| Overview |
Enterprises that deploy, manage, and control grid computing and developers who create products that assist in managing and deploying grids have a new, high-powered tool to assist them. IBM Grid Toolbox V3 for Linux on xSeries®, available on xSeries servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 2.1 or SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8, delivers an innovative set of grid services built with the Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA). OGSA is an open set of standards and protocols that enable communication across heterogeneous, geographically dispersed environments.
IBM Grid Toolbox V3 for Linux on xSeries is a licensed program that can enable rapid deployment and integration of business applications and processes in a grid.
With grid computing, you can virtualize entire data centers, sharing and managing distributed computing resources as if these resources were a single, unified computing instance.
IBM provides samples, superior to those available in Globus Toolkit, to show developers how to implement a grid and which types of applications can be dispatched to a grid. IBM Grid Toolbox includes object code for multiple IBM platforms that has been tested on the applicable IBM servers.
IBM Grid Toolbox V3 for Linux on xSeries includes certain integrated IBM middleware that provides an integrated run-time environment, and an IBM data management solution for reliability and scalability.
User-centered, comprehensive technical documentation helps guide grid developers and administrators with how-to's, examples, tutorials, and reference information all in a single, easy-to-navigate location.
Additionally, IBM Grid Toolbox V3 for Linux on xSeries offers:
- Integrated run-time environment, which includes the embedded version of WebSphere® Application Server Express V5.0.2.
- Integrated database technologies from IBM Cloudscape V5.1 for storing and using working grid code.
- A Java-based user interface to simplify management across platforms. IBM Grid Services Manager allows you to manage grid services based on the Open Grid Services Infrastructure (OGSI) standards, even those not created using IBM Grid Toolbox V3 for Linux on xSeries.
- A toolbox written to open standards, which includes compiled versions of open source code.
- A user-friendly installation process.
Note:
Middleware provided with IBM Grid Toolbox V3 supports that product only and cannot be used to host
or deploy user-built applications.
