Statement of General Direction

In response to increasing market demand, it is IBM's intention to extend the operating platform support for WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks, currently available for the z/OS operating environment.

Beginning mid-year 2003, IBM intends to provide a phased delivery for AIX® and SUN Solaris operating environments. You would then have more choices in meeting your specific needs within varied operating environments and more consistency of operating environments with the extended WebSphere portfolio of offerings.

IBM also intends to deliver a WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks SWIFTNet FIN connectivity extension, to operate independently of MERVA by mid-year 2003. The plan is to incorporate the message validation and BKE processing into a discrete SWIFTNet FIN connectivity extension to allow customer deployment of a message hub in support of a variety of SWIFTNet and other financial services, with or without connectivity to MERVA. Additional functionality is also being driven to extend capabilities like manual message entry and repair and overall monitoring capabilities.

Customers who choose to deploy a messaging infrastructure without connectivity to MERVA would then be able to utilize industry-leading payment processing applications. Such applications would make use of the WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks messaging infrastructure with optimum flexibility for financial institutions to make use of current or new applications for payment processing.

WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks is the open, flexible message integration infrastructure that extends beyond just SWIFTNet FIN capabilities by providing access to all SWIFTNet services including InterAct and FileAct plus the ability to extend into non-SWIFT network access services for Financial Institutions.

This information represents IBM's current intentions, goals, and objectives, and is subject to change or withdrawal without additional or prior notice.
