Overview
WebSphere® MQ enables you to integrate your applications reliably and consistently, allowing you to leverage your existing software and hardware assets more effectively. As the current market leader for message-oriented middleware, it offers scalable, enterprise-class connectivity designed to grow with your integration challenges and needs. WebSphere MQ enables you to begin deploying your enterprise service bus (ESB) today and gain the benefits of an integrated service-oriented architecture (SOA).
WebSphere MQ provides reliable, resilient application integration by passing messages between
applications and Web services. It reduces the risk of information loss and the need to reconcile
communicating IT systems by using queuing and transactional facilities that help preserve the
integrity of messages across the network. WebSphere MQ eliminates the need to write complex
communications code and offers a choice of simple APIs (Message Queue Interface [MQI] and JMS)
that are consistent across the range of more than 40 supported operating environments.

Description
WebSphere MQ
Speed to market and quality of service are critical for success, so companies need to be agile to survive. WebSphere MQ provides a versatile foundation for an enterprise service bus (ESB).
Business integration
WebSphere software includes business integration products and solutions that can help integrate just two applications, a single department, or the entire enterprise, reaching across business channels, trading partners, and Web customers. The WebSphere platform includes:
- WebSphere MQ, the core of application integration, which integrates many platforms. Providing the messaging foundation for an ESB, and assuring reliable message delivery, it can be used alone or combined seamlessly with WebSphere Application Server. Both WebSphere MQ and WebSphere Application Server provide messaging resources that can form the foundation for a company's ESB, which can grow incrementally with their business needs.
- WebSphere MQ Extended Security Edition, which enhances WebSphere MQ with end-to-end, application-level data protection features. It enables enterprise-wide, remote management of security polices on your MQ network and can be deployed to existing production environments without changes to existing WebSphere MQ applications.
- WebSphere Message Broker (formerly WebSphere Business Integration Message Broker), a powerful information broker that includes a one-to-many connectivity model plus transformation, intelligent routing, and information flow modelling across multiple, disparate business systems. It also supports publications and subscriptions including mobile clients, and remote telemetry devices.
- WebSphere MQ Everyplace, which brings the benefits of assured message delivery and rock-solid security to the failure-prone environment of mobile working.
- WebSphere MQ Workflow, a business process management system that enables the definition, execution, and swift change of complete business processes that span systems, applications, and people.
- WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation, which builds on the best-in-class IBM WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment to provide a powerful standards-based integration platform for building and deploying Business Process Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL) and Web Service-based composite applications.
In addition, IBM has further software products to support business integration, such as its WebSphere Business Integration Adapters.

Compatibility: WebSphere MQ V6.0 will interoperate with queue managers from any previous level of WebSphere MQ or MQSeries® products.
The WebSphere MQ Explorer now runs on the Linux x86 platform (in addition to the Windows platform). The MQ Explorer can be used on a client connection from an earlier supported level of WebSphere MQ or MQSeries on a different platform (for example, WebSphere MQ for AIX® V5.3 or MQSeries for Compaq NonStop Kernel V5.1).
Limitations: For 64-bit queue-manager platforms, WebSphere MQ V6.0 does not support 32-bit instances of DB2. Customers who use 32-bit instances of DB2 must migrate them to 64-bit instances, as detailed in the DB2 documentation.
There is no supported migration path for the following:
- MQSeries Sun Solaris, Intel Platform V5.1 to WebSphere MQ V6.0 Solaris x86-64
- WebSphere MQ for Linux V6.0 (zSeries) to WebSphere MQ V6.0 (zSeries s390x)

Charge metrics definitions
"Per processor" charging under Full Capacity
In Full Capacity charging where charges are based on a capacity-based metric, such as a processor Proofs of Entitlement (PoEs) must be acquired for all capacity that is active on the server where the Program or a component of the Program is run.
As an example, a Customer has ordered a server with four processors. The server is shipped with six processors, but two of them are "inactive." Thus, four processors are active for the customer.
Notes:
- IBM defines a physical processor in a computer as a functional unit that interprets and executes instructions. A physical processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic and logic units.
- Multi-core technology allows two or more processors (commonly called "cores") to be active on a single silicon chip. With multi-core technology, IBM considers each "core" to be a physical processor. For example, in a dual-core chip, there are two physical processors residing on the single silicon chip.
- In the zSeries Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) environment, each IFL engine is considered a single "physical processor."
- Threading, a technique which makes a single processor seem to perform as two or more, does not affect the count of physical processors.
- Where "blade" technology is employed, each "blade" is considered a separate server and charging is based upon the total number of processors on the blade on which the Program is run.
"Per processor" charging under Sub-capacity (when available)
Required authorized use for eligible Programs is based upon the highest observed daily utilization of the partitions where the Program or a component of the Program, executes during a reporting period as measured by an IBM license management tool. IBM license management tool use is required for your submission of periodic reports to IBM. For each sub-capacity eligible software Program, the required authorized use is re-evaluated based upon the quarterly sub-capacity reports submitted to IBM.
-
The number of authorizations you must acquire is the smaller value of either of the following
methods:
- The total number of active (available for use) processors in the machine, or
-
The sum of (1) and (2) as follows (any remaining fraction of a processor must be rounded up to a
full processor in the final aggregation)
- When a Program is run in partitions with dedicated processors, the sum of the Processing Units of those partitions, and
-
When a Program is run in partitions that are members of a Shared Processing Pool, the smaller of:
The number of processors assigned to the pool, or
The sum of the Virtual Processors of each Uncapped Partition plus the Processing Units in each Capped Partition running a Program.
-
z/VM® Guest Charging
- The total number of active (available for use) processors in the machine, or
-
The sum of (1) and (2) as follows (any remaining fraction of a processor must be rounded up to a
full processor in the final aggregation)
- When a program is run in VM Guests with dedicated processors, the sum of the Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) engines of those VM Guests, and
-
When a program is run in VM Guests that are members of a Shared Processing Pool (z/VM), the smaller
of:
The number of processors assigned to the z/VM pool, or
The sum of the IFL engines in each z/VM pool running a Program.

- Threading, a technique which makes a single processor seem to perform as two or more, does NOT affect the count of physical processors
"Per managed processor" charging under Full Capacity
"Per managed processor": Charges are based on the active processors on the machines in the computing environment affiliated with the Program rather than on the server where the program is run. The managed processors which require PoEs are defined in the Charges section of the Announcement or the License Information's Program-unique terms.
- The Program may not run on some or all of the processors for which PoEs are required by the Program's valuation method.
- In the zSeries Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) environment, each IFL engine is considered a single "physical processor."
- Threading, a technique which makes a single processor seem to perform as two or more, does NOT affect the count of physical processors.
- Where "blade" technology is employed, each "blade" is considered a separate server and charging is based upon the total number of processors on the blades with which the Program is affiliated.
Processor Day
Processor Day is defined as the number of physical processors that are activated to increase Temporary Capacity on a server during a contiguous 24-hour period, beginning at the time when Temporary Capacity is initiated. Processor usage is measured in day increments and is independent of the time of the day used. At initial activation, each processor being used is charged for one day of use; software charges are incurred on a daily basis for each processor that has been activated on a temporary basis for every IBM middleware program that is loaded on that server. An additional charge of a processor day is made for each 24 hours of continuous usage after the initial charge. For example: If the On/Off CoD server offering is activated on a pSeries® or an iSeries server and one temporary engine enabled for one day, the processor-day charge per product is applied for each eligible software product on that particular server. Likewise, if two temporary engines are enabled for one day, the processor-day price per product is multiplied by two engines and applied for each eligible software product on that particular server.

IBM Electronic Services
IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put
you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution
that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support on
the IBM . You should benefit
from greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM
Electronic Services is comprised of two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services
news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent.
IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM system. It is designed to
proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic,
customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware
error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service
agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware
problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service
that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected
through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they
are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
