| Description |
Planned availability date
February 14, 2006: Electronic software delivery by Rational Product Updater
WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries (WDSC) refresh pack V6.0.1
WDSC refresh pack V6.0.1 inherits and extends the robust, easy-to-use development environment of Rational Web Developer refresh pack V6.0.1.
The WDSC Lite technology preview shipped in this release allows users who are developing native i5/OS applications to install a much lighter-weight Integrated Development Environment consisting of the base Eclipse IDE with the Remote System Explorer and Debug plug-ins. This edit/compile/debug environment for i5/OS development requires 256 MB of RAM to run effectively, whereas 1 GB is recommended for the full WebSphere Development Studio Client. The installation of the WDSC Lite technology preview is an optional feature.
IBM WebFacing Tool quickly, easily, and cost effectively Web-enables 5250 applications. This release delivers "out-of-the-box" integration of WebFaced and non-WebFaced 5250 applications in a browser.
Host Access Transformation Services (HATS) Toolkit V6.0.4 includes a default transformation engine that quickly and easily generates a dynamic Web interface from a 5250 datastream. The resulting Web interface can also be customized with HATS Toolkit. The Web interface can be deployed to production with the purchase of IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool with HATS technology. In this release, the Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) requirements for HATS applications working through the WebFacing server are eliminated starting with i5/OS V5R4.
For a more detailed comparison of the IBM WebFacing Tool and Host Access Transformation Services, visit
Remote System Explorer provides enhancements to the Eclipse IDE for developing i5/OS native applications and access to i5/OS functions. In this release, RSE includes the local syntax checker, program verifier, and help support for the RPG, COBOL, and CL language enhancements in V5R4.
Web Service development tools for creating SOA applications have been simplified. A new extension to the Web Service wizard generates a Web service from either a batch ILE RPG or COBOL program in one step.
WebSphere Development Studio Client Advanced Edition for iSeries (WDSC AE) refresh pack V6.0.1
WDSC AE refresh pack V6.0.1 inherits and extends the capabilities of Rational Application Developer refresh pack V6.0.1.
The Portal Toolkit in WDSC AE is required to generate portlets in HATS and the WebFacing Tool.
IBM WebSphere Development Studio Client Advanced Edition refresh pack V6.0.1 delivers significant advanced capabilities, including:
- Cascading Style Sheets-Positioning (CSS-P) support in WebFacing Tool allows the fields on the Web-enabled interface to be repositioned, unconstrained by the boundaries of the original 5250 area. This provides almost unlimited customizability of the Web-enabled interface.
- New adapters enable the collection and consolidation of messages from applications created with the WebFacing Tool and Web Tools with the i5/OS message and Job Log information for easier problem determination of composite applications.
Accessibility by people with disabilities
Some accessibility features are not available in the following optionally installed components:
- VisualAge® RPG

| Product positioning |
WDSC refresh pack V6.0.1
Although WebSphere Development Studio (WDS) is pervasive on the last three release of the operating system, the usage of WDSC has been constrained by the workstation requirements. The technology preview in this release allows i5/OS developers to install a much lighter edit/compile/debug environment, WDSC Lite, for developing native i5/OS application. The memory requirements for WDSC Lite are less than 25% of the recommended requirements for WDSC.
New capabilities are delivered in this release for IBM's strategic Web-enabling technologies for the System i5 marketplace. The new extensions to the WebFacing Tool delivered in refresh pack V6.0.1 leverage the on-the-fly capabilities of HATS to Web-enable 5250 applications and integrate them with Web-enabled applications created with the WebFacing Tool. Both applications are delivered in a consistent browser GUI interface and don't require any OLTP capacity starting with i5/OS V5R4. This new capability is available in both WebSphere Development Studio Client and WebSphere Development Studio Client Advanced Edition. The deployment of this new solution requires the purchase of IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool with HATS technology V6.0.1.
The HATS Toolkit V6.0.4, delivered in this release, leverages the WebFacing infrastructure to eliminate the requirement for OLTP capacity starting with i5/OS V5R4. Applications Web-enabled using HATS V6.0.4 can be deployed to the Standard Edition of i5/OS. You must purchase a new Passport Advantage® offering, IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool with HATS technology V6.0.1, to deploy the Web interface to production.
WDSC AE refresh pack V6.0.1
There is a new reason to acquire the WebSphere Development Studio Client Advanced Edition. The refresh pack V6.0.1 allows you to monitor the execution of mixed workload applications by consolidating messages from the i5/OS job log, WebFacing, and Web Tools.
Also, the CSS-P support in WebFacing Tool allows the fields on the Web-enabled interface to be
repositioned, unconstrained by the boundaries of the original 5250 area. This provides almost
unlimited customizability of the Web-enabled interface.

|
| Planning statement |
In this release, the IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool with HATS technology (WDHT) is required for deployment of Web-enabled applications created using either the HATS Toolkit or the WebFacing Tool extensions for interoperability with non-WebFaced 5250 applications.
Any Web applications created using the basic functions of the WebFacing Tool do not require WDHT for deployment.
In future releases of the WebFacing Tool, all deployments will require WDHT. Web-enabled
applications created or updated using any subsequent release of either HATS or the WebFacing Tool in
WDSC or WDSC AE will require the corresponding release of WDHT for deployment.

IBM WebFacing Tool
- Allow DDS-based applications that are Web-enabled by the WebFacing Tool to interoperate with i5/OS system screens and 5250 applications through dynamic transformation of the 5250 datastream. The deployment of applications with these new functions is limited to two user connections for testing purpose only. To deploy applications with the new functions to production, you must purchase IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool with HATS technology, V6.0.1, 5724-N52.
-
Provide enhanced additional bidirectional languages support for the following functions:
- Cursor control when CHECK(RL) is specified in the DDS
- Right to Left tabbing control when CHECK(RLTB) is specified
- Support round-tripping of Web settings editing by insertion of bidirectional markers in the download of the DDS source
- Generate CBE logging data that can be used by the Log and Trace Analyzer in WDSC AE.
- Cascading Style Sheets-Positioning (CSS-P) support in WebFacing Tool allows the fields on the Web-enabled interface to be repositioned, unconstrained by the boundaries of the original 5250 area. This provides almost unlimited customizability of the Web-enabled interface in WDSC AE.
