Overview

VSE & VM customers can have a powerful relational database solution enabling business intelligence solutions for the enterprise with:

  • Increased availability
    • Support for alternate logging
    • Ability to cancel and immediately release the resources for a TCP/IP agent connected to DB2® Server for VM
  • Compatibility with DB2 Universal Database® (UDB) V8.1 with the capability to access DB2 Server for VSE & VM databases, including stored procedures from CLI/ODBC/JDBC/OLE client applications

Description

Alternate Logging

  • Support for an inactive log to take over when the active log reaches the ARCHPCT value

Compatibility with DB2 UDB V8.1

  • Ability for CLI/ODBC/JDBC/OLE client applications to access DB2 Server for VSE & VM databases, including stored procedures

Force Inactive Users

  • A new operator command, FORCE INACTIVE, to allow inactive users to be forced off when connected to DB2 Server for VM

Cancel TCP/IP

  • DB2 Server for VM detects when a client connected via TCP/IP is disconnected and immediately releases the resources that client is holding.

Release Empty Pages Utility

  • The SQLRELEP EXEC in VM and the STARTUP = P option in VSE allows users to release empty pages in a dbspace without reorganizing their dbspace.

Optional Features Enhancements

  • Control Center for VM enhancements to support new database functionality such as alternate logging and the release empty pages utility
  • Increased security for Control Center for VSE with the removal of a hard-coded user ID and password for connecting to a database
  • Data Restore enhancements to support alternate logging

Improved TCP/IP Messages

  • Enhanced information displayed on a TCP/IP server-side error

Replacement Notice

DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.3 is the replacement for DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.2. Upon availability of DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.3, DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.2 will no longer be marketed.

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

DB2 Server for VSE & VM V7.3 is capable as of March 28, 2003, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.

The DB2 Server for VSE & VM program is the DB2 Family member that provides relational database support for the VSE/ESA, VM/ESA, and z/VM™ operating system environments. It is the basis for a robust e-business environment, because of its reliability, scalability, manageability, and interoperability with e-business platform applications, through DB2 Connect® and WebSphere®.

Technical Information

Hardware Requirements

DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.3 will run on any IBM processor, with the conditional swapping and extended precision floating-point features, supported by one of the following operating systems:

  • VSE/ESA™ V2.5, or later
  • VM/ESA® V2.4, or later
  • z/VM™ V3.1
  • z/VM V4.1, or later (standard engines only)

DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.3 will support all DASD devices supported by the operating systems through VSAM data management facilities (in VSE/ESA) or by VM DASD Block I/O Facilities (in VM/ESA and z/VM). DB2 Server for VM takes advantage of DFSMS/VM® in the VM environment. The DB2 Data Spaces Support option will support all current DASD devices supported by the VM Paging Subsystem.

DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.3 will support, through VSE/ESA, VM/ESA, or z/VM, tape-handling devices supported by those operating systems.

ISQL will support 3270-compatible terminals.

The DBS Utility supports a terminal interface through ICCF and CMS.

In a VM environment, results from ISQL, the interactive facility for DB2 Server for VM, may be printed on any system printer supported by VM, or any remote printer through the RSCS Networking supported by the operating system.

In a VSE environment, ISQL results may be printed on any system-supported printer using VSE/POWER supported by the VSE/ESA operating systems. Any IBM 3270 Information Display System terminal printer supported by the Basic Mapping Support facility of CICS/VSE® or Transaction Server can print the ISQL results.

Software Requirements

DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.3 fully exploits and functions with the optional DB2 features at the V7.3 level (Data Restore and Control Center), RXSQL at the V7.1 level, and QMF™ at the V7.2 level.

In the VM environment, the DB2 Server for VM program product works with the following IBM licensed programs:

  • Virtual Machine/Enterprise Systems Architecture (5654-030) V2.4, or later.
  • z/VM (5654-A17) V3.1.
  • z/VM (5739-A03) V4.1, or later. DB2 Server for VM is licensed for a standard engine environment only and is not supported in a z/VM Version 4 environment running on Integrated Facility for Linux engines.
  • DRDA®-DUOW support requires APPC/VM VTAM® Support (AVS) and Coordinated Resource Recovery (CRR), which are part of VM/ESA V2.3, or later, z/VM V3.1, and z/VM V4.1, or later.

In the VSE/ESA environment, the DB2 Server for VSE program product and its features work with the following IBM licensed programs:

  • Virtual Storage Extended/Enterprise Systems Architecture (5690-VSE) V2.5, or later.
  • As shipped, VSE/ESA consists of a number of base programs. DB2 Server for VSE makes use of the following base program shipped with VSE/ESA V2.5 and later:
    • VSE/VSAM (part of VSE Central Functions V6.3, or later)

Optional:

  • As shipped, VSE/ESA consists of a number of base programs. DB2 Server for VSE may optionally use the following base programs shipped with VSE/ESA V2.5, and later:
    • CICS/VSE (V2.3, and later) or CICS® Transaction Server (V1.1, and later) is required to support:
      • Interactive users
      • CICS transactions
      • Remote Unit of Work (RUOW) application server and application requester functions of Distributed Relational Database Architecture™ (DRDA) over SNA.
      • Distributed Unit of Work (DUOW) application server function of DRDA over SNA.
    • VSE/POWER (part of VSE Central Functions V6.3, or later) is required for online environments doing report writing via ISQL.
    • VSE/ICCF (part of VSE Central Functions V6.3, or later) is required for an interactive program development environment.
    • ACF/VTAM® for VSE/ESA (V4.2, or later) is required to support:
      • RUOW application server and application requester functions of DRDA over SNA
      • DUOW application server function of DRDA over SNA
    • TCP/IP for VSE/ESA, V1.4 Application Pak, or later, is required to support RUOW application server and application requester functions of DRDA over TCP/IP.
    • LE for VSE, V1.4 with PTFs, or later, is required to support RUOW application server and application requester functions of DRDA over TCP/IP.
    • LE for VSE, V1.4.2, or later, is required to support password encryption.
    • CICS/TS for VSE APAR PQ47192 is required to use STGPROT=YES with DB2 Server for VSE & VM. The PTFs for the appropriate releases are:
      • For RA0P, PTF UQ54622 is required.
      • For RB0P, PTF UQ54623 is required.
      • UQ54623 is part of VSE/ESA V2.5.2.

The DB2 Server for VSE & VM licensed program will work with these products, and subsequent releases and modification levels, unless otherwise stated.

Any level of COBOL, PL/I, C, or Assembler current with the operating system can be used.

The level of FORTRAN required is one supported by the VS FORTRAN compiler with the LANGLVL (77) option specified or defaulted.

Compatibility: DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.3 is upwardly compatible with DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.2.

DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.3 is compatible with DB2 Universal Database® (UDB) V8.1 clients. If connecting to a pre-V7.3 DB2 Server for VSE & VM database, a pre-V8.1 DB2 USB client is required.

Limitations: Data Propagator Capture feature, which is included with DB2 Server for VSE & VM, is not compatible with the replication architecture of DB2 UDB V8.

Planning Information

Customer Responsibilities: DB2 Server for VSE, V7.3 uses an access/usage protection method that requires a key to enable the software function.

The password key will always be generated and delivered automatically from IBM accordingly whenever an order is placed for DB2 Server for VSE & VM.

Software Key Management: In exceptional cases (off-line situations), it may be necessary to contact the IBM Registration Center by telephone, fax, mail, or e-mail as appropriate. Note, the IBM Registration Center cannot handle product/license orders. You may contact them only if you already have a license for your software program.

Security, Auditability, and Control

The announced program uses the security and auditability features of the host operating system. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

New Licensees

  • Orders entered with a scheduled date before the planned availability date will be shipped DATABASE 2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.2.
  • Orders entered with a scheduled shipment date after planned availability will be shipped DATABASE 2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.3. Unless a later date is specified, an order is scheduled for the week following order entry.

Shipment will begin on the planned availability date.

  • Orders that ship before the planned availability will receive DATABASE 2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.2.
  • Orders that ship after the planned availability date will receive DATABASE 2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.3.

Expedite shipments will be processed to receive 72-hour delivery from the time IBM Software Delivery and Fulfillment (SDF) receives the order. SDF will then ship the order via overnight air transportation.

Ordering a DSLO feature will result in IBM maintaining a record of this customer location as a DSLO user only. All material for the DSLO license will be provided through the basic license location. Extended License Charge (ELC) Basic License: To order a basic license, specify the appropriate program and feature number, if required, for asset registration. Specify the applicable ELC features. Also, specify the feature number of the desired distribution medium.

Processors with assigned capacity above 80 MSUs will now have DB2 Server for VSE & VM software prices based on the CPU service unit capacity of the processor. The ELC price structure will have a Base Charge for 80 MSU capacity and an incremental Per MSU charge for all additional MSUs above the 80 MSU base.

Terms and Conditions

The terms for DB2 Server for VSE & VM, V7.1, as previously announced (Software Announcement 200-292 , dated September 5, 2000), licensed under the IBM Customer Agreement (ICA) are unaffected by this announcement.

Licensed Documentation: The DB2 Server for VSE & VM Diagnosis Guide and Reference (LC09-2907) licensed material will be available from IBM by March 28, 2003.

One copy is supplied automatically with the basic machine-readable material.

Subsequent updates (technical newsletters or revisions between releases) to the publications shipped with the product will be distributed to the user of record for as long as a license for this software remains in effect. A separate publication order or subscription is not needed.

OTC: Customers who pay an OTC for a licensed program receive enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional charge. Significant new function may be offered as an optional feature and charged for separately.

Variable Charges: The applicable graduated OTC, if applicable, or graduated MLC will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the licensed program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed above, the charge of the next higher group listed applies.

For upgrades of OTC charge licenses to a machine in a higher group, the upgrade charge will be the difference in the then-current charges between the two groups. For downgrades of OTC charge licenses to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of OTC paid.

For upgrades or downgrades of MLC licenses, the MLC applicable to the higher or lower group will apply.

ESL OTC: An OTC authorizes use only on IBM Entry End User/390 Machines.
