New and enhanced features in V6.0 of the industry-leading WebSphere Application Server deliver the highly available, mission-critical application server for today's business needs.
Simplified packaging of WebSphere Application Server — Express now moves beyond a JDK and Web container for servlets, JSPs, and XML to include an Enterprise JavaBean (EJB) container, messaging, Web services, and an advanced work manager.
WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment now contains a single install image for the Application Server and Deployment Manager, making getting started quicker and easier.
The WebSphere Application Server family delivers business flexibility and responsiveness as the foundation for an on-demand infrastructure:

Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) support: WebSphere Application Server V6.0 is redesigned to simplify the task of connecting WebSphere applications or services to an ESB. An ESB is a key element of many SOA initiatives as it provides a standardized communications infrastructure for connecting services. With support for the latest Web services standards and Java Message Service (JMS) 1.1, WebSphere Application Server enables you to begin establishing an ESB for your WebSphere applications or services. A new 100% Java messaging engine delivered in V6.0 offers tremendous strides in terms of ease of use as well as impressive performance, fail-over, and scalability improvements.
If you invest in WebSphere MQ, you can easily extend your ESB end-to-end throughout your enterprise. You can quickly deploy an ESB consisting of WebSphere Application servers, WebSphere MQ servers, and WebSphere Business Integration Brokers. This mixed network of servers can then seamlessly exchange information across your enterprise regardless of whether the original communication began as a JMS message from WebSphere Application Server, a JMS message from WebSphere MQ, or even a native MQ message from WebSphere MQ. WebSphere MQ has been the market leader in Message Oriented Middleware for nearly ten years, providing the de facto standard for messaging with over 10,000 successful customer installations.
Even more programming model extensions for all configurations: As part of the packaging changes, many of the programming model extensions formerly in WebSphere Application Server Enterprise are moving to either WebSphere Application Server or WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment. This change makes migrating from configuration to configuration easier, providing the potential ability to move up a configuration without changing the application.

Easy to use and easy to manage: WebSphere Application Server, V6.0 features usability improvements to help increase time to value and reduce total cost of ownership.
Changes have been made to the administration console to streamline and improve time to value. WebSphere Application Server now has the same look and feel as other products across the IBM family. Additionally, console views may now be changed based on context-Version, Platform, or Installed Capabilities. This allows for greater control and a streamlined view.
AST provides you with basic assembly and deployment tooling for publishing to WebSphere Application Server, V6.0. The tool can be used to perform basic unit testing, debugging, and profiling functions. The Application Server Toolkit is built using Eclipse V3.0 technology with features for team programming, debugging, J2EE application deployment, and more. Eclipse is an open and industry-supported platform for development tools. The AST also provides a familiar interface for developers experienced with the Rational Developer family of products. Those products extend the capabilities of the Application Server Toolkit. The supported platforms for the AST are Microsoft™ Windows™ and Linux™.
WebSphere Rapid Deployment provides a rapid, easy-to-use framework for quickly and easily deploying applications to the WebSphere Application Server. WebSphere Rapid Deployment is designed to significantly reduce the complexity of building J2EE applications by automating the most common aspects of applications construction, assembly, and deployment. The number of CDs included in the box is also dramatically reduced allowing for a quicker, more manageable installation.
Service Data Objects (SDOs) solve the problem of many different models and APIs for data retrieval, representations, and the like. An SDO is a data programming architecture and API for the Java platform that:
- Unifies data programming across data source types
- Provides robust support for common application patterns
- Enables applications, tools, and frameworks to more easily query, view, bind, update, and introspect data
This architecture can help save time, money, and resources and is available with WebSphere Application Server, V6.

Warranty: This program has warranty for a minimum of one year from acquisition from IBM or authorized IBM Business Partner. The warranty provided to the customer, for at least one year from acquisition, is access to databases (read Web sites) for program information and FAQs, including any known fixes to defects, which the customer can download or obtain otherwise and install at leisure.
Program technical support: Technical support of a program product will be available for a minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. Customers will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.
Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a refund. This applies only to your first acquisition of the program.

Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software Subscription and Technical Support, is included in the Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support is provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service enhances customer productivity, with voice and electronic access into IBM support organizations.
IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Maintenance can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option that is available.
While your Software Maintenance is in effect: IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions; and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Guide at
Software Maintenance does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under this agreement.

In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
