WebSphere DataStage offerings
WebSphere DataStage for z/OS and WebSphere DataStage Enterprise MVS Edition allow you to integrate legacy mainframe data with other enterprise data. You may integrate data between applications and databases on the mainframe, or between mainframe and different operating systems, such as UNIX®, Linux, and Microsoft Windows.
WebSphere DataStage for z/OS
WebSphere DataStage for z/OS takes performance to a new level. Parallel processing capabilities, including partitioning, dynamic re-partitioning, and exploitation of scalable hardware environments allow you to handle the massive volume, velocity, and variety of data flowing into your organization. Together with end-to-end meta data management, advanced maintenance and development, and the ability to operate in real-time, WebSphere DataStage for z/OS delivers the most powerful data integration and transformation solution available.
WebSphere DataStage for z/OS brings the parallel framework to UNIX System Services (USS) on the mainframe under z/OS. Development is done using a Windows-based DataStage Client connected to a UNIX DataStage Server. Job compilation and execution are accomplished using either a connected, tightly-coupled model or a loosely coupled mechanism.
- The tightly coupled mode allows jobs to be designed, compiled, and run under the control of the DataStage Clients. Log in and monitoring information is available in DataStage. Remote shell (rsh) and FTP are used automatically to connect to the mainframe.
- The loosely coupled mode does not require remote shell server to be enabled on the mainframe. The job scripts can either be automatically sent to the mainframe using FTP, or can be sent manually. Jobs containing transformers, lookups, or buildops are then compiled on the mainframe. All jobs may be executed using command-line interfaces or a mainframe scheduler. Job logging and monitoring information is not returned to the DataStage Server if in this mode.
WebSphere DataStage for z/OS ensures connectivity to:
- z/OS UNIX files (read and write)
- QSAM data sets (read only)
- VSAM (ESDS, KSDS, RRDS) data sets (read only)
- DB2 (read, write, load, lookup, upsert)
- Teradata
WebSphere DataStage MVS Edition
WebSphere DataStage MVS Edition deploys and executes natively on the mainframe. This program consolidates, collects, and centralizes information from various systems and mainframes using native execution from a single design environment. It generates COBOL applications and the corresponding custom JCL scripts for processing mainframe flat files, VSAM, DB2, IMS, and Teradata. Your users can also integrate custom in-house applications into the design.
The features of WebSphere DataStage MVS Edition include:
- Native mainframe processing
- Support for complex data
- Multiple source and target support, including all mainframe flat files
- Advanced maintenance and development
- Complete, graphical development environment
- End-to-end metadata
WebSphere DataStage MVS Edition complements existing infrastructures and skill sets by processing directly on the mainframe, where sophisticated security, access, and management already exist. There is no requirement to hire and train new personnel. This solution allows you to continue relying on the mainframe as the workhorse.
Development work is done using a Windows-based DataStage Client connected to a Windows or UNIX DataStage Server. Job compilation and execution are done on the mainframe after files are transferred using FTP.
WebSphere DataStage MVS Edition delivers mainframe connectivity to DB2, IMS, VSAM, QSAM, ISAM and flat files, and also for Teradata on Windows or MP-RAS systems. A sophisticated editor delivers hierarchical and multi-format files, which are common to mainframe environments. Teradata connectivity supports Teradata's FastLoad, Multi Load, TPump, FastExport, and a relational stage for custom SQL.
A graphical editor enables specification of details about the IMS database view, segments, and fields.
WebSphere DataStage Changed Data Capture for IMS
Data warehousing is an iterative process, driven by continuous discovery and evolving business information needs. Following the initial extract and load, you need periodic updates to the data warehouse. As warehouse usage expands throughout the organization, you can typically demand more data from more sources, on a more frequent basis.
In many cases, it is simply not an option to update the warehouse with large volumes of data from mission-critical OLTP source systems with limited batch windows. In addition, moving large data volumes across over-taxed corporate networks can be problematic.
No single method represents a universal solution, and many warehousing environments employ hybrid approaches that may encompass several variations of these techniques.
IBM offers a range of options to facilitate warehouse maintenance. Once the warehouse is populated, our CDC programs can be used in conjunction with WebSphere DataStage to maintain your data warehouses and marts. By capturing only the changes made to the operational data, CDC reduces the data volumes required for source to target file transfer. This in turn reduces the warehouse load and update cycle.
CDC captures changes to the operational data and produces Delta Data Store files that can be used as input to WebSphere DataStage to update the data warehouse. From a workflow perspective, the warehouse developer defines a Delta Data Store file as an input table within one of the DataStage XETM products on a Windows 95/NT platform.
The WebSphere DataStage program that is generated and transferred to the target platform extracts from the Delta Data Store, performs transformations, and applies the changes to the target data warehouse.
CDC only captures changes made by committed transactions that are in-flight at runtime, and commit later, they will be captured by the next CDC run.
WebSphere QualityStage for z/OS
WebSphere QualityStage for z/OS automates the process of investigating, standardizing, matching and surviving data, reducing the time and cost required for implementing customer resource manager (CRM), business intelligence, and other initiatives requiring enterprise data integration. In addition to this core product, this announcement also covers associated offerings, including WebSphere QualityStage for DPID for z/OS, WebSphere QualityStage for DPID Reference Data for z/OS.
WebSphere DataStage TX Extended Edition for z/OS
WebSphere DataStage TX Extended Edition for to z/OS lets you, a z/OS customer, take advantage of the industry's most robust transformation engine.
WebSphere DataStage TX provides the ability to take any kind of data in its native form, process it natively, without coding, and output the result natively in any format. It can do all this without the need to "know the languages" of the systems being integrated.
Using the WebSphere DataStage TX Design Studio (in a Windows environment) a business analyst or designer can build integration objects across the applications, databases and systems being integrated. WebSphere DataStage TX is an integration solution, so it never generates code that then needs to be managed. All of the extensive integration functionality is managed from an easy-to-use and robust drag-and-drop design interface.
- Delivers complex, hierarchical transformation capability
- Allows you to use one common methodology for all ESB transformation needs
WebSphere DataStage TX performs transformation and routing of data from source systems to target systems in batch and real-time environments. The sources may include files, relational databases, (message-oriented middleware (MOMs), packaged applications, or other external sources.
After retrieving the data from its sources, WebSphere DataStage TX transfers and routes it to any number of targets where it is needed. This offers the appropriate content and format for each target system.
WebSphere DataStage TX Extended Edition for z/OS delivers the following:
- Connectivity to a wide range of mainframe, legacy, and enterprise applications, databases, messaging systems, and external information sources
- A comprehensive library of more than 120 pre-built functions to reduce development time and simplify specification of rules for validation, transformation, and routing
- Multiple execution options to support right-time, right-style transformation-whether it is batch, real-time, or embedded
WebSphere Trading Partner®

Value Unit-based pricing
Value Unit pricing for eligible zSeries IPLA programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each zSeries IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description.
Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for customers. For each zSeries IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the "required license capacity." Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three-digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three digit code.
Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offers additional price benefits for customers. The quantity of each zSeries IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as "entitled license capacity." If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for a zSeries IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired.
For each zSeries IPLA program with Value Unit Pricing, you should:
- Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs
- Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise
- Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit, and
- Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost.
To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to VUs or vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. For additional information or to obtain a copy of the Value Unit Converter Tool, visit the Value Unit Converter Tool Web site
Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product.
To determine the required license capacity for the zSeries IPLA program you selected, refer to the Terms and conditions section.
IPLA and subscription and support considerations
IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is the customer's responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.
Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example.
If your required license capacity is 1,500 MSUs for your selected zSeries IPLA product, the applicable Value Units would be:
Translation from MSUs to Value Units
MSUs * Value Units/MSU = Value Units
Base 3 * 1.00 = 3.00
Tier A 42 * .45 = 18.90
Tier B 130 * .36 = 46.80
Tier C 140 * .27 = 37.80
Tier D 1,185 * .20 = 237.00
Total 1,500 343.50
When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer.
Basic license: Over time, customers will be contacted by IBM to migrate their use entitl from the current pricing model (LPAR or Server) to the replacement model (MSUs/VUs). The list which follows identifies which products will be under the new pricing model, along with the relevant PID numbers.
Customers must be current on maintenance to be eligible for migrations. Customers not current will have to pay a get-current or a maintenance reinstatement fee. In some instances, separately charged features will be imbedded in the new solution. In these cases, only the license capacity the base product is used for the current entitlement level for migration. Products in this category are identified with a "*" after the current off name in the list below.
The migration is for the same capacity as currently licensed when convert the pricing metric announced for the replacement offering (for example, MSUs/Value Units). Customers will be migrated for the number MSUs in the LPAR(s) or on the Server(s) on which the software is currently licensed only.

| IBM Electronic Services |
IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support on the IBM eServer®. You should benefit from greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate, but complementary, elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent.
IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The IBM Electronic Service Agent is a no-additional-charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
