Description

IBM offers more than 70 tools that feature common interfaces and cross-tool integration, tested under the same configurations and workloads as the databases they support. In the era of autonomic computing, DB2 and IMS Tools will become increasingly self-managed in terms of dynamically monitoring and managing data, and taking responsibility for decision making and initiating action.

Application management

IMS Connect Extensions for z/OS, V1.2 (5655-K48) enhances IMS Connect performance, availability, and security. IMS Connect Extensions for z/OS provides comprehensive event recording and performance monitoring, features dynamic workload management capabilities, and offers additional security facilities to IMS Connect.

The new release of IMS Connect Extensions for z/OS has the following new features and enhancements:

  • Status monitor — active sessions: Provides IMS Connect resource and state data in real time through the dialog. The active sessions enhancement displays information on the status of all current sessions. The dialog can be used to diagnose problems in real time and predict the outcome of sessions.
  • Publisher application programming interface (API): Provides an API that allows captured data to be published to an external monitor.
  • Transaction routing enhancement: In addition to existing routing capabilities, this enhancement enables the selection of a primary datastore. The message origin datastore is substituted with the primary datastore. If the primary datastore is unavailable, dynamic workload management capabilities are used to find an alternate datastore. To set a primary datastore, a single option needs to be changed through the dialog.
  • Journal enhancement: Improved journaling capabilities include the ability to:
    • Change journaling options dynamically
    • Define journal archiving JCL using a skeleton for:
      • Better support of tapes and other storage mediums
      • Control over retention periods
      • Improved organization of data sets
  • Journal print utility enhancements: Provide improved reporting capabilities by using better record selection options.
  • Client services exit routine: A new exit allows clients to request services from IMS Connect Extensions for z/OS. The capabilities include:
    • Who Am I: Clients can query information about their IMS Connect session. Information includes, port, socket, client name, and client IP address.
    • Clients can change IMS Connect passwords.
  • Resource tracing enhancements: Allow selective tracing based on IMS Connect variables. Tracing uses filters to control the amount of data recorded by the IMS Connect Extensions trace commands. The command can be issued dynamically from the dialog.
  • Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) and Domain Name System (DNS) support: Supports IPv6 addresses and DNS names.
  • Migrating definitions data sets: A new utility is available to import and export IMS Connect Extensions definitions data sets.
  • Client version of HWSTECL0: Provides a user version of the event exit HWSTECL0.

Database administration

DB2 Thread Expert for z/OS (5697-H85) gives you the ability to cancel threads on DB2 objects that are needed by DB2 utilities or that are held by long-running or errant applications. This important function frees DB2 objects for more important or higher priority uses. The product can be used to perform a variety of routine tasks, such as canceling threads on a DB2 table space before the table space is reorganized or copied.

DB2 Thread Expert displays and cancels active threads on the DB2 subsystem to which you connect and also on any remote subsystems that can communicate with that subsystem through DB2 data sharing, the Distributed Data Facility (DDF), and Distributed Relational Database Architecture™ (DRDA®).

You have the choice of two interfaces:

  • An ISPF interface for viewing, canceling, and managing threads interactively
  • A batch interface for canceling threads within a batch job step

A single product instance can handle requests from multiple users concurrently.

Key features:

  • Provides an ISPF interface from which you can quickly and easily display a list of active threads, drill down to detailed information about a particular thread, cancel threads, and view messages from cancellation processing. From this interface, product administrators can temporarily override some of the started task initialization options, if necessary.
  • Provides a batch interface for canceling threads within a batch job step. A single job step can include many cancel requests, each for a different set of threads.
  • Enables you to specify numerous types of thread-filtering criteria to identify precisely the set of threads to display or cancel, including the DB2 objects that threads are referencing, the connection type, and the thread attributes.
  • Supports an escalated cancel option that issues the z/OS Cancel command to terminate the batch job, TSO user, or started task from which a thread originates. This option is useful for terminating any threads that cannot be terminated by the DB2-CANCEL THREAD command during normal cancellation processing.
  • Provides detailed information about individual threads in the ISPF interface and in batch job reports.
  • Supports DB2 data-sharing environments. You can display and cancel threads on any active DB2 subsystem in the same data-sharing group as the subsystem to which they connect.
  • Supports optional user exits for performing any pre- or post-cancel processing that users need. Provides sample exits and DSECTs that users can use as a basis for creating their custom exits.
  • Supports an optional security user exit that controls the ability of users to perform product functions such as canceling threads and displaying certain ISPF panels. Users do not need any special DB2 privileges to use the product.
  • Optionally records audit information on thread cancellation activities and logs messages from product operations in DB2 tables. This audit and logging information is useful for determining who canceled which threads, troubleshooting problems, and assessing product performance.
  • Enables you to install and customize the product easily without performing an initial program load (IPL) of the system.

Performance management

DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer for z/OS, V2.2 (5655-I22) PTF UK05248 delivers a new function called Easy Explain to give an alternate view of the explain data and additional DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer enhancements.

Comparison of old and new plans is now supported. You can:

  • Populate a set of DB2 tables with existing plans of access that you want to store for later comparison using Easy Explain
  • Use an export strategy to compare old and new access plans, and their costs. DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer:
    • Has several new parameters to drive the process
    • Reads the SQL stored by Easy Explain
    • Performs a current explain and cost analysis
    • Compares this cost analysis with the previously stored plan and costs

Retro-explains of old plans: DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer can now retroactively explain access plans from any user's Plan_Table, providing the access path and costing information for existing plans.

Limited integration is available for TSO ISPF interaction:

  • You can utilize either the existing functions or the Easy Explain functions from the DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer ISPF menu to analyze SQL.
  • Easy Explain can extract and analyze SQL from:
    • Source programming language files
    • The catalog (plans, packages)
    • The DB2 Query Management Facility for DB2
  • DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer can analyze SQL stored in:
    • DBRM libraries
    • PDS members
    • Sequential data sets
    • The DB2 Query Management Facility of DB2
  • More extensive integration is provided with Easy Explain in batch mode, including the old and new plan comparisons.

In addition to the Easy Explain function, this PTF includes an additional option for calling multiple DB2 subsystems from a single TSO installation of DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer. The product now allows you to choose the proper load library/program for execution based on the current release level for that subsystem (SVERS) or by SANLDATA member name (QHOST). See the full PTF description for additional enhancements.

Recovery management

DB2 Log Analysis Tool for z/OS, V2.3 (5655-E56) provides a powerful tool to ensure high availability and complete control over data integrity. It allows you to monitor data changes by automatically building reports of changes that are made to database tables.

You can specify reports by various database resource criteria, such as date, user, or table. You can isolate accidental or unwanted changes to your database tables. With Log Analysis Tool, you can avoid the processing overhead associated with data change monitoring.

Benefits include:

  • Improved data integrity
  • More efficient use of DB2
  • Improved uptime for on demand availability

You can view data changes by dates, users, tables, and other criteria. Using this filtering process, you can view data, then obtain summary and detail reports that show the original state of the data and its current state, plus other valuable information. From this process, you can establish tighter controls over the data to minimize the possibility of compromised data.

You can use DB2 Log Analysis Tool to perform a redo or undo operation without shutting down the system. DB2 Log Analysis Tool generates the SQL, which is sent to a file and executed by the DBA's preferred method.

This release contains the following enhancements:

  • Show uncommitted units of work: You can specify that you want to see the activity related to uncommitted units of work. When you specify that you want to see uncommitted activity, the activity matching all of your other filter criteria is reported on and carried through to all of the back-end processes like loading details into DB2 and SQL generation. Any uncommitted activity is denoted as such in the reports.
  • Impact report: You can specify that you want to generate an impact report when you run the general or details report. An impact report provides information on all of the activity (matching your filter criteria) from the specified end date and time to the current time. In effect, it shows you how much activity has occurred after the specified end date and time.
  • Dynamic allocation of data sets: Many data sets that were previously hardcoded in the product-generated JCL are now dynamically allocated by DB2 Log Analysis Tool. These allocations are based on internal array sizing when possible.
  • High-speed processing: The general report panel has a new option that allows a faster way of processing. This option may provide a significant performance improvement over normal processing for sites that use DATA CAPTURE CHANGES on their tables.

Utilities management

IMS Database Control Suite for z/OS, V3.2 (5655-L08) is designed for day-to-day management of your IBM IMS database environment. It automates time-consuming, manual maintenance tasks while minimizing the occurrence of associated errors. This product enables you to perform IMS database management tasks without the need for in-depth knowledge about tasks.

IMS Database Control Suite for z/OS, V3.2 provides new options that allow you to:

  • Load your pre-existing DBDSGRPs into IMS Database Control Suite for z/OS from the RECON data sets. With V3.2, you are no longer required to re-create the DBDSGRPs in IMS Database Control Suite.
  • Create DBDSGRPs using your own naming conventions rather than IMS Database Control Suite's generated names.
  • Create DBDSGRPs with a mix of High Availability Large Database (HALDB) and full-function databases. A single DBDSGRP can now contain more than one database type.
  • Confirm the DBRC SHARLVL, RECONPD, and GENMAX values during the Collect process before the values are initialized or changed in the RECONs.
  • Decide whether a new PSB for online image copies is to be generated or an existing one is to be used.
  • Use a wildcard to select DBDLIB members for batch database collections rather than all DBDS.
  • Clean up the old IMS Database Control Suite tables and RECON data from any previous batch collections based on the same DBDLIB, before re-running a DBDS batch collection. This prevents the batch function from creating new DBDSGRPs every time the function is run, which would cause duplicate tables and RECON data.
  • Utilize global commands that are added to the RECON maintenance function to allow updates on multiple RECON records.
  • Add more selectivity to the RECON Maintenance utility commands; for example, report on a selected DBDSGRP rather than on the entire RECON.
  • Migrate data stored in Database Control Suite for z/OS, V3.1 tables to V3.2 tables.
  • Automatically create a DBDSGRP for each logically related set of databases during ISPF collect.
  • Use System Administration "Tool diagnostic" to report the maintenance level of IBM IMS tools used in IMS Database Control Suite for z/OS.
  • Exploit IMS High Performance Image Copy options VIC and VICDSN introduced with V3.2 of IMS High Performance Image Copy.
  • Exploit the newest options in Version 3 of IMS Parallel Reorganization.

IMS High Performance Fast Path Utilities for z/OS, V2.2 (5655-K94) includes all of the features available in the following products:

  • IMS High Performance Fast Path Reorganization Tool:
    • This tool provides functions that determine utility use, dynamic allocation of databases, internal sorting, and the capability of running multiple DEDB areas in one step. The functions are:
      • ANALYZE: Provides complete DEDB integrity verification of all IMS pointer values, free space element chains, VSAM control fields, and space utilization in DEDBs. It also supplies the comprehensive analysis information required to effectively manage DEDB space utilization, performance characteristics, and physical attributes.
      • CHANGE: Allows restructuring of multiple DEDB areas and, in the process, analyzes the affected DEDB areas.
      • RELOAD: Provides reloading of multiple DEDB areas from the QSAM data sets and, in the process, analyzes them during the reload operation.
      • UNLOAD: Provides unloading of multiple DEDB areas to QSAM data sets.
  • IMS Fast Path Basic Tools:
    • DEDB Pointer Checker is an efficient utility for complete DEDB integrity verification.
    • DEDB Tuning Aid is an extension of the DEDB Pointer Checker. It supports evaluation of the potential benefits or impacts of changes to an existing DEDB, without a time-consuming unload and reload of the database.
    • DEDB Unload/Reload is a set of high-performance utilities for efficiently unloading and reloading or reorganizing DEDB areas.
  • IMS Fast Path Online Tools:
    • DEDB Online Pointer Checker runs as a fast path utility to collect pointer verification data from a DEDB area while that area is online and being updated by users. The collected data can then be passed to report-generating programs that are part of the batch DEDB Pointer Checker package.
    • DEDB Online Data Extract extracts segment data from an online DEDB area and writes the output to a sequential file.
    • DEDB Online Area Extender lets you extend the size of the DEDB area dynamically without taking the DEDB area offline. By providing an alternative to taking the DEDB offline, this utility is extremely helpful in environments where database availability is crucial.

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

The products in this announcement are capable as of their planned availability, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.

Value Unit-based pricing

Value Unit pricing for eligible zSeries® IPLA programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each zSeries IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Because MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description.

Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for customers. For each zSeries IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the "required license capacity." Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulates that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three-digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three-digit code.

Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offers additional price benefits for customers. The quantity of each zSeries IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as "entitled license capacity." If you want to grow your entitled license capacity for a zSeries IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired.

For each zSeries IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:

  • Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs
  • Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise
  • Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost

To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to Value Units or vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. For additional information or to obtain a copy of the Value Unit Converter Tool, visit the Value Unit Converter Tool Web site

Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product.

To determine the required license capacity for the zSeries IPLA program you selected, refer to the Terms and conditions section.

IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations

IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to, an enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is the customer's responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.

Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

For each IBM eServer® zSeries® IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the "required license capacity." Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

  • The zSeries IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable terms
  • Whether your current mainframes are full-capacity or sub-capacity

Ordering example: The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example.

If your required license capacity is 1,500 MSUs for your selected zSeries IPLA product, the applicable Value Units would be:

Translation from MSUs to Value Units

            MSUs * Value Units/MSU = Value Units

Base 3 * 1.00 = 3.00
Tier A 42 * .45 = 18.90
Tier B 130 * .36 = 46.80
Tier C 140 * .27 = 37.80
Tier D 1,185 * .20 = 237.00

Total 1,500 343.50

When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer.

Subscription and Support

To receive voice technical support via telephone during normal business hours and future releases and versions at no additional charge, Subscription and Support must be ordered. The capacity of Subscription and Support (Value Units) must be the same as the capacity ordered for the product licenses.

To order, specify the Subscription and Support program number (PID) referenced previously and the appropriate license or charge option.

IBM is also providing Subscription and Support for these products via a separately purchased offering under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Support (IAAS). This offering:

  • Includes and extends the support services provided in the base support to include technical support via telephone during normal business hours.
  • Entitles customers to future releases and versions at no additional charge. Note that the customer is not entitled to new products.

When Subscription and Support is ordered, the charges will renew automatically annually unless cancelled by the customer.

Single version charging: To elect single version charging, the customer must notify and identify to IBM the prior program and replacement program and the machine the programs are operating on.

Customized Offerings

Product media is shipped only via Customized Offerings (for example, CBPDO, ServerPac, SystemPac®). Non-customized items (CDs, diskettes, source media, media kits) will continue to be shipped via the stand-alone product.

Program support: Enhanced support, called Subscription and Support, includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours) as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect. The customer will be notified of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice.

Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, return it within 30 days from the invoice date to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it for a refund. For clarification, note that for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply because these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by the customer.

Sub-capacity terms and conditions

For each zSeries IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the "required license capacity." Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

  • The zSeries IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable terms
  • Whether your current mainframes are full-capacity or sub-capacity

For more information on the Value Unit Exhibit for the zSeries IPLA program you selected, refer to the Ordering information section.

Full-capacity mainframes: In cases where full-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply:

Execution-based, z/OS-based, full-machine-based: The required capacity of a zSeries IPLA program with these terms equals the MSU rated capacity of the machines where the zSeries IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU rated capacities, refer to The System/370™, System/390®, and zSeries Machine Exhibit (Z125-3901) or visit the Mainframes section of the zSeries Exhibits Web site

Reference-based: The required license capacity of a zSeries IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Sub-capacity mainframes: In cases where sub-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply:

Execution-based: The required capacity of a zSeries IPLA sub-capacity program with these terms equals the capacity of the LPARs where the zSeries IPLA program executes.

z/OS-based: The required license capacity of a zSeries IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of z/OS (and z/OS.e) on the machines where the zSeries IPLA program executes.

Reference-based: The required license capacity of a zSeries IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Full machine-based: The required license capacity of a zSeries IPLA program with full machine-based terms equals the MSU rated capacity of the machines where the zSeries IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU rated capacities, refer to The System/370, System/390, and zSeries Machine Exhibit (Z125-3901) or visit the Mainframes section of the zSeries Exhibits Web site

For more information on sub-capacity zSeries IPLA terms and conditions, refer to Software Announcement 204-184 , dated August 10, 2004.

Additional information for products with reference-based terms: zSeries IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms adds value to the parent program across the environment, regardless of where in environment the zSeries IPLA program executes.

An environment is defined as either a single/stand-alone machine or a qualified Parallel Sysplex®. Customers may have one or more different environments across their enterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each zSeries IPLA program with referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.

When a zSeries IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used in a qualified Parallel Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of the zSeries IPLA program must equal the license capacity of the parent program across the Parallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one:

  • That meets the criteria defined in Hardware Announcement 198-001 , dated January 13, 1998
  • Where MLC pricing is aggregated across the Sysplex

Sub-capacity eligibility: To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select zSeries IPLA programs, you must first implement and comply with all terms of either sub-capacity Workload License Charges (WLC) or sub-capacity Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC). To implement sub-capacity WLC or EWLC, a machine must be zSeries (or equivalent). On that machine:

  • All instances of the OS/390 operating system must be migrated to the z/OS (or z/OS.e) operating systems
  • Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued
  • All instances of the z/OS operating (or z/OS.e) systems must be running in z/Architecture™ (64-bit) mode

For that machine, you must create and submit a Sub-Capacity Report to IBM each month. Sub-Capacity Reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool (SCRT). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, visit the zSeries Software Pricing Web site

You must comply with all of the terms of the WLC or EWLC offering, whichever is applicable:

  • The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity WLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement — Attachment for zSeries Workload License Charges (Z125-6516).
  • The complete terms and conditions for sub-capacity EWLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement — Attachment for z800 and z890 Software License Charges (Z125-6587).

Additionally, you must sign and comply with the terms and conditions specified in the amendment to the IPLA contract — "Amendment for zSeries Platform Programs Sub-Capacity Pricing (Z125-6929-02, or higher)." Once the amendment is signed, the terms in the amendment replace any and all previous zSeries IPLA sub-capacity terms and conditions.

Sub-capacity utilization determination

Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the utilization of a sub-capacity eligible reference product and machine.

On/Off Capacity on Demand

To be eligible for On/Off Capacity on Demand pricing, customers must be enabled for temporary capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract — Z125-6611, Attachment for Customer Initiated Upgrade and IBM eServer On/Off Capacity on Demand — Software — must be signed prior to use.
