Also new to this version is the ability to deploy the IBM WebSphere Business Integration Monitor on mainframe-class servers running the secure, stable, and scalable z/OS™ operating system.

IBM WebSphere Business Integration Modeler and Monitor software consists of four products:

IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench

IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench is an application that provides robust functionality for process modeling, enterprise modeling, business process analysis, and workflow translation.

IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench helps you model a process and enterprise, model the applications and design GUIs, analyze the process, and translate the process for workflow automation.

Business analysis is one of the critical and most useful functionalities of IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench. Many business process modeling efforts stop at developing flow diagrams or process maps; however, with IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench, the effort is extended to include analysis, redesign, application development, and automation.

IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench includes a UML modeler and an Xform designer.

Comprised of highly innovative components, IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench helps you:

  • Model business processes and capture the flow of work through the enterprise
  • Create process models, workflow models, and official company procedures that have an extended life cycle
  • Develop extendable process models within a single tool and build a common language for communicating process elements and requirements throughout your company
  • Support and implement enterprise initiatives, such as:
    • Workflow automation
    • Policy and procedure documentation
    • Application development
  • Gain a true understanding of the performance capabilities of the process through implementation of performance measures, detailed cost, and time metrics
  • Generate detailed comparisons and cost justifications between the "as-is" and "to-be" business process model
  • Identify bottlenecks and determine appropriate resource allocation for short-term changes in volume, using animated simulation
  • Model business process-driven applications
  • Identify the application specification and requirements for more effective applications
  • Convert UML diagrams and export them for use in other application development tools, such as Rational Rose

    • Enterprise data structures — UML Classes
    • Business process model — UML Activity Diagram
    • Business process activities — UML Use Cases
    • Business process roles — UML Use Case Actors
  • Design business process-driven user interfaces specified by the user profile within the process

IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench helps you:

  • Automatically expand a high-level process into a larger "end-to-end" process
  • Schedule processes and view GANTT charts
  • Automate validation of process models
  • Capture organizational policies, procedures, business rules, goals, and issues
  • Define resource allocation across the enterprise and locate allocations to the activities in the business processes

IBM WebSphere Business Integration Monitor

IBM WebSphere Business Integration Monitor helps track processes and business performance measures and generate statistical reports for analysis based on actual data. In addition, IBM WebSphere Business Integration Monitor facilitates completion of the cycle of business process improvement by feeding actual information back to IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench for further analysis and process redesign. This provides the basis for business process management, which leads the process into a continuous improvement cycle.

The basic function of IBM WebSphere Business Integration Monitor is to track events generated by WebSphere MQ Workflow and apply them to a process model that was developed in IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench. The process model serves as a basis for visualizing the performance of the process as it happens, in real time. You can see what activities are being performed, who is performing them, and where there are bottlenecks.

IBM WebSphere Business Integration Monitor consists of two components:

  • Workflow Dashboard

Workflow Dashboard helps you track processes, work items, and business performance measures (modeled in IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench) in real time and take corrective actions. Upon invocation of a corrective action, Workflow Dashboard will then issue a command to WebSphere MQ Workflow via the appropriate APIs.

    Workflow Dashboard helps you:

    • Track a process and its business performance in real time
    • View process instances and activity instances
    • Perform administrative duties and corrective actions, such as suspending, terminating, and load balancing
    • Monitor current processes and identify their performance measures in real time
    • Export data to process models in Workflow Dashboard
    • Enhance workflow alert system and event reporting based on user-defined business measures
    • Provide event storage and reporting
    • Offer a J2EE-based application designed for deployment using WebSphere Application Server

  • Business Dashboard

Business Dashboard is used to generate reports based on historical data. It offers a set of analytical tools such as trend and quartile analyses.

    Business Dashboard helps you:

    • Generate comprehensive, detailed, customizable statistics based on historical process data and business performance measures
    • Produce performance-oriented decision making that enables management to proactively manage the business process to optimize performance
    • Provide user-defined performance measures that include financial, cost, time, and utilization
    • Offer trend and quartile analyses capabilities
    • Provide actual data export to IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench, allowing IBM WebSphere Business Integration Workbench to perform analysis on actual data
    • Offer external visibility that can be authorized for external entities affected by the process
    • Make available actual versus estimated statistical information for analysis and redesign of business processes
    • Offer a J2EE-based application designed for deployment using WebSphere Application Server

Product Group: WebSphere

Product Identifier Description: IBM WebSphere Business Integration Modeler and Monitor V4.2.3 (5724-E46)

Product Category: WebSphere Business Integration

In response to customer feedback, IBM continues to simplify the way we do business with customers. Customers will now pay for IBM software licenses per processor for IBM WebSphere Business Integration Modeler and Monitor V4.2.3.

This is a change from the per-capacity-unit model. While we expect no general increase or decrease in net costs to customers, whether there is any change in cost depends on each customer's unique circumstances, specifically relating to the number of processors in the machine.

The change is effective immediately for all new orders but does not affect existing licenses until their next maintenance renewal.

Customers who do not have maintenance are not affected and should continue using their programs under the capacity unit terms.

Charges for authorized use of the program are based on Processor License Units (PLUs). The use of the program on any server machine requires one PLU to be acquired (from IBM or an IBM Business Partner) for each processor contained in the server machine on which any copy of the program is to run. PLUs are required for every server machine on which the program is installed. You are also required to obtain a corresponding number of additional PLUs if the program installation is moved to a server machine with a greater number of processors, or if any additional processors are added to the server machine on which the program is installed.

Failure to comply with the requirement for the appropriate number of PLUs will constitute a material breach of this license and will automatically terminate your rights hereunder.

Licensing for machines that have five or more processors are eligible for Special Bid. Contact your IBM representative. Also refer to the Terms and Conditions supplied with your updated copy of the program.

For details on the licensing information, refer to:

Transferability

Users who upgrade from an earlier release of the program under Passport Advantage can use their existing capacity units and then acquire additional PLUs to satisfy the requirements given below. The capacity units from the previous release will be converted to PLUs (at a rate of two capacity units to one PLU) and counted as all or part of the customer entitlement.

Any "spare" capacity units can be used toward other program entitlement at the time of renewal reconciliation, but are not refundable.

Capacity units for the products that have been announced as moving to PLUs will be withdrawn from marketing on May 5, 2003.

Users should retain their original product and capacity units as Proof of Entitlement.

Note that the pricing is based on the number of processors in the server machine, regardless of whether they are all being used to execute the program.

Migration

Existing customers will receive updated media packs soon after the products become generally available under the new terms.

Migration for customers who have existing capacity unit license entitlements will be at the time of maintenance renewal. A standard conversion rate of two capacity units to one processor license unit will be used. In the majority of situations, this conversion will ensure that users have the correct number of licenses on the processor license unit metric. However, where machines have five or more processors (and in a few other cases), the standard conversion will not give the required number of licenses. In this case, when contacted by IBM, you should discuss acquiring additional licenses in order to be correctly licensed under the new pricing model. You will not be charged for additional licenses granted under this process, but maintenance renewal prices will be based on the number of licensed processors.

Licensing for machines with five or more processors are eligible for Special Bid. For additional information visit:

Installation and technical support for the product being announced is provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service enhances customer productivity by providing voice and/or electronic access into the IBM support organizations.

IBM includes Software Maintenance with each program acquired during the coverage period. The coverage period means the period commencing on the date you acquire the program up to the first or second anniversary date, depending on whether you acquired coverage for one or two anniversaries. The coverage period for Software Maintenance acquired in the two months preceding an anniversary date will be extended to the next applicable anniversary date.

While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your (1) routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions; and (2) code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Guide at:

Software Maintenance does not include assistance for (1) the design and development of applications, (2) your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or (3) failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under this agreement.
