Software Announcement 203-217 September 9, 2003 IBM Parallel Engineering and Scientific Subroutine Library for Linux on pSeries V3.1 (Parallel ESSL) offers scientific subroutines for optimum performance(Corrected on October 10, 2003)
The Ordering information is clarified and TLES 8 is added as a supported operating system.
At a glanceParallel ESSL V3.1 is tuned for optimum performance on POWER4 and POWER4+ processors and the Myrinet switch.
For ordering, contact: Your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or the Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL (Reference: RE001). Overview
IBM Parallel ESSL is a scalable mathematical subroutine library that supports parallel processing
applications on clusters of IBM Parallel ESSL supports the Single Program Multiple Data (SPMD) programming model. Parallel ESSL provides over 100 subroutines in six major areas of mathematical computations:
For communication, Parallel ESSL includes Basic Linear Algebra Communications Subprograms (BLACS), which use the Message Passing Interface (MPI). For computations, Parallel ESSL uses ESSL for Linux on pSeries subroutines. The Parallel ESSL GM libraries are provided for use with the MPICH-GM library and the Myrinet-2000 switch with Myrinet/PCI-X adapters. Internet protocol (IP) is not supported. The Parallel ESSL GM libraries support both 32-bit environment and 64-bit environment applications. The subroutines can be called from application programs written in Fortran, C, and C++. Parallel ESSL runs under the SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 8 or Turbolinux Enterprise Server (TLES) 8 operating systems. Key prerequisites
DescriptionIBM Parallel Engineering and Scientific Subroutine Library for Linux on pSeries is functionally equivalent to the Parallel ESSL for AIX® 5L V2.3 (5765-C41) product, except that:
All Parallel ESSL libraries provide high levels of performance for numerically intensive computing jobs on the respective processors. All versions provide mathematically equivalent results. Refer to the Parallel Engineering and Scientific Subroutine Library for AIX, V2.3 and Linux on pSeries, V3.1 Guide and Reference, V3.1 for details. Hardcopy documentation is not shipped with the product. Documentation can be viewed or printed as detailed in the Publications section.
The Parallel ESSL software license agreement is shipped, viewed, and accepted electronically.
Accessibility by people with disabilitiesThe following feature supports use by people with disabilities:
Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation ActParallel Engineering and Scientific Subroutine Library for Linux on pSeries V3.1 is capable, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it. Product positioning
Parallel ESSL for Linux on pSeries should be used where optimum performance is desired through
simple subroutine calls from floating-point engineering and scientific MPI applications running on
clusters of IBM Reference informationRefer to:

Packaging:
Parallel ESSL for Linux on pSeries V3.1 is distributed on one CD-ROM (LCD4-7424).
Security, auditability, and controlParallel ESSL uses the security and auditability features of the SLES 8 or TLES 8 operating systems. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities. Ordering informationParallel ESSL for Linux on pSeries V3.1 (5765-G18) is a program with one charge unit: number of active processors. The number of processors is the sum of the active number of processors in each of the machines on which Parallel ESSL for Linux on pSeries will be installed and run. A license is required for each machine on which Parallel ESSL for Linux on pSeries will be installed and run, for a quantity as computed above. Software Maintenance for Parallel ESSL for Linux on pSeries V3.1 (5771-PEL or 5773-PEL) should be ordered in a quantity equal to the sum of the active processors on each of the pSeries systems on which Parallel ESSL will be installed and run. Users of Parallel ESSL V3.1 should specify type 5765, model G18, media feature number 5809, and the quantity equal to the number of active processors on the pSeries systems. For example, if ordering Parallel ESSL V3.1 for a server that has 12 active processors, order media feature number 5809 and the one-time charge (OTC) feature number with a quantity of 12.
