Overview
IBM iSeries enhances the
Software Maintenance (SWMA) options for iSeries i5 systems by offering tiered per-processor pricing.
Other selected systems in the iSeries family will continue to offer the existing SWMA tiered
per-server pricing.
The per-processor SWMA offerings (5733-SPP, 5733-SPE, and 5733-SP3) are applicable to the iSeries i5 models 520, 550, 570, and 595 systems and the pSeries® p5 models 570, 590, and 595. SWMA on these models will be priced per processor of i5/OS licenses. This will provide more granular pricing for on demand hardware and mixed operating system workloads. The existing per-server SWMA for OS/400®, Selected Products (5733-UX1 and 5733-UX3) continues to be offered for all other iSeries system models.
SWMA offers:
- Software upgrade entitlement within the coverage period for eligible OS/400, i5/OS operating system software and selected licensed programs
- Access to IBM remote technical software support resources
- Per-processor pricing
- Entitlement beginning on your new i5/OS license entitlements installation date
- Initial coverage period for i5/OS license entitlements is one year, three-year coverage option is also available
- Transition period for iSeries i5 models allows choice of per-processor or per-server SWMA offering through September 30, 2005

Description
Software Maintenance
A complete iSeries system solution includes hardware and software and a set of basic services. All of these elements enable you to take full advantage of your system purchase. SWMA customers can enjoy a full range of benefits that include software upgrade entitlement and voice support, where available, and electronic support.
- Software Maintenance (SWMA) combines upgrade entitlement (formerly Software Subscription) and software technical support (formerly Support Line)
- SWMA provides entitlement to currently available software upgrades of eligible products.
- SWMA provides access to software technical support resources for currently supported releases.
- iSeries Power 5 systems purchases includes one-year of SWMA for OS/400, i5/OS, and selected products coverage with a charge for each base i5/OS license. A three year option is also available.
- One-year of SWMA is included for each i5/OS license when buying additional i5/OS processor entitlements. A three-year coverage option is also available.
- SWMA is not transferable outside of the customer enterprise or country.
- Existing contracts (Software Subscription, SupportLine, SWMA, and ServiceSuite) will be honored through their expiration date. You will then have the latest offering available to you should you wish to renew your coverage.
- "Maintenance After License" is an additional fee added to a SWMA order when you wish to restart SWMA coverage after it has lapsed.
For clarification or special requests related to the content or pricing of SWMA, contact your IBM representative.
IBM i5/OS additional processor license, per-processor maintenance (5733-SSA)
This program is for optional i5/OS additional license entitlements. Customers who are under the per-processor i5/OS SWMA offering and want to acquire additional processor license entitlements of i5/OS can order them under a new program 5722-SSA. Orders for this program are for processor license entitlements plus the first year of SWMA coverage. This program is used only for ordering and billing purposes. A corresponding order for 5722-SS1 will be created by eConfig to create an electronic POE, a new SW license Key, and any media delivery that may be requested. Orders for 5722-SSA do not represent a different level of operating system code than orders for 5722-SS1.
Software upgrades
SWMA provides entitlement to a single upgrade per i5/OS Version, Release, Modification (VRM) for all eligible products (see list of eligible products) you have licensed on your iSeries system.
An upgrade consists of a new release, version, or a replacement program as determined by IBM.
IBM does not guarantee that a new release, version or replacement product will be announced.
Software upgrades will not be shipped to you automatically. You must order updates you are entitled to receive through normal channels.
The upgrades will be shipped to you at no additional charge. Additional licenses, additional users for user-based programs, optional features, and software processor upgrades are chargeable and not included in entitled upgrades.
Remote Technical Software Support
Technical support is included as an integral part of Software Maintenance for OS/400, i5/OS, and selected products. It can supplement your support staff with telephone support and/or electronic support, where available, for routine installation, usage (how-to) questions, and code-related problems. This support applies to IBM SWMA for OS/400, i5/OS and selected products offering entitled software only.
Technical support benefits:
- Convenient telephone and electronic access (where available) to the skilled iSeries software support teams
-
Easy access to iSeries electronic tools (where available) that help you take full advantage of your
Software Maintenance offering.
For example:
- Problem reporting report problems and ask technical questions about i5/OS software
- Registered Software Knowledge Base hints, tips, frequently asked questions, and resolution to problems known as Problem Management Report (PMR) Summaries
- Internet PTF Downloads (IPTF) select, order, and download fixes
- Fix Maintenance Advisor advice on a preventive maintenance strategy based on your iSeries environment and applications
- File Transfer Protocol (FTP) support for PTF orders
- Check out the tools at
- Unlimited calls to IBM technical software support centers during normal business hours for usage and code-related problems by any number of authorized technical staff
- 24 x 7 coverage for mission-critical (Severity 1) problems
- A 24x7 all severity support option is available for an additional fee
- Two-hour response time objective
- Access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Renewal
- At the end of your SWMA coverage period, you can renew according to the terms and conditions of the then-current SWMA offerings.
- It is your responsibility to ensure that the renewal orders arrive at IBM in time to assure uninterrupted service. It is recommended that orders be sent to IBM no later than 30 days prior to expiration.
- Orders for renewal of SWMA may be placed through your IBM Business Partner or directly through IBM
- If you choose not to renew Software Maintenance, or the renewal is not received by IBM prior to the day before the expiration date, Software Maintenance After License must be purchased to reinstate Software Maintenance.
SWMA for OS/400, i5/OS and Selected Products renewals are acquired through an IBM Global Services contract. With the fulfillment of SWMA acquisitions and renewals through the IBM Global Services channel, you have:
- Multiple-year and unique Software Maintenance coverage periods beyond the initially purchased coverage
- A single contract (one anniversary date) to cover multiple machines
- Flexible payment terms are available
- A stand-alone SWMA coverage option is available through IBM Global Services (for example, Hardware Maintenance is no longer a prerequisite)
- The IBM Global Services contract has been enhanced to handle the application of Maintenance After License fees as they apply to the new SWMA offering acquisition.
SWMA terms
SWMA provides entitlement to a single upgrade per i5/OS Version, Release, Modification (VRM) for all eligible products (see list of eligible products) you have licensed on your iSeries system and includes entitlement to IBM's software technical support. Software Maintenance coupled with Hardware Maintenance, offers you a complete solution with your new iSeries system.
It may be necessary to order and install a hardware upgrade to support a new i5/OS versions/release or other licensed program.
Tier changes: Hardware upgrades or software maintenance transfers performed during the software maintenance coverage period that result in SWMA coverage for a machine in a higher software tier will result in SWMA group-to-group charges. These charges are the difference between the new, higher group, and the old, lower group prices and are prorated to reflect the time remaining on the contract term. The price adjustment is effective upon hardware upgrade installation or the effective date of transfer. Customer is responsible to provide the number of months remaining on his existing contracts when determining group to group charges. Customers will not receive a refund or credit if the hardware upgrade or transfer results in a lower software tier.
Used hardware: Customers purchasing a used AS/400®, iSeries, or eServer® i5 system, will not be subject to the Maintenance After License fee if
- The machine has the most current version/release of OS/400 or i5/OS installed, and
- The customer orders SWMA within 30 days of purchasing this used machine
In cases where both of these requirements are not met, the Maintenance After License fee must be paid before acquiring SWMA for a used machine.
Per-processor terms: The charge for Software Maintenance for OS/400, i5/OS, and Selected Products offerings is based on the number of i5/OS processor license/entitlements. The per-processor price varies based on the software tier of the system. The per-processor pricing applies to the iSeries i5 systems, other iSeries and AS/400 systems remain on the per-system SWMA offering.
Transferability: SWMA for OS/400, i5/OS and Selected Products can be transferred from one machine to another at the same or more recent VRM of OS/400 or i5/OS within a customer's enterprise and country during the SWMA coverage period. Additional charges may apply if more processors are covered or if they are in a different software tier. SWMA is not transferable outside of the customer enterprise or country.
Partial machine coverage: IBM encourages customers to renew their SWMA coverage to ensure access to the latest version/releases and technical support. However, under the per-processor SWMA offering a customer may have a machine which has some i5/OS entitlements which are covered with SWMA and others that are not covered. A customer can request technical support and version/release upgrades only on processors which are covered with a current SWMA contract. If a customer has partial machine coverage and receives a SWMA version/release upgrade, then the upgraded version/release must be installed in a separate partition which is no larger than the processor quantity covered by SWMA. Other processors on the machine which are licensed to i5/OS and are not covered by SWMA must be in a separate partition and are not entitled to use the version or release upgrade or to use technical support.
Additional SWMA terms
- Orders for an i5 model 520, 550, 570, or 595 system created on or after July 12, 2005, has the option to follow the per-processor SWMA offering structure.
- Orders for existing i5 model 520, 550, 570 and 595 systems and i5/OS orders on p5 model 570, 590, and 595 systems entered between July 12, 2005, and September 30, 2005, will default to the per-processor offering structure but this can be changed within the configurator to the per-server SWMA offering. After September 30, 2005, all model i5 models 520, 550, 570, and 595 hardware orders and i5/OS orders on p5 570, 590 and 595 will be under the per-processor SWMA offering.
- The per-processor SWMA for OS/400, i5/OS and Selected Products offerings also applies to p5 hardware running i5/OS.
- iSeries systems with any Software Subscription (SWS) or a previous SWMA offering are not required to migrate until renewal. Customers renewing SWMA for all i5 model 520, 550, 570 and 595 systems and i5/OS licenses on p5 models 570, 590 and 595 from July 12, 2005, to September 30, 2005, can choose either the per-server SWMA option or the per-processor SWMA option. All renewals for these machines after September 30, 2005, will be for the per-processor SWMA offering. Also, to aid in transition to the per-processor SWMA offering, model 595 renewals into the per-processor offering from July 12, 2005, to December 31, 2005, will have charges waived for processor quantities above sixteen processors. SWMA charges for the first sixteen processor apply as usual, but charges for i5/OS per-processor SWMA for greater than sixteen processors are waived. This transition offering only applies to renewals for one-year per-processor SWMA offering.
- Hardware upgrades into an IBM eServer i5 model 520, 550, 570, or 595 system from any other iSeries model will remain covered by existing SWMA coverage until the expiration date. If an iSeries model 520, 550, 570 or 595 is covered under the per-system pricing SWMA offering, additional i5/OS processor licenses are available under 5722-SS1 without an included SWMA coverage charge. All i5/OS additional entitlements under the per-processor pricing are acquired using 5722-SSA which includes one year of SWMA coverage.
- Maintenance After License (MAL) features per-processor pricing have been added. Customers who lapse in their SWMA coverage on model 520, 550, 570 and 595 i5 and p5 systems are subject to the per-processor MAL charge when reacquiring SWMA.
- All iSeries or AS/400 systems other than eServer i5 models 520, 550, 570 or 595 will remain on the per-system priced SWMA for all new system sales and renewals. The per-processor pricing offering does not apply to these systems.
-
Customer who have SWMA coverage under the per-processor priced offering will not receive refunds,
credits, or special discounting if
- The SWMA is moved to a machine in a lower tier.
- The use of i5/OS is lowered.
- The system is upgraded to another system with fewer i5/OS entitlements.
- The system is replaced by another system running i5/OS.
Customers who desire maximum flexibility in their SWMA and services contracting should renew their i5/OS SWMA via the IBM Global Services channel.
- Customers on IBM eServer i5 model 520, 550, 570, or 595 systems and have SWMA coverage under the per system offering can acquire additional i5/OS processor license entitlements which do not include the first year of SWMA under the 5722-SS1 program. Customers of these systems who have SWMA coverage under the per-processor offering can acquire additional i5/OS processor license entitlements including the first year of SWMA under the 5722-SSA program.
- All new iSeries hardware includes a minimum of one-year SWMA for the base i5/OS license entitlements included with the systems. If a customer chooses to transfer SWMA coverage to a new system this does not remove the need to have the initial coverage period of SWMA on new hardware orders. Any order for new hardware without SWMA will not be accepted.

Charge metric: SWMA for OS/400, i5/OS and Selected Products renewals are acquired through an IBM Global Services contract. With the fulfillment of SWMA renewals through the IBM Global Services channel, you have:
- Multiple-year and unique Software Maintenance coverage periods beyond the initially purchased coverage period
- A single contract (one anniversary date) to cover multiple machines
- Flexible payment terms
- A stand-alone SWMA coverage option is available through IBM Global Services (for example, Hardware Maintenance is no longer a prerequisite)
- The IBM Global Services contract has been enhanced to handle the application of Maintenance After License fees as they apply to SWMA acquisitions.
All iSeries Power 5 systems include a minimum coverage of one-year SWMA for each i5/OS processor license/entitlement. A three coverage option is also available.
After the initial SWMA for OS/400, i5/OS, and selected products coverage period you must renew SWMA to avoid losing your entitlement to software upgrades and your access to IBM's remote technical software support resources. Failure to maintain uninterrupted coverage will result in the application of a Maintenance After License fee at the time you restore your SWMA coverage.
SWMA for OS/400, i5/OS and Selected Products renewals are acquired through an IBM Global Services contract.

IBM Electronic Services
IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support on the IBM eServer®. You should benefit from greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate, but complementary, elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent.
IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The IBM Electronic Service Agent is a no-additional-charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems. To take full advantage of IBM Electronic Services on an IBM eServer i5 running AIX® 5L 5.3, clients should install Service Agent under AIX 5L 5.3 to assist in reporting AIX operating system related problems.

Variable charges: The applicable processor-based one-time charge will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed, the charge of the next higher group listed applies. For movement to a machine in a higher group, an upgrade charge equal to the difference in the then-current charges between the two groups will apply. For movement to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of charges paid.
