What's New in Content Manager V8.2

Content Manager Integration for Siebel 7: Siebel's call center solution, Siebel 7 eBusiness, is the industry's most popular call center system, at use in thousands of customer-service-centric organizations. IBM Content Manager integration with Siebel 7 will give Siebel end users a comprehensive, enterprise-wide view of all their customer data. This integration features object-oriented APIs to easily integrate content into customer-facing e-business applications. In other words, no customer service representative will miss potential sales opportunities or risk poor customer service by not having the right information available to them in real time.

IBM Content Manager Integration for Siebel offers a more robust storage capability to deliver and store all correspondence (inbound and outbound) electronically in a common repository, and after utilizing IBM Content Manager, can subsequently link each document to a Siebel service request. Users of IBM Content Manager Integration for Siebel are able to share service request information enterprise-wide with departments, customers, or Business Partners that may be outside the Siebel 7 eBusiness application with regulatory agencies, other departments within the enterprise, and/or Business Partners. By implementing a single interface for accessing customer information and documents as an extension to the user's Siebel desktop, users can accelerate the processing of customer correspondence, and consequently improve document capture quality control, streamline reporting, eliminate redundant tasks, and reduce volume of outbound correspondence.

Content Manager Integration for PeopleSoft: Adding IBM Content Manager V8.2 with its new integration to PeopleSoft expands the PeopleSoft value to include access to and management of all associated documents. By using this new integration, customers can now leverage the full suite of PeopleSoft's best of breed solutions for users across the enterprise including Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Supply Chain Management (SCM), Enterprise Performance Management, Financial Management, Human Resources Management, and Supplier Relationship Management as well as Portal Solutions.

Content Manager integration for PeopleSoft benefits the PeopleSoft customer with seamless integration, single logon, quick and easy access to data in real time, improved search capabilities, access to both structured and unstructured data, plus hierarchical storage and retention management, all while leveraging UDB reliability and scalability.

Oracle Support Continues to Be Available in Beta: Added support for Oracle databases to manage the metadata stored in both the Library Server and Resource Manager allows Oracle customers to leverage their existing investment by taking advantage of Content Manager. Content Manager provides the foundation for managing, storing, and distributing all forms of digital content, including correspondence, e-mail, video collections, brochures, images, spreadsheets, PDF documents, and more in a single virtual repository. Content Manager is designed to deliver scalability, robustness, and performance while providing an open architecture built upon enterprise environment standards. Oracle customers can now gain the benefits of an IBM ECM solution while maximizing their database investment.

Resource Manager Replication: This is the ability to store objects in multiple locations, managed by replicated Resource Managers. This is an important feature for many High Availability applications, as well as for optimizing network resource consumption in distributed environments (when associated with LAN caching it allows delivery of objects from a local Resource Manager). Replication can reduce bandwidth requirements and provide additional disaster protection as data can be restored from a local replica, and centrally stored documents are automatically updated when changes are made to replicas.

LAN Cache: LAN cache provides the capability of designating a Resource Manager as a LAN cache server. It provides application-transparent caching, using local servers as defined by the system administrator. Selected user-defined objects can be copied (and will automatically be copied when accessed) to this cache to provide quick access when necessary and to allow improved location management of stored documents. A group of users at a remote location without a high-speed line can benefit from LAN cache. After the initial slower retrieval, the subsequent cached retrievals are fast, improving the overall productivity of the local users. LAN caching combined with replication can eliminate network-related performance issues. When delivering objects from the end user's local LAN cache server, network traffic is minimized by reducing the need to deliver objects from the object-owning Resource Manager across a WAN connection.

Advanced Workflow Enhancements in the eClient: Two key enhancements will be delivered in the Advanced Workflow feature of IBM DB2 Information Integrator for Content (formerly EIP). These include support for collection points and federated folders in the eClient. Collection points established through the Workflow Builder specify the point at which a federated folder awaits additional, supporting, or required documents or folders. Once the additional document or folder is received, the work packet will automatically move to the next step in the process. Federated folders extend the concept of electronic folders to the federated layer of IBM DB2 Information Integrator for Content, thus allowing objects from multiple repositories to be placed in a common folder and routed as a unit through the advanced workflow processes.

A collection point can temporarily suspend a folder of documents that is in a process, waiting at the collection point until a specified document (or collection of documents) arrives, or until a specified period of time elapses. This "timeout" event can trigger the routing of the folder into an exception path. Business processes such as document review of a loan application can be defined where a collection point can wait for the arrival of all required supporting documentation, such as a credit report and property title. If all of the required documentation does not arrive in the loan folder within a predefined period of time, the folder could be routed to an exception or notification queue. This functionality (with the exception being the triggers) can be used with the eClient without the need for custom programming.

Content Manager VideoCharger: Content Manager VideoCharger now automatically switches to TCP protocol if the preferred UDP protocol (User Datagram Protocol) is blocked by firewall restrictions. The server and player components will automatically adjust to establish connectivity. This improves the user's experience when initially establishing connections between the player and VideoCharger server. In previous releases administrators had to manually set the players to use TCP mode if a firewall conflict existed. This release also provides additional performance improvements and includes the VideoCharger player in Russian. No separate player installation is required for MPEG-4 support. VideoCharger provides usability enhancements to a downloadable IBM 100% Java MPEG-4 client/player that loads in front of the MPEG-4 streaming content.

And through integration with IBM Electronic Media Management System (EMMS), VideoCharger supports the secure streaming of encrypted content. Because VideoCharger V8.2 supports all the major standards-based streaming formats (including MPEG-4, MPEG-2, MPEG-1, and MP3 for Audio) it offers a nonproprietary, secure solution not tied to any one vendor's format or technologies.

Apple's MAC is supported through eClient browser, with the exception of the viewer applet. The VideoCharger server can stream hinted QuickTime audios or videos to the QuickTime player using any of the QuickTime streaming codecs, including QuickTime MPEG-4 codecs.

Support is provided for current versions of prerequisite software, such as:

  • DB2 V8
  • WebSphere Application Server 5.0

IBM DB2 Content Manager supports J2EE standards through its support of IBM WebSphere Application Server and the delivery of a Java toolkit that includes: Java Beans (both visual and non-visual), Java class libraries, a Java Server Pages (JSP) tag library, and controller servlet. These toolkit components may be used when creating JSP, servlets, and Enterprise Java Beans for Web applications.

DB2 Information Integrator for Content

Most enterprises are dealing with disparate islands of solutions or applications that manage data or digital content. Each of these solutions and applications provides users its own specific way to access information in system repositories. Each of these solutions and applications requires training on syntax, semantics, and interfaces. Custom application development is often needed to aggregate information from these disparate sources and additional filtering is necessary to find the information that is relevant to users. DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 is designed to solve these problems by providing an information integration framework for single-point access to structured and unstructured data in all heterogeneous systems of repositories across the enterprise.

IBM DB2 Information Integrator for Content provides an information integration framework that is open, extensible, and consistent across all supported servers. A federated connector is provided as the common interface for federated information integration applications. This open, extensible framework allows data and digital content sources (including non-IBM products) to be accessed with common APIs and components (for example, JavaBeans). This object-oriented framework is consistent: all native connectors interact with the federated connector and provide an application with a federated content view that is independent of the unique syntax and semantics of the various underlying repositories. Applications can be written to the federated connector as well as the following native connector interfaces:

  • Content Manager V8
  • Content Manager OnDemand V7
  • Content Manager V7
  • Content Manager for iSeries™ V5.1
  • Content Manager OnDemand for iSeries V5.1, V5.2

Integration with IBM Lotus Extended Search Version 4.0 expands the range of content sources available for search.

IBM Lotus Extended Search adds built-in support for Web content, file systems, Lotus Notes® databases, Lotus and Microsoft™ mail applications, Domino, Microsoft, and IBM WebSphere Portal indexes, RDBMS systems such as IBM DB2, Oracle, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft SQL Server, LDAP directories, Content Management databases, Lotus Discovery Server knowledge maps, Lotus QuickPlace™ databases, and Lotus Sametime® instant messaging systems. The IBM Lotus Extended Search C/C++ and Java application programming interfaces enable you to easily extend search support to other proprietary, legacy, and emerging data stores that are used in your business.

IBM Lotus Extended Search V4.0 is a scalable broker-based search server that supports distributed, parallel searches across a variety of structured and unstructured repositories from a single point of access through a Web browser. Search results from all sources are aggregated into a single result set and returned to the requesting user, saved to a database for later viewing, or stored in a file system for processing by another application, such as a data indexer.

IBM Lotus Extended Search V4.0 provides an open, comprehensive, and consistent framework for searching and retrieving all types of content from people and repositories that are distributed throughout the world. IBM Lotus Extended Search V4.0 is designed to support unlimited scalability and extensibility without impacting performance. Its flexible framework enables it to be easily integrated into your existing infrastructure and to expand proportionate with your need to support additional users and new types of data sources.

What's New in Extended Search V4.0

  • Additional platform support for Red Hat Linux for Intel®, along with continued support for IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, and Microsoft Windows NT and Windows® 2000.
  • Support for Oracle as the configuration database store (previous releases supported IBM DB2 Universal Database).
  • New search links for Lotus Discovery Server, Lotus QuickPlace, Lotus Sametime, and IBM WebSphere Portal Search Engine, and an updated link for IBM DB2 Information Integrator for Content
  • New support for Lotus Sametime, which allows Extended Search users to query connected Sametime users, including subject matter experts who are members of a Discovery Server People source. Real-time human responses are included with the results from data repositories. Conversely, Sametime users can query Extended Search sources from their Sametime message window and view search results by clicking Web sites in the result set.
  • New sample Java programs to assist in the development of new search links, translators, discoverers, and plug-ins (previous releases required C++).
  • Many search performance enhancements, including an option to cache search results to disk as well as to memory, the ability to pool brokers for improved load balancing, and faster retrieval of stored search results.
  • Single signon support for Domino and WebSphere servers. Extended Search will deliver the authentication token to the backend systems for validation. Authenticated users are able to query secure sources without being asked repeatedly to re-authenticate themselves.
  • Many usability and accessibility enhancements in the Extended Search Administration application.
  • A new verification program that you can run to verify the installation of a product, or that you can run at any time to help troubleshoot problems.
  • The ability to enter multiple queries at the same time from the same interface, have each of those queries target different data sources, and receive a single result set in reply.
  • The ability to express queries in Web query notation (plus signs, minus signs, and so on). In previous releases, you could enter plain-text queries, queries expressed in generalized query language, or queries expressed in the native search syntax of the target data source.
  • An enhanced Demo application and search template that showcases new features in the product, along with new search templates that demonstrate a simple query interface and support for multiple query processing.
  • The ability to route search results as an HTML-formatted e-mail message. Recipients do not have to be Extended Search client users.
  • Improved message logging, including providing users with the ability to choose their preferred severity level for message reporting (critical, noncritical, warning, or informational).
  • Integration with IBM DB2 Information Integrator, which enables you to use structured query language (SQL) to query unstructured content in an Extended Search domain. Result data gets written to a special DB2 Universal Database table, which means you can apply relational concepts to post-process the data, perform analytical or computational operations on the data, or combine the table with other database tables in your DB2 federated system.

Benefits of IBM Lotus Extended Search 4.0 include:

  • Ease of Use: You can search a variety of data sources simultaneously and retrieve relevant information from a single Web browser interface. You can search multiple sources with one query, or search multiple sources with different queries, and obtain a single consolidated result set.
  • Flexible Result Sets: An Extended Search result set contains links that enable you to easily view a document or download attachments. The result set can exclude documents that do not meet certain constraints, such as documents that were created after a specific date. The result set can include administrator-specified actions, such as a Web site that was set up to further process the search result.
  • Collaboration: Extended Search encourages efficiency, productivity, and responsiveness among users.
    • Responses from individuals who have expertise in the query topic can help establish centers of competency throughout the organization and facilitate information sharing.
    • You can save, re-use, and share searches. For example, people with similar interests or that belong to the same workgroup can share queries and search results and thus benefit from each other's work.
    • You can schedule queries to run at specific times, a feature that allows you to run complex queries that target hundreds of data sources during off-peak business hours.
    • You can have search results from a scheduled query automatically distributed as an e-mail message. E-mail recipients can view the result documents by selecting links in the message.
    • You can save the result documents directly to a file system. Extended Search can operate as an intelligent, query-driven crawler by retrieving content of different formats on a scheduled basis and storing it in a file system. It can store content in its native form or wrap it in XML. Once stored, you can use other products to work with the saved data. For example:
      • You can use native applications to render result documents in their original form.
      • You can programmatically evaluate the stored results against topics that users subscribe to in another application, and automatically forward documents of interest to them.
      • You can use a workflow application to automatically forward the stored results to the next processing step in the workflow.
  • Web Crawling: The Extended Search Web crawler downloads data from Web sites to a file system. You can choose to store the data in its native form or wrap it in XML. You can then use other products to mine or index the data for knowledge management purposes.
  • Extensive Samples: By using the sample templates and tools, you can get started quickly with creating your own search applications. The application designer has complete control over the look-and-feel of the query interface. The Developer Toolkit includes C++ and Java examples that you can use as you develop your own data source discoverers, links, translators, and plug-ins.
  • Administration Interface: A single configuration database stores information about the system and the search domain. An intuitive graphical interface enables you to easily update the configuration to support new users and new data sources. A simple refresh action disseminates changes throughout the user community.
  • Administration Wizards: Wizards enable you to discover and add data sources, create mapped fields, define parameters that influence how Extended Search connects to sources, design result sets, and export and import configuration data.
  • Globalization: Extended Search is fully enabled for national language support and is available in 20 languages.
  • Security: Extended Search honors the backend security policies:
    • If you enable user authentication or single signon security in your Web front end, Extended Search will pass along the encrypted login credentials in a secure format to the backend systems for validation. If a user is not authorized to access a source, the attempt to query it will be denied.
    • You can plug in custom code at various stages in the query processing path to control access in accordance with your security policies. For example, you can confirm that a user is on an access control list or map a user's login ID to another format or let a user be known by a different ID within the system.
    • Extended Search enforces field usage restrictions, which means you determine which fields a user can search, view in a result set, or retrieve from a data source. The usage restrictions can apply to all the queries on a data source, or they can apply only to users who access that data source through a specific search application.

Software Requirements

IBM Content Manager for Multiplatforms V8.2

Note: In Content Manager V8, the WebSphere Application Server (WAS) is required for the Resource Manager, for Content Manager eClient application serving, and any three-tier Content Manager application using the eClient, beans, and/or APIs. In Content Manager V8.1, WAS Advanced Edition Single Server (AES) is provided to meet this requirement, however in certain configurations it would be necessary to purchase another edition of WAS, such as the WAS Advanced Edition (AE), to ensure sufficient performance and scaling. In Content Manager V8.2, WAS 5.0 (Base) is provided to meet this requirement, and due to the fact that WAS 5.0 supports cloned JVM configurations, this edition of WAS should be sufficient to support most Content Manager V8.2 deployments. If your CM V8.2 deployment anticipates high volumes and user activity levels, it may be recommended to implement a clustered WebSphere environment, which is not supported by WAS 5.0 (base). Please consult your IBM Sales Specialist or IBM Business Partner and appropriate WebSphere and Content Management performance guides for more information.

  • Customers seeking to order new licenses of Content Manager V8.2, Content Manager OnDemand V7.1, and Content Manager VideoCharger V8.2 can order these offerings through the Content Manager V8.2 product.
  • With one Content Manager server license, customers are authorized to install one Content Manager VideoCharger server. All additional VideoCharger servers must be licensed separately.
  • Effective August 9, 2002, Gateway licensing was withdrawn from marketing. Each previously licensed Gateway license ordered prior to the withdrawal is entitled to 15 concurrent users. As an example, if you had 5 gateways, at your maintenance anniversary date, your renewal will be based upon 75 concurrent users (5 x 15).
  • IBM DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 (formerly EIP) is included in the Content Manager V8.2 package with a limited use license.
  • A Content Manager server license does not include authorization to install Content Manager OnDemand and/or DB2 Information Integrator for Content Advanced Workflow. Each instance of Content Manager, Content Manager OnDemand, and Advanced Workflow requires separate licensing. As an example, installing one Content Manager server and one Content Manager OnDemand server and one Advanced Workflow server equals three Content Manager server licenses.
  • Content Manager for OS/390® (V2.3), Content Manager ImagePlus® for OS/390 (V3.1), and Content Manager OnDemand for z/OS™ and OS/390 (V7.1 or V2.1) customers who need the Content Manager eClient, and its prerequisite federated and/or direct search connectors, previously purchased via the EIP Client Kit for Content Manager, should purchase one Content Manager V8.2 server license and media pack to obtain appropriate licensing and program media.

All orders for this product are placed through Passport Advantage.

  • You should order the appropriate number of License and Maintenance (1 Year or 2 Year) authorizations that meet your requirements.
  • Media packs must be ordered separately from program licensing to receive shipment of the appropriate program media.
  • If you are currently licensed for Content Manager for Multiplatforms, your active Maintenance entitles you to the new Content Manager for Multiplatforms V8.2. If you do not receive an automatic shipment of CM V8.2, you may call the Passport Advantage Maintenance center and request shipment of the Content Manager V8.2 media pack.
  • If you are currently licensed for EIP V8.1, your active Software Maintenance agreement entitles you to the new IBM DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2. If you do not receive an automatic shipment of DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2, you may call the Passport Advantage support desk to request a copy.
  • If you are currently licensed but are not on active Software Maintenance, you may purchase Maintenance After License to become eligible or entitled to request the new Content Manager for Multiplatforms V8.2 media pack.
  • If you are currently licensed for these programs and on active Software Maintenance, you should order Maintenance Renewal to remain on active Maintenance.

Explanation of Terms

Content Manager Server

Your license to the program entitles you to install one instance of one of the following solutions: Content Manager, Content Manager OnDemand, or the DB2 Information Integrator for Content Advanced Workflow program server. If you wish to install additional program server instances on the same or on additional physical servers or nodes, you must acquire additional Proofs of Entitlement (PoEs).

Definitions of an Instance

Content Manager — Each Content Manager Library Server is defined as one instance, and includes the right to install one Content Manager Resource Manager and one Content Manager VideoCharger server, each installed on the same or on a separate physical server or node. Each additional Content Manager Resource Manager installed, after the first Resource Manager per Library Server, is defined as one instance. Each additional Content Manager VideoCharger server installed must be licensed through the Content Manager VideoCharger Component.

Content Manager OnDemand — Each Content Manager OnDemand Library Server is defined as one instance, and includes the right to install one Content Manager OnDemand Object Server, each installed on the same or on a separate physical server or node. Each additional Content Manager OnDemand Object Server installed, after the first Object Server per Library Server, is defined as one instance.

DB2 Information Integrator for Content Advanced Workflow — Each WebSphere MQ Workflow Server, installed in conjunction with the Advanced Workflow, is defined as one instance.

Content Manager Concurrent User

You must acquire an authorization for each concurrent user. The number of concurrent users is defined as the maximum or peak number of users connected to the program servers at one time. Each user connection is considered to be active, and therefore concurrent, for 30 minutes after logon or any transaction against the server. If the user invokes any transaction activity within a 30-minute interval, they will continue to be considered an active concurrent user. If the connected user remains inactive for a period of greater than 30 minutes, they will no longer be considered an active concurrent user, until they re-establish an active connection by invoking a transaction against the server.

The number of actual concurrent users may not exceed the number authorized by the quantity of concurrent user licenses you have purchased. Each Content Manager concurrent user license authorizes one individual user to connect to one Content Manager and/or Content Manager OnDemand program server across any of the following platforms: Windows NT, Windows 2000, AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, OS/390, and z/OS.

The definition of a concurrent user includes all users, either within or outside your enterprise, who establish one or more connections to any Content Manager or Content Manager OnDemand program server. These connections may be either direct or through a surrogate or application server (using common techniques such as end user mapping or connection pooling). Employees, clients, partners, and Internet users who make a connection via either an application or client are all counted as concurrent users.

For example, if you have 300 users, and all of these users will interact with the program server once every 10 minutes, then you require 300 concurrent user licenses. Each user is concurrent because they have made a transaction within the 30-minute window.

In another example, if you have 300 users, and all of these users will interact with the program server once every hour, with user transactions evenly balanced over the hour, it is expected you would require 150 concurrent user licenses. Since each user is making only one transaction during the hour period, only half the users would have made a transaction within the 30-minute window and would be inactive at other times.

If the user access pattern cannot be predicted at time of initial purchase, then the best estimate of users and activity levels should be calculated, and after implementation, actual usage patterns should be monitored to validate licensing requirements versus authorizations, so that you can true-up the license periodically. To support this activity validation, IBM provides monitoring tools for individual user connectivity to the servers in the program server logs. If connections are made via an application server or Web server, where individuals are not directly logged onto the servers, you should implement a monitoring tool such as WebSphere Site Analyzer to track the number of concurrent users who are accessing the servers via your front-end application.

Content Manager VideoCharger Component

Each license of the Content Manager VideoCharger Component entitles you to install one Content Manager VideoCharger server. A separate media pack exists for this item. It is possible to order only the VideoCharger Component of Content Manager.

Content Manager OnDemand PDF Indexer

Your license to the Content Manager OnDemand PDF Indexer entitles you to install and use the PDF Indexer component to support definition and capture of PDF data streams on one Content Manager OnDemand Server (Windows NT, Windows 2000, AIX, HP-UX, or Sun Solaris). If you wish to capture PDF data streams on additional Content Manager OnDemand Servers, you must purchase additional Proofs of Entitlement. This item does not have a separate media pack. Refer to Software Announcement 202-147 , dated June 11, 2002, for further details.

Content Manager Entry Offering

The IBM DB2 Content Manager Entry Offering provides an affordable way for small businesses to incorporate customer information, order details, payables records, inventory levels, legal files, and much more into a centralized electronic content repository, with easy user search and retrieval using standard Windows clients or browser access. The Entry Offering is well-suited to smaller customer implementations as well as test systems, as it is priced per concurrent user.

Your license to the Content Manager Entry Offering entitles you to install, from the program package, the Content Manager program server, the Content Manager OnDemand program server, and the IBM DB2 Information Integrator for Content program server or any combination of servers as required to support your licensed Content Manager Entry Offering Concurrent Users. The Content Manager Entry Offering does not include a license to use VideoCharger or Advanced Workflow. You must acquire an authorization for each Content Manager Entry Offering Concurrent User. Refer to the Explanation of Terms section of this announcement for a full explanation and definition of a concurrent user.

IBM DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2

Charge Structure: Per Processor, plus Optional Per Server Feature

Your license to the program entitles you to install the program on a single server running a single processor. If you wish to install the program on a multiprocessor server you must acquire additional Proof of Entitlements for each additional processor on the server. If you wish to install any of the following components of the program on additional servers, you must acquire additional Proof of Entitlements for each processor on each server where any of the following components are installed.

DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 is a modular product. In customer configurations, individual components of DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 can be distributed and installed on separate individual machines. When ordering Proofs of Entitlement (POEs) to license the use of DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2, there are key factors that must be considered.

Different components of DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 software can be installed on separate machines. DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 licensing requires PoEs for the total number of processors on all servers where core components are installed and run.

There are four core components of DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 that require separate licensing whenever deployed in different machines. These components can be run under one DB2 Information Integrator for Content license if run in the same machine. Once deployed in different machines, each component must be considered a DB2 Information Integrator for Content license under the DB2 Information Integrator for Content licensing terms. The four DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 components that require licensing under these conditions are:

  • Administration Component
  • IBM Lotus Extended Search Component
  • Information Mining Component (including Web Crawler)
  • Advanced Workflow Component

The DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 Administration Component is defined as the DB2 Information Integrator for Content base function required for running DB2 Information Integrator for Content applications. Customers must minimally acquire PoEs for the number of processors where the IBM DB2 Information Integrator for Content Administration Component, as defined below, is installed.

Examples of components that may, in certain circumstances, be installed without additional PoEs include IBM DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 Connector Components and the DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 Toolkit. The DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 Connector Components may be installed on any server or client within the configuration without additional PoEs, as long as the Administration Component is licensed and installed on at least one machine. (An exception to this rule is the Panagon Image Services Connector, which requires a separate license.) The DB2 Information Integrator for Content Toolkit may also be installed for use by application developers without additional PoEs, as long as the Administration Component is licensed and installed on at least one machine.

For example, a customer may install the DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 Administration and Information Mining Components on one server, individual Connectors on separate servers, and the DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 Toolkit on another server for application development. In this case, the customer must acquire PoEs only for the number of processors on the server where the Administration and Information Mining Components are installed.

But in some configurations, for example those that do not require federated search capabilities, the Administration Database may not be required and need not be installed. In these cases, the Administration Component must still be licensed, but it is defined as the minimal set of DB2 Information Integrator for Content software that must be installed to run your application. For example, the minimal required code might be a single instance of a Connector or an RMI server without an Administration Database. In these configurations, licensing of the Administration Component means obtaining PoEs for each processor on the server or client where that minimal set of software is installed.

For example, a simple application using DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 to access a single instance of Panagon Image Services Connector might only require the installation of the DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 Panagon Image Services Connector to run (no Administration Database). In this case, the minimal set of software required would be a single instance of the connector. Therefore, in this case licensing of the Administration Component means obtaining PoEs for the number of processors on one of the servers or clients where the DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 Panagon Image Services Connector is installed as well as a server license for the Panagon Image Services Connector.

Optional Server Feature — Panagon Image Services Connector. Each license for the Content Connector for Panagon Image Services program entitles you to install the program on any combination of servers and clients as required to access a single Panagon Image Services Server that is configured for access through the DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 Administration Component. You must acquire an additional license for each additional Panagon Image Services Server that is configured for access through the DB2 Information Integrator for Content V8.2 Administration Component.

IBM Content Manager for Multiplatforms V8.2 and DB2 Information Integrator for Content are available through the IBM Passport Advantage Program electronic Software Delivery (eSD) tool.
