Along with transaction, security, process integration, and life cycle services, it provides a single, open, comprehensive, and consistent framework for managing, sharing, reusing, and archiving of all types of digitized content.
IBM Content Manager key enhancements
Enhanced enterprise scalability: In addition to the client-server architecture introduced by its predecessors, Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 unveils a fully Web-enabled, scalable, extensible, multitier, distributed architecture that includes the following:
Resource Manager replication: This is the ability to store objects in multiple locations, managed by replicated Resource Managers. This is an important feature for many high-availability applications and for optimizing network resource consumption in distributed environments. Replication can reduce bandwidth requirements and provide additional disaster protection as data can be restored from a local replica. Centrally stored documents are automatically updated when changes are made to replicas.
Advanced Workflow enhancements in the eClient: Two key enhancements will be delivered in the Advanced Workflow feature of DB2 Information Integrator for Content (formerly EIP). These include support for collection points and federated folders in the eClient. Collection points established through the Workflow Builder specify the point at which a federated folder awaits additional, supporting, or required documents or folders. Once the additional document or folder is received, the work packet will automatically move to the next step in the process. Federated folders extend the concept of electronic folders to the federated layer of DB2 Information Integrator for Content, thus allowing objects from multiple repositories to be placed in a common folder and routed as a unit through the advanced workflow processes.
Note: DB2 Information Integrator for Content runs on mid-tier server.
A collection point can temporarily suspend a folder of documents that is in a process, waiting at the collection point until a specified document (or collection of documents) arrives, or until a specified period of time elapses. This "time out" event can trigger the routing of the folder into an exception path. Business processes such as document review of a loan application can be defined where a collection point can wait for the arrival of all required supporting documentation, such as a credit report and property title. If all of the required documentation does not arrive in the loan folder within a predefined period of time, the folder could be routed to an exception or notification queue. This functionality (with the exception being the triggers) can be used with the eClient without the need for custom programming.
Content Manager Integration for Siebel 7: Siebel's call center solution, Siebel 7 eBusiness, is the industry's most popular call center system, at use in thousands of customer-service-centric organizations. IBM Content Manager integration with Siebel 7 will give Siebel end users a comprehensive, enterprise-wide view of all their customer data. This integration features object-oriented APIs to easily integrate content into customer-facing e-business applications. In other words, no customer service representative will miss potential sales opportunities or risk poor customer service by not having the right information available to them in real time.
IBM Content Manager Integration for Siebel offers a more robust storage capability to deliver and store all correspondence (inbound and outbound) electronically in a common repository. After utilizing IBM Content Manager, users can subsequently link each document to a Siebel service request. Users of IBM Content Manager Integration for Siebel are able to share service request information enterprise-wide with departments, customers, or Business Partners that may be outside the Siebel 7 eBusiness application with regulatory agencies, other departments within the enterprise, and Business Partners. By implementing a single interface for accessing customer information and documents as an extension to the user's Siebel desktop, users can accelerate the processing of customer correspondence, and consequently improve document capture quality control, streamline reporting, eliminate redundant tasks, and reduce volume of outbound correspondence.
Powerful, enhanced data model: Advanced and flexible data modeling capabilities allow applications to readily represent real-world objects in the enterprise content environment, significantly reducing the application development effort. Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 expands on the earlier data model to deliver a more powerful and expressive, XML-ready physical data model that can capture structural and relationship information across all types of content and its associated metadata or attributes.
Utilities are provided to migrate metadata in Content Manager for z/OS, V2.3 to Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2. Object data in Content Manager z/OS, V2.3 Object Servers will stay in place and can be accessed from Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 after the metadata migration. The migration utilities includes a set of z/OS batch jobs to perform metadata migration in the following steps:
Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 also provides utilities for migrating from a full ImagePlus® V3.1 (or ImagePlus V2.2 with IPFAF/FWA V2.2.1) implementation to Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2. A "full ImagePlus V3.1 implementation" contains each of the three ImagePlus components ImagePlus Object Distribution Manager (IODM), ImagePlus Folder Application Facility/Application Programming Interface (IPFAF/API), and ImagePlus Folder Application Facility/Folder Workflow Application (IPFAF/FWA). Migrating an implementation with any variations in these components will require a custom effort to migrate. The utilities provided are z/OS batch jobs in three high-level groups:
During a migration from ImagePlus/390 to Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2, the ImagePlus objects are not touched. Only the DB2 tables are migrated.
Enhanced integrated and resilient enterprise operations
Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 provides a complete, integrated, extensible, and secure control environment for managing and processing content, while leveraging industry standards such as, RACF®, user exits, and tighter integration of access control.
Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 provides a single point of access for administering Content Manager and Information Integrator for Content servers, users, and groups, regardless of their location across an enterprise. This helps reduce operational costs and improves manageability.

DB2 Content Manager for z/OS servers
In DB2 Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2, the Resource Manager and the Library Server are available as separate features under a single product number (5697-H60) and are priced via a Monthly License Charge (MLC). Your ordering options include ordering the Resource Manager server feature and Library Server feature separately allowing for you to choose which platforms to run these servers on. For example, you could order the Content Manager for z/OS Resource Manager and the Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 Library Server as well as a Content Manager for Multiplatforms Resource Manager. Your license to the program allows you to install one instance of the program server you purchased.
The Library Server feature is a priced feature of DB2 Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 (5697-H60). The Library Server feature is included on the program media. You are not authorized to use the feature unless you first acquire a license for this feature.
Your license to the program feature entitles you to install one instance of the program feature on one physical server. If you wish to install additional programs on additional physical servers, you must acquire additional licenses.
The Resource Manager is a priced feature of DB2 Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 (5697-H60). The Resource Manager feature is included on the program media. You are not authorized to use the feature unless you first acquire a license for this feature.
Your license to the program feature entitles you to install one instance of the program feature on one physical server. If you wish to install additional programs on additional physical servers, you must acquire additional licenses.
You must acquire a license for each Concurrent User. The number of Concurrent Users is defined as the maximum or peak number of users connected to the program servers at one time. Each user connection is considered to be active, and therefore concurrent, for 30 minutes after logon or any transaction against the server. If the user invokes any transaction activity within a 30-minute interval, the user will continue to be considered an active Concurrent User. If the connected user remains inactive for a period of greater than 30 minutes, they will no longer be considered an active Concurrent User, until they reestablish an active connection by invoking a transaction against the server.
The number of Concurrent Users may not exceed the number authorized by the applicable Concurrent User licenses. Each Content Manager Concurrent User license authorizes one individual user to connect to one Content Manager or Content Manager OnDemand program server across any of the following platforms: Windows NT, Windows 2000, AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, OS/390, z/OS, and ImagePlus® for z/OS.
A Concurrent User is defined as a user either within or outside the customer's enterprise who is entitled to establish one or more connections to any authorized Content Manager or Content Manager OnDemand program server directly or through a surrogate or application server (using common techniques such as end-user mapping or connection pooling). Employees, clients, partners, and Internet users who make a connection via either an application or client are all counted as Concurrent Users.

Limited use DB2 UDB components
The program includes portions of DB2 UDB. You are authorized to install and use these components only in association with your licensed use of the Content Manager program for the storage and management of data used or generated by the program, and not for other data management purposes. For example, this license does not include inbound connections to the database from other applications for queries or report generation. You are authorized to install and use these components only with and on the same licensed processors as the program.
Limited use WebSphere Application Server
The program is accompanied by a copy of WebSphere Application Server (WAS). For each program server Proof of Entitlement (PoE), you are entitled to install and use, from the media provided with the program, one copy of each of the WAS components required to support your licensed use of the program. Your use of the WAS components is limited to use in support of your licensed use of the program, and is subject to the terms and conditions of the license agreement (except as limited in this paragraph) which accompanies WAS. The WAS components may not be used for any other purpose.
Limited use IBM Directory Server
The program is accompanied by a copy of IBM Directory Server. For each program server PoE, you are entitled to install and use, from the media provided with the program, one copy of each of the Directory Server components required to support your licensed use of the program. Your use of the Directory Server components is limited to use in support of your licensed use of the program, and is subject to the terms and conditions of the license agreement (except as limited in this paragraph) which accompanies Directory Server. The IBM Directory Server components may not be used for any other purpose.
Limited use WebSphere MQ and WebSphere MQ Workflow
DB2 Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 servers (Resource Manager server and Library Server) each include a copy of WebSphere MQ and WebSphere MQ Workflow. For each Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 program server license PoE, you are entitled to install and use, from the media provided with this program, the runtime components required to support your licensed use of the program. The PoE for Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 is the MLC license of the Content Manager for z/OS server code. The Resource Manager server and the Library Server are available as separate features under a single product number, 5697-H60. Your use of the WebSphere MQ and WebSphere MQ Workflow components is limited to the workflows that are generated by the DB2 Information Integrator for Content builder within the context of the program.
Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 provides the Information Integrator for Content builder to define processes and support selected WebSphere MQ Workflow FDL functions. Content Manager customers may modify the FDL generated by the Information Integrator for Content workflow builder to turn audit recording on and off, but may not add FDL process definitions to WebSphere MQ Workflow not created by the Information Integrator for Content workflow builder. Other builders (MQ Workflow buildtime or WBI Modeler) or workflow templates from third parties cannot be deployed with this limited use license. Information Integrator for Content installs MQ Workflow silently for use with Content Manager. Users of Content Manager access the MQ Workflow runtime only through the Information Integrator for Content API layer on top of MQ Workflow client APIs.
The WebSphere MQ and WebSphere MQ Workflow components may not be used for any other purpose.
Limited use DB2 Information Integrator for Content
Your use of DB2 Information Integrator for Content is limited to use in support of your licensed use of the program, and is subject to the terms and conditions of the license agreement (except as limited in this paragraph), which accompanies DB2 Information Integrator for Content. Your license to the program entitles you to use DB2 Information Integrator for Content to access the following Content Manager servers: DB2 Content Manager servers, DB2 Content Manager ImagePlus, DB2 Content Manager OnDemand servers, EDMSuite VisualInfo and OnDemand servers, DB2 Digital Library servers, and Lotus Domino.Doc® servers, on all supported platforms.
Your license to the program does not entitle you to access additional servers and data stores that are not part of the DB2 Content Manager portfolio of products, such as DB2 UDB, other relational databases, IBM Information Catalog, or other data stores. Your license to the program does not entitle you to the following DB2 Information Integrator for Content services: Information Mining, Advanced Workflow, and Extended Search. Information Mining and Extended Search require separate DB2 Information Integrator for Content licensing. Advanced Workflow requires separate DB2 Content Manager for Multiplatforms licensing.
Direct customer support: Direct customer support is provided by IBM Operational Support Services Support Line. This fee service can enhance your productivity by providing voice and electronic access into the IBM support organization. IBM Operational Support Services Support Line will help answer questions pertaining to usage, how to and suspected software defects for eligible products.
Packaging: In DB2 Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2, the Resource Manager and the Library Server are available as separate features under a single product number (5697-H60) and are priced via an MLC. Your ordering options include ordering the Resource Manager server feature and Library Server feature separately allowing for you to choose upon which platforms to run these servers. For example, you could order the Content Manager for z/OS Resource Manager and the Content Manager for z/OS, V8.2 Library Server as well as a Content Manager for Multiplatforms Resource Manager. Your license to the program allows you to install one instance of the program server you purchased.
You will also receive the media pack below when you order the Resource Manager or the Library Server. If you order both the Resource Manager and the Library Server, you will receive only one set of CDs.

Security, auditability, and control
The announced program uses the security and auditability features of the host hardware or operating system software. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.
Orders for new licenses can be placed now.
Registered customers can access IBMLink for ordering information and charges.
Shipment will not occur before the planned availability date.
Unless a later date is specified, orders entered before the planned availability date will be assigned a schedule date of one week following availability.
New users of DB2 Content Manager for z/OS V8 should specify machine type 5697 and model H60.
Basic license: To order a basic license or this feature for the basic license, specify the program number and feature number 9001 for asset registration. Specify feature number 0001 or 0003 for an MLC.

Expedite shipments will be processed to receive 72-hour delivery from the time IBM Software Delivery and Fulfillment (SDF) receives the order. SDF will then ship the order via overnight air transportation.

Most product media is shipped only via Customized Offerings (CBPDO, ServerPac, Systempac®). Non-customized items (CDs, diskettes, source media, media kits) will continue to be shipped via the stand-alone product.
