| Description |
IBM first announced its entry into the database tools business in September 2000, delivering a set of 34 tools for DB2 and IMS, covering key system management functions, and committing to expand this portfolio in response to customer requirements.
This offering marks IBM's thirteenth database tools announcement in less than five years, proof of our ability to offer a broad range of tools that support DB2 and IMS databases, and to provide that support with rapid availability for each new version or release of the databases.
To view the complete list of DB2 and IMS Tools' announcements, visit
IBM now offers more than 70 tools that feature common interfaces and cross-tool integration, tested under the same configurations and workloads as the databases they support. As we enter the era of autonomic computing, DB2 and IMS Tools will become increasingly self-managed in terms of dynamically monitoring and managing data, taking responsibility for decision-making and initiating action.

DB2 Information Integrator Classic Federation for z/OS, V8.2 (5697-I82) provides SQL access to mainframe databases and files with transactional speed and enterprise scale without mainframe programming.
Using DB2 Information Integrator Classic Federation, applications can map mainframe assets into relational views, build integrated views across mainframe databases and files co-resident on a single z/OS instance, and issue SQL SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE from open database connectivity (ODBC), Java database connectivity (JDBC), or a Call Level Interface (CLI) to access them. Access to DB2 UDB, IMS, and VSAM mainframe data is provided with the base product. Three optional features are available to extend these services for Software AG Adabas as well as Computer Associates CA-Datacom and CA-IDMS data.
This new release provides double-byte character set (DBCS) support for global companies and the Asia-Pacific market, and is translated into Japanese.
More information is provided in the Supplemental information section.
DB2 DataPropagator for z/OS, V8.2 (5655-I60) provides change data capture and replication from and to DB2 UDB for z/OS databases. Plus, it interoperates with the replication capabilities built into DB2 UDB for distribution to and from DB2 UDB or Informix databases. And it works with DB2 Information Integrator for Linux, UNIX, or Windows for replication among a variety of relational databases from other vendors. DB2 DataPropagator leverages the SQL replication architecture that maximizes flexibility in managing scheduling, transformation, and distribution topologies efficiently and effectively for populating warehouses or marts. It maintains data consistency between disparate applications, or efficiently manages distribution and consolidation configurations involving central locations and distributed branch or retail sites.
- The replication server supports distribution (moving data from one database to many) and consolidation (moving data from many databases to one) scenarios.
- Data can be filtered either horizontally or vertically so that only the data you are interested in is replicated.
- Transformation can be applied online with the data movement via standard SQL expressions or stored procedure execution.
- Data movement can be automated on a specific schedule, at designated intervals, continuously, or event-driven.
- Data movement can be managed table-at-a-time, such as for warehouse loading during batch windows or with transaction consistency for data which is never offline.
Administrators can use a wizard-driven GUI, command-line processor, and/or script-driven processes to configure the variety of topologies, latency, and consistency characteristics for the SQL-based architecture. Integrated monitoring and statistics make it easy for administrators to react to problems and proactively maintain health.
New in DB2 DataPropagator V8.2 are administration enhancements plus the addition of the ASNTDIFF reconciliation utility that aids administrators in evaluating the consistency between multiple copies of a table.
DB2 Information Integrator Event Publisher for DB2 Universal Database for z/OS, V8.2 (5655-M36), DB2 Information Integrator Classic Event Publisher for IMS, V8.2 (5655-M38), and DB2 Information Integrator Classic Event Publisher for VSAM, V8.2 (5655-M35) make it easy to link data events with business processes. DB2 Information Integrator Event Publisher offerings capture database changes in DB2 UDB for z/OS, IMS, or VSAM by reading the active or recovery log, format the changes into consistent relational XML messages, and publish them to WebSphere® MQ. Any application or service that integrates either with WebSphere MQ directly or supports Java Message Service (JMS) can asynchronously receive the data changes as they occur.
DB2 Information Integrator Event Publisher solutions enable database events to initiate business processes. For example, a change in an inventory value could be used to drive a product restocking workflow or the addition of a new customer could initiate welcome e-mail, credit verification, and accounting update. This creates an application-independent, loosely coupled integration that is more adaptable to changing application environments. For example, while multiple applications may impact the value of the inventory level, a single point of integration the data items themselves is driving the workflow. Changes to the applications that impact the inventory level can be made with no impact on the event driven integration. Business can realize faster time to market, based on integration that captures the event in a single location, is more stable, and easier to maintain.
Additionally, DB2 Information Integrator Event Publisher solutions can deliver changes to Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) tools, or custom-built processes for updating operational data stores, or data warehouses minimizing bandwidth requirements, keeping target databases more closely in synch. Thus, businesses can utilize information that is far more current for tactical and operational decision-making.
DB2 Information Integrator Replication for z/OS, V8.2 (5655-L88) is a new offering that replicates data to and from DB2 UDB for z/OS using either the SQL-based or queue-based architectures and provides event publishing from DB2 UDB databases. (It subsumes and offers additional function over and above DB2 DataPropagator for z/OS and DB2 Information Integrator Event Publisher for DB2 Universal Database for z/OS.) Plus, it interoperates with DB2 UDB built-in replication for distribution to and from DB2 UDB or Informix databases, or with DB2 Information Integrator for Linux, UNIX, or Windows for replication among a variety of relational databases from third-party vendors.
The SQL-based replication architecture (also available with DB2 DataPropagator) maximizes flexibility in managing scheduling, transformation, and distribution topologies efficiently and effectively for populating warehouses or marts, maintaining data consistency between disparate applications, or efficiently managing distribution, and consolidation scenarios among headquarter and branch or retail configurations.
- The replication server supports distribution (moving data from one database to many) and consolidation (moving data from many databases to one) scenarios.
- Data can be filtered either horizontally or vertically so that only the data you are interested in is replicated.
- Transformation can be applied inline with the data movement via standard SQL expressions or stored procedure execution.
- Data movement can be automated on a specific schedule, at designated intervals, continuously, or event-driven.
- Data movement can be managed table-at-a-time such as for warehouse loading during batch windows or with transaction consistency for data which is never offline.
For DB2 UDB only applications, DB2 Information Integrator Replication for z/OS introduces new queue-based replication architecture for low-latency, high-throughput replication with managed conflict detection and resolution to support business continuity, workload distribution, and application integration scenarios.
- Committed changes are published to a WebSphere MQ message queues. A sophisticated apply engine determines transaction dependencies and replay transactions on target systems to maximize parallelism and minimize latency.
- A rich set of conflict detection and resolution algorithms are available in order to allow backup systems to do productive work or so that application workload can be distributed across multiple servers. Both value-based and version-based algorithms are provided.
- Data can be filtered so that only the data of interest is replicated.
- Stored procedures can be invoked by the apply engine on a row basis in order to facilitate transformations for application integration scenarios. Automatic and high-performance load options are integrated allowing data to be loaded at the same time data is being replicated.
DB2 Information Integrator Replication for z/OS makes it easy to link data events with business processes. It captures database in DB2 UDB by reading the recovery log, formats the changes into XML messages, and publishes them to WebSphere MQ. Any application or service that integrates either with WebSphere MQ directly or supports JMS can asynchronously receive the data changes as they occur. For example, using DB2 Information Integrator's event publishing capability, WebSphere Business Integration can receive changes as they occur from a DB2 UDB database and automatically update an SAP application. Alternatively, a JMS-aware application or a service within any Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) Server (that is, BEA WebLogic or WebSphere Application Server) could receive those same changes and perform additional processing or integration.
- Data can be formatted into either transaction messages or row messages depending upon application need.
- Database changes being published can be filtered such that only the data that the receiving application is interested in are published.
- Messages can be tailored to include only the changed data that the application requires.
Administrators can use a wizard-driven GUI, command-line processor, and/or script-driven processes to configure the variety of topologies, latency, and consistency characteristics for both SQL-based and queue-based architectures as well as for event publishing. Integrated monitoring and statistics make it easy for administrators to react to problems and proactively maintain health.

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation act
The products in this announcement are capable as of their planned availability, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.
Value Unit-based pricing
Value Unit pricing for eligible zSeries® International Program License Agreement (IPLA) programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each zSeries IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly, Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description.
Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for customers. For each zSeries IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the "required license capacity." Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulates that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three digit code.
Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offers additional price benefits for customers. The quantity of each zSeries IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as "entitled license capacity." If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for a zSeries IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired.
For each zSeries IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:
- Determine the required license capacity in MSUs
- Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise
- Convert the total MSUs to Value Units using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit, and
- Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost.
To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to VUs or vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. For additional information or to obtain a copy of the Value Unit Converter Tool, visit the Value Unit Converter Tool Web site
Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product.
To determine the applicable Value Unit Exhibit for the zSeries IPLA program you selected, refer to the Ordering information section.
IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations
IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is the customer's responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.
Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

IBM Tools for information integration management
DB2® Information Integrator Classic Federation for z/OS®, V8.2 (5697-I82)
The three optional features that provide support for Software AG Adabas and Computer Associates CA-Datacom and CA-IDMS data are:
- DB2 Information Integrator Connector for Software AG Adabas
- DB2 Information integrator Connector for CA-Datacom
- DB2 Information Integrator Connector for CA-IDMS
SQL-literate tools, and application developers are productive immediately. They can integrate mainframe data into everything from a simple read-oriented customer self-service Web site to a complex multi-database read/write e-commerce site.
DB2 Information Integrator Classic Federation maps a logical relational table structure over existing physical databases. UNIX®, Windows, and Linux tools, and applications issue standard SQL commands to these logical tables. Behind the scenes, DB2 Information Integrator Classic Federation dynamically generates native data access commands that are optimized for each database and file type. Results are automatically translated and reformatted into relational rows and columns providing seamless integration of all mainframe data assets without proprietary programming.
With 60% of structured business data residing on the mainframe, mainframe data access is important to the success of many of today's business-critical IT initiatives including:
- Delivering mainframe operational data to customer self-service Web sites
- Connecting e-commerce sites with mainframe inventory data
- Integrating business intelligence systems in real time with mainframe accounting data
- Connecting an enterprise portal to mainframe HR data
DB2 Information Integrator Classic Federation can also extend IBM DB2 Information Integrator V8.2 (5724-C74) to include access to non-relational mainframe data sources. DB2 Information Integrator lets applications access diverse and distributed data, including multi-vendor mainframe and distributed, structured and unstructured, public and private, as if it were a single database.
The benefits of DB2 Information Integrator Classic Federation V8.2 include:
- Extending the value of existing mainframe investments. Rather than ripping out and replacing mainframe assets, clients can extend these investments to deliver new business applications or integrate business operations.
- Reducing time-to-value for integration projects that require mainframe data by eliminating proprietary coding and multiplatform development, and automating complex multi-source integration.
- Minimizing dependence on scarce legacy data skills by empowering non-mainframe staff to automatically leverage legacy data sources without investing in the proprietary skills associated with these data sources.
- Empowering IT to rapidly deliver information rich-business solutions that present up-to-the second information, rather than stale copied data.
DB2 Information Integrator Classic Federation can be used as a stand-alone solution or in conjunction with DB2 Information Integrator V8.2.
IBM Tools for performance management
DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer, V2.2 (5655-I22) enhancements include:
- Seamless support for DB2 V7 and V8. DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer operates in DB2 V7 and V8 environments. You do not have to wait until DB2 V8 migration time to install and use this version of DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer. The product automatically detects the current DB2 version and behaves accordingly. The majority of enhancements, including the redesigned reports and streamlined processing, are benefits intended for all users.
-
Full exploitation of DB2 V8 features. This release of DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer contains full
support for DB2 V8. It handles the new V8 catalog, including longer column names, new values, and
new columns, in either Unicode or EBCDIC. The product recognizes and reports table and index
"versioning", "volatile" tables, MQTs, DPSIs, and other DB2 V8-specific enhancements. DBRM modules
in Unicode or EBCDIC are handled and processed in both DB2 V8 Compatibility and New Function Modes.
Parser support for DB2 V8 includes SQL enhancements, such as:
- Insert within select
- Multi-row fetch and insert
- Parallel sorts
- Long predicates
- Stage 1 indexable predicates for mixed data types
- Inserts and updates with qualified column names
- Grouping expressions for sort
- Multiple distinct sort
- Full scalar selects in expressions
- Common table expressions
- Recursive SQL
- Dynamic scrollable cursors
-
Redesigned and enhanced reports. DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer reports have been redesigned to make
the data and content more readable and to handle the larger column values supported in DB2 V8.
- SQL Advisor messages are now neatly boxed and easy to locate.
- An optional predicate analysis section has been added to the reports, detailing the optimizer's evaluation of each predicate.
- The QLIMIT report has added columns for DBRM Member and Rejection Reason (DB2 Path Checker).
- All reports have headers with time and date, plus additional information.
- Other improvements are provided in the data content. For example, more information on index column cardinality for both selected and alternate indexes is included in the body of the reports.
- Workload Manager stored procedures. The SQL Performance Analyzer stored procedure, which formerly ran under control of the DB2 stored procedure address space (DB2SPAS) and CAF, has been redesigned to run under the z/OS Workload Manager (WLM) and RRSAF. DB2 V8 discourages support for DB2-managed stored procedures in favor of WLM control. Both CAF and RRSAF operation under DB2 V7 are provided.
- Other improvements. Improvements in operation, parameterization, ease of use, flexibility, and self-diagnosis are provided in this release.

Full-capacity mainframes
In cases where full-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply:
-
Execution-based, z/OS-based, full-machine-based:
The required capacity of a zSeries IPLA program with these terms equals
the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the zSeries IPLA program
executes.
For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, refer to "The System/370, System/390®, and zSeries Machine Exhibit" (Z125-3901) or visit the Mainframes section of the zSeries Exhibits Web site
- Reference-based: The required license capacity of a zSeries IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the "parent" program.
Sub-capacity mainframes
In cases where sub-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply:
-
Full-machine-based:
The required license capacity of a zSeries IPLA program with
full-machine-based terms equals the MSU rated capacity of the machines
where the zSeries IPLA program executes.
For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, refer to "The System/370, System/390, and zSeries Machine Exhibit" (Z125-3901) or visit the Mainframes section of the zSeries Exhibits Web site
- Reference-based: The required license capacity of a zSeries IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable MLC program. This MLC program is called the "parent" program.
For more information on sub-capacity zSeries IPLA terms and conditions, refer to Software Announcement 204-184 , dated August 10, 2004.
Additional information for products with reference-based terms
zSeries IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms add value to the parent program across the environment, regardless of where in environment the zSeries IPLA program executes.
An environment is defined as either a single/stand-alone machine or a qualified Parallel Sysplex®. Customers may have one or more different environments across their enterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each zSeries IPLA program with referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.
When a zSeries IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used in a qualified Parallel Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of the zSeries IPLA program must equal with the license capacity of the parent program across the Parallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one:
- That meets the criteria defined in Hardware Announcement 198-001 , dated January 13, 1998
- Where MLC pricing is aggregated across the Sysplex
Sub-capacity eligibility
To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select zSeries IPLA programs, you must first implement and comply with all terms of either sub-capacity workload license charges (WLC) or sub-capacity entry workload license charges (EWLC). To implement sub-capacity WLC or EWLC, a machine must be zSeries (or equivalent). On that machine:
- All instances of the OS/390 operating system must be migrated to the z/OS (or z/OS.e) operating systems.
- Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued.
- All instances of the z/OS operating (or z/OS.e) systems must be running in z/Architecture (64-bit) mode.
For that machine, you must create and submit a sub-capacity report to IBM each month. Sub-capacity reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool (SCRT). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, visit the zSeries Software Pricing Web site
You must comply with all of the terms of the WLC or EWLC offering, whichever is applicable:
-
The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity WLC are defined in the
IBM Customer Agreement
- Attachment for zSeries Workload License Charges (Z125-6516)
-
The complete terms and conditions for sub-capacity EWLC are defined in
the IBM Customer Agreement
- Attachment for z800 and z890 Software License Charges (Z125-6587)
Additionally, you must sign and comply with the terms and conditions specified in the amendment to the IPLA contract
- Amendment for zSeries Platform Programs Sub-Capacity Pricing (Z125-6929, or higher)
On/Off Capacity on Demand
To be eligible for On/Off Capacity on Demand pricing, customers must be enabled for temporary capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract must be signed prior to use.
-
Attachment for Customer Initiated Upgrade and IBM
