| Description |
IBM Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing (Sametime) V6.5.1 is IBM's worldwide market leading real-time collaboration offering. Over 10 million people use it every day to gain access and share information, virtually bring together geographically dispersed team members, enabling them to make faster decisions. Built from its very beginning to be a tool for e-business, Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing is an extremely robust and manageable offering with security features.
IBM Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing is based on three simple, yet powerful, concepts:
- Presence awareness. Seeing, in advance, whether a person, or application, is available.
- Conversation. The exchange of text-based information (generally known as "instant messaging") as well as audio/video.
- Object sharing. Desktop and application sharing and whiteboarding, generally known as "Web conferencing."
Key features:
- Authentication and access control. Authenticate users when they log on. Protect Web conferences with a password and limit access to only the individuals who receive invitations.
- Instant messaging gateway. Support Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIMPLE) for the Lotus Instant Messaging Gateway. Permit the secure exchange of real-time information with users based on their e-mail addresses, increasing reach to the extended value chain.
- Scalability. Enable hundreds of people to view the same presentation or Web application or to engage in a whiteboard session. Link multiple servers to increase scalability and reduce traffic across WANs. As an option, optimize Web conference load balancing and fail-over with Lotus EMS software.
- Security, privacy, and chat logging. Take advantage of security features. Set instant messaging preferences to prevent or discourage interruptions. Encrypt Web conference content and data to restrict meeting content to authorized viewers only. Save instant messaging conversations to a text file to view at a later time. And, with APIs, build server-based chat logging solutions that may be useful in responding to certain regulatory requirements.
- Directory support. Use existing directories like IBM Lotus Domino or any Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory to control exactly who can access the environment. Create and manage each directory on the fly.
- Proxy support and firewalls. From the network's demilitarized zone (DMZ), let external users access the server without compromising network security. HTTP tunneling on port 80 enables clients with restrictive firewalls, operating in corporate networks, to connect to a server over the Internet. Client-side support for proxies includes HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5.
- Server management. Use the browser-based interface to set up new users, administer security and access privileges, monitor activity levels, and analyze usage trends. Easily broadcast messages with security in or across your entire network.
Potential business benefits:
- Improve access to people and information
- Virtually bring together geographically dispersed team members
- Help increase individual and team productivity
- Help improve customer responsiveness
- Enable faster, more informed decision-making
- Reduce the need for discretionary business travel

| IBM Electronic Services |
IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put
you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution
that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support on
the IBM . You should benefit
from greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and pre-emptive monitoring. IBM
Electronic Services is comprised of two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic
Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent.
IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. By using the news page, it enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM system. It is designed to
proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic
customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware
error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service
agreement or within the IBM Warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware
problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service
that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected
through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they
are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
