At a glance

IBM Workplace Forms provides a secure, dynamic, and intelligent front-end to on demand business processes. The IBM Workplace Forms product family consists of a server, designer, and client viewer that together enables the creation, deployment, and streamlining of XML forms-based processes. By leveraging open standards to integrate an intelligent user interface with high value back-end systems, IBM Workplace Forms provides public and private sector organizations with security-rich forms that leverage existing sources and systems to help better serve customers and increase operational efficiency.

By automating the accurate capture and processing of information, IBM Workplace Forms helps reduce manual intervention, speed up transactions, and increase operational efficiency. Workplace Forms enables organizations to achieve a "once and done" process by eliminating or reducing costly exception handling and enabling straight-through processing of transactions using open standards for data integration.

Built on open standards-based component architecture, IBM Workplace Forms provides the forms front-end to SOA-based component applications. In addition, Workplace Forms enables integration and deployment with IBM Middleware and other standards-supporting products by supporting JSR-168, JSR-170, J2EE, Web Services, as well as SOA components.

Overview

IBM Workplace Forms includes three products:

IBM Workplace Forms Viewer is a feature-rich desktop application used to view, fill, sign, submit, and route e-forms, and is able to function on the desktop or within a browser. It enables full connectivity with real-time integration using Web Services. The open standards framework of IBM Workplace Forms enables Workplace Forms Viewer to operate in portal or stand-alone environments, in online or off-line modes, and as a plug-in for thin or rich-client browsers.

IBM Workplace Forms Designer is an easy-to-use WYSIWYG e-form design environment that supports the drag-and-drop creation of precision forms with an open and accessible, XML-schema-derived data model. IBM Workplace Forms Designer leverages open standards to deliver advanced forms-based business process automation solutions that integrate seamlessly across lines of business applications and IT infrastructure.

IBM Workplace Forms Server enables the creation and delivery of XML forms applications. It provides a common, open interface to enable integration of e-forms data with server-side applications using industry-standard XML schemas. IBM Workplace Forms Server also delivers a true zero-footprint solution, providing e-forms to external users quickly and efficiently within a browser without requiring additional downloads or plug-ins. IBM Workplace Forms Server provides a low administration solution for data-capture requirements while supporting precise viewing and printing, automated validation, and the security and compliance capabilities of XML e-forms.

Charge metrics definitions

Processor

In Full Capacity charging — Proofs of Entitlement (PoEs) must be acquired for all activated "processors" (available for use) that are on the server where the program or a component of the program is run.

  1. If there are program components included in the offering whose function is not to be included in the charge metric, these must be listed in the Program-unique Terms of the License Information.
  2. IBM defines a physical processor in a computer as a functional unit that interprets and executes instructions. A physical processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic and logic units.
  3. Multi-core technology allows two or more processors (commonly called "cores") to be active on a single silicon chip. Unless otherwise announced, with multi-core technology, IBM considers each "core" to be a physical processor. For example, in a dual-core chip, there are two physical processors residing on the single silicon chip.
  4. In the IBM eServer zSeries® Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) environment, each IFL engine is considered a single "physical processor."
  5. Threading, a technique which makes a single processor seem to perform as two or more, does not affect the count of physical processors.
  6. Where "blade" technology is employed, each "blade" is considered a separate server and charging is based upon the total number of processors on the blade on which the program is run.

Registered user

A registered user (user) is one and only one individual, machine, program, or device with a specific identity (ID) within or outside your enterprise which is recorded in a registry (that is, table, directory, and so on). A PoE is evidence of your authorization to use a program and is required for each user accessing the program or any program component.

  1. Access to the program is restricted to users recorded in the registry.
  2. Users have unique specific identity and IDs cannot be shared
  3. When multiple, unique registries exist, the registries will be additive for charging purposes even if a specific ID exists in both registries.
  4. An ID may establish one or more connections and count as a single user.

Authorized user

An authorized user (user) is one and only one individual, machine, program, or device with a specific identity (ID) within or outside your enterprise.

A PoE is evidence of your authorization to use a program and is required for each user accessing the program or any component, application, feature, function, and/or capability thereof, either directly or indirectly, through any means on behalf of the user in any manner.

The program may be installed on one or more computers, and accessed by multiple users provided that a user authorization has been obtained for each individual user.

  1. Users have unique specific identity and IDs cannot be shared.
  2. An ID may establish one or more connections and count as a single user.
  3. An ID may only be reassigned for the long-term replacement of personnel, machine, program, or device.

Software Maintenance applies: Yes

Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software Subscription and Technical Support, is included in the Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support is provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service enhances customer productivity, with voice and electronic access into IBM support organizations.

IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Maintenance can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option that is available.

While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions; and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Guide at

Software Maintenance does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under this agreement.

IBM Electronic Services

IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support on the IBM eServer. You should benefit from greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent™.

IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
