Tivoli Storage Manager are designed to enable high availability of business applications by helping to provide superior data protection and unique technology to help significantly improve performance and resource utilization. Additionally, optional application modules for mail, databases, application servers, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and hardware may help provide higher levels of application and hardware integration with the data protection process.
Tivoli Storage Manager is designed to help ensure the recoverability through the automated creation, tracking, and vaulting of reliable recovery points. Tivoli Storage Manager is designed to help the user evolve into an on demand storage environment in order to help deliver specific results in the areas of:
- Improved application availability
- Optimized storage resource utilization
- Enhanced storage personnel productivity
Tivoli Storage Manager V5.3 is designed to help provide significant improvements to the ease of use, and ease of administration and serviceability characteristics. These enhancements may help customers improve the productivity of personnel administering and using Tivoli Storage Manager. Additionally, the product is designed to be easier to use for new administrators and users.
Tivoli Storage Manager Administration Center
A new Web interface for administrators, called the Administration Center, is enhanced to help provide easier deployment and administration, to help the user improve personnel productivity, and to help the user use resources more efficiently.
The Administration Center is installed as an IBM Integrated Solutions Console (ISC) component. The Administration Center uses ISC to help provide a consolidated view for managing the user's Tivoli Storage Manager servers. ISC can also be used with other IBM products that have interfaces built to the ISC architecture.
The Administration Center enhancements include:
- A task oriented interface guiding the end user through the administration of Tivoli Storage Manager servers
- A single interface to sign onto and manage multiple Tivoli Storage Manager servers
- Wizards to simplify and help reduce the time needed to complete more complex tasks
- A new, more modern look and feel for the Administrator Web GUI and consistent look and feel with other IBM products
- An interface based on an architecture for potential integration among IBM products
- A tutorial to guide the user through the new integrated Tivoli Storage Manager environment
Calendar-based scheduling
Scheduling of Tivoli Storage Manager operations may be done with an external scheduler or with the built-in Tivoli Storage Manager scheduler. The Tivoli Storage Manager scheduler provides calendar-based scheduling designed to increase flexibility of client and administrative schedules. The scheduler can be exploited via administrative commands or a Web interface.
Some examples of schedules that can be created are:
- First and third Tuesday of every month
- Last Friday of every month
- First and 15th day of every month
- Tenth day of last month in each quarter
- First Saturday or Sunday of every month
- Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
Operational customization
Operational customization can simplify the control and scheduling of routine administrative tasks through the Administrator Web GUI. This can help allow administrators to set up migration and reclamation schedules to run during convenient server activity times. It also includes new script commands that can help allow the processing of server commands in parallel in a server script.
Multi-process reclamation and migration
The time needed to perform Tivoli Storage Manager reclamation and migration for sequential access storage pools may be reduced when multiple tape drives are configured for these operations. The number of multiple concurrent reclamation and migration processes may be configured for the same sequential-access storage pool to help utilize multiple drives, which is in addition to the concurrency that occurs when there are multiple sequential pools. The new concurrency is designed to occur on the volumes within a pool. Disk storage pools and optical storage pools that are formatted for sequential access can also help utilize the multiple drives.
The efficiency of reclamation for off-site volumes may be improved. Off-site volume reclamation may be completed in less time and the number of off-site volumes to be reclaimed may be controlled.
Collocation by group of nodes
The utilization of tapes may be improved when using collocation of a group of nodes whose data will be collocated together on sequential media. Collocation is designed to help reduce the number of volume mounts that are required when a large number of files are restored from a sequential-access storage pool by helping to minimize the number of tapes on which the data is stored. As tapes provide larger and larger capacity, they can be more efficiently used when data from multiple nodes is stored on them while still preserving the benefits of collocation. The efficiency of Tivoli Storage Manager internal data-transfer operations may be improved by transferring all nodes in the group together. This may result in less database scanning, with fewer tape passes and possibly reduced tape wear for file processing.
StorageTek ACSLS library drive sharing
Tivoli Storage Manager helps to provide native support for drive sharing with STK ACSLS libraries. STK libraries, controlled by ACSLS, can be used with Tivoli Storage Manager to help to provide drive sharing in the same library among multiple Tivoli Storage Manager servers and also to help to provide access to use those drives with LAN-free clients. This support offers an alternative to the existing requirement of using external library support and related software to provide these capabilities with Tivoli Storage Manager. Library managers, library clients, and LAN-free storage agents can be on AIX, Windows, and Solaris. Additionally, library clients and LAN-free storage agents can be on Linux and HP-UX. The library managers on AIX, Windows, and Solaris can be used with a STK library controlled by Library Station to help enable LAN-free access to a Tivoli Storage Manager server on z/OS.
Data encryption
Encryption is now available for applications using the Tivoli Storage Manager API, which includes the Tivoli Storage Manager Data Protection for Domino. New support for automatic key management can help enable use of encryption with API applications, often without any changes to the applications.
Proxy node support
Backup time may be reduced, and backup and recovery operations may be federated with proxy-node support. Tivoli Storage Manager nodes, when authorized, may be directed to backup or restore data on behalf of another node. This can help enable concurrent operations from multiple nodes to store data to the same target node and filespace in parallel to help reduce backup and restore times in environments such as IBM GPFS and to do federated backups. Proxy-node can also be exploited to provide support for cluster failover of Tivoli Storage Manager for z/OS clients in cluster environments that are not already explicitly supported.
Client include-exclude usability improvements
The creation, updating, and validation of client include-exclude statements may be made simpler. A wizard in the Tivoli Storage Manager Client GUI is provided that can help allow users to visually select files and directories to include or exclude them from their backup. The wizard can provide a means to modify and add simple include-exclude statements and patterns from the backup tree. A preview can be done using the client command line and GUI which will help show which objects will be backed up (or archived), based on the include-exclude statements created on the local client, and the include-exclude statements sent from the server client option set, without sending any data to the server.
File back versions can be deleted
Files that have been backed up may be deleted by using a backup-archive client. There are situations where data is backed up but must be removed from the backup repository. Some examples of this include files that were backed up (intentionally or unintentionally) that contain sensitive data that needs to be removed, and files that are backed up but were later found to contain viruses.
Backup files normally locked from backup (open file support)
Open file and online image support on Windows now supports using a single drive. Open file support for backup and archive is available for Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Online image backup support is available for Windows 2000, XP, and 2003. Tivoli Storage Manager can back up and archive open files, files locked from backup, and can also help provide a way to back up and archive groups of files, as they existed at a particular point in time. Users have the ability to run pre- and post-snapshot commands that can help them to quiesce applications prior to the start of the backup.
Open file support for backup includes the variations: incremental, incremental by date, selective, and incremental image. Additionally, open file support may work with both the sub-file and journal-based backup features on Windows systems.
Multiple session journal-based backup
Journal-based backup, which is available on Windows, can improve the overall backup time of incremental backups by eliminating the scan time of a filesystem for file selection. The journal-based backup function can be used to provide concurrent backup of different filesystems. The existing journal-based backup capability is enhanced to allow multiple sessions to back up the different filesystems by running multiple instances of the backup client or by using the Resource Utilization client option.
Activity log management
The management of the Tivoli Storage Manager server activity log may be more flexible. Administrators are provided with information that tells them how much space is in use by the activity log, and which allows them to manage the activity log based on its size. When the activity log maximum size is exceeded, the log is pruned starting with the oldest activity log records, until the activity log size no longer exceeds the configured maximum size allowed. Similarly, if the activity log occupies less space than the maximum allowed, no pruning is done. This log management option is in addition to the existing option to prune the log based on the age of the entries. The QUERY STATUS command is updated to display the management type and value of the setting for the activity log.
Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management (HSM) enhancements
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management uses HSM, which is an important component of information life cycle management. Space Management helps free administrators and users from manual filesystem pruning tasks, and helps control the need for additional disk storage, by automatically and transparently migrating files via policy to nearline or offline storage.
Space Management client support, previously available for AIX GPFS, is now added for Linux GPFS. Space Management clients for AIX GPFS and Linux GPFS support can be configured to have multiple nodes concurrently recall files. Using multiple nodes may result in an overall recall performance improvement. Partial file recalls, supported by AIX GPFS and Linux GPFS, may help allow increased performance for recalling only partial file objects from the Tivoli Storage Manager for z/OS server.
Space Management is added for AIX JFS2 and was previously made available for AIX JFS, AIX GPFS, Linux GPFS, Solaris VxFS, and HP-UX JFS.
Linux on AMD64 and EM64T
The Tivoli Storage Manager for z/OS 32-bit Linux Intel client is supported on AMD64 and EM64T. This support is based on the claims of compatibility with existing 32-bit software by the AMD64 and EM64T vendors.
Estimate Tivoli Storage Manager for z/OS database reorganization space recovery
A tool is provided to estimate space to be recovered in Tivoli Storage Manager for z/OS database reorganizations. A database reorganization may result in improved database performance. A database reorganization is typically done infrequently and would depend on the database size and the estimated amount of space to be recovered and use patterns of the databases.
Improved defaults
Many of the client and server defaults are designed to be optimized for use in today's environments.
Backup-restore on VMware virtual machines
This support is available for Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive clients and Tivoli Storage Manager Data Protection component clients that run on and are supported on the operating systems that are virtual machines on VMware and connect via TCP/IP to a Tivoli Storage Manager server that is not running on VMware. Tivoli Storage Manager client support is virtually the same as that provided for systems on native machines. VMware unique problems are intended to be reported to VMware. This support is available for both VMware ESX and GSX versions.
Backup-restore of VMware virtual disk files
Backup of VMware virtual disk can be done from the VMware ESX console and from the Linux host operating system running VMware GSX using the Tivoli Storage Manager for z/OS backup-archive client for Linux. The support for VMware GSX is designed to be available when running on a Linux distribution which is supported by the Tivoli Storage Manager for z/OS Linux x86 client. Virtual disk backup is available for specific configurations. Virtual disk backups can be used to help provide machine recovery of a VMware environment and when used in conjunction with virtual machine backups can help provide file level restore capability.
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Data Retention for z/OS
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition for z/OS helps extend its function-rich data retention capability to help provide for data retention policies that help meet regulatory requirements for data retention and disposition. Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition's existing policy-based data management capabilities helps meet the needs of many regulated industries today through an open application programming interface (API).
Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition currently is designed to prevent the modification of data under Tivoli Storage Manager control and the deletion of that data by unauthorized agents (individual or program). Tivoli Storage Manager for Data Retention for z/OS functionality helps extend this protection to help prevent the deletion by any agent prior to the expiration of the retention period. This helps assure that neither individuals nor programs can maliciously or accidentally delete data under Tivoli Storage Manager for Data Retention control.
Tivoli Storage Manager for Data Retention can provide integrated Data Retention Support for Network Appliance (NetApp) NearStore SnapLock. Tivoli Storage Manager file device class and storage pool support for NetApp NearStore storage devices is extended to exploit SnapLock capabilities for data retention and write once, read many (WORM) data permanence. Tivoli Storage Manager's storage pool management functions for data migration and reclamation are tightly integrated with SnapLock to help satisfy many worldwide regulatory compliance requirements. SnapLock support requires a Tivoli Storage Manager enabled version of NetApp Data ONTAP software. Contact your NetApp representative for access to this version of Data ONTAP.
Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail for z/OS
Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail for z/OS helps protect Lotus® Domino data within the Tivoli Storage Manager storage hierarchy. It supports online (hot) backup and helps exploit the backup-certified utilities and interfaces provided by Lotus Domino. This helps to maximize the protection of the data and the performance of backups and restores.
Data Protection (DP) for Domino usability may be improved by delivery of a Web GUI that helps provide administrators remote access to the Data Protection Domino client as well as integration with the backup-archive client Web GUI.
Previously made available in V5.2.x
Operational reporting
Operational reporting uses automation and proactive notification to help reduce the effort and amount of time needed to keep IBM Tivoli Storage Manager running smoothly. Operational reporting helps automate many of the activities that Tivoli Storage Manager Administrators perform manually on a daily basis.
Operational reporting views a Tivoli Storage Manager server as being in one of two states: Running Smoothly or Needs Attention. Customizable rules, set by the administrator, determine which state the Tivoli Storage Manager server is in. The state information is automatically determined and sent to selected recipients in the subject line of an e-mail. The e-mail provides access to a customizable status report. If a server needs attention, the e-mail also describes any issues and provides recommendations on how to get Tivoli Storage Manager running smoothly again. Operational reporting provides the ability to automatically send an e-mail to notify of failed or missed scheduled operations. Operational reporting is highly customizable using template and extension files. These files leverage the power of custom SQL select statements and can be easily shared. Operational reporting also provides for periodic monitoring with notification options.
Operational reporting runs as a Windows Service, and is integrated in the Tivoli Storage Manager management console as a Microsoft Management Console snap-in. Operational reporting can report on a supported Tivoli Storage Manager server platform.
IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Drive 3592
IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Drive 3592, including 3592 WORM functionality, is supported in the IBM TotalStorage UltraScalable Tape Library 3584. The 3592 is supported in mixed device configurations that may include LTO and DLT devices. The 3592 helps address storage requirements that are often filled by two types of drives: those that help provide fast access for data access and those that help provide high capacity for backups. The 3592 WORM functionality is designed to help support data retention needs and applications requiring an audit trail.
The 3592 requires the IBM tape device driver on the appropriate operating system. For more information, refer to

Additional platform support
The Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive client is supported on Novell NetWare 6.5 and on Linux on Intel Itanium.
MAC OS X useability is enhanced to help allow end users to backup and restore their own files without the need to be Tivoli Storage Manager for z/OS administrators for their system. Also, an administrator command line interface is provided, which helps allow a direct administrative interface to the Tivoli Storage Manager for z/OS server in place of using telnet, removing the restriction that required the system administrator to be logged on for scheduled events to occur.
Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management
Tivoli Storage Manager for Space managements adds platforms and file system support. Space Management is available on AIX GPFS, Linux Intel GPFS, and HP-UX 11i JFS.
Tivoli Data Warehouse (TDW)
TDW helps enable the user to get cross-application reports from various Tivoli and customer applications that place data into TDW. This infrastructure helps enable a set of extract, transform, and load (ETL) utilities to extract data from Tivoli application data stores and to move it to a central data warehouse database. Tivoli Storage Manager stores data into TDW to provide reports for data occupancy. These reports can be used to help answer the following questions.
- Which clients are using the most server storage?
- How has client use of storage changed over time?
- How has client use of storage changed over time by platform?
- How has server storage space utilization changed over time?
Performance improvements
Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management has been enhanced in Linux Intel GPFS with streaming support which helps enable the HSM recall request to access the local data while the remaining data is being recalled.
Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management has been enhanced with partial File Recall for AIX GPFS 2.2 to help retrieve a segment of the file from within space managed file. Partial file recall is expected to be of greatest benefit where only small portions of very large files need to be read.
Tivoli Storage Manager Multi-Session Backup and Restore has been improved to help to better organize backup and restore operations with clients using multiple file systems to improve backup and restore times in some environments by reducing tape thrashing on restore.
Serviceability

Value Unit-based pricing
Value Unit-based pricing will help align the prices of these products to the principle of the PSLC pricing curve, which provides for a lower price per MSU (millions of service units per hour) for larger capacities.
There is also a price benefit when customers grow their capacity. Additional capacity will be based on the number of Value Units (MSUs) the customer has already installed; for example, additional capacity will not be priced starting at the base with a higher price per unit but on the capacity that is already installed.
Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product.
IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations
IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to, an enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is the customer's responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.
Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement.
Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

| Product positioning |
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager is designed to help protect data. If a disk drive fails, or if the user accidentally deletes a file, Tivoli Storage Manager is designed to help restore your lost data. If your entire operation is hit by a disaster, Tivoli Storage Manager is designed to help keep the data safe. Tivoli Storage Manager helps protect the data by copying active online data to offline and off-site storage, even from many 24x365 applications. But that's not all. If the data growth exceeds the storage capacity, Tivoli Storage Manager is designed to be capable of effectively extending the capacity. Tivoli Storage Manager moves inactive data from online storage to less expensive offline or nearline storage. Tivoli Storage Manager can help automate and centralize all these functions, making reports and providing alerts for unusual events. Tivoli Storage Manager can help backup the data on any number of computers running any of more than a dozen different operating systems from notebooks to mainframes. Tivoli Storage Manager is a comprehensive data protection application.
Tivoli Storage Manager's capabilities
Backup-restore
Comprehensive data protection starts with data backups. Backups are a copy of the active online data stored on offline storage. Should an online storage device fail, a data error occur, or someone accidentally delete a file, the offline copy of that data can be copied back to online storage restored. Tivoli Storage Manager is recognized for its efficient backup methods. Tivoli Storage Manager uses multiple techniques to help reduce data transfer sizes to the minimum possible. These techniques help reduce the total time required for both data backups and, more importantly, data restores.
Disaster preparation and recovery
Comprehensive data protection also involves disaster preparation and recovery. Local copies of data can protect against discrete failures or errors in equipment, storage, or people. But disasters tend to happen to entire facilities, not just a portion of the equipment inside those facilities. Tivoli Storage Manager can help the user to prepare an additional copy of the active data for safekeeping at an off-site location, to provide that extra protection against disasters. Should a disaster strike and destroy the online storage and computers, the off-site copy of the active data can be restored to new computers to get the user's business up and running quickly.
Archive-retrieve
Tivoli Storage Manager goes beyond just data backups to include data archiving. Until online storage is as inexpensive as offline storage, archiving inactive data is an effective way to help reduce your online storage costs. The cost of storing a gigabyte of data on online storage is typically much more expensive than the same gigabyte on offline storage. Some percentage of a user's data is inactive if it hasn't been accessed in weeks if not months. Does that inactive data need to remain on expensive online storage? Tivoli Storage Manager can help the user to move that inactive data to offline storage helping to free up online disk space for more important active data. Should the user find that the inactive data the user has archived must be used again, Tivoli Storage Manager will help retrieve that data for the user.
HSM
Tivoli Storage Manager also includes a more automated version of archive called Hierarchical Storage Management or HSM. Like archiving, HSM helps remove data from online storage and puts it on less expensive offline storage. But unlike archive, HSM leaves a data-stub on online storage that shows the name of the removed file. With this stub, the user can easily access the offline data albeit much more slowly than if it were online. Tivoli Storage Manager's HSM capabilities are automated. Tivoli Storage Manager is designed to watch online data files to see how often they are used. If not opened for an administrator-specified length of time, they are removed to offline storage leaving only the data-stub behind. For many businesses with huge amounts of data, but not all of it needed online all the time, HSM may be one of the best ways to save on storage costs.
24X365 application protection
Some of today's most business-critical application programs must remain on and active 24 hours a day for 365 days a year. Fortunately, the manufacturers of some of these important programs understand the need for data protection. Some applications have a built-in capability to control external data protection applications. By directly controlling the time and method by which a data transfer to offline storage occurs, the application may continue operating with little or no interruption.
Tivoli Storage Manager's advantages
Management
Tivoli Storage Manager is a client-server application. One Tivoli Storage Manager server may handle hundreds of Tivoli Storage Manager clients. Tivoli Storage Manager's administration control is flexible via a hierarchy of administrators, each potentially designated with different management authority levels and specific domains defining user groups or applications. Multiple administrators may manage Tivoli Storage Manager simultaneously with data integrity. Multiple Tivoli Storage Manager servers may be controlled from any Tivoli Storage Manager server or via a Web interface from any computer. Data restore requests can be initiated and controlled from the Tivoli Storage Manager client, which may help to greatly reduce workload for the administrator. The heart of the Tivoli Storage Manager server is an integrated relational database. This database catalogs each data transfer backup, archive, HSM, and the complete set of data for every Tivoli Storage Manager clients. If the user tells Tivoli Storage Manager to do data backups every day, the database allows the restore of data from every day in the past for as far back as the user specifies. Like a time machine, Tivoli Storage Manager lets the user go back in time to previous versions of the data files. The user specifies the frequency of backups, where the copied data is held (magnetic disk storage pool, optical disk, and data tape), how long it is held there until migrating the next storage type, and how long each version is kept before it is erased, and the space it used is made available for new data copies. The user also specifies how often data tapes should be tested for data integrity, what percentage of unused tape should remain before the tape's data is consolidated to another tape (freeing complete tapes for reuse), and how quickly data for specific users should be consolidated from multiple tapes to a minimum set of tapes to speed data restores.
Automation
All the management capabilities of Tivoli Storage Manager can be automated. Automation control is via an extremely granular policy engine. This engine may be configured down to the individual file level to cover the who, what, where, when, and how of data transfers. Who has access to this file? What data should be transferred? Where should it be transferred to? When should Tivoli Storage Manager check to see if the file has changed and must be transferred again? How should the transfer occur? With Tivoli Storage Manager's policy-based automation engine configured and enabled, Tivoli Storage Manager is virtually a set-it and forget-it application. Tivoli Storage Manager reports what it has done and helps alert the user to anything out of the ordinary.
Support
The best automation and management features for data protection mean little if they won't work with the computers the user has. Tivoli Storage Manager's client software supports over a dozen operating systems. Tivoli Storage Manager's server software runs on most major operating systems. Platforms vary from laptop computers all the way up to mainframe computers. A supported server can work with a supported client, all cross-platform: Solaris with Windows, AIX with Solaris, OS/390® with HP-UX, virtually any combination. Tivoli Storage Manager supports hundreds of storage devices including optical disk and tape. To make sure backups and restores can happen as efficiently as possible, Tivoli Storage Manager also supports multiple network types dial-up, the Internet, WAN, LAN, and SAN. Each is maximized for the data bandwidth they are capable of reaching. Tivoli Storage Manager is also an open product. Its application programming interface (API) is available through the Tivoli Ready program.
Transfer
Even with the largest data pipes connecting servers and clients, Tivoli Storage Manager helps to minimize the amount of data going over those pipes. Because of Tivoli Storage Manager's integrated relational database, Tivoli Storage Manager is smart. Smart enough to know that if a file hasn't changed, it doesn't need to be backed up again ever. Smart enough to know that if only a few bytes of a file have changed, only those bytes must be backed up again. For those data transfers that include many bytes, Tivoli Storage Manager is designed to be optimized for disk-to-disk transfers. Instead of transferring data from the disk of a client computer, over the network, directly to a tape, Tivoli Storage Manager will instead make the first transfer to a disk storage pool. After an administrator-specified length of time (hours, days, or weeks), the data on that storage pool is migrated to other, less-expensive, offline storage devices. This technique helps allow more data to be moved faster, helping to reduce the total time of all data transfers both from and to clients. Disk-to-disk helps provide a data transfer technique better matched to the higher bandwidths of SANs and other gigabit networks. At the other end of the bandwidth spectrum, if a dial-up or Internet connection is dropped, Tivoli Storage Manager is smart enough to pick up where it left off. Instead of starting a transfer all over again when the connection is restored, Tivoli Storage Manager is designed to continue from where it previously ended.
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager helps protect your data, and IBM's service and support organization is a
resource for Tivoli Storage Manager users. Recognized as one of the best service and support
organizations in the world, IBM has been supporting Tivoli Storage Manager around the globe since
1999 and its previous versions, called ADSM, for more than a decade. Thousands of organizations are
using Tivoli Storage Manager today with many more than a million computers protected. Tivoli
Storage Manager is a comprehensive data protection application.

Planning information
Installability: For the z/OS server, the Tivoli Storage Manager database is not automatically upgraded. The Tivoli Storage Manager administrator must explicitly initiate the database upgrade utility, using the UPGRADEDB parameter, after the Tivoli Storage Manager server product has been installed. After the database has been upgraded, a previous version of the server product cannot be used to access the database.
As a normal precaution, it is recommended that a full database backup be performed before installing the V5.3 code, as well as after completing the installation. Refer to the Installation Guide manual for more detailed information.

Ordering z/OS through the Internet
ShopzSeries provides an easy way to plan and order the user's z/OS ServerPac or CBPDO. It will analyze the user's current installation, determine the correct product migration, and present the user's new configuration based on z/OS. Additional products can also be added to the user's order (including determination of whether all product requisites are satisfied). ShopzSeries is available in the U.S. and several countries in Europe. In countries where ShopzSeries is not available yet, the user should contact an IBM representative (or IBM Business Partner) to handle the user's order via the traditional IBM ordering process. For more details and availability, visit the ShopzSeries Web site at
The products in this announcement have one charge unit Value Units.
Value Units for IBM 9672 processors will be based upon the full capacity of these systems. This is applicable to all S/390-based systems that are measured on MSU capacity. Information on MSU capacities can be found in the IBM System/370, System/390® and zSeries Machine Exhibit , Z125-3901.
Value Units for zSeries will be based upon full MSU capacity as defined in the Machine Exhibits.
A tool will be available that provides support for transforming the MSU-based capacities of S/390 systems to new Value Units by calculating the applicable number of Value Units for a given number of MSUs.
