| Description |
Designated Tivoli Storage products, currently available through Passport Advantage, are now also available through AAS. The new PID numbers (5608-xxx) for the products in AAS are closely modeled after the Passport Advantage PID numbers (5698-xxx). For example, the Passport Advantage PID 5698-SRM is 5608-SRM in AAS. (The one exception to this pattern is Tivoli Storage Manager for Data Retention, which has PID 5724-H51 in Passport Advantage, and 5608-TDR in AAS.) The products are the same, although the PID numbers are different, providing a choice of ordering systems.
Regardless of which ordering system is used (AAS or Passport Advantage), the software and associated documentation will be provided using the existing Passport Advantage packages, which will reflect the Passport Advantage PID numbers. Support, however, will be provided through the existing support structure in place in the system where the order is placed, either AAS or Passport Advantage.

Tivoli Environment-Managed Licensing Model
In 2000, Tivoli introduced its Environment-Managed Licensing Model. The unique element of this model is that pricing and licensing is based on what is managed (for example, clients, servers, and network devices), not how the customer chooses to implement the technical facets of a Tivoli solution (for example, management servers, gateways, and endpoints). With this announcement, Tivoli is not changing the fundamentals of this offering, but refining some of the definitions and creating a more solution-oriented offering structure.
Most IBM Tivoli products are priced on the Environment-Managed Licensing Model. For these products, management capability for a certain sized environment is acquired for each Tivoli discipline required. The customer is free to implement any of the Tivoli Enterprise software components (Tivoli Management Region servers, gateways, or endpoints) in any quantity to best manage within the environment for which the discipline was acquired without cost implications. As architecture changes, the customer's implementation can be altered, as needed, without necessarily affecting the licensing for the products acquired. This represents a significant change from the typical systems management licensing models that are based on purchasing the specific components and licensing them to specific systems.
In this model, a server is defined by its use in the environment, not its role in a Tivoli solution. Thus, all servers in an environment are priced as servers, offering the flexibility to serve Tivoli applications from any system in the enterprise without any change in cost. Further, these servers are licensed and priced corresponding to each installed processor, so as to better correlate cost to value while offering a simple, scalable solution. In addition to traditional clients, other devices can be managed in a server/device model, including personal digital assistants (PDAs), point-of-sale terminals (tills, cash registers), Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), and appliances. In the Environment-Managed Model, only those systems or devices managed require licensing.
The server definition has been updated since Value-Based Pricing was introduced in February 2000 to recognize the convergence of RISC/UNIX® and Microsoft Windows/Intel technologies, to simplify the customer's licensing requirements, and to provide a smoother, more scalable model. Servers are licensed and priced on a per-installed-processor basis. The pricing and licensing does not differentiate between distributed server platforms or operating systems, thus it is consistent for all distributed servers. For some products, this platform neutrality extends to zSeries® and other host servers as well.
For servers capable of physical partitioning, the licensing is based on the number of processors in the partition for the application being managed. Note that this applies only to fixed partitions, not variable workload. This partitioning technique is the approach used with systems which have either multiple cards or multiple frames, each of which can be configured independently. For systems with virtual or logical partitions, licensing is required for all processors in the server. For clustered environments, the licensing is determined by the cumulative number of installed processors in each server in the cluster.
Terminology definitions
Application server
An application server is a computer system that provides services to one or more clients, servers, or other devices over a network and is defined by its use within the Tivoli application.
Client
A client is a computer system or process that requests a service of another computer system that is typically referred to as a server. Multiple clients may share access to a common server. A client has some processing capability or is programmable to allow a user to do work. Examples include notebook computers, desktop computers, deskside computers, and technical workstations. For Tivoli products which manage non-client/non-server devices (such as appliances, networking devices, PDAs, or similar devices), the client definition applies to those devices also.
Cluster
A group of distributed servers operated as a single image, generally running serially. Licensing is required for the cumulative number of processors installed in the cluster of servers. For example, a cluster with 4 servers, each with 4 processors installed, would require licensing for 16 processors.
Device
A device is any non-client, non-server part of a network managed by a Tivoli application including, but not limited to, PDAs and other pervasive devices.
Client device
A client device is a computer system that requests a service of another computer system that is typically referred to as a server. Multiple client devices may share access to a common server. A client device has some processing capability or is programmable to allow a user to do work. Examples include, but are not limited to, notebook computers, desktop computers, deskside computers, technical workstations, appliances, PDAs, ATMs, Point-of-Sale Terminals (POSs, tills, and cash registers), and kiosks.
Environment-Managed Licensing Model
The Environment-Managed Licensing Model is used to describe the Tivoli pricing offering that separates licensing from architecture. In the Environment-Managed model, the price is based on what is managed rather than the more traditional approach of pricing based on the number and type of product component. Thus, a server is defined by its use in the customer's environment, not by its use within a Tivoli application. For example, all servers (including, but not limited to, file servers, print servers, and application servers) monitored with IBM Tivoli Monitoring require processor licensing sufficient for those servers. Some products, such as IBM Tivoli Configuration Manager, manage not only servers, but also clients and other devices. Each device or class of device requires licensing.
Physical partitions
For servers capable of physical partitioning, the licensing is based on the number of processors in the partition for the application being managed. Note that this only applies to fixed partitions, not variable workload.
Processor
In a computer, a functional unit that interprets and executes instructions. A processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and an arithmetic and logic unit. For IBM Tivoli products, only processors installed in servers require licensing. Refer to each product for details.
Registered user
A registered user is defined as anyone who is authorized to access a Tivoli program.
Server
A server is a computer system that provides services to one or more clients and/or other devices over a network. Examples include, but are not limited to, file servers, print servers, mail servers, database servers, application servers, and Web servers.
A server is defined by its use in the customer's environment, not by its use within a Tivoli application. Server licensing is based on the number of processors installed.
For distributed servers in a clustered environment, licensing is required for the cumulative number of processors installed in the servers in the cluster.
The pricing for a server is based on the number of processors installed in that server.
Refer to the License Information documents for product-specific extensions to this basic definition. These documents are packaged with all IBM Tivoli products and are also available from
Standby or backup systems
For programs running or resident on backup machines, IBM defines three types of situations: cold, warm, and hot. In the cold and warm situations, licensing of the backup copy is normally not required and no additional charge applies. In a "hot" backup situation, the customer needs license authorizations sufficient for that server. All programs running in backup mode must be under the customer's control, even if running at another enterprise's location.
As a practice, the following are definitions and allowable actions concerning the copy of the program used for backup purposes:
-
Cold
A copy of the program may be stored for backup purposes on a machine as long as the program has not been started.
-
Warm
A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine and is started, but is "idling," and is not doing any work of any kind. Licensing is not required for this system.
-
Hot
A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine, is started, and is doing work. However, this program must be ordered, and licensing is required for this system.
"Doing work" includes, for example, production, development, program maintenance, and testing. It also could include other activities such as mirroring of transactions, updating of files, synchronization of programs, data, or other resources (for example, active linking with another machine, program, database, or other resource, and so on), or any activity or configurations that would allow an active hot switch or other synchronized switch over between programs, databases, or other resources to occur.

Software Maintenance: Software Maintenance is included with each product authorization acquired. Software Maintenance provides an easy and effective way by which you have access, during the coverage period, to eligible new versions and releases and to remote technical support for your covered products.
The technical support included in Software Maintenance provides remote support during normal business hours in your country or location as well as access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for mission-critical (Severity 1) problems.
With Software Maintenance, you receive the following technical support benefits:
- Telephone access and/or electronic access via the Web to an IBM Customer Support Center.
- Support for routine, short duration, installation and usage (how-to) questions and code-related problems.
- Support during normal country business hours, namely prime shift hours, Monday through Friday, excluding national or statutory holidays.
- Support for mission-critical (Severity 1) problems during non-prime shift hours, namely all hours outside normal country business hours including national and/or statutory holidays.
- Two hour response time objective during prime shift for voice and electronic submission. The response objective for critical/emergency problems during offshift is also two hours.
- Access to escalation management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Software Maintenance renewals offer you favorable pricing to continue your coverage without interruption. When Software Maintenance is acquired, the coverage period for Software Maintenance is always up to the anniversary date specified in the acquisition.
Refer to the IBM Software Maintenance Handbook for specific terms relating to, and a more complete description of, technical support provided through Software Maintenance.
