IBM WebSphere® Voice Server (WVS) for Multiplatforms V5.1.1 includes WebSphere Voice Server V5.1 for Media Resource Control Protocol (MRCP) and WVS V4.2 for AIX®. It delivers the following additional language support:

WebSphere Voice Server V5.1.x (V5.1.x refers to both V5.1, and V5.1.1) continues to provide:

- Support for MRCP V1 Draft 4, Speech Recognition Grammar Specification (SRGS) 1.0, Speech Synthesis Markup Language (SSML) 1.0.
- Capability to barge-in Allows user to interrupt the dialog and respond to a prompt.
- Grammar-based speech recognition, including support for dynamic grammars.
- System administration leveraging WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V5.1 which includes the WebSphere Application Server System Administrator's Console for ease of configuration, administration, troubleshooting, reviewing log, and trace information. WVS V5.1.x provides additional voice-specific administration panels to facilitate configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- WebSphere Application Server Network Dispatcher Edge Components (included with WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment) in front of a multi-machine WVS install to allow IP spraying. This allows machines to be taken out of service for maintenance and automatic failover and provides for scaling of the MRCP server.
- WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment Manager that allows a single WebSphere Application Server System Administrator's Console to manage a network of WVS V5.1.x machines.

IBM developed engines

WVS for Multiplatforms V5.1.1 includes:
- Speech recognition software that can listen to words spoken over a telephone, recognizes these words, and passes the recognized words as text to an application
- Text-To-Speech (TTS) software that synthesizes speech from application text for playback over a telephone
- Connection to many telephony platforms that support the MRCP standard
- Development tools, including support for applications written in VoiceXML 2.0
WVS V5.1.x is a software product that can be integrated with other software and hardware telephony products to speech-enable these products and their associated applications.
By using an application developed with WVS, you can place a telephone call from either a landline or mobile phone.
- A separate telephony server answers this telephone call.
- The telephony server fetches a VoiceXML document from an application server such as WebSphere Application Server.
- The telephony server then interprets this document and either requests synthesis or recognition to occur on the WVS.
- With WVS V4.2 for AIX, WebSphere Voice Response acting as the telephony server communicates with the WVS which listens to the speaker and recognizes words.
- With WVS V5.1.x for MRCP, the third-party IVRs and VoiceXML gateway communicates with the WVS, which listens to the speaker and recognizes words.
- These recognized words are then passed to the application, running on an application server such as WebSphere Application Server.
- WVS then uses the text to synthesize speech, which the telephony server routes back to the handset where the caller can hear it.

Voice Toolkit V5.1 for WebSphere Studio includes the functionality in Voice Toolkit V5.0 (graphical
call flow generation, call control support using CCXML, VoiceXML 2.0 editor, grammar editor, and a
pronunciation builder, VoiceXML 1.0 to 2.0 conversion utilities, grammar conversion utilities,
integrated simulator for application testing and debug) which allows application developers to
easily add voice technology to middleware applications.
Note: Although the Voice Toolkit V5.1 for WebSphere Studio supports WVS V5.1.x, WVS V4.2, WVR V4.2, and WVAA V5.0, not all of the proceeding capabilities are applicable to each of these products. Additional capabilities provided for WebSphere Voice Server 5.1 support include:

Compatibility: WVS V5.1.1 is not compatible with previous versions. Previous versions of WVS must be uninstalled prior to installing WVS V5.1.1.
WVS V5.1.1 is a self contained entity inside of a single machine. This product does not coexist with prior versions of the WVS, WVS Speech Technologies, or WVR. This product does not coexist with customer applications on the same machine.
WVS V5.1.1 does include both WebSphere Voice Server V5.1 and the WebSphere Voice Server V4.2 product CDs that supported the AIX environment.
Limitations
When used with WVR for AIX Environment:
- WVR uses a VoiceXML browser application packaged with WVR. VoiceXML uses applications stored on a Web server instead of applications stored on WVR. Therefore, it does not use DirectTalk® SSI environment for managing applications.
- WebSphere Voice Server for Voice Response for AIX V3.1/V4.2 needs PTF #1 (which includes PTF U496041 and PTF U497760) to run on AIX V5.2. Previous versions of WVS for WVR for AIX must be uninstalled prior installing WVS V4.2.

Packaging: WVS V5.1.1 is shipped in multiple separate Passport Advantage media pack packages of which it is "normally" necessary to order a minimum of two:
- One containing the base connection environment WVS V5.1.1 code
- A minimum of one language product to provide the desired language support for Speech Recognition
- If Concatenative TTS is desired, then the correct language product containing the Concatenative TTS product
Notes:
- Refer to the Ordering information section for a list of languages available with specific telephony or operating system platforms.
- Concatenative TTS (CTTS) may be ordered and executed in a standalone environment (without requiring the use of the WVS base product as a prerequisite) with the customer assuming responsibility for providing the necessary interface code.
Each media pack package contains one or more CD-ROMs, including:
- Program code
- Softcopy license (IPLA) which must be agreed to prior to installing the code
- Softcopy product documentation
Security, auditability, and control
WebSphere Voice Server uses the security and auditability features of the host hardware or software.

WebSphere Voice Server V5.1.1 is licensed Per Speech Port.
Each speech port corresponds to the support of a telephony channel, which is a single phone call established between the caller and the IVR application. The number of speech port authorizations required is equal to the number of telephony channels that have the ability to launch a speech session.
