Software Announcement 203-272 October 14, 2003 IBM WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer for Multiplatforms V3.1 can help accelerate your on demand development effortsAt a glanceWebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer V3.1 provides:
For ordering, contact: Your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or the Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL (Reference: LE001). OverviewIBM WebSphere® Studio Asset Analyzer for Multiplatforms V3.1 provides functions for analysts and developers to understand enterprise assets, enhance them, and enable their enterprise applications for their on demand environment. Working applications can be an IS organization's biggest asset. Reusing application constructs helps accelerate application development through the life cycle by requiring less new code and reusing previously tested code. WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer assists IT personnel with the maintenance and extension of existing assets through impact analysis, connector building assistance, and application understanding. It helps enterprise customers modernize their existing enterprise assets and skills for on demand development by providing knowledge about their static environment (finding and reusing application code and the componentry that connects that code) and their dynamic environment (understanding what code is executing in runtime environments). WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer can help IT customers build and deploy mixed-workload on demand applications. V3.1 provides new enhancements, including:
DescriptionWhen using WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer your first step is to scan the artifacts (such as source code (Java, COBOL, and so on), copybooks, CICS® regions, IBM subsystems, Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs), Windows-based WebSphere Application Server V4 systems, and JCL) that you want WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer to know about. These artifacts can reside in distributed libraries (such as file systems, Rational® ClearCase®, or WebDav Server), or in PDS libraries. Support for other S/390 library systems is provided via an exit. After collection, the tool stores information about the artifacts in a database that can be shared across development teams and the enterprise. As your development teams change the artifacts through normal maintenance, the information can continue to be updated. The tool does not store the actual code, but you can view the source and information about the source while in WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer. Through a Web browser, you have easy access to useful information about core assets. WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer V3.1 provides the following enhancements:
WebSphere Application Server V5 support: The WebSphere Application Server prerequisite has been expanded to include WebSphere Application Server on either z/OS or Windows NT/2000/XP. WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer V3 also supports the latest WebSphere Application Server release, V5. The following enhancements have been added:
Searchable text field associated with artifacts: Several of the artifacts that have metadata maintained within WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer will have an additional set of fields associated with them for annotation purposes. Each field represents descriptive text classified as either business purpose, comments, or general. The fields are 240 characters in length and allow you to annotate the artifacts in a free text manner. The fields are searchable across all classifications and are optional. Inventory data from the DB2 system catalog: Previously, WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer captured only a minimum set of reference information from a small set of EXEC SQL statements when encountered directly in application source programs. This information was limited to tables, columns, and cursors. V3.1 adds inventory data from the DB2 system catalog, establishes relationships between the application program references and the DB2 inventory, and provides DB2 components as additional candidates to be considered when tracing for change impact. Support for Views is added that gives explicit visibility to the tables that comprise a view so that, in addition to identifying the view as impacted, we will also be able to identify the tables that make up the view as impacted. Support for Stored Procedures is added to recognize the declaration and invocation of SQL CALLs in application programs and identify the procedure and any data utilized in the calling parameters when impacted. WebSphere MQ support: WebSphere MQ interfaces exist in the form of APIs within several source languages. These APIs look like standard CALL statements, but imply a messaging system architecture for a given application. Previous versions of WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer did not highlight the use of MQ in application programs and only recognized static calls to MQ found in COBOL and PL/I application source, and inventoried them as control transfers. V3.1 will highlight the message queueing by including analysis support for dynamic calls to MQ, discover the queue name, identify the queue as a specific type of data store (MQQUEUE), indicate the queue when impacted, identify the queue buffer data element as an I/O data record, and indicate the queue buffer when impacted. DB2 V7 support: V3.1 includes support for DB2 V7 syntax.
Improvements to distributed artifact support:
WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer V3.1 can crawl the WebSphere Application Server V4 Advanced
Edition runtime environment. The metadata collected is inserted into the WebSphere Studio Asset
Analyzer V3.1 database. This helps developers understand the topology and application structure of
the running Web application.
Value Unit based pricingValue Unit based pricing will help to align the prices of these products to the principle of the Parallel Sysplex® License Charge (PSLC) pricing curve which provides for a lower price per millions of service units per hour (MSU) for larger capacities. There is also be a price benefit when customers grow their capacity. Additional capacity will based on the number of Value Units (MSUs) the customer has already installed, for example, additional capacity will not be priced starting at the base with a higher price per unit, but on the capacity that is already installed. Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged/interchanged/aggregated with Value Units of another product. International Program License Agreement (IPLA) and Subscription and Support considerations IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to, an enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is the customer's responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license. Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

Ordering z/OS through the Internet ShopzSeries (formerly SHOPS390) provides an easy way to plan and order your z/OS ServerPac or CBPDO. It will analyze your current installation, determine the correct product migration, and present your new configuration based on z/OS. Additional products can also be added to your order (including determination of whether all product requisites are satisfied). ShopzSeries is available in the U.S. and several countries in Europe. In countries where ShopzSeries is not available yet, contact your IBM representative (or Business Partner) to handle your order via the traditional IBM ordering process. For more details and availability, visit the ShopzSeries Web site at: The products in this announcement have one charge unit Value Units. Value Units for IBM 9672 Processors will be based upon the full capacity of these systems. This is applicable to all S/390-based systems that are measured on MSU capacity. Information on MSU capacities can be found in the IBM System/370, System/390® and zSeries® Machine Exhibit , Z125-3901.
Value Units for IBM There will be a tool available that provides support for transforming the MSU-based capacities of S/390 systems to new Value Units by calculating the applicable number of Value Units for a given number of MSUs. Translation from MSUs to Value Units example
