The IBM Rational® Functional Tester Extension for Terminal-based Applications is an Eclipse plug-in designed as a terminal emulator for hosting 3270 (zSeries®) and 5250 (iSeries™) terminal-based applications.
Built for Rational Functional Tester for Java™ and Web, an advanced automated functional and regression testing tool, this extension allows teams to automate the testing of terminal-based applications with the same tool used to test Java and Web-based applications.
This new capability contrasts traditional methods for testing COBOL, CICS®, PL/1, and all other zSeries and iSeries terminal-based applications. Teams traditionally performed function and usability tests manually or through tools different from those used to test client/server applications. These methods required teams to support parallel testing efforts where each effort had its own set of test assets, test methods, and test processes.
With the new IBM Rational Functional Tester Extension for Terminal-based Applications, teams can use the same tool for all of their testing needs, simplifying their testing workflow and asset management requirements. Also, by having access to the advanced capabilities of Rational Functional Tester, teams can increase the number and quality of their tests in the same time required by their more manual testing methods.
This improvement in process and productivity is supplemented by Rational Functional Tester's
integration and relationship with the other tools in Rational's Team Unifying Platform — including
Rational RequisitePro®, Rational ClearQuest® and Rational TestManager — facilitating the team
communication and asset-focused traceability required to ensure the timely completion of
quality-driven development projects.

The IBM Publications Notification System (PNS)
PNS enables subscribers to set up profiles of interest by order number/product number. PNS subscribers automatically receive e-mail notifications of all new publications defined in their profiles. These may then be ordered/downloaded from the Publications Center.

This fee service enhances customer productivity, with voice and electronic access into IBM support organizations.
