The Service Flow Modeler component of IBM WebSphere Developer for zSeries V6.0 is being introduced
as a "Technology Preview." The tooling component is provided "as is" for evaluation purposes only,
and is not warranted by IBM. To obtain a warranted version of the tooling component, you must
obtain a later release of WebSphere Developer for zSeries which includes this code. If a question
or problem is encountered with the use of the nonwarranted tooling component, and you want to
provide feedback to IBM, you must use the newsgroup forum located at
news://news.software.ibm.com/ibm.software. websphere.studio.enterprise-developer
When creating these items on the newsgroup, use a subject line of "Service Flow Modeler."
Service Flow Modeler is a multifunctional tool supporting modern application architectures and the
transformation and reuse of existing application processes. It is designed to help leverage your
investment, and the QOS, of existing enterprise information systems and the CICS Runtime (EIS) and
Host Access Transformation Services, while at the same time enabling the move towards service
oriented architecture (SOA). You can use Service Flow Modeler to:
-
Model a newly composed business service or flow using processes or services and their
interfaces
-
Capture existing EIS (screen or communication area) interfaces or generate a new SOA suitable
interface
-
Generate adapters to and from interfaces supporting both the accumulation of information used in
request and response processing as well as data transformation activities between the flow and
the interface

CICS Integration Technology provided with CICS Transaction Server
The CICS Integration Technology function provided with CICS Transaction Server exploited by the
Service Flow Modeler provides the following enhancements:
-
Server adapter support In addition to Link3270 Server adapter, server adapters for DPL
(commarea), WebSphere MQ, and FEPI are provided.
-
Deployment patterns Deployment patterns vary depending on the characteristics of the adapter
service and nature of the request. For example, an Adapter service for a complex business
transaction may require access to multiple target applications and may result in data being updated,
while an Adapter service of a simple business transaction may require access to only a single target
application and may result in no data being updated. Patterns can be categorized as follows:
-
The single connector nonpersistent pattern consists of one or more interactions with multiple
target systems from within a single generated and deployed server adapter program.
-
The single connector persistent pattern provides for the context of the adapter (request/reply
data and an intermediate stage data). It also participates in two phase commit or roll back of the
back-end transaction.
-
The aggregate connector nonpersistent and persistent patterns Each connector type can be
composed into a command sequence which can have one or more interactions with the target
application. State data can be persisted.
Windows-based Asset Analyzer Technology Preview

artifacts.
Enterprise Generation Language (EGL):
WebSphere Developer for zSeries includes EGL, a high-level procedural language (familiar to
SQL, COBOL, RPQ, and Informix 4GL developers) that developers, unfamiliar with Java, can use to
quickly build data-driven Web applications and business logic. Developers can write and debug their
applications in EGL and WebSphere Developer for zSeries generates the Java code for them. Used in
conjunction with JavaServer Faces (JSF), EGL allows developers to build dynamic Web applications
without having to learn the Java language. This capability opens up Java development to a new class
of developers that apply their business domain expertise and use their skills as procedural
developers to build dynamic Web applications.
EGL is a development environment and programming language that lets you write full-function
applications quickly, freeing you to focus on the business problem your code is addressing rather
than on software technologies. You can use similar I/O statements to access different types of
external data stores, for example, whether those data stores are files, relational databases, or
message queues. The details of Java and J2EE are hidden from you, too, so you can deliver
enterprise data to browsers even if you have minimal experience with Web technologies. After you
code an EGL program, you generate it to create Java source (or COBOL source with the optional, new
EGL for COBOL Extension feature described below); then EGL prepares the output to produce executable
objects.
A conversion utility is also provided enabling batch conversion of VisualAge® Generator V4.5
programs and other source to the new EGL language syntax.
Enterprise Generation Language for COBOL Extension:
Application processes built in EGL can also be deployed to zSeries CICS environments through
the EGL for COBOL Extension feature, which can be purchased separately. EGL generation to the COBOL
language enables deployment of server-based EGL components to CICS environments. Connectivity is
provided through JCA. Application patterns or environments supported include:
-
Terminal user interface (TUI) and batch applications accessing DB2®, VSAM, MQ, and CICS data
stores deployed to CICS Transaction Server and batch applications
-

WebSphere Developer for zSeries has two charge units Authorized User and Floating User.
An Authorized User is one and only one individual, machine, program, or device with a specific
identity (ID) within or outside the customer's enterprise. A Proof of Entitlement is required for
each authorized user accessing the program or any program component either directly or indirectly
through any means on behalf of the user. An example of indirect access would be through a
multiplexing program, device, or application server. The program can be accessed by multiple users
provided that a user authorization has been obtained for each individual user. Authorized users
have unique specific identity and IDs cannot be shared. An ID can establish one or more connections
and count as a single User.
A Floating User, also known as a concurrent user, is one individual, machine, program, or device
within or outside of the customer's enterprise. A Proof of Entitlement is required for the highest
number of floating users simultaneously accessing the program or any program component either
directly or indirectly through any means on behalf of the user. An example of indirect access would
be through a multiplexing program, device, or application server. A floating user can establish one
or more connections and count as a single user.

available.
While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance
for your routine, short-duration installation and usage (how-to)
