WebSphere Portal offerings are packaged so that a single part number delivers programs installable on all supported platforms. The national language versions of these programs contain the identified translated languages. Both the platform and language used are specified during product installation.
New value in WebSphere Portal V5.1
Virtual portals: Create multiple portal sites on one instance of WebSphere Portal. Each site has its own URL, look and feel, pages, users and groups, and search index. All sites share the same WebSphere Application Server (WAS) instance, installed portlets, and document libraries. With virtual portal, companies can centrally manage many different portals targeted to different constituencies in or outside of their organization, saving money on portal management, yet offering variety and customization to users. Each virtual portal can also be administered discretely with assignable administrator roles.
Business process integration: WebSphere Portal V5.1 includes a new process choreographer for building work flow processes as services that can be integrated into a person's portal experience. Portal's navigation paradigm is now not only role-based, but also includes activities in progress that are available to users through the new My Task portlet. Portal now combines people and applications at a process level, so that integration across applications and people is that much more seamless.
Content management: DB2 Content Manager runtime is included to manage all forms of content (Web, e-mail, documents, digitized paper documents, images, audio/video, text messages) consistently. A content management repository adds functionality over a database alone by providing the interface to not just store data, but to provide the structure to quickly access and associate that data with the business processes that leverage it.
WebSphere Portal Enable
The WebSphere Portal Enable offering provides maximum flexibility for customers. Core portal capabilities attract customers who need to get a robust portal up and running quickly. Based on the WebSphere Portal framework, it can be upgraded to the IBM advanced portal offering as customer needs evolve through the portal lifecycle.
WebSphere Portal Enable provides common services that include:
- Connectivity and integration to allow access to enterprise data and applications, external newsfeeds, or Web data, and applications

Create content geared toward your visitors
Now you can build a Web site that allows users to select which applications they view and how they want to view them. Your site becomes easier to use. Irrelevant content is filtered out and pertinent content can be located quickly.
The Web content management feature in WebSphere Portal Enable gives business users the tools to easily create and manage content for their portal. This technology helps to increase employee productivity by taking some of the burden from the IT staff and empowering non-technical users to create specific Web content. Content that is frequently updated by subject matter experts and personalized improves the return rate of portal users and helps to increase sales revenue.
The WebSphere Portal document manager provides a way for portal users to share, search, organize, and edit files of all types ranging from documents to spreadsheets within the portal community. This productivity enhancement offers the following:
- Simple approval processes for file contribution
- Instant messaging integration so that people can discuss documents with authors
- Versioning so that users can track the evolution of a piece of content
- Inline editing of documents with desktop applications or productivity components
- Access control for managing viewing privileges of different content items
Improve the productivity of users executing business processes
Text editing and spreadsheet functions are critical to many business processes, however, these functions are not integrated with other systems and expensive to maintain with existing solutions.
Provided with WebSphere Portal, WebSphere Portal productivity components allow users to view, create, convert, and edit basic documents, spreadsheets, and presentation files from the same portal interface used to interact with information, applications, and people across their business. The productivity components are integrated with the WebSphere Portal document manager so that files can be indexed, categorized, and searched by other portal users.
WebSphere Portal also includes a new process choreographer for building work flow processes as services that can be integrated into a person's portal experience. Leverage information by managing content
Integration of a content management repository provides the infrastructure for portal applications to easily store, retrieve, and manage content minimizing lost or inaccessible information. In the past, a content repository typically was optimized for one specific type of content, and one specific type of application, and user population. In the on demand business world, compartmentalization of content into separate silos is no longer a viable option. All content types share similar needs for search, access control, workflow, collaboration, and personalization. Leveraging a common repository for managing content across all your portal applications can keep information the lifeblood of your organization flowing and lowers deployment costs. When portal users need to access other content repositories, WebSphere Portal V5.1 provides integration to them via one of our many IBM Business Partners. IBM is also actively participating in the development of open standards for accessing content management repositories, which will simplify the access and sharing of content across an organization.
Reduce integration costs
IT cost reduction can be achieved with easy-to-use cooperative portlets, based on click-to-action technology. Click-to-action allows the user to perform portlet or application integration on the screen by clicking on information in one portlet and automatically transferring the information to another portlet for processing.
Another cost savings can be realized with the WebSphere Portal application integrator that allows business users to define the interaction a portlet will have with the objects from enterprise information systems, relational databases, and Domino databases.

Building on the portal framework in the WebSphere Portal Enable offering, the WebSphere Portal Extend offering adds the following features:
- Parallel, distributed, and heterogeneous searching capability
- Individual and shared team workspaces with built-in collaborative capabilities
- Collaborative functional services for other portlets
- Web site analytics
- Portal metrics
Increase productivity through robust collaboration capability
WebSphere Portal features the Lotus collaboration center. Collaboration center eliminates the barriers between applications as well as the barriers to productivity. It allows organizations to build and deploy collaborative intranet and employee portals. The main benefits of the Productivity Components are:

The Productivity Components do not provide advanced editing capabilities that would be used by

Warranty: This program has warranty for a minimum of one year from acquisition from IBM or authorized IBM Business Partner. The warranty provided to the customer, for at least one year from acquisition, is access to databases (read Web sites) for program information and FAQs, including any known fixes to defects, which the customer can download or obtain otherwise and install at leisure.
Program technical support: Technical support of a program product will be available for a minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. Customers will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.
Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a refund. This applies only to your first acquisition of the program.

Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software Subscription and Technical Support, is included in the Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support is provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service enhances customer productivity, with voice and electronic access into IBM support organizations.
IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Maintenance can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option that is available.
While your Software Maintenance is in effect: IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions; and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center.
