| Description |
CICS TG V6 and CICS UC V6 have moved to V6.0.1 level. Principally a service refresh, this level also delivers several important new capabilities.
The CICS TG adds Linux on POWER to its existing platform support. It also moves its level of AIX support up to AIX V5.3. In addition, it now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4. This means that the platforms supported by CICS TG are now:
- AIX V5.1, AIX V5.2, or AIX V5.3
- Linux on zSeries® : SLES 8 or RHEL 3, both with 31-bit kernel; SLES 9 or RHEL 4, both with 64-bit kernel
- Linux on Intel : SLES 8, SLES 9, RHEL 3, or RHEL 4, all with 32-bit kernel
- Linux on POWER: SLES 9, RHEL 3, or RHEL 4, all with 64-bit kernel
- Solaris V8 or Solaris V9
- HP-UX11i
- Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows 2003
The CICS UC adds both Linux on POWER and AIX to its existing platform support. It also now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4. This means that the platforms supported by CICS UC are now:
- AIX V5.1, AIX V5.2, or AIX V5.3
- Linux on zSeries: SLES 8 or RHEL 3, both with 31-bit kernel; SLES 9 or RHEL 4, both with 64-bit kernel
- Linux on Intel: SUSE Linux Desktop, NLD 9, SLES 9, RHEL 3, or RHEL 4, all with 32-bit kernel
- Linux on POWER: SLES 9, RHEL 3, or RHEL 4, all with 64-bit kernel
- Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP
This service release can also deliver significant runtime performance enhancements for request processing. The enhancement is provided in the interface to the Client daemon and is applicable in all circumstances. It is effective immediately on installation of the CICS TG or CICS UC, with no manual intervention.

| Product positioning |
CICS TG is a market-leading connector that is production proven over many years to be a high performing, secure, scalable and tightly integrated method of e-business access to CICS. It benefits from ease of installation and flexible configuration that requires minimal changes to CICS and usually no changes to existing CICS applications. It provides a range of networking options and provides a choice of Java and non-Java clients.
CICS TG for Multiplatforms V6.0 provides an industry-leading implementation of the JCA at the 1.5 specification level. ECI and EPI adapters are provided, enabling both COMMAREA and 3270 datastream-based CICS applications to interoperate effectively with WebSphere Application Server V6.
CICS UC V6.0 function is incorporated within CICS TG V6.0. In addition, licenses for CICS UC as a
separate product can be ordered for the Windows, AIX, and Linux operating environments. CICS UC is
designed for CICS Transaction Server and TXSeries CICS customers who need a simple and low-cost
method of integrating their CICS systems with single-user applications running in a single-user
environment. The CICS UC is not licensed for multiple-user environments. Customers intending to
use the CICS UC function to allow access to their CICS solutions for multiple end users must use the
CICS TG.
