Description

Image

IBM WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS, V5.1 is an enterprise portal solution with the complete portal services necessary to deliver a single point of personalized interaction to applications, content, business processes, and people for a unified user experience. Designed specifically for the z/OS platform, Portal Enable for z/OS, V5.1 exploits the IBM eServer zSeries® platform's availability, reliability, and serviceability, critical for running an on demand business. WebSphere Portal rationalizes and simplifies IT infrastructure by streamlining business processes while improving access to applications, content, and people by leveraging a complete set of portal platform services: framework services, integration services, content services, and collaboration services.

Portal Framework Services allow you to simplify the development, deployment, and management of highly dynamic, personalized portal applications. WebSphere Portal includes many framework services, but the following two are featured:

  1. Virtual portals service allows customers to create multiple portal sites on one instance of WebSphere Portal. Each site has its own URL, look and feel, pages, users and groups, and search index. All sites share the same WebSphere Application Server (WAS) instance, installed portlets, and document libraries. With virtual portal, companies can centrally manage many different portals targeted to different constituencies in or outside of their organization, saving money on portal management, yet offering variety and customization to users.
  2. Brokered cooperation service, also called "click-to-action," allows independently developed portlets to exchange information. The objective of the click-to-action portlets is to increase the productivity of portal users working with multiple portlets by enabling them to easily send information from one portlet to another. For example, users can click on information that is displayed in one portlet and transfer that information to another portlet to generate a query and update the display.

Integration Services allow you to leverage existing investments in systems by simplifying access, integration, and orchestration of content, applications, and data into the portal. WebSphere Portal includes many integration services, but the following three are featured:

  1. Business process integration service of WebSphere Portal includes a process choreographer for building work-flow processes that can be integrated into a person's portal experience. Portal's navigation paradigm is now not only role-based, but also includes activities in progress that are available to users through the "My Task" portlet. By combining people and applications at a process level, transactions and the decisions that drive them can be executed faster.
  2. WebSphere Portal Application Integrator (WPAI) service is a business tool that provides a fast way to build new portlets that access various kinds of Enterprise Application systems, including SAP, PeopleSoft, Siebel, and Domino™ applications. It also works for relational databases, such as DB2®, Oracle, Informix™, SQL Server, and others. Simply put, each tool is a portlet that builds new portlets for a specific back-end system using a set of predefined interaction models. Operating the builder tool is simple and easy for administrators or business users so that a portal user can quickly interact with critical business processes.
  3. Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) and JSR 168 standard support in WebSphere Portal are proof points to IBM's leadership and strategy to support open standards. With WSRP, portal administrators can select from a rich choice of remote content and applications, integrating it into their portal with just a few mouse clicks with no programming effort. By virtue of the common, well-defined WSRP interfaces, all Web services that implement WSRP plug into WSRP-compliant portals without requiring any service-specific adapters. A single, service-independent adapter on the portal side is sufficient to integrate any WSRP services. Now, no custom programming effort using a variety of different interfaces and protocols is required. Portal administrators no longer have to write interface code to adapt the WSRP services for their portal.

Portal Content Services deliver prebuilt productivity components and services that allow users to create, manage, and search content, documents, and Web assets. WebSphere Portal for z/OS, V5.1 includes many content services, but the following three are featured:

  1. Portal document manager (PDM) has been enhanced so that users can easily share, view, and organize files of all types ranging from documents to spreadsheets within the portal community. It now offers category subscription services, simple approval processes for file contribution, versioning so that users can track the evolution of a piece of content, and access control for managing viewing privileges of different content items.
  2. WebSphere Portal now includes IBM Workplace Web Content Manager with a restricted license for portal use. By leveraging content in back-end systems, Workplace Web Content Management reduces development and implementation time, placing content creation and management firmly in the hands of content experts for "author once, publish everywhere" control. The end result is that content on your portal is more accurate and updated frequently.
  3. Content management repository service is provided via the inclusion of DB2 Content Manager runtime. This service can manage all forms of content (Web, e-mail, documents, digitized paper documents, images, audio, video, and text messages) access from your portal consistently. A content management repository adds functionality over a database alone by providing a portal interface to not just store data, but to provide the structure to quickly access and associate that data with the business processes driving your business.

Collaboration Services provide a set of ready-to-use collaborative portlets and services that allow portal users to find, connect, and work with people inside and outside of the organization. WebSphere Portal includes portlets to access these services.

What's new in WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS, V5.1

Enhanced installation process: WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS, V5.1 now includes an improved z/OS installation process based on the use of system modification program extended (SMPE) and interactive system productivity facility (ISPF) dialogs. These installation procedures are closely aligned with those used by the WAS and WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation. The new installation support results in a flexible and extensible infrastructure whereby installations may quickly deploy many Portal Server instances across a common WebSphere and z/OS infrastructure using z/OS tools, techniques, and procedures. Maintenance procedures have also been closely aligned with the WAS to allow for easier and faster maintenance upgrades.

Virtual portals: WebSphere Portal allows customers to create multiple portal sites on one instance of WebSphere Portal. Each site has its own URL, look and feel, pages, users and groups, and search index. All sites share the same WAS instance, installed portlets, and document libraries. With virtual portal, companies can centrally manage many different portals targeted to different constituencies in or outside of their organization, saving money on portal management, yet offering variety and customization to users. Each virtual portal can also be administered discretely — with assignable administrator roles.

Business process integration: WebSphere Portal includes a process choreographer for building work-flow processes that can be integrated into a person's portal experience. Portal's navigation paradigm is now not only role-based, but also includes activities in progress that are available to users through the "My Task" portlet. By combining people and applications at a process level, transactions and the decisions that drive them can be executed faster.

Robust content management: DB2 Content Manager runtime is included to manage all forms of content (Web, e-mail, documents, digitized paper documents, images, audio, video, and text messages) consistently. A content management repository adds functionality over a database alone by providing the interface to not just store data, but to provide the structure to quickly access and associate that data with the business processes that leverage it. In addition, PDM has been enhanced with an improved user interface, round-trip editing, and JSR 170 support. Finally, Workplace Web Content Management is now fully integrated with Portal, providing a portlet-based user interface, full integration with PDM, and integrated personalization capabilities.

Search enhancements: WebSphere Portal makes search easier and faster by including a search bar within the default themes. This provides a search center that enables users to search multiple repositories from one location, and allowing the portal search engine to be remotely invoked so that indexing and search capabilities can be run on a separate server.

Security enhancements: WebSphere Portal now supports Java™ 2 platform, standard edition (J2SE) security which allows administrators to ensure that semi-trusted portlets installed on the system have limited access to system resources (for example, file or network access). In addition, WebSphere Portal includes more flexible cache strategies that can improve the system performance for accessing secured resources. Finally, users created through rough portal user management are now automatically registered within the IBM Tivoli® Access Manager for e-business user registry, eliminating the need for asynchronous user synchronization.

Accessibility by people with disabilities

With the exception of the WebSphere Portal productivity components, WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS, V5.1 has the following accessibility characteristics:

  • Features for vision impaired users:
    • Supports interfaces commonly used by screen readers (Windows™ only)
    • Can be operated using only the keyboard
    • Allows the user to request more time to complete timed responses

Value Unit-based pricing

Value Unit pricing for eligible zSeries IPLA programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each zSeries IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description.

Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for customers. For each zSeries IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the "required license capacity". Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three digit code.

Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offers additional price benefits for customers. The quantity of each zSeries IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as "entitled license capacity". If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for a zSeries IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired.

For each zSeries IPLA program with Value Unit Pricing, you should:

  • Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs
  • Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise
  • Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit, and
  • Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost.

To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to VUs or vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. For additional information or to obtain a copy of the Value Unit Converter Tool, visit the Value Unit Converter Tool Web site

Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product.

To determine the required license capacity for the zSeries IPLA program you selected, refer to the Terms and conditions section.

IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations

IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is the customer's responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.

Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

Integration with zSeries servers

When running z/OS V1.6, the zSeries 990 and zSeries 890 servers support a new type of processor called the zSeries Application Assist Processor (zAAP).

The zAAP is an attractively priced specialized processing unit that provides a strategic and highly economical z/OS Java execution environment for customers seeking to leverage the powerful integration advantages and traditional Qualities of Service of the zSeries platform. For more information, refer to Software Announcement 104-117 , dated April 7, 2004, and Software Announcement 104-118 , dated April 7, 2004.

zAAPs may enable you to:

  • Simplify and reduce server infrastructures by integrating on demand Java Web applications with mission-critical data for high performance, reliability, availability, and security
  • Maximize the value of your zSeries investment through increased system productivity by reducing the demands and capacity requirements on general-purpose processors, which may then be available for reallocation to other zSeries workloads
  • Lower the overall cost of computing for WebSphere Portal and other Java technology-based applications through hardware, software and maintenance savings.

When configured with general-purpose processors within logical partitions running z/OS, zAAPs may help increase general-purpose processor productivity and may contribute to lowering the overall cost of computing for z/OS Java technology-based applications. zAAPs are designed to operate asynchronously with the general-purpose processors to execute Java programming under control of the IBM Java Virtual Machine (JVM). This can help reduce the demands and capacity requirements on general-purpose processors which may then be available for reallocation to other zSeries workloads.

The IBM JVM processing cycles can be executed on the configured zAAPs with no anticipated modifications to one or more Java applications. Execution of the JVM processing cycles on a zAAP is a function of the Software Developer's Kit (SDK) 1.4.1 for zSeries, z/OS 1.6, and the Processor Resource/Systems Manager™ (PR/SM™).

The amount of general-purpose processor savings will vary based on the amount of Java application code executed by zAAPs. This is dependent upon the amount of Java cycles used by the one or more relevant applications and on the zAAP execution mode selected by the customer.

Execution of the Java applications on zAAPs, within the same z/OS SMP LPAR as their associated database subsystems, can also help simplify the server infrastructures and improve operational efficiencies. For example, use of zAAPs could reduce the number of TCP/IP programming stacks, firewalls, and physical interconnections (and their associated processing) that might otherwise be required when the application servers and their database servers are deployed on separate physical server platforms.

IBM does not impose software charges on zAAP capacity. Additional IBM software charges will apply when additional general-purpose CP capacity is used.

Customers are encouraged to contact their specific independent software vendors directly to determine if their charges will be affected.

Subscription and Support

To receive voice technical support via telephone during normal business hours and future releases and versions at no additional charge, Subscription and Support must be ordered. The capacity of Subscription and Support (Value Units) must be the same as the capacity ordered for the product licenses.

To order, specify the Subscription and Support program number (PID) referenced above and the appropriate license or charge option.

IBM is also providing Subscription and Support for these products via a separately purchased offering under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Support (IAAS). This offering:

  • Includes and extends the support services provided in the base support to include technical support via telephone during normal business hours.
  • Entitles customers to future releases and versions at no additional charge. Note that the customer is not entitled to new products.

When Subscription and Support is ordered, the charges will renew automatically annually unless cancelled by the customer.

Single version charging: To elect single version charging, the customer must notify and identify to IBM the prior program and replacement program and the machine the programs are operating on.

Customized Offerings

Product media is shipped only via Customized Offerings (for example, CBPDO, ServerPac, SystemPac). Non-customized items (CDs, diskettes, source media, media kits) will continue to be shipped via the stand-alone product.

Terms and conditions

Licensing: IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA). Proofs of Entitlement (PoE) are required for all authorized use.

These products are licensed under the IBM IPLA, and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Support, and the Addendum for Support (Z125-6443) which provides for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours) as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect. S/390® and zSeries IBM Operational Support Services — SoftwareXcel is an option for those customers who desire added services.

Limited warranty applies: Yes

Warranty: This program has warranty for a minimum of one year from acquisition from IBM or authorized IBM Business Partner. The warranty provided to the customer, for at least one year from acquisition, is access to databases (read Web sites) for program information and FAQs, including any known fixes to defects, which the customer can download or obtain otherwise and install at leisure.

Program support: Enhanced Support, called Subscription and Support, includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours) as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect. The customer will be notified of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice.

Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a refund. This applies only to your first acquisition of the program.

Volume orders (IVO): No

Passport Advantage® applies: No

Portal Enable for z/OS, V5.1 is accompanied by a full copy of the WebSphere Portal Enable for Multiplatforms, with limited usage rights. The Portal Enable for z/OS license entitles you to use Portal Enable for Multiplatforms in order to run non-z/OS components that belong to a WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS installation, and to develop portlets for the Portal for z/OS system on a non-z/OS platform. License terms do not allow you to use Portal Enable for Multiplatforms to set up a separate Portal on another platform (not a IBM eServer zSeries) accessed directly by multiple end users.

If you wish to set up a Portal on another platform other than zSeries for access by multiple end users, you must purchase one or more licenses of WebSphere Portal Enable for Multiplatforms.

If you purchase a Service and Support agreement for WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS, you will also be entitled to register for support for the WebSphere Portal Enable for Multiplatforms component that is included in the WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS, V5.1 package (refer to your IBM sales representative or IBM Business Partner for details). However, WebSphere Portal Enable for Multiplatforms support is limited to the level of support provided to the WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS, V5.1 program and does not include "how to" support nor does it include "subscription" to separately purchasable or subsequent versions of WebSphere Portal Enable for Multiplatforms unless provided via a new release of the WebSphere Portal Enable for z/OS program.

If you have purchased a separate Support Line contract, you will be entitled to "how to" support for the program and all components.

Software Maintenance applies: No

Sub-capacity terms and conditions

For each zSeries IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the "required license capacity". Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

  • The zSeries IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable Terms
  • Whether your current mainframes are full-capacity or sub-capacity

For more information on the Value Unit Exhibit for the zSeries IPLA program you selected, refer to the Ordering information section.

                      for z/OS, V5.1

Full-Capacity Mainframes

In cases where full-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply:

Execution-Based, z/OS-Based, Full-Machine-Based: The required capacity of a zSeries IPLA program with these terms equals the MSU rated capacity of the machine(s) where the zSeries IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU rated capacities, refer to "The System/370™, System/390®, and zSeries Machine Exhibit (Z125-3901)" or visit the "Mainframes" section of the zSeries Exhibits Web site

Sub-Capacity Mainframes

In cases where sub-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply:

Execution-Based: The required capacity of a zSeries IPLA sub-capacity program with these terms equals the capacity of the LPARs where the zSeries IPLA program executes.

z/OS-Based: The required license capacity of a zSeries IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of z/OS (and z/OS.e) on the machines where the zSeries IPLA program executes.

Full Machine-Based: The required license capacity of a zSeries IPLA program with full machine-based terms equals the MSU rated capacity of the machines where the zSeries IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU rated capacities, refer to "The System/370, System/390, and zSeries Machine Exhibit (Z125-3901)" or visit the "Mainframes" section of the zSeries Exhibits Web site

For more information on sub-capacity zSeries IPLA terms and conditions, refer to Software Announcement 204-184 , dated August 10, 2004.

Additional Information for Products with Reference-Based Terms zSeries IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms adds value to the parent program across the environment, regardless of where in environment the zSeries IPLA program executes.

An environment is defined as either a single/stand-alone machine or a qualified Parallel Sysplex®. Customers may have one or more different environments across their enterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each zSeries IPLA program with referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.

When a zSeries IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used in a qualified Parallel Sysplex environment the required license capacity of the zSeries IPLA program must equal with the license capacity of the parent program across the Parallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one

  1. That meets the criteria defined in Hardware Announcement 198-001 , dated January 13, 1998
  2. Where MLC pricing is aggregated across the Sysplex

Sub-capacity eligibility

To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select zSeries IPLA programs, you must first implement and comply with all terms of either sub-capacity Workload License Charges (WLC) or sub-capacity Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC). To implement sub-capacity WLC or EWLC, a machine must be zSeries (or equivalent). On that machine:

  • All instances of the OS/390 operating system must be migrated to the z/OS (or z/OS.e) operating systems
  • Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued
  • All instances of the z/OS operating (or z/OS.e) systems must be running in z/Architecture™ (64-bit) mode

For that machine, you must create and submit a Sub-Capacity Report to IBM each month. Sub-Capacity Reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool (SCRT). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, visit the zSeries Software Pricing Web site

You must comply with all of the terms of the WLC or EWLC offering, whichever is applicable:

  • The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity WLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement — Attachment for zSeries Workload License Charges (Z125-6516).
  • The complete terms and conditions for sub-capacity EWLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement — Attachment for z800 and z890 Software License Charges (Z125-6587).

Additionally, you must sign and comply with the terms and conditions specified in the amendment to the IPLA contract — "Amendment for zSeries Platform Programs Sub-Capacity Pricing (Z125-6929-02 or higher)". Once the amendment is signed, the terms in the amendment replace any and all previous zSeries IPLA sub-capacity terms and conditions.

Sub-capacity utilization determination

Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the product's own utilization as reported to IBM in accordance with the requirements for reporting sub-capacity utilization for products.

On/Off Capacity on Demand

To be eligible for On/Off Capacity on Demand pricing, customers must be enabled for temporary capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract — Z125-6611, Attachment for Customer Initiated Upgrade and IBM eServer On/Off Capacity on Demand — Software — must be signed prior to use.

IBM Electronic Services

IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support on the IBM eServer. You should benefit from greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate, but complementary, elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent™.

IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The IBM Electronic Service Agent is a no-additional-charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
