Software Pricing for IBM
zSeries z990 and Enhancements to Variable Workload License Charges (VWLC)
ENUS203-130.PDF (27KB)
|
Overview
IBM software programs running on the IBM zSeries® z990 qualify for the same software pricing options under applicable terms
and conditions that are currently available for IBM programs running on the IBM zSeries z900 machines.
IBM is also enhancing Variable Workload License Charge to provide finer granularity on the IBM zSeries z900 and z990 by lowering
the base charge from 45 MSUs to 3 MSUs. Workload License Charge (WLC) pricing is available when
z/OS® is running on the IBM
zSeries z990 server and all other qualifying terms and conditions for WLC are met. The IBM zSeries z800 servers qualify for
WLC software prices when they are in a Parallel Sysplex® with other zSeries machines and all other
qualifying terms and conditions for WLC are met.
Parallel Sysplex License Charge (PSLC) will apply to OS/390® software products and may apply with
the PSLC price option for z/OS software if the customer elects PSLC pricing. When sofware currently
priced under the PSLC structure is migrated to an IBM zSeries z990, the customer may elect to continue using PSLC pricing.
However, if the customer is migrating from an IBM zSeries z900 that is already subject to WLC pricing, then the software
running on the IBM zSeries
z990 must be charged under the WLC structure.
VM and VSE products running on the IBM zSeries z990 will also qualify for the same pricing structures currently available
for the IBM zSeries z900.
Extended License Charge (ELC) applies for servers over 80 MSUs. Graduated Monthly License Charge
(GMLC) applies for servers with 80 MSUs, or less. Customers who select WLC pricing for the z/OS
environment must license VM and VSE products with the Flat Workload License Charge (FWLC). z/VM®
Version 4 and its Subscription and Support (S&S) charges are priced per engine based on
International Program License Agreement (IPLA) terms and conditions.
Software charges for IBM
zSeries z990 will be based on the number of central processors (CP's) and, when customers qualify,
and so elect, WLC Sub-Capacity Pricing. The IBM zSeries z990 has four orderable hardware models: 2084-A08, 2084-B16,
2084-C24, and 2084-D32. The hardware model is not an indicator of the machine's performance because
the hardware model does not indicate how many general purpose CP's are installed. Therefore, the
concept "software model" has been created especially for the IBM z990 to provide a simple indicator of machine performance, in
Millions of Service Units (MSUs). There are 32 software models corresponding to the available
number of installed general purpose CP's. Installed general purpose CP's are those which are
available for customer use and do not include special purpose processing units such as Integrated
Facility for Linux (IFL) and Integrated Coupling Facility (ICF).
There is one MSU rating per IBM zSeries z990 software model, which will be used for capacity-based software charges
on IBM zSeries z990. Software
models follow the naming convention of 3xx, where "xx" represents the number of installed general
purpose CP's. These software models range from 301 through 332. The MSU ratings for each IBM zSeries z990 software model will be
available on the Web at:
Currently, the IBM Customer Agreement (ICA) requires one month's notice
prior to terminating a license for a program. Effective immediately, for
countries with Full Month Billing, IBM no longer requires one month's
notice for termination of zSeries or S/390 programs. However, written
(or electronic) notice is still required.
