Description
WebSphere Business Integration Modeler is a core component for Business Performance Management. Business Performance Management allows an organization to understand the status of business processes across business and IT, put that understanding in context against goals and trends, and then take action quickly to improve execution. The solution delivers a structure for continuous business improvement. A core underlying functionality is the ability to analyze and model business processes. WebSphere Business Integration Modeler provides software tools to help you model, simulate, and analyze complex business processes quickly and effectively. Line-of-business managers as well as business analysts can more easily design and develop process flows that improve how you do business. With WebSphere Business Integration Modeler products, you will be able to maximize business effectiveness by optimizing processes that give you competitive leadership in today's on demand business environment.
WebSphere Business Integration Modeler Advanced Edition
WebSphere Business Integration Modeler Advanced Edition bridges the gap between Line of Business and IT. It provides robust functionality for process modeling, enterprise modeling, essential data and artifact modeling, organization modeling, resource modeling, timeline and location modeling, and business process analysis. The Modeler is intuitive and easy to use with three user profiles for modeling. The three user profiles are: basic, intermediate, and advanced. The Business and IT communities utilize an Eclipse-based shared workspace. The three technology modes, operational, Business Process Execution Language (BPEL), WebSphere MQ Workflow Flow Definition Language (FDL), allow users to work in the profile with which they will be deploying. Business analysis is core for improving your business. Many business process modeling efforts stop at developing flow diagrams or process maps. With the IBM WebSphere Business Integration Modeler Advanced Edition, the effort is extended to include simulation, analysis, and redesign.
WebSphere Business Integration Modeler Advanced Edition includes a simulation engine that allows users to simulate the dynamic behavior of their process, permitting analysis of workloads and bottlenecks. Users can view analysis on the process, resources, activity, and queue during or after the simulation is complete. The flows are animated in a step-by-step simulation that allows you to see real-time data on the flows. Simulation snapshots are available for reference. The simulation engine enables you to determine the most efficient model prior to implementation by quickly conducting the "what-if" analysis.
WebSphere Business Integration Modeler Advanced Edition includes a reporting tool that can automatically create written, numerical, and graphical reports. The reports provide valuable guidance in the process analysis and redesign. Some of the predefined reports are:
- Process Summary Report
- Process Comparison Reports Combines and compares the Process Summary Reports from two process simulations for comparisons and provides ROI comparisons of As-Is and To-Be flows
- Documentation Report Provides an overview of the attributes of business items, resource, or other model elements
- Procedure Report Documents the sequence of steps within a process, and the relationships of that process to other processes and roles
These reports allow for a detailed weighted average analysis to validate and optimize the processes defined. You can improve your business by understanding the processes' time and cost performances. All of this can be rolled up into comprehensive communication tools through charts, tables, reports, graphs, or diagrams. If a customized report is needed, there is a Report Builder to help you generate it. This release also includes support for publishing models to the Web.
Once the models have been built, simulated, analyzed, and corrected, they can be deployed to multiple code generation tools. The models can be exported to the WebSphere Studio Application Developer Integration Edition V5.1 for deployment to WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation V5.1 through BPEL, Web Services Description Language (WSDL), and XSDs. WebSphere Business Integration Modeler Advanced Edition also supports the capability to export to Rational® XDE®, under the Business Modeling Profile. And finally, the tool still supports integration with WebSphere MQ Workflow through FDL. The FDL can be exported directly to WebSphere MQ Workflow Build-time.
The WebSphere Business Integration Modeler Advanced Edition is able to import FDL from WebSphere MQ Workflow and models from WebSphere Business Integration Modeler V4.2.4. Included with the product is Visio import capabilities.
The Modeler allows you to support and implement enterprise initiatives, such as:
- Workflow automation
- Policy and procedure documentation
- Application development
- Sarbanes-Oxley initiatives
- HIPAA
The WebSphere Business Integration Modeler Advanced Edition provides support for:
- WebSphere MQ Workflow by exporting in FDL
- WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation by exporting in BPEL
- Rational XDE through UML 1.4 export
WebSphere Business Integration Modeler Entry Edition
The WebSphere Business Integration Modeler Entry Edition is a low-cost entry edition providing basic modeling to capture data. The Entry Edition is for enterprise departments and individual users who do not require the full capabilities of the IBM WebSphere Business Integration Modeler Advanced Edition. The Entry Edition is used for modeling, validation, and documentation. All three user profiles (basic, intermediate, and advanced) are available in the Entry Edition. Once the models are entered, the validation rules still apply, however, to utilize the simulation engine and analysis, the Advanced Edition is needed. The reporting tool and the complete set of static documentation reports are available in this entry release. The models can be captured, validated, and documented in this version. The advanced version is needed to run simulation and export to the multiple code generation tools. This entry edition provides an easy-to-use tool at an affordable price.

Statement of direction
IBM WebSphere Business Integration Modeler V5.1 is available supporting WebSphere Studio Application Developer Integration Edition V5.1 and WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation V5.1, as forecasted in the Server Foundation announcement on April 6, 2004.
On July 14, 2004, IBM stated an intent to acquire Alphablox and to utilize the Alphablox product technology within WebSphere Business Integration Monitor. This will enhance the analysis capabilities of WebSphere Business Integration Monitor, as well as the visualization, reporting, and presentation capabilities. Business managers will be able to better understand the trends in business operations set against their key performance indicators, and "drill down" to understand cause and effect. This will, therefore, significantly enhance the ability for companies and IBM partners to deliver business performance management projects.
IBM intends to deliver these enhanced capabilities, as well as support for WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation V5.1, in WebSphere Business Integration Monitor in the first half of 2005.
All statements regarding IBM's plans, directions, and intent are subject to change or withdrawal
without notice.

IBM Electronic Services
IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support on the IBM eServer®. You should benefit from greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent.
IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. By using the news page, it enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
