of 5250 applications or system screens in WebFaced applications. Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) is not required for HATS applications starting with i5/OS V5R4.
The WebFacing Tool in WDSC and WDSC AE continues to offer the same capability as in previous releases. To leverage the new WebFacing Tool extensions, you need to purchase WDHT for deployment to production. The HATS Toolkit included with WDSC and WDSC AE continues to function as previous releases. HATS applications require WDHT to deploy to production.
Refer to Software Announcement 205-022 , dated February 8, 2005, for more detailed HATS information.
For a more detailed comparison of the IBM WebFacing Tool and HATS, visit
Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act
IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool for WDS iSeries is capable as of March 3, 2006, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it. A U.S. Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) can be requested via IBM's Web site

Product positioning
Modernization tools
There are a number of modernization tools available in the System i5 marketplace to Web-enable 5250 applications. Most of these tools provide source-based and 5250 datastream conversion capabilities. The WebFacing Tool for source-based conversion and HATS for 5250 datastream conversion have been shipped in the last two releases of WDSC and WDSC AE. Both tools have very good Web-enabling capabilities but they did not work together. Customers were forced to choose between two good modernization solutions and this delayed their modernization efforts.
With the introduction of the WDHT, customers can leverage the capabilities of the WebFacing Tool and
HATS Toolkit in one integrated modernized solution. The elimination of OLTP requirements for HATS
and the new pricing options for WDHT make this new offering much more cost effective. Customers
have the source-based conversion capabilities of WebFacing and the "on-the-fly" datastream
conversion capabilities of HATS in one attractively priced IBM offering.

Planning statement
In this release, the WDHT is required for deployment of Web-enabled applications created using either the HATS Toolkit or the WebFacing Tool extensions for interoperability with non-WebFaced 5250 applications.
Any Web applications created using the basic functions of the WebFacing Tool do not require WDHT for deployment.
In future releases of the WebFacing Tool, all deployments will require WDHT. Web-enabled
applications created or updated using any subsequent release of either HATS or the WebFacing Tool in
WDSC or WDSC AE will require the corresponding release of WDHT for deployment.

This product is only available via Passport Advantage. It is not available as shrinkwrap.
Program unique terms
IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool for WebSphere Development Studio, defined as the Program, may only be used to connect to i5/OS 5250 applications. The Program is available based on three charging methods: Authorized User, Processor, and Processor per Tier. Consult your Proof of Entitlement to determine which charging method applies to your license.
The Authorized User and Processor versions of the Program consist of the following Components:
- IBM WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services (HATS) Toolkit
- IBM WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services (HATS) Runtime
- IBM WebFacing Tool Runtime
- IBM WebSphere Application Server Express for Multiplatforms (Application Server Express)
The Processor per Tier version of the Program consists of the following Components:
- IBM WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services (HATS) Toolkit
- IBM WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services (HATS) Runtime
- IBM WebFacing Tool Runtime
Entitlement to Program upgrades does not entitle you to upgrades to the individual components unless such components are upgraded as part of a Program upgrade. For example, if the IBM WebSphere Application Server Express for Multiplatforms program product is upgraded, you will not be entitled to such upgrade unless a Program upgrade includes the upgraded version of IBM WebSphere Application Server Express for Multiplatforms.
The Program is available based on three charging methods: Authorized User, Processor, and Processor per Tier. If the Authorized User charging method is selected, the number of Program licenses purchased must equal the number of authorized users accessing the Program from the Internet and/or intranet.
Authorized User License Option
An Authorized User is one and only one individual, machine, program, or device with a specific identity (ID) within or outside your enterprise.
A Proof of Entitlement is required for each User accessing the Program, or any Program component, either directly or indirectly through any means on behalf of the User. An example of "indirect" access would be through a multiplexing program, device, or application server. Connections (from either users or other applications) made to the Program through other products that act as connection concentrators must be counted as authorized users and are subject to use-base charges based on the number of authorized users of those concentrators.
Processor License Option
For each Proof of Entitlement you obtain under the Processor License Option, you are authorized to deploy and run Program applications on a machine with a single processor. Alternatively, you may deploy and run Program applications on a machine with multiple processors if you acquire a Processor License Option Proof of Entitlement for each processor on such machine.
Processor per Tier License Option
For each Proof of Entitlement you obtain under the Processor per Tier License Option, you are authorized to deploy and run Program applications on System i5 with a single processor of the tier specified by your Proof of Entitlement. Alternatively, you may deploy and run Program applications on System i5 of the tier specified by your Proof of Entitlement with multiple processors if you acquire a Processor per Tier License Option Proof of Entitlement for each processor on such machine.
Component Restrictions
IBM WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services Toolkit
The license to the Program entitles you to use the HATS Toolkit for an unlimited number of developers on an unlimited number of workstations for development purposes. Your entitlement to the Program applications (Runtime deployments), which are generated by the HATS Toolkit, must be in accordance with one of the charging methods above when deployed to production.
IBM WebSphere Application Server Express for Multiplatforms
Authorized User License Option
The Program is accompanied by WebSphere Application Server Express. Except as modified by this Agreement, your use of the WebSphere Application Server Express components will be governed by the license terms that accompany the WebSphere Application Server Express components. The license to the Program entitles you to install and use one WebSphere Application Server Express on a machine with a single processor provided that you acquire fifty (50) Authorized User licenses. You may use one additional WebSphere Application Server Express on one additional processor for each additional one hundred (100) Authorized User licenses that you acquire.
Total Copies of WebSphere
Authorized Users Application Server -- Express
1 -- 49 0
50 -- 149 1
150 -- 249 2
250 -- 349 3
etc etc
For each WebSphere Application Server Express to which you are entitled, you are authorized to install and use each component of WebSphere Application Server Express on a machine with a single processor. Alternatively, you may install and use each copy of WebSphere Application Server Express on a machine with multiple processors if you either:
- Allocate a copy of WebSphere Application Server Express to which you are entitled per this Agreement to each additional processor on such machine; or,
- Acquire a Single Processor Proof of Entitlement of WebSphere Application Server Express for each additional processor on such machine.
Processor License Option
You are authorized to install and use one (1) WebSphere Application Server Express on the same server machine per each deployment of Program processor to which you are entitled under this Agreement.
In any event, the license to the Program limits your use of WebSphere Application Server Express to machines with up to two (2) processors.
You are entitled to use the WebServer Plugins to improve security by having an HTTP server run on a separate machine from WebSphere Application Server Express. You are authorized to only have a 1:1 web server:application server link with no load balancing support.
In addition, the license to the Program entitles you to use the WebSphere Application Server Express components only to run Program applications, to run objects created by the Program applications, and to enable connections with the Program applications to other applications and sources of data. The license to the Program does not for instance, entitle you to use the WebSphere Application Server Express components to run applications that do not require the Program applications to operate. If you wish to use the WebSphere Application Server Express components without these restrictions, you must purchase separate authorizations to use the WebSphere Application Server Express components.
