OverviewWebSphere® Portal — Express and WebSphere Portal — Express Plus have been designed for the needs of small and medium-sized business, as well as departments within larger companies. With WebSphere Portal — Express, you can deploy portals for your employees, trading partners, and customers on which the content, applications, portal page organization, and graphic appearance have been customized for each user's needs and preferred work patterns. This means critical business information and applications will be much easier to locate and use. This can help employees become more productive, improve service to trading partners, and attract new customers to your site. WebSphere Portal — Express Plus has all the features of WebSphere Portal — Express and adds features that help teams of individuals work together more effectively on projects. Also, WebSphere Portal — Express and WebSphere Portal — Express Plus are available with a choice of user-based licensing or processor-based licensing. User-based licensing and processor-based licensing can be used on an extranet, intranet or Internet portal. You can choose the licensing option that best fits your budget. WebSphere Portal — ExpressWebSphere Portal — Express provides a single unified workspace in which your employees, trading partners, and customers can easily find and use the applications and information that they need. Its features include the following:
Share documents within your portal community
New with WebSphere Portal — Express is the portal document manager. The document manager is a new
set of portlets that provides a means for portal users to share, organize, and edit files of all
types ranging from documents to spreadsheets within the portal community. Portal users can view,
add, delete, and modify documents. Built-in function allows editing of a variety of file formats.
You can also use the editor of your choice to modify a document. Additional features include
category subscription services, a simple approval process for file contribution, automatic dialog
boxes for contributing metadata, integrated search capability, versioning so that users can track
the evolution of a piece of content, and access control for managing viewing privileges of different
content items. WebSphere Portal — Express' portal document manager provides a cost-effective
approach to maximizing the effective use of the intellectual property inherent in your documents by
making them more accessible to those that need the information.
Improve the productivity of users executing business processesText editing and spreadsheet functions are critical to many business processes. However, these functions are typically not integrated within other portal solutions and they are expensive to license, deploy, and maintain. New with WebSphere Portal — Express is a set of productivity components that allow portal users to view, create, convert, and edit basic documents, spreadsheets, and presentation files from the same portal interface that they use to interact with information, applications, and people across their business. For example, a teammate could e-mail you a spreadsheet that you receive in your mail in-box portlet. You can save this spreadsheet in the portal document manager. The productivity components then allow you to view the spreadsheet without the need to launch a separate spreadsheet tool. You make changes to the spreadsheet, save your changes, and distribute the modified spreadsheet to others for viewing, all without launching a spreadsheet tool.
The productivity components functions can also be used by other portlets allowing you to embed text
editing and spreadsheet functions in business processes. For instance, on an employee benefits
portal, you could place a portlet that has an embedded spreadsheet that calculates projected
retirement benefits based on data entered by the portal user. Another example use would be on an
insurance company site on which a portlet is placed which has embedded text editing for entry of
claim data. The WebSphere Portal — Express productivity components allow you to more easily and
economically make text editing and spreadsheet functions an integral part of your business processes
within your portal.
Reduce application integration cost
IT cost reduction can be achieved with easy-to-use cooperative portlets, based on Click-to-Action
technology. Click-to-Action technology allows business applications to be integrated through the
transfer of business information between portlets. For example, with Click-to-Action technology, a
portal user can click on a customer's name in a CRM portlet. The customer's name and account number
are then automatically transferred from the CRM portlet to an Order Tracking portlet. This data
transfer integrates the two applications, making it easier for a portal user to check on order
status for a customer. This integration is accomplished using Click-to-Action technology, which
manages the transfer of data between the portlets.
WebSphere Portal — Express PlusWebSphere Portal — Express Plus contains all the function of WebSphere Portal — Express and adds powerful teaming and collaboration functionality including the following:
WebSphere Portal — Express Plus also features a collaboration center, which is a set of portlets that make it easier for an organization to build and deploy collaborative intranet and employee portals. Capabilities provided by the collaboration center include the ability to:

With award-winning collaboration technology, WebSphere Portal — Express Plus helps portal users work together and act on information as they view it. The benefit to the company can be fewer barriers, greater productivity.
WebSphere Portal — Express and WebSphere Portal — Express Plus are packaged such that a single
part number delivers programs installable on all supported platforms. The National Language
Versions of these programs contain all translated languages. Both the platform and language used
are specified during product installation.
Additional license informationWebSphere Portal — Express for Multiplatforms V5 and WebSphere Portal — Express Plus for Multiplatforms V5 are licensed for operation in a single-server configuration only. Clustering and cloning of servers are not supported.
WebSphere Portal — Express for Multiplatforms V5 and WebSphere Portal — Express Plus for
Multiplatforms V5 may be deployed in a warm standby configuration. Warm standby is defined as
having the server powered up and not in use, but ready to assume the workload of another server if
that other server fails. A server that is placed in warm standby must have the number of WebSphere
Portal — Express or Portal — Express Plus for Multiplatforms V5 licenses that are sufficient to
enable it to assume the workload of the other intended server.

WebSphere Portal support for OASIS Web Services for Remote Portlets specification 1.0IBM is a sponsor and chairs the technical committee that has completed the Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) 1.0 specification. This specification is designed to enable sharing of visual, user-facing Web applications across the Internet. It provides standardized Web Services Description Language (WSDL) interfaces that allow seamless interoperability between Web applications of different vendors. The first release of this specification is completed and currently scheduled for submission to OASIS in July 2003 as a prospective standard according to the OASIS technical committee for Web Services for Remote Portlets. The user-based licensing option entitles a customer to install one copy of the software on one server for use by 20 portal users. All 20 users must be placed on one server. No more than 2,000 individuals may be given access to a server running IBM WebSphere Portal — Express for Multiplatforms V5.0 or IBM WebSphere Portal — Express Plus for Multiplatforms V5.0 when user-based licensing is chosen. With user-based licensing, no more than one portal page can be made visible to individuals for whom a user license has not been acquired. The processor-based license option entitles a customer to install one copy of the software on one server. With processor-based licensing, there is no license restriction on the number of individuals who can be given access to the portal. With processor-based licensing, the restriction that no more than one portal page be made visible to individuals for whom a user license has not been acquired does not apply. To allow customers to protect their investments in user-based license options, a conversion of 20 user-based license options (400 users) of WebSphere Portal — Express or Portal — Express Plus for Multiplatforms V5.0 to one processor-based license option is allowed for the purpose of purchasing a trade-up to WebSphere Portal Enable or Extend for Multiplatforms V5.0. For example, 20 licenses of the WebSphere Portal — Express V5.0 user-based license option qualifies the customer to purchase an upgrade to one processor-based license of WebSphere Portal Enable for Multiplatforms V5.0. A customer's qualification to purchase an upgrade is based on an increment of 400 user licenses. For example, 21 licenses of the WebSphere Portal — Express V5.0 user-based license option still qualifies the customer to purchase an upgrade to only one processor-based license of WebSphere Portal Enable for Multiplatforms V5.0. Terms and conditionsLicensing: IBM International Program License Agreement. Proofs of Entitlement (PoE) are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance. License information form number: L-KSNR-5NPNPZ Warranty: This program has warranty for a minimum of one year from acquisition from IBM or authorized Business Partner. The warranty provided to the customer, for at least one year from acquisition, is access to databases (read Web sites) for program information, FAQs, including any known fixes to defects, which the customer can download or obtain otherwise and install at their leisure. Program technical support: Technical support of a program product will be available for a minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. Customers will be notified, via announcement, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee. Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program return it within 30 days from the invoice date to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it for a refund.
