| Overview |
The high-powered IBM Grid Toolbox V3 for Linux on iSeries and pSeries®, V1.1 can assist enterprises that deploy, manage, and control grid computing and developers who create products that assist in managing and deploying grids.
This grid-enabling toolkit contains accepted, standardized development code approved by the Global Grid Forum as part of the Globus Toolkit, plus an added database and run-time environment.
Grid Toolbox V3, available on IBM iSeries and pSeries servers running SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 8, delivers an
innovative set of grid services built with the Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA). OGSA is an
open set of standards and protocols that enable communication across heterogeneous, geographically
dispersed environments.
Sample code is included that shows developers how to implement a grid and which types of applications can be dispatched to a grid.
Comprehensive technical documentation is provided complete with how-to's, examples, tutorials, and reference information all in a single easy-to-navigate location.

| Description |
IBM Grid Toolbox V3 for Linux is a licensed program based on open standards that can enable rapid deployment and integration of business applications and processes in a grid. With grid computing, customers can virtualize entire data centers, sharing and managing distributed computing resources as if these resources were a single, unified computing instance.
IBM provides samples to show developers how to implement a grid and which types of applications can be dispatched to a grid. IBM Grid Toolbox includes object code for multiple IBM platforms that has been tested on the applicable IBM servers.
IBM Grid Toolbox V3 includes certain integrated IBM middleware, including an integrated run-time environment and an IBM data management solution for reliability and scalability.
User-centered, comprehensive technical documentation helps guide grid developers and administrators with how-to's, examples, tutorials, and reference information all in a single easy-to-navigate location.
Additionally, IBM Grid Toolbox V3 for Linux, V1.1 can offer:
- A user-friendly installation process.
- Integrated run-time environment, which includes the embedded version of WebSphere® Application Server Express V5.0.2.
- A Java-based user interface to simplify management across platforms. IBM Grid Services Manager allows you to manage grid services that have been deployed to the integrated runtime. These services are based on the Open Grid Services Infrastructure (OGSI) standards, even those not created using the IBM Grid Toolbox V3.
Note: Middleware provided with IBM Grid Toolbox V3 supports that product only and cannot be used to host or deploy user-built applications.

Direct customer support: The IBM Grid Toolbox for Linux on iSeries and pSeries is offered with warranty coverage as well as fee-based options for a complete support package. The warranty terms entitle license holders access to information about product fixes, Program Temporary Fixes (PTFs), and access to electronically download any available product PTF on the components covered.
IBM Grid Toolbox for Linux product PTFs will be available from an ibm.com site.
Refer to the License Information (LI) and README files included with the product for further details on component coverages.
Customer responsibilities: IBM will offer support for the IBM Grid Toolbox V3 for Linux on iSeries or pSeries via a special bid contract. Contact the IBM ITS Sales organization in your country for options and details.
Packaging: IBM Grid Toolbox V3 for Linux, V1.1 is distributed on a single CD-ROM (LCD4-7459). The LI is provided with the product in softcopy. Publications are not shipped on the product media but are available online.
Security, auditability, and control
IBM Grid Toolbox V3 uses the security and audit capability features of the systems in which it is installed.
The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features,
administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication
facilities.
