Description

Product, Process, Resource (PPR)

Facilitates reconciliation of exchanged engineering data, enhancing design chain continuity across organizations

  • New product introduced in V5.16 — SMARTEAM — CATIA Supply Chain Engineering Exchange (SEE). Flexible SMARTEAM exchange packages of CATIA relational data facilitate engineering collaboration across organizations using CATIA, SMARTEAM, and/or ENOVIA, enhancing decision-making and productivity by providing design chain continuity between OEMs and suppliers and fortifying engineering exchange between suppliers.
    • SEE delivers seamless continuity of data and process between business partners that exchange CATIA data across heterogeneous environments, streamlining collaboration and enhancing the value derived from shared work. SEE supports subsets of data adapted to diverse business needs.
    • Highlights include advanced search and query on the imported data, 3D comparison, tailorable business rules, such as for file naming, and links consistency across product components.
    • SEE fortifies IBM/DS PLM solution value by supporting different business scenarios involving CATIA, SMARTEAM and/or ENOVIA, including OEMs using ENOVIA VPM V4 or V5 and suppliers using SMARTEAM, and other exchange scenarios around SMARTEAM.
  • New impact analysis within CATIA leverages tight SMARTEAM link relationships to expose the full impact of a design change. It adds valuable intelligence to decision-making, improving product quality and reducing modification costs. This decision support facilitator enhances day-to-day design activities by helping determine the scope of a modification with regard to related assemblies, drawings, and analysis and manufacturing processes. The capability encourages responsible, cost-minded engineering and expands project risk-sharing across the dispersed design chain.
  • Seamless integration with Digital Mock-up (DMU V5) process optimizes decision-making by enabling users to leverage IBM/DS PLM's uniquely complete and integrated design process environment — covering design, design review, and data management. DMU V5, a collaborative decision support platform, offers virtual product visualization, navigation, analysis and simulation to all involved in the product development process — from designers and reviewers to manufacturing engineers and suppliers. By seamlessly supporting DMU V5, enabling large-scale digital mock-ups based on CATIA and multi-CAD data, SMARTEAM optimizes decision support throughout product development.

Process-centric

Optimizes process automation, facilitating efficiency across enterprise teams

  • Workflows expanded with dynamic organizational data (user groups and roles) optimize resource assignment by delivering the latest, automatically updated organizational profiles, facilitating smoother work processes and enhancing administrator productivity. SMARTEAM's workflow template exposes the latest organizational structure as defined to the enterprise system, proliferating the accurate use of existing profiles. Any group or role updates are applied automatically to the active workflow process.
  • Compatibility with CATIA's 64-bit platform supports extended relational design deployment on large assembly work, enhancing overall user productivity in all sectors. SMARTEAM V5 32-bit and CATIA V5 64-bit on Microsoft Windows 64-bit creates a fortified IBM/DS PLM platform that optimizes customer IT assets while enhancing the work effort, fostering generative design practices. Users can manage whole, complex data-sets using the full power of V5 relational design methodology (for example, without needing to segment assemblies, synchronize links or reconcile a part upon assembly).

In support of 64-bit scenarios, SMARTEAM preserves all links related to whole parts and assemblies, optimizing productivity by enabling work methods driven by customer processes rather than machine limitations.

  • Innovative License Use Management (LUM) flexibility allows configuring of idle time, maximizing license use and investment value. This customer-requested SMARTEAM innovation supports a concurrent usage licensing model, which optimizes shareable licenses across the user base by freeing them up when idle. Administrators can configure idle time periods to suit the organization's needs.

    • SolidWorks integration users can leverage specific configuration properties via a conceptual model that maps to Toolbox parts and Toolbox Custom Properties.
    • Newly enhanced open dialog accelerates and streamlines access to SMARTEAM from within AutoCAD and Solid Edge, enhancing user productivity.
  • Project-based security, extended to design copying, enables highly secure, role-based reuse of existing projects across multi-CAD data, accelerating design. SMARTEAM's powerful project-based authorizations let qualified users easily replicate and then modify a design and its parts, with all links intact, leveraging existing IP to save time, accelerate new product introduction and avoid errors. Authorizations, easily defined at the project level, determine which objects can be viewed and accessed, and by whom.

Collaborative workspaces

Delivers fortified bi-directional links, viewing and Web deployment, empowering collaboration

  • Mature bi-directional linking lets users capture, view, and share valuable information related to substitution, CAD source, and dependencies across all product data, enhancing collaborative engineering and change management. Powerful bi-directional (normal and reverse) links allow robust data management by enabling mission-critical data capture and sharing, improving productivity at the design and product build levels. This capability bridges product knowledge gaps by supporting user scenarios for defining alternates and general dependencies through easy to use CAD representation/export and "depends on" link control, and governing exposure through applied lifecycle rules.
  • Fortified Web solutions, with optimized deployment scenarios and enhanced viewing, facilitate cost-effective enterprise collaboration across multiple platforms (AIX®, HP-UX, and Windows), remotely and locally, extending enterprise collaboration around IP to dispersed employees, suppliers and customers. SMARTEAM Web solutions deliver a unified PLM environment via a thin-client architecture that seamlessly integrates product knowledge for anywhere, anytime collaboration.

V5.16 delivers guidelines for rapid and efficient Web solution deployment, including cost-lowering load balancing scenarios.

Guidelines cover architecture recommendations, scaling scenarios (single and multiple server, including load balancing), and implementation methodology, and hardware and software requirements.

SMARTEAM — Editor (EDR)

  • Creation and visualization of directional links — SMARTEAM offers the flexibility to define dependency links between any two objects, in addition to the already available, bi-directional link types (general links). Defined in the Data Model Designer (DMD), and visualized with new icons for improved usability, this conditional-type setting has implications on lifecycle rule behavior. In this manner, for example, a check out operation of the source object will trigger the same operation on its related objects. For example, a check out of a functional specification document will automatically check out its corresponding white paper — but not vice versa. This also enables the management of alternate parts substitutes. If the master part changes, then the substitute parts change accordingly.

Directional links are displayed both in the tree view and the grid view and includes links in both directions. Directional links definition benefit users in the following scenarios:

    • Substitutes — links that define which part may replace the other part, under certain circumstances.
    • CAD Representation/export link — Allows the dependency between an original CAD package to an exported CAD package while working with suppliers and customers.
    • "Depends on" links, used in System Engineering, are based on the directional links in order to specify which of the two objects depend on which.

  • Set the "Keep checked out" flag default per user — In complex engineering modeling scenario, where each engineer is designing a different portion of the assembly, it is important that all users share the latest information. To increase efficiency and user productivity, each user can define his/her own lifecycle operation setting default, such that the check in operation will immediately invoke the check out operation. In this manner, the other engineers get the latest version of the sub-assembly on the one hand, and the corresponding engineer keeps enhancing his/her model. A flag displays the object state, alerting that there is still a checked out version outside. Once the final version is ready, the user cancels this automatic setting, and the latest version is checked in.
  • Implementation of project-based security to "Design Copy" — Project-based authorization is now applicable to the "Design Copy" option as well. The "Design Copy" capability enables users to leverage corporate IP, save time, and avoid errors, by reusing existing projects and modifying them accordingly. In order to impose security measures, duplicated designs can be secured by defined projects. Project-based authorization is already available in SMARTEAM — Editor and the CAD Integrations. Users are able to view, access and manipulate documents according to their user, group and role-based authorizations in a specific project — as defined by the administrator and the project manager.
    • Project-based authorizations enable businesses to meet enterprise-wide implementation needs.
    • The authorization to access information and modify it can be governed by the project(s) to which the object is related.
    • Simple user interface helps authorized users to easily administrate user access permissions for a project.
  • Improves the productivity and simplicity of engineers' work though a silent lifecycle operation — An optional, predefined, yet flexible, user option, enabling users to perform lifecycle operations in a "No Dialog" lifecycle mode enabling automatic management of lifecycle operations without manual intervention.
  • Enhanced visualization capabilities (specified in the Viewer text, applicable to all Collaboration Dashboard products.)
  • Installation enhancements improve administration usability
    • Insert SmartDbExplorer, SmartDBRepairing and SmartDBUpgrade into EDR as admin tool
    • Insert the MUS client into the EDR core
  • Supports Crystal Report 11.0 — The embedded OLE DB provider in SMARTEAM — Editor enables businesses to leverage SMARTEAM knowledge by exposing data to Crystal Report 11.0, allowing users to generate sophisticated reports on any SMARTEAM objects, enhancing decision-making. For example users can define queries by condition formulas, e.g., around projects start design date and end date; by engineers' names; according to physical size of a part, or any other attribute that is recorded in SMARTEAM.

    Crystal Report 11.0 delivers:

    • Dynamic and cascading prompts

SMARTEAM — CATIA Supply Chain Engineering Exchange (SEE)

  • This new product is introduced in SMARTEAM V5.16 A CATIA V5 relational design comparing and reconciliation tool empowering business partner collaboration. SMARTEAM — CATIA Supply Chain Engineering Exchange (SEE) enables SMARTEAM — CATIA Integration (CAI) users to fortify the bi-directional, CATIA V5 relational design data exchange with business partners through a lifecycle-managed, authentic CATIA V5 compare and reconciliation process that maintains data integrity and links consistency across heterogeneous partner environments (for example, SMARTEAM, ENOVIA V4 or V5 VPM, or any other PDM system).

SMARTEAM — CATIA Integration users can interactively visualize and compare a set or a subset of CATIA documents coming, for example from an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or a supplier, and reconcile / synchronize selected documents back into existing SMARTEAM-managed CATIA V5 documents. This facilitates decision-making, and adherence to CATIA relational design associativity rules. SEE addresses daily supply chain interaction pains by eliminating errors, saving time, and enabling companies to gain competitive advantages by providing innovative products to the market faster.

The reconciliation process begins with the loading of the source model in CATIA V5. Following reception of a new or modified CATIA V5 package from a business partner, SEE enables users to identify those documents that are common to both source and target, and compares them in a 3D mode, side-by-side. Finally, users make the appropriate decision, and easily select the right documents to be incorporated into the original model, while maintaining link consistency and data integrity, regardless of the source.

SMARTEAM — P Integration supports the management of Pro/ENGINEER drawing formats, stand-alone user-defined features, accelerator files and reports, in addition to the already supported parts, assemblies, drawings, layouts files, manufacturing objects, skeleton parts, as well as the links between them. The SMARTEAM Integration recognizes these Pro/ENGINEER objects and automatically saves them and their related links into SMARTEAM. In this manner, when such an object is retrieved from the SMARTEAM vault, other objects on which it is dependent will be retrieved as well, maintaining data integrity and management.
  • Supports multiple Pro/ENGINEER versions on a single workstation — SMARTEAM — P Integration supports multiple Pro/ENGINEER version installations on a single PEI workstation, that is a single PEI user/machine can work with different Pro/ENGINEER versions. This allows suppliers to work with multiple OEMs, which may work with different Pro/ENGINEER versions (for example Wildfire and Wildfire 2). A single user, however can use a single Pro/ENGINEER version at a time.
  • Object rename — SMARTEAM — P Integration enables users to rename vaulted Pro/ENGINEER files and objects (for example, models, attributes). Objects that are linked to the renamed object are automatically updated upon the following modification. In this manner, users can update, for example, the filename of a part that was already checked in the SMARTEAM vault with a temporary file name, in order to comply with a part catalog number from the ERP system, or to a supplier part number — if desired. This supports an organization's business logic for managing part numbers and file names.
  • Edited object notification — The SMARTEAM — P Integration lets users become aware of objects that have been modified in the Pro/ENGINEER session. A refresh of the data manager tree will display an asterisk next to any object that has changed in the session since it was opened from SMARTEAM. This allows users to proactively check out objects that require editing prior to attempting to perform a check in, and enhances Work in Progress (WIP) design collaboration.
  • Load new structure in Pro/ENGINEER — SMARTEAM — P Integration lets users to create an assembly structure including drawing links in SMARTEAM and load the entire structure (without geometry) to the Pro/ENGINEER session. This option allows the project manager to create a high level definition of a top design, which can later be expanded in detail by the designer.
  • Administrator options — In SMARTEAM V5.16 most Pro/ENGINEER user options can only be set by the administrator:

    Options requiring administrator privileges:

    • Save user parameters
    • Save mass properties
    • Save suppressed objects
    • Save assembly instances
    • Save part instances
    • Save model dependencies
    • Display the "Project Manager" dialog
    • Default license timeout value in minutes (new)

Options available to be set by the user:

    • Expanded instance in the data management tree
    • Prompt for simplified graphical representations — a light mode load of the Pro/ENGINEER model. All vaulted files are copied-out, but the assembly opens and loads into memory a defined subset of the files necessary to complete the work. This reduces the time it will take to upload the complete Pro/ENGINEER assembly.
    • Leave objects in Pro/ENGINEER session during Check in/Release
  • Latest version support — The SMARTEAM — P Integration now supports Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 as well as Wildfire 1.0 and Pro/ENGINEER 2001. This support was initially made available in SMARTEAM V5.13 SP8 and V5.14 SP5.

Vault Replication (RDS)

Hardware requirements

  • RepliWeb Deployment Suite (RDS) does not require a special hardware configuration. It can work either on the Vault Server, or any other computer with sufficient resources. Resources allocation for RepliWeb does not require a dedicated or specialized computer.
  • Dual CPU Pentium™ III 700 or higher
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM or higher
  • Disk space: 100 MB free disk space
  • Network connection: Available 192KB (depends on database size and frequency of updates) connection between sites (T1) or better. This parameter depends on the total data volume, number of users and files and intensity of communications.

Note: For hardware requirements on the Vault Server, refer to the SMARTEAM — Foundation section.

Software requirements: SMARTEAM Multi-site delivers the means to configure and work in an environment where each vault has a parallel vault on all other sites.

For Vault Server system requirements, refer to the SMARTEAM — Foundation Vault Server software section.

Prerequisites

  • A server called RepliWeb Deployment Suite (RDS), which is used to replicate files between sites.
  • A service called RepliWeb Drive Mapper (RDM), which compliments the RDS server. RDM is required only in cases where RDS is running under a Win32 environment, and the Vault directories reside on another computer than the vault server machine.

Installations of these two programs are not included on the SMARTEAM — Multi-site CD-ROM. Code must be downloaded from the SMARTEAM Web site accessible through the IBM support site at

SMARTEAM Corporation delivers a free license of RDS in case both of the following conditions are in place:

  1. The platform is either Win32 or Linux.
  2. The host computers do not have more than two CPUs.

In case RDM is required, and the conditions for a free license of RDS are in place — an RDM license will also be delivered free of charge by SMARTEAM Corporation.

Each Vault site requires an RDS installation. RDS can be installed on Windows, Linux or UNIX.

  • In a Win32 environment, RDS should be installed on the Vault Server machine.
  • If the vault directories reside on Linux or UNIX, there are two possible RDS configurations:
    • Recommended (for performance reasons) — RDS is installed directly on the Linux/UNIX machine.
    • Optional — RDS is installed on the Vault Server machine.

Full details on specific supported operation system platforms for RDS can be found in the following link

WLS hardware requirements

Common hardware requirements: The following requirements are common to all operating systems supported by this release. System unit and graphics adapter requirements are platform-specific and are specified in subsequent topics below.

  • Required components and features
    • Disk drive: An internal or external disk drive (minimum recommended size is 4 GB) is required to store program executables, program data, the user environment, and to allow paging space.
    • Memory: 256 MB of RAM is the minimum recommended for all applications.
    • Internal/external drives: A CD-ROM drive is required for program installation and for access to the online documentation, which can optionally be downloaded to disk.
    • Display: A graphics color display compatible with the selected platform-specific graphics adapter. The minimum recommended size for usability reasons is 17 inches. Minimum resolution for Windows workstations is 1024 x 768.
    • Keyboard: A specific keyboard compatible with the selected installation locale may be required for national language support.
    • Pointing device: Three-button mouse. On Windows workstations, a two-button mouse may alternatively be used (the third button is emulated with a keyboard sequence). The three-button mouse is recommended for usability reasons. IntelliMouse (two buttons plus a wheel instead of the third button) is an alternative to the three-button mouse on Windows workstations. The wheel acts as the middle button to allow additional manipulations, such as panning and scrolling.

The robustness of the overall solution is dependent on the robustness of the operating system and the hardware environment used. Windows hardware configurations certified by Dassault Systemes for running SMARTEAM products are published at

Although WLS V5 products might run on configurations or with graphic adapters other than those specified for each of the platforms below, incidents specific to such configurations or adapters will not be accepted for support.

Hardware requirements for Windows 2000 and Windows XP

  • System unit: An Intel™ Pentium III or Pentium 4-based workstation running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition or Windows XP Professional Edition.
  • Graphics adapter: A graphics adapter with a 3D OpenGL accelerator is required.

Note: Graphic performance on local transformations (panning, zooming, rotating model) will depend on the selected graphics adapter. The graphics adapter should have the following capabilities:

    • 24-bits, true color, double buffered visual
    • 24-bits, Z-buffer
    • Stencil buffer
    • Minimum supported resolution: 1024 x 768; a resolution of 1280 x 1024 is recommended for usability reasons
  • Network adapter: An active LAN adapter (Ethernet or Token Ring, installed and configured) is required for license key purposes.

WLS software requirements

Common software requirements: WLS V5 for SMARTEAM runs on:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Windows XP

Refer to the Program Directory or contact your IBM Support Center for appropriate corrective service to apply to the software described below.

Software requirements for Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP: One of the following:

  • Windows 2000 Professional Edition with Service Pack 4 or higher
  • Windows XP Professional Edition

With the above, the following components at the minimum levels indicated are required:

  • A Microsoft implementation of OpenGL libraries as delivered with Windows 2000 and Windows XP. These libraries may have to be modified to accommodate the selected graphics adapter when installing the graphics adapter and its associated drivers. For recommendations related to driver levels based on certified configurations, visit
  • A localized version of the operating system may be required when the selected installation locale differs from Latin 1.

Note: For remote access from networked clients, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Windows XP Professional Edition support Terminal Server. Access through standard browsers also requires Citrix MetaFrame 1.0 to be installed on the server.

Access to product information: Product information is delivered with the product CDs in HTML format. An HTML browser is required to access this documentation. Online documentation may be installed and used only in the same supported operating environments as WLS V5 for SMARTEAM.

  • In a Microsoft Windows environment, one of the following browsers is required:
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer at a minimum level of 6.0
    • Mozilla 1.4 with the Java plug-in installed
  • In a UNIX environment, Mozilla 1.4 with the Java plug-in installed

In addition to a Java-enabled Web browser, the Java Plug-in at level 1.4 is required to search online documentation. For Microsoft Windows, only the 1.4 Plug-in distributed by Sun is supported. It can be downloaded from

Although access to the online documentation might work on other HTML browsers, incidents specific to browsers other than those specified are not eligible for support.

Product information is also supplied with the product CDs in Portable Document Format (PDF) form. Viewing and printing of the PDF files requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader at a minimum level of 5.0. The latest level of the reader can be downloaded, at no charge, from

Prerequisites for the license management environment: Microsoft Windows workstations must have an active LAN card (Ethernet or token ring) and TCP/IP installed and properly configured, even in the case of nodelock keys, though for nodelock there is no need to have the workstations connected to the network. No additional license management software is required when accessing nodelock license keys.

IBM License Use Management (LUM) is required to serve concurrent license keys across a network. A LUM configuration file (i4ls.ini) is required on WLS V5 for SMARTEAM clients to access concurrent license keys from these servers. Server license management mechanisms are available for all supported operating environments. Nodelock licensing management mechanisms are only available on supported Windows environments.

IBM LUM level:

  • V4.6.8 + Patch 4.6.8.3 is the certified, recommended level.
  • V4.6.5 is the minimum level for UNIX, Windows 2000 Professional, Server, Advanced Server, or XP license key servers.
  • V4.6.7 is the minimum level for Windows Server 2003 license key servers.
  • V4.6.5 is the minimum level when the High Availability Licensing (HAL) mechanism offered by LUM is used.
  • V4.6.7, or later, is required when the Concurrent Offline Licensing mechanism offered by LUM is used.
  • V4.6.8 supports LUM service across a firewall and other new features.

Various release levels of LUM, including LUM V4.6.8 + Patch 4.6.8.3, can be downloaded at no charge from

SMARTEAM packaging and products

The SMARTEAM packaging model gives customers an easy way to select the solution best suited to their user profiles and process requirements. At the heart of this model are:

  • Platforms
  • Solutions
  • Configurations
  • Products

Platforms and solutions: SMARTEAM solutions, their configurations, and products address typical customer profiles. SMARTEAM delivers basic applications in a suite of feature-based solid modeling solutions that comply with Microsoft Windows user interface guidelines. These solutions offer a familiar production environment for users who are already comfortable with native Windows applications.

Configurations: Configurations offers a convenient and attractive way for customers to order and install a selected combination of products appropriate to a particular user profile as a single licensed offering. Configurations can be used in either of two licensing modes:

SMARTEAM add-on and shareable products require a license for a configuration that includes at least the prerequisite products. License keys for SMARTEAM configurations are acquired and released for the total configuration. The functions within a configuration cannot be shared.

A configuration is required for each SMARTEAM seat. There are two types of configurations:

  • Standard Configurations : Contain a predefined set of functions and products, corresponding to the most common user profiles across industries and processes. These configurations are offered at an attractive price compared to the sum of the prices of the individual products. Any number of shareable products can be ordered to complement a standard configuration.
  • Custom Configurations : Customize any standard configuration by adding SMARTEAM add-on products. Custom configurations allow customers to adapt configuration content to specific user needs while still benefiting from competitive configuration pricing.

A custom configuration can be ordered for one seat, or an unlimited number of identical seats. The number of each add-on product in a custom configuration must equal the number of base configurations ordered. Regardless of the number of seats ordered, a custom configuration order will generate a single serial number and will have a single license assigned. After installation, any changes made to the base configuration must be applied to all seats under that serial number.

After initial installation, configurations allow customers to manage the evolution and growth of configurations by ordering additional add-on or shareable products.

Products: Products are the elementary software building blocks for SMARTEAM installations. Products may be ordered in three ways:

  1. As a predefined set of products included in a standard configuration
  2. As add-on products on top of a standard configuration to build a custom configuration.
  3. As a shareable product . In this case the product is delivered with its own license key. Shareable products allow one user to obtain the key at the beginning of the session, or to leave it for another user within the network.

System program order (5628-SMT)

To ship machine-readable materials and publications and to register for future updates, one System Program Order (5628-SMT) must be placed in addition to the basic license orders.

Within the System Program Order, specify the Media Feature Number for each of the workstation platforms you will be using, and the feature code of the Solution products you are ordering, based on the following tables:

                   Media
Workstation feature Distribution
Platform number medium

The term "Oracle program" includes, and these terms and conditions also apply to, any updates or upgrades to the software you may receive from time to time under a subscription service or other support arrangement.

The licensed products you have purchased, as defined in the IBM Customer Agreement or IBM International Customer Agreement (IICA), to which terms by installing the computer software contained in it you are accepting and agreeing, contains a database engine software component (the "Oracle component") used under license from Oracle Software Systems Israel.

Program services: For a list of all currently supported releases of CATIA, ENOVIA and SMARTEAM products, visit

At the bottom of the page, select "End of support dates" under Plan.

Program Services offer a method of reporting code-related problems for SMARTEAM V5 and WLS licensed software products. Program Services are available electronically using the Problem Reporting process at

Select Submit a new problem under Problem Submission. You will be required to sign in to the site.

Note: If you have not yet obtained an IBM common registration user ID, visit

On the next page, select "Free Support" for the appropriate product. When using the "Free Support" option, all communications will be either through the PMR or by e-mail, and must be in English. (If the customer has ECSR (Electronic Customer Support Representative) enhanced support (reference PRPQ 5799-C88) with the SMARTEAM support feature, select "Contracted Support" for the appropriate product.) Customers that do not have enhanced support will only be able to enter data into the PMR; all subsequent communications will be through e-mail. Response time for "Free Support" PMRs will be within 2 business days.

Not all options of the PLM technical support e-services are available in all countries.

If the problem reported is not known to be a code-related problem, the customer will be informed that work will continue on it provided the customer has ECSR (Electronic Customer Support Representative) enhanced support (reference PRPQ 5799-C88) with the SMARTEAM support feature. Enhanced support for WLS is included in the base product's feature code; no separate enhanced support is required.

For additional information about the enhanced support contract and other available PLM services offerings, visit

Click on the "ECSR Enhanced support details" link or contact your PLM marketing representative or authorized IBM Business Partner for more information.

Preventive Service is delivered through the next release of SMARTEAM V5 products. The new release also includes corrections to problems, depending on the time of their submission and their severity.

During the Program Services period, Corrective Service for SMARTEAM V5 releases is delivered through service packs on a regular basis. A service pack includes corrections for Blocking problems in production systems reported on this release and all corrections available for all components at the time it is built. Service packs are delivered at the same time for all platforms currently supported. Each service pack supersedes the previous one and may be installed on top of the released level or on top of a previous service pack. The exception is WLS products where corrective service is delivered in the next release of the product. No maintenance for WLS products is delivered in the service packs.)

Customers may request a correction via a service pack for Blocking Problems. A Blocking Problem is defined as:

  • A problem that stops production: The customer is currently using the level for which a fix is requested in a production environment.
  • A problem that prevents migration: The customer must provide the migration plan.
  • A problem that halts testing of a given level: A fix will allow customer to continue the testing.
  • Installation problem: A problem that prevents the customer from installing or using the product.
  • Regression: Problems reported as regressions may be due to an operation that was being performed erroneously or created incorrect data with a previous release and the current release no longer permits these operations. Therefore, each problem reported as a regression must be evaluated. True regressions will be handled as Severity 1 problems.

SMARTEAM and WLS V5 Products

Program Services will be available for this release of SMARTEAM and WLS V5 products until June 2, 2007.

Since there was no SMARTEAM V5.15, the end of corrective service (EoCS) and end of service (EOS) dates for SMARTEAM and WLS V5.14 will be September 5, 2006.

Note: Customers experiencing problems with DB2 UDB V8.2 delivered with the SMARTEAM V5 product may report these problems through the SMARTEAM support structure, as long as DB2 UDB is being used in conjunction with SMARTEAM and the DB2 and SMARTEAM products are still within their respective support periods. Customers will receive the same level of support as they are entitled to for their SMARTEAM products.
