| Description |
Backup Recovery and Media Services for iSeries (BRMS) (5722-BR1)
-
New backup items within backup control groups give you better control in managing the backups of
your Integrated File System (IFS) objects when you are also running online Lotus server backups.
New lists help you define items to be omitted from the IFS saves in addition to omitted Lotus online data.
- Lotus online incremental backup is updated. Lotus database files that cannot be saved incrementally (such as new databases) are saved using a full online backup.
- You can now save and restore objects saved with pending transactions. You can now save journaled objects using save-while-active without waiting for a transaction boundary (pending transaction). The restoration of objects saved with pending transactions allows for automatic recovery of associated journals, journal receivers, and application or removal of journal changes to a point in time.
- BRMS duplication of media is enhanced to enable you to use the BRMS network feature to offload the duplication task to another system in the BRMS network.
- An Expire media set volumes (EXPSETMED) parameter is added to the Start Expiration for BRM (STREXPBRM) and Start Maintenance for BRM (STRMNTBRM) commands to enable an IBM patented function for expiring the volumes in a set that contains no active files. You can return these volumes to the scratch pool sooner, which reduces the number of active volumes you need to maintain.
- System alias name support is added to the BRMS Networking feature. Aliases allow you to define a system name other than the default local name for communicating with systems in the BRMS network.
- TCP/IP support now allows you to specify interfaces you want started while in restricted state to resolve scratch volume allocation requests from the centralized media pool.
- The default value of the audit system media (AUDSYSMED) parameter is changed to *NONE and the refree auto-retrieved objects (REFREE) parameter on the start maintenance for BRM (STRMNTBRM) command allows you to better control these maintenance actions. Running these actions periodically rather than daily improves the maintenance of BRMS.
- The move media using BRM (MOVMEDBRM) command is enhanced to allow the moved volume information to be placed in an outfile so that it can be processed programmatically.
- Start backup using BRM (STRBKUBRM) has a new option that allows you to submit a restricted state backup to batch in the controlling subsystem, bypassing the need to start the BRMS console monitor on the system console session. A new OMITS parameter enables you to indicate to BRMS whether to process or ignore omitted items without modifying the control group.
- BRMS backup and saved history is updated to allow for saving and restoring saved spooled file from output queues residing on auxiliary storage pool devices.
- BRMS now ships four new programs that you can use when defining BRMS as the media management system for Tivoli Storage Manager Server for 0S/400 PASE. These programs use BRMS to perform mounts, dismounts, expire, and delete operations on behalf of this TSM server.
-
BRMS continues to enhance the system recovery report by re-introducing step numbering, more detailed
descriptions of recovery tasks, and the inclusion of auxiliary storage pool devices saved on other
systems.
The *RESUME option is enhanced to preserve your remaining recovery items through a sign-off or across an IPL.
- The storage required for the media information of saved IFS objects is significantly reduced. The smaller QUSRBRM library translates to faster saves of the IBM libraries and saves of the BRMS media information, especially if you have saved lots of IFS objects and maintain object detail.
- The BRMS install process now defers QUSRBRM updates until after the install is complete. This results in reduced install times for your software upgrades and allows you to better plan for the BRMS software update.
- BRMS incremental backup now uses better reference date management to eliminate use of older reference dates no more redundant saves of library objects.
-
BRMS iSeries Navigator client enhancements include:
- A reclaim wizard is available to assist you in copying the active files on fragmented media to new media so you can reduce your media inventory and possibly minimize your media purchases.
- An enhanced search capability within the backup history include panel makes finding objects in the backup history easier. For example, searches for objects can scan all saved libraries or all saved directories.
- Display of the BRMS log is enhanced to support improved search and sorting of the log entries.
- New backup policy controls allow you to optionally stop and restart Lotus or TCP/IP servers or run maintenance when the backup completes.
- Backup policy omit support was added so you can define omits of libraries, library objects, or folders for individual backup policies.
- Improved BRMS network management controls added to the global properties.
- Improved TSM client controls added to the global properties.
- The restore wizard now includes restores of saved printer output and archived objects.
- New tasks allow you to create HTML-based reports of your backup policies, move policies, and media.
- Accessibility improved for almost all of the BRMS iSeries Navigator client panels and dialogs.
For detailed information on the BRMS iSeries Navigator client, refer to the iSeries Information Center, or download and review the BRMS GUI Student Guide from
BRMS function is enhanced on an on-going basis. Enhancements between scheduled software releases are provided by PTF. Periodically review the BRMS Web site to learn of any new functions that might improve your backup and recovery strategy. Refer to
CICS® Transaction Server For iSeries (5722-DFH)
Enhancements:
- Support is added to the CRTCICSCBL command to provide access to the WebSphere Development Studio ILE COBOL compiler for creating CICS COBOL programs. CICS application programmers can access the features of ILE COBOL environment when executing CICS programs.
- The CRTCICSCBL command now provides additional parameters that correspond to the CRTCBLMOD and CRTBNDCBL commands and now invokes those commands as appropriate to create the CICS COBOL program.
DB2 Universal Database Extenders for iSeries V8 (5722-DE1)
DB2 UDB XML Extender and DB2 UDB Text Extender help you utilize your iSeries server to manage your critical business information in DB2 databases to engage in business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-customer (B2C) solutions in the next generation of e-business.
You can combine structured XML information with traditional relational data. You can choose whether to store entire XML documents in DB2 as an XML Character Large Object (XMLCLOB), or you can map the XML content as traditional data in relational tables. The DB2 UDB XML Extender enables powerful searches for rich data types of XML element or attribute values, even for nontraditional XML data types.
The DB2 UDB XML Extender for iSeries, for the most part, provides the same function as on other DB2 platforms. The exceptions are:
- MQSeries® Stored Procedures
- Extensible stylesheet language transformation (XSLT) UDFs
The DB2 UDB Text Extender provides full-text search through a set of UDFs. These extend the SQL query language by providing additional function. It is easy to combine full-text search with parametric search. Text search capabilities depend on index type chosen.
The Text Extender for iSeries provides the same function as on other DB2 platforms with the following differences:
- It is not possible to define referential constraints on tables that are enabled for text search. Text Extender does not support automatic index update for delete of records in a table with defined referential constraints. However, tables containing referential constraints can be enabled for text search.
- The workstation command GET ENVIRONMENT to retrieve the setting of the Text Extender environment variables is not required and not supported on the iSeries.
- With structured documents, it is not possible to index and search on attribute sections (DATE, TIME, FLOAT, INTEGER).
- No Datalink support.
- Text preparation and administration commands for the client must be invoked at the database server itself.
Version 8
DB2 UDB XML Extender enhancements:
- Full schema support.
- Support for decomposing of documents that contain non-unique attribute and element names.
- Several UDFs have a new encoding parameter that allows encoding specification of the source or destination file.
- XML Extender uses the XML Parser delivered in the XML Toolkit for iSeries (5733-XT1). This product must be installed before using XML Extender for iSeries on V5R3.

This may make it easier to distribute SSL support out to remote PCs.
iSeries Access for Web
-
iSeries Access for Web is a Java application that runs in a Web application server (for example,
WebSphere Application Server or Apache Software Foundation ASF Tomcat) on V5R2, or later, iSeries
servers. End users access its functions by starting their browser and connecting to an iSeries
server. iSeries Access for Web can now be used with the Mozilla browser, as well as Internet
Explorer and Netscape, to enable users on desktop operating systems such as Windows, UNIX®, Linux,
and Macintosh to access iSeries resources. It provides a variety of functions, such as 5250
emulation, and access to iSeries printers, printer output, database, jobs, job queues, and message
queues. It enables you to run OS/400 CL batch commands without using a 5250 emulation session.
Enhancements in this V5R3 release include:
- The 5250 emulator, database, command, file, print, and single sign-on functions have portlet versions that integrate into the WebSphere Portal-Express and Express Plus for Multiplatforms V5.02. Some functions in iSeries Access for Web also can be used in this environment as IFrame portlets.
-
The 5250 emulator now includes preferences and policy functions so it can be fully customized for
end users by the iSeries administrator. Administrators can now create shortcuts to session
configurations and macro definitions for users or groups, and can specify an initial macro to play
immediately after a session is started. Users can now:
- Share an active session with other users and groups while the user who starts the session maintains full control
- Position their cursor at an exact location within a field
- New PDF Printer and PDF Printer Output tabs are added. Conversion of iSeries printer output (AFPDS or SCS) is automatically done when a spooled file is routed to a printer output device. The interfaces for working with printer output, Internet printers, and Internet printer shares are consolidated and simplified.
- The SQL Database wizard is enhanced to build requests that can prompt the user for one or more condition values when the request is run. Users can also use Run SQL to manually create statements with parameter markers. The Run SQL and Copy Data to Table functions now additionally support the Microsoft Excel XML format the XML spreadsheet format used by Microsoft Excel 2002. Files created with the new iSeries Access for Windows Data Transfer file format can also be imported into iSeries Access for Web.
- Extract Server Data is a new feature used to retrieve information about objects on the iSeries server and store those results in a database table where those results can be retrieved in a variety of ways. Object-specific information can also be retrieved for the following object types: directory entries, messages, software fixes, software products, system pool, and user profiles.
- The Files function for working with data in the IFS is enhanced to display the directory contents in the current browser window, and the name, size, type, and modified column headers can now be sorted. If the user has the appropriate OS/400 authority, the browse files and browse NetServer file share functions can be edited (for example, authority, change object owner, change primary group for object, change authorization list for object, and perform zip and unzip operations).
- A new message function sends break messages to iSeries workstations, and Lotus Sametime announcements can be sent to iSeries Access for Web Sametime users.
- The My Folder function, which enables users to store results of commands and PDF output in their own and other iSeries Access for Web users' folders, has two new actions for folder items: "Copy" allows one user to copy folder items to another user's personal folder, and "Copy To File" allows the user to copy the contents of the folder item to a file in the IFS. For iSeries administrators, policies can control the maximum number of items or amount of disk space allowed for a user's personal folder.Users are notified when the number of items or total size reaches a percentage of the maximum items allowed. Notifications can now be sent to a Lotus Sametime user in addition to a configured e-mail address.
- A new Download functional category is available for file distribution. A downloadable file can be stored on the iSeries server and made available for distribution through iSeries Access for Web, and a set of management functions are provided for updating and controlling access to the downloadable files. The new iSeries Access for Linux product is provided as a downloadable file, and administrators can create other downloadable files (for example, a tailored version of the iSeries Access for Windows product for easy distribution to Windows users).
- New functions are available under "Other." For example, a new Bookmark utility can be used to create a bookmark file with entries for each link in the iSeries Access for Web navigation tabs. The Connection pool menu item displays the current status of the connection pool and enables the administrator to directly customize the connection pool settings.
- The Customize function allows easier administration for restricting access to functional categories, and has new policies to restrict users to a category of functions without the need to deny each of the functions individually. The Customize interface now has options to view all of the current policy settings for a user or group profile in a report view and to generate a printer-friendly link so it can be sent to a printer.
WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services Limited Edition (HATS LE) V5
- HATS LE enables users to access their 5250 applications from a browser without requiring the iSeries IT teams to tediously reface their applications, as HATS LE transforms screens into HTML using a few simple rules predefined by an iSeries administrator. HATS LE configuration now enables users to connect to other iSeries servers from a single page and to more easily create new templates based on default templates provided.
- A key function of the HATS LE emulator is that it recognizes components on the screen (such as function keys and subfiles) and renders those components as HTML "widgets" (such as buttons and links). The default rendering, plus the components and widgets, are rewritten, resulting in more reliable recognition and rendering of a larger number of host screens and faster performance.
- Enhanced browser support includes Internet Explorer 5.2.3 and 5.5, Netscape 6.2 and 7.0, Mozilla 1.2.1, Opera 5.0, Konqueror 3.1, and Safari 1.0. To learn the desktop operating system level required for a browser version, and to learn the level of keyboard support provided by a browser, refer to
-
HATS LE supports all national languages and code pages at runtime,
including DBCS and Bi-directional (BIDI), and Unicode characters can be
displayed and used as input. The administrator panels are translated
into the following languages and shipped with HATS LE:
- English

XML is widely touted as a solution to the problem of information exchange between applications and within B2B environments. It is simple, extensible, and non-proprietary. XML parser APIs assist in the creation, navigation, or modification of XML document content.
XML Toolkit for iSeries (5733-XT1) also assists in the general industry movement toward XML by providing an interface to an XML parser for procedural language use, such as RPG, C, or COBOL, (common application language choices on iSeries). This refresh of the XML Toolkit for iSeries provides V5, V5R2, and V5R3 of the XML parser.
A new addition to the XML Toolkit is the XSLT transformer to create XSL stylesheets to transform XML documents from one type to another (for example, XML or HTML).
Parsers and Transformer : The XML parsers and transformer for C++ and procedural language are based on cross-platform, Apache open-source code compliant with W3C XML industry standards.
The latest refresh of XML Toolkit for iSeries adds additional support and is consistent with the Apache Software Foundation's Xerces-C++ 2.3 as well as support for Xalan-C++ 1.6.

An ePoE will be created for new software orders for which entitlement is purchased for V5R1/2/3. Examples of such iSeries orders for entitlement record creation are:
- Initial software program purchase
- Additional user or processor purchase
- The move to a higher level processor tier
Customers who want to access their software ePoE data records must first register with IBM at the following Web site
After a Web ID is obtained via IBM Registration, customers can then access their software ePoE data records at
ePoE record data can be accessed to view or print for local use, transfer to another system within the enterprise, or update customer information such as hardware serial number on which the entitlement is installed. Note that for V5R1 or V5R2 products purchased prior to June 11, 2004, the capability to transfer those products outside the enterprise will continue to require a hard copy PoE, and for those purchased after June 11, 2004, an ePoE will be available. All V5R3 entitlement records will be via ePoE only.
Program support: Twelve months' notice will be provided prior to termination of support.
Transferability: To improve consistency in terms and conditions for IBM SW programs, new terms and conditions regarding program transferability apply to the following list of products.
Specifically, V5R3 of these programs is not transferable outside of your Enterprise. An enterprise is any legal entity (including, without limitation, an individual, a partnership or a corporation) and its subsidiaries. A subsidiary is any legal entity, during the time that more than 50% of its voting stock, or if no voting stock, decision-making power, is owned or controlled, directly or indirectly, by the enterprise.
You may still move these programs to another machine within your enterprise. Moving a program to another machine does not change your license entitlement but may result in additional charges if additional license entitlements (such as users, processors, or tier) are needed. For example, if a program for which you have license entitlement at the P10 level is moved to a machine in the P20 SW tier, then a P10 to P20 upgrade entitlement must be acquired.
If any of these programs are installed on a machine sold to another party, they must be removed from the machine.
