IBM WebSphere InterChange Server V4.2.1, IBM WebSphere Business Integration Toolset V4.2.1, and IBM WebSphere Business Integration Collaborations (HP-UX support):
DescriptionWebSphere InterChange Server V4.2IBM WebSphere InterChange Server V4.2 (InterChange Server) is the follow on release to IBM CrossWorlds InterChange Server V4.1. The IBM CrossWorlds technology is rebranded as WebSphere technology. InterChange Server is now a component of IBM WebSphere Business Integration Server V4.2. It addresses the need for efficiency and flexibility in automating and synchronizing business activities executed across multiple applications as business processes. National Language Support: National Language Support is extended from U.S. English and Japanese to include French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Platform Support: Platform support is extended from Windows® 2000, Windows NT®, AIX®, and Solaris to include HP-UX. Availability: High availability configurations for Windows NT and Solaris platforms are extended to include AIX and Windows 2000. Database: Database support is provided for MS SQL Server, DB2® V8.1, or later, and Oracle V8.1.7. Messaging Support: The InterChange Server supports WebSphere MQ V5.3. Access options: Licensed, programmable interfaces for direct synchronous connection between the InterChange Server and component applications hosted by an application server, such as WebSphere Application Server, have been rebranded, as follows, to avoid confusion with Adapter Framework naming:
Remote Agent Capability: Serverless Trading Agent is not supported in this release. Serverless Trading Agent was a licensed feature providing an HTTP/S solution to remotely connect CrossWorlds Connectors to the InterChange Server through a firewall. It is replaced by Remote Agent, a no-charge feature of the InterChange Server, that uses features of WebSphere MQ V5.3 with optional firewall tunnelling support of WebSphere MQ Internet pass-thru. WebSphere MQ Internet pass-thru (MQIPT) is a WebSphere MQ base product extension that can be used to implement messaging solutions between remote sites across the Internet. It makes the passage of WebSphere MQ channel protocols into and out of a firewall simpler and more manageable by tunnelling the protocols inside HTTP or by acting as a proxy. Flow Control: Flow control enhancements have been implemented that can be configured to throttle event delivery from adapters to the InterChange Server, based on the available memory in the system, allocated to specific collaborations. It can stop a resource-hungry collaboration from depriving other critical processes of resources, and degrading overall performance. Together with tooling to configure thresholds, this can improve control of over service levels. Recovery Optimization: Optimizations have been implemented to improve recovery of business processes after a server failure so that key business processes preserve event sequences and may be recovered with minimum disruption. Levels of service possible will still be dependent on the nature of the recovery.
Long Lived Processes:
Enhancements have been implemented to enable process transactions, such
as RosettaNet PIPS, to more easily scale by refining the mechanism by
which a thread context is saved and restored. Configurable parameters
for specifying the time to wait for a response within a business process
provide the ability to design a single collaboration such that a business
object is sent out (for example, to a trading partner), and subsequently
waits for a reply that may occur hours or even days later. These
processes can be monitored with manual override useful, for example,
where a trading partner's system continues to fail to respond. The
ability to save and restore context also enables InterChange Server to
interoperate more efficiently and flexibly with a workflow engine.
WebSphere Business Integration ToolsetIBM WebSphere Business Integration Toolset V4.2 replaces the IBM CrossWorlds Full Toolkit and delivers a new, extensible, solution studio workbench based on the Eclipse open standard for tooling. The studio provides a team-based, visual design environment and provides the option for source code management provided by a third party program. The System Manager has been re-implemented within the Eclipse framework. An integrated test environment is introduced providing the ability to connect the studio to an InterChange Server, automatically deploy select components to the server, and to then run sample test data through a business process. After the test run has completed, users may drill down on any point in the business process to review specific data values that passed through the business process be it going into a map, coming out of a map, into business processes, or out of a business process. Test runs can be re-run, as needed, with varying data, to help ensure a business process is fully tested before it is deployed in a live environment. This release of the integrated test environment requires an InterChange Server to be installed on the same machine as the toolset for testing purposes. The Process and Map Designers have been enhanced with an Activity Editor that provides a graphical and declarative tool to insert additional logic such as applying string and mathematical functions when customizing collaborations. The Process Designer now has WSDL and BPEL4WS import/export capability to enhance portability of process models with third party tools. This release introduces a new Web-based system monitoring console to manage InterChange Servers via a Web browser and Web server (such as WebSphere Application Server). Providing monitoring and management capabilities securely over the Internet can be a critical requirement for virtually every customer be it a customer managing a large multi-national deployment or a smaller customer simply trying to manage single installation during off hours. We provide the ability to monitor the key components of the InterChange Server and the ability to manage (for example, Start, Stop, Pause) these components from a Web browser. The Web-based interface will provide both table and graphical "widget"-based views, with many pre-configured monitors provided "out-of-box", capable of managing multiple InterChange Servers, their collaborations, adapters and more. A graphical wizard for assembling new monitors is provided. The original Windows-based system monitor is still retained to ease migration for existing users.
The Connector Development Kit (CDK) is not included in this release.
Connectors are replaced by WebSphere Business Integration Adapters. The
WebSphere Business Integration Adapter Development Kit is sold
separately, on a per-user basis, for adapter development.

Product Group: WebSphere InterChange Server Product Identifier Description (PID) WebSphere InterChange Server V4.2 5724-E30 WebSphere Business Integration Toolset V4.2 5724-C13 WebSphere Business Integration Collaborations 5724-C12 Product Category: WebSphere Business Integration Per Processor ChargesIn response to your feedback, it is simpler to do business with IBM. You will now pay for IBM software licenses on a per-processor basis for IBM WebSphere InterChange Server V4.2. This is a change from the per-capacity unit model of charging for software. Note: The current IBM CrossWorlds InterChange Server license entitlement refers to value units and not capacity units. Capacity units, which are referenced throughout this announcement, are the same as value units. You should expect no general increase or decrease in net costs. However, any change in cost will depend on your unique circumstances, relating to the number of processors in your machine. The change is effective now for all new orders but does not affect existing licenses until the next Software Maintenance renewal. If you do not have a Software Maintenance contract, you are not affected by this change and should continue using your programs under the capacity-unit terms. Further information is available at: ChargesCharges for authorized use of the program are based on Processor License Units (PLUs). The use of the program on any server machine requires one PLU to be acquired (from IBM or an IBM Business Partner) for each processor contained in the server machine on which any copy of the program is to run. PLUs are required for every server machine on which the program is installed. You are also required to obtain a corresponding number of additional PLUs if the program installation is moved to a server machine with a greater number of processors, or if any additional processors are added to the server machine on which the program is installed. Failure to comply with the requirement for the appropriate number of PLUs will constitute a material breach of the terms of this license and will automatically terminate your rights in connection therewith. For Software Maintenance renewals for deployments on servers of five processors and greater, and new software purchases for deployments on servers of five processors and greater, you are eligible for special bid on the software. Contact your IBM representative.
Also refer to the License Information supplied with your updated copy of
the program.
TransferabilityUsers who upgrade from an earlier release of the program under Passport Advantage can use their existing capacity units and then acquire additional PLUs to satisfy the requirements given below. The capacity units from the previous release will be converted to PLUs (at a rate of two capacity units to one PLU) and counted as all or part of the customer entitlement. Any "spare" capacity units can be used towards other program entitlement, at the time of renewal reconciliation, but are not refundable. Capacity units for the products, announced as moving to PLUs, will be withdrawn from marketing on May 5, 2003.
Users should retain their original product and capacity units as Proof of
Entitlement (PoE). Note that the pricing is based on the number of
processors in the server machine, regardless of whether they are all
being used to execute the program.
MigrationExisting and new customers may acquire updated media packs soon after the products become generally available under the new terms. Migration for customers who have existing capacity unit license entitlements will be at the time of Software Maintenance renewal. A standard conversion rate of two capacity units to one processor license unit will be used. In the majority of situations, this conversion will ensure that users have the correct number of entitlements. However, where machines have five or more processors (and in a few other cases), the standard conversion will not give the required number of licenses. In this case, when contacted by IBM, you should discuss acquiring additional entitlements so that you are correctly licensed under the new pricing model. You will not be charged for additional licenses granted under this process, but the Software Maintenance renewal prices will be amended, based on the number of entitlements needed.
For Software Maintenance renewals for deployments on servers of five
processors and greater, and new software purchases for deployments on
servers of five processors and greater, you are eligible for special bid
on the software.
IBM WebSphere InterChange ServerThe IBM WebSphere InterChange Server offers a scalable pricing structure that requires licensing according to the run-time use on server machines. All processors running IBM WebSphere InterChange Server in your organization require an IBM WebSphere InterChange Server license. The license charge depends on the number of processors per server to cover the IBM WebSphere InterChange Server installed in each licensed user's organization. Each licensed user is required to acquire processor authorizations to use IBM WebSphere InterChange Server on each machine and machine upgrade. If a licensed user changes the processor or machine which runs the IBM WebSphere InterChange Server, the licensed user agrees to notify IBM or its reseller. IBM WebSphere InterChange Server requires one processor authorization per processor contained within each machine on which the server is installed. The following server connectivity features are also provided:
IBM WebSphere Business Integration ToolsetAn IBM WebSphere InterChange Server license or an IBM WebSphere Business Integration Server license is required as a prerequisite for the deployment of IBM WebSphere Business Integration Toolset. IBM WebSphere Business Integration Toolset requires a concurrent user license. A single license entitles you to deploy one copy of each component of the toolset on a single machine. Additional concurrent user licenses are required to allow additional users to simultaneously use the installed copy of the toolset or to install another copy of the toolset on a separate machine.
When you use IBM WebSphere Business Integration Toolset to create a
program, it imbeds IBM licensed software into your program. You may use
the imbedded IBM licensed software only in conjunction with a licensed
IBM WebSphere InterChange Server or IBM WebSphere Business Integration
Server.
IBM WebSphere Business Integration CollaborationsAn IBM WebSphere InterChange Server license or an IBM WebSphere Business Integration Server license is required as a prerequisite for the deployment of IBM WebSphere Business Integration Collaborations. Each IBM WebSphere Business Integration Collaboration deployed requires a collaboration instance license. To deploy an additional instance of the same collaboration, an additional license is required. A collaboration instance license entitles two applications to be connected by the collaboration. For each additional application to be connected by a collaboration, an additional IBM WebSphere Business Integration Collaboration Additional Connection license is required. Additional connections do not apply to collaborations licensed under the IBM WebSphere Business Integration Collaboration for RosettaNet PIPs offering. IBM WebSphere Business Integration Collaboration for RosettaNet PIPs is a generic collaboration authorization which must be acquired for each of the following RosettaNet PIPs collaborations:
An IBM WebSphere Business Integration Collaboration Foundation license
must be acquired for each collaboration which is developed based upon
templates provided with the foundation.
