The DB2 and IMS Tools business is a unique model in the industry. IBM continues to increase its
investment in tools to deliver comprehensive solutions that meet requirements faster than ever
before. Increased focus is on common interfaces, cross-tool integration, and testing with the same
criteria used for the databases.

Description
IBM first announced its entry into the database tools business in September 2000, delivering a
set of 34 tools for DB2 and IMS covering key system management functions, and committing to expand
this portfolio in response to customer requirements.
This announcement marks IBM's ninth database tools announcement in three years, proof of our ability
to offer a broad range of tools that support DB2 and IMS databases and to provide that support with
rapid availability for each new version or release of the databases.
To view the complete list of DB2 and IMS Tools' announcements visit:
IBM now offers more than 60 tools that feature common interfaces and
cross-tool integration, tested under the same configurations and
workloads as the databases they support. As we enter the era of
autonomic computing, DB2 and IMS Tools will become increasingly
self-managed in terms of dynamically monitoring and managing data, and
taking responsibility for decision making and initiating action.

IMS Database Control Suite for z/OS, V3 (5655-L08)
is a tool for the day-to-day management of the IMS database environment. It allows you to collect
and build the data required to generate JCL for database backup/recovery/reorganization management
using standard IMS utilities and IBM high-performance (HP) IMS tools.
Version 3 contains all of the functions of prior versions and provides significant performance
improvements and faster navigation throughout the product. The evolution of IMS Database Control
Suite into a control center for IMS database management and maintenance continues in this version.
Support for additional IBM IMS tools has been added, for example, support for the creation of IMS
Parallel Reorganization and for IMS Database Recovery Facility job streams. An ISPF interface is
now available for IMS Library Integrity Utilities, which in addition to the Integrity Checker and
Consistency Checker features, contains all of the features and functions of IMS Library Management
Utilities and IMS Advanced ACB Generator.
IMS Database Control Suite consists of:
-
A very powerful batch collection function that allows you to enter a DBDLIB. IMS Tools jobs will
then be built for all the logically related members in one pass. The jobs are stored in a
partitioned data set.
-
Database backup, recovery, reorganization, and monitoring will be supported for the following
databases:
-
Full Function (including indexes)
-

IBM Tools for Application Management
DB2 Data Archive Expert for z/OS (5655-I95)
facilitates moving DB2 data to archive tables or flat files.
Capabilities are provided that allow you to:
-
Archive related sets of information across multiple tables
-
Selectively identify data to archive and retrieve
-
Exploit less expensive media for your archived data
-
Access archived data with SQL
-
Access archived data with minimal or no application changes
-
Defer the delete portion of the archive process
-
Compress archived data with hardware data compression
This product delivers componentry that will be used by other DB2 tools. It has the ability to:
-
Define unforced referential constraints
-
Discover relationships between tables from definitional sources as well as access sources
-
Present recommendations on which objects to operate
DB2 Path Checker for z/OS, V2 (5697-I23)
helps you increase the stability of your DB2 environments and avoid painful and costly disruptions.
Path Checker can help you discover and correct unwanted and unexpected access path changes before
you get notified. These changes can occur as a result of binding when installing a new release of
DB2, applying service, or migrating an application from one system to another. Path Checker can
efficiently scan hundreds or thousands of SQL statements and identify just the statement or
statements that have experienced or will experience access path changes. It can seamlessly
integrate into your change control procedures for automated protection.
DB2 Path Checker for z/OS, V2 contains all the function formerly found in V1.2 plus the following
major enhancements:
-
OPTION MATCHSQL1 will match PLAN_TABLE rows based on SQL characteristics.
-
A new EXPLAIN command that explains a DBRM without attempting to compare to a previous access path.
The EXPLAIN command can optionally populate a plan table without doing a BIND. This feature is
especially valuable for those who want to do "What-if" planning without actually risking a BIND.
-
There are new verbs for COMPARE, REPORT, TEST-BEFORE, COMPARE-PREVIOUS, and REPORT-DIRECTORY.
-
Enhanced reporting of version identifiers is provided for access data.
-
OPTION MATCHCREATOR/NOMATCHCREATOR provides a comparison between environments where the creator id
for table and index will be different.
Recovery
IMS High Performance Change Accumulation Utility for z/OS, V1.2 (5655-F59)
provides the following enhancements:
-
Processing report improvements:
-
The status of associated address spaces is now consolidated to a single report
-
New error reporting messages extend diagnostic capabilities
-
Extended batch interface:
-
IMS HP Change Accumulation Utility can now be run using only JCL and control statement inputs. This
provides a simpler interface for automated job-scheduling facilities.
-
The ISPF/TSO user interface is no longer required for setup.
-
DBRC is optional.
-
Fast Path performance enhancements:
-
Elimination of the separately scheduled Fast Path sort address space
-
DASD utilization is reduced by eliminating the sort work space previously allocated to Fast Path
processing
-
VOLNUM and MAXLOGS parameters provide methods for limiting the number of scheduled input LOGS:
-
The VOLNUM parameter of DBRC GENJCL can now be processed
-
The IMS HP Change Accumulation Utility MAXLOGS parameter is a simpler alternative to the DBRC CATIME
parameter
-
Additional performance and usability features:
-
Parallel allocation and OPEN of Log files
-
Customization of PROCLIB members
Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act
The products in this announcement are capable as of their general availability, when used in
accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section
508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly
interoperates with it.
Value Unit-based pricing
Value Unit-based pricing will help to align the prices of these products to the principle of the
PSLC pricing curve, which provides for a lower price per millions of service units (MSU) per hour
for larger capacities.
There is also a price benefit when customers grow their capacity. Additional capacity will be based
on the number of Value Units (MSUs) the customer has already installed, for example, additional
capacity will not be priced starting at the base with a higher price per unit but on the capacity
that is already installed.
Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged/interchanged/aggregated with Value
Units of another product.
International Program License Agreement (IPLA) and Subscription and Support considerations
IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an
enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated
on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement (POE). It
is the customer's responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the
entitlement of the product license.
Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement.
Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made.

Ordering information
The products in this announcement have one charge unit: Value Unit.
Value Unit-based pricing will help to align the prices of these products to the principle of the
PSLC pricing curve, which delivers a lower price per MSU per hour for larger capacities.
There is also a price benefit when customers grow their capacity. Additional capacity will be based
on the number of Value Units (MSUs) the customer has already installed, for example, additional
capacity will not be priced starting at the base with a higher price per unit but on the capacity
that is already installed.
Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value
Units of another product.

Ordering example:
The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example.
If the customer has installed 1,500 MSUs, the applicable Value Units would be:
Translation from MSUs to Value Units
MSUs * Value Units/MSU = Value Units
Base 3 * 1.00 = 3.00
Tier A 42 * .45 = 18.90
Tier B 130 * .36 = 46.80
Tier C 140 * .27 = 37.80
Tier D 1,185 * .20 = 237.00
Total 1,500 343.50
When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer.
Example: In the above ordering example, for the DB2 Data Archive Expert running on a machine with
1,500 MSUs requiring 344 Value Units, order feature number 0001, quantity 94, and feature number
0002, quantity 1.

Terms and conditions
Sub-capacity charges
zSeries software charges at less than full machine capacity for eligible DB2 and IMS Tools and
Application Development (AD) Tools apply when z/OS is running in z/Architecture (64-bit) mode on
a zSeries 900, no other MVS-based operating system is licensed to that server and the required
information is provided by the customer in accordance with the applicable terms.
Sub-capacity charges for an eligible AD Tool or DB2 and IMS Tool is based on the z/OS
product-defined capacity. To obtain charges at less than full machine capacity for eligible AD
Tools and DB2 and IMS Tools, the customer is required to:
-
Determine the MSUs needed for each machine on which the tools will run. Only machines on which the
customer has implemented sub-capacity Workstation License Charges (WLC) according to the above terms
and conditions, are eligible for charges at less than full machine capacity for the tools.
-
Use the product-defined capacity for z/OS (as specified on the Sub-Capacity Reports submitted to IBM
for sub-capacity WLC) as the sub-capacity (MSUs) for each tool.
-
Submit any additional MSUs or Value Units required for each product along with the current
entitlement in Value Units for each product.
Sub-capacity charges for AD Tools and DB2 and IMS Tools
To be eligible for sub-capacity charges for AD Tools and DB2 and IMS Tools, the machine on which the
AD Tools and DB2 and IMS Tools are running must be eligible for WLC sub-capacity charges terms and
conditions. The customer must have signed the Attachment for zSeries Workload License
Charges-Pre-ILM, Z125-6516, and submitted at least one Sub-Capacity Report to IBM as defined in the
attachment.
With sub-capacity charges, the charge for an eligible AD or DB2 and IMS Tool is based on the z/OS
product-defined capacity. To obtain charges at less than full machine capacity for each eligible AD
Tool and DB2 and IMS Tool for each machine, the customer should:
-
Determine the MSUs needed for the machine on which the tools will run. In a data sharing
environment, determine the aggregate MSUs needed on the machine where the tools run. Use the
product-defined capacity (MSUs) for z/OS (as specified on the Sub-Capacity Reports submitted to IBM
for sub-capacity WLC) as the sub-capacity (MSUs) for each Tool.
-
Submit any additional MSUs or Value Units required for each product along with the current
entitlement in Value Units for each product.
-
If the use of sub-capacity pricing terms for AD Tools and DB2 and IMS Tools results in a reduced
requirement for Value Units, thus freeing up entitlements, customers can reallocate the entitlement
difference by distributing the Value Units across a larger or different set of systems, or reserve
them for future growth. There will be no refunds for these freed up Value Units. Subscription and
Support volumes and entitlements for existing contracts will continue to be at the same levels as
the acquired licenses.
Management of the Value Unit entitlements continues to be a customer responsibility. If one of the
following occur on a machine to which AD or DB2 and IMS Tools are licensed, the customer must
determine if additional Value Units and Subscription and Support need to be ordered for those tools
to cover the increase:
-
The z/OS-defined capacity is increased.
-
The requirements for WLC sub-capacity charges are no longer met.
