WBI Server is designed to:
Comprehensive tooling is included for the technology components to generate the artifacts required for a comprehensive enterprise integration solution, (including, for example, process collaborations, workflows, message flows, and business objects). The overall architecture enables projects to be designed and implemented based on the concept of separation of function.
This means that WBI Server is particularly suited for solving integration problems through incremental implementation. The advanced architecture of WBI Server gives companies the greatest opportunity to reuse packaged application business logic or in-house application logic, as well as any process routines previously built to implement middleware logic. IBM WBI Server is now comprised of the following components:
Also included are the following components from IBM WebSphere Business Integration Adapters:
Limited use licenses for IBM DB2 V8.1 and IBM WebSphere MQ V5.3 are included for the needs of the WBI Server components. Full licenses should be purchased for any other purpose than specified in the license. A broad range of optional complimentary products that accelerate the delivery of WBI Server solutions are recommended. Accelerators for Your Business Success IBM provides a wide range of complementary products and support packs that make the implementation of WBI solutions faster and smoother and that can help organizations realize a faster return on their integration investments. IBM WebSphere Business Integration Adapters Connecting to popular commercial application packages is an important and frequent requirement of integration projects. The WBI Adapters pull information from the various systems that support business activities, such as packaged and legacy applications, databases, customer-facing Web sites, trading partners' systems, and even public information stores on the Web. IBM WebSphere Business Integration Collaborations Businesses in many industries are using WBI to solve a wide range of business challenges. What we have learned is that there is a set of six common application areas that occur in many industries.
These operational areas are likely to require significant integration of processes and applications that run across a range of critical business functions. IBM offers a range of tested and proven business-savvy collaborations that provide a ready-to-use set of best-practices processes to resolve common business issues associated with these areas. When combined with the application-savvy WBI Adapters from IBM, they provide a complete solution for a range of business issues. IBM customers in many industries have solved their integration challenges using IBM ready-to-use collaborations. IBM WebSphere Business Integration for Industries For selected industries, IBM has developed a number of specialized implementations of WBI by making available prebuilt integration for the finance, retail, insurance, distribution, manufacturing, e-commerce and telecommunications, electronics (RosettaNet), and healthcare (HIPAA).
This prebuilt integration includes industry-specific business objects and
templates for business process collaborations, workflows, and
applications adapters for packaged application solutions that are widely
used in that industry. These industry-specific business objects and
templates leverage the foundation provided in the WBI platform. WBI for
Industries provides a solution focused on specific industry requirements
and can further accelerate project implementation and help improve the
return on investment of the integration project.
Accessibility by People with DisabilitiesThese offerings do not fully support use by people with disabilities. However, these offerings are largely compatible with the accessibility features included with the operating systems. Product PositioningWebSphere Business Integration is a comprehensive business integration platform that enables businesses to implement very rapid solutions to specific integration problems, and then grow with the requirements to solve complex business integration problems requiring a wide variety of integration capabilities. WBI provides, in one offering, a business integration platform that can be used to:
A business integration platform can help you meet a wide range of integration needs:
These diverse needs imply a wide spectrum of integration requirements from straightforward application connectivity to full business process integration and include extending solutions beyond the traditional boundaries of the enterprise. Application connectivity addresses the requirements for connecting various applications, allowing information to be shared and used across the heterogeneous application systems typically found in the enterprise. Business process integration allows the business to control and coordinate activities across various process constituents, people and applications, internal and external to the enterprise, in ways that fully and efficiently implement defined business processes. With WBI Server V4.2 businesses can start small, scale rapidly, support multiple platforms, and implement a reusable open integration infrastructure that spans departmental initiatives, and evolves as more projects emerge, becoming the integration backbone of whole enterprise. With IBM's open, modular, standards-based WebSphere middleware, businesses can decide which project to implement first, and achieve the end-to-end integration with a phased approach. WebSphere Business Integration Toolset provides comprehensive tooling to generate the artifacts required for an enterprise integration solution, (including, for example, process collaborations, workflows, message flows, and business objects). The WBI overall architecture enables projects to be designed and implemented based on the concept of separation of function:
This means that WBI V4.2 is particularly suited for solving integration problems through incremental implementation. The advanced architecture of WBI gives companies the greatest opportunity to reuse packaged application business logic and in-house application logic, as well as any process routines previously built to implement middleware logic. Planning InformationCustomer Responsibilities: The customer must provide the minimum hardware and software environments on which the licensed programs reside. The customer must identify the machines on which they will install IBM WBI Server V4.2. The customer or program provider will identify the number of processors in each machine and then calculate the total number of processor license units (PLUs) required. Problem determination (PD) is a customer responsibility. PD is an assessment of whether a problem is caused by hardware or software. PD is complete only when the cause of the problem is identified. This assessment includes examination of available symptoms using the PD procedures documented in the product. Problem source identification (PSI) is a customer responsibility. PSI begins when software is determined to be the source of the problem. PSI includes tracing the source of the program to a host system control program (SCP), an application program, or another source. Assisting the customer with PSI is an IBM service and support responsibility. Direct Customer Support: For support, new customers with Passport Advantage contracts should call 800-IBM-SERV (426-7378). For technical support or assistance, go to the following Web site or contact your IBM representative for additional assistance.

Product Category:

Per Processor ChargesIn response to your feedback, it is simpler to do business with IBM. You will now pay for IBM software licenses on a per-processor basis for IBM WBI Server V4.2. This is a change from the per-capacity unit model of charging for software. You should expect no general increase or decrease in net costs. However, any change in cost will depend on your unique circumstances, relating to the number of processors in your machine. The change is effective now for all new orders, but does not affect existing licenses until the next Software Maintenance renewal. If you do not have a Software Maintenance contract, you are not affected by this change and should continue using your programs under the capacity-unit terms. Further information is available at: Charges: Charges for authorized use of the program are based on Processor License Units (PLUs). The use of the program on any server machine requires one PLU to be acquired (from IBM or an IBM Business Partner) for each processor contained in the server machine on which any copy of the program is to run. PLUs are required for every server machine on which the program is installed. You are also required to obtain a corresponding number of additional PLUs if the program installation is moved to a server machine with a greater number of processors, or if any additional processors are added to the server machine on which the program is installed. Failure to comply with the requirement for the appropriate number of PLUs will constitute a material breach of the terms of this license and will automatically terminate your rights in connection therewith. For Software Maintenance renewals for deployments on servers of five processors and greater, and new software purchases for deployments on servers of five processors and greater, you are eligible for special bid on the software. Contact your IBM representative. Also refer to the license information supplied with your updated copy of the program. Transferability: Users who upgrade from an earlier release of the program under Passport Advantage can use their existing capacity units and then acquire additional PLUs to satisfy the requirements given below. The capacity units from the previous release will be converted to PLUs (at a rate of two capacity units to one PLU) and counted as all or part of the customer entitlement. Any "spare" capacity units can be used towards other program entitlement, at the time of renewal reconciliation, but are not refundable. Capacity units for the products announced as moving to PLUs will be withdrawn from marketing on May 5, 2003. Users should retain their original product and capacity units as Proof of Entitlement (PoE). Note that the pricing is based on the number of processors in the server machine, regardless of whether they are all being used to execute the program. Migration: Existing and new customers may acquire updated media packs soon after the products become generally available under the new terms. Migration for customers who have existing capacity unit license entitlements will be at the time of Software Maintenance renewal. A standard conversion rate of two capacity units to one processor license unit will be used. In the majority of situations, this conversion will ensure that users have the correct number of entitlements. However, where machines have five or more processors (and in a few other cases), the standard conversion will not give the required number of licenses. In this case, when contacted by IBM, you should discuss acquiring additional entitlements so that you are correctly licensed under the new pricing model. You will not be charged for additional licenses granted under this process, but the Software Maintenance renewal prices will be amended, based on the number of entitlements needed.
For Software Maintenance renewals for deployments on servers of five
processors and greater, and new software purchases for deployments on
servers of five processors and greater, you are eligible for special bid
on the software.
