Description
Rich J2EE Open Standards Implementations
Full J2EE open standards implementations with rich, turbocharged
enterprise Java implementations are built in with support for the full
range of Java-based APIs and protocols, including:
-
Compliance with Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) 2.0, which adds the definition
of message-driven beans that rely on JMS as the messaging transport for
managing asynchronous transactions
-
Support for JDK 1.3 across operating system platforms
-
Improved Java security APIs in the distributed security model
-
Commands formerly provided through TCL scripts now performed using the
new Java API
Powerful Open Standards Platform
WebSphere Application Server J2EE support simplifies enterprise
applications by basing them on standardized, modular components. These
components can handle many details of application behavior automatically,
often without complex programming. J2EE V1.3, available in WebSphere
Application Server V5, offers simplified business integration via J2EE
connectors and JMS. Container-managed persistence and Java API XML
Programming (JAXP) simplify the development and distribution of
applications.
Messaging Integration JMS Provider
The JMS API improves programmer productivity by defining a common set of
messaging concepts and programming strategies. It simplifies enterprise
development allowing loosely coupled, reliable, asynchronous interactions
among J2EE components and legacy systems capable of messaging. A
developer can easily add new behavior to a J2EE application with existing
business events by adding a new message-driven bean to operate on
specific business events. The JMS provider offers an enterprise
messaging transport infrastructure out of the box for 24 x 7 use of
distributed applications.
Web Services New Features
-
Create distributed applications developed with disparate tools and
architectures over the Web.
-
UDDI Registry is a repository that allows storage of business units to
describe basic services.
-
Users can find information about Web Services acting as a directory of
services.
-
Developers can use rich security to publish and test their internal
e-business applications in a private environment.
-
Web Services Gateway can help reduce development costs to make selected
services available to different divisions within an enterprise, their
customers, or partners either outside the firewall or to anyone who uses
protocols. Developers and IT managers can externalize a Web service so
that it can be invoked by users from outside the firewall.
Availability Database Failover
WebSphere Application Server V5 for iSeries offers a deployment option
with clustering and failover, enabling high availability and continuous
operation of critical enterprise Java applications. An additional
potential single point of failover with DB2® databases is removed in
enterprise Java applications.

directory such as LICENSE.TXT for future reference.
Security, Auditability, and Control
WebSphere Application Server V5 for iSeries uses the security and
auditability features of the iSeries.
The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation
of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls
in application systems and communication facilities.
Ordering Information
Customers with current IBM Software Subscription for iSeries contracts
purchased before February 12, 2002, (5733-SM1, -SM2, -SM3,
-SM4, -SM5, -SMM) are entitled to upgrade to WebSphere Application Server
V5.0 for iSeries if they have a license to a predecessor product
(5733-WA3, 5733-WA4). Customers with current Software Maintenance
(5733-M37 or 5733-M38) are also entitled to upgrade to WebSphere
Application Server V5.0 for iSeries.
WebSphere Application Server V5 for iSeries and WebSphere Application
Server Network Deployment V5 for iSeries are stand-alone products with
one charge unit processors. They are available in units of one.
Unless you agree to subcapacity terms, a license is required for every
processor on each server.
Under full-capacity terms, for example, the prices of WebSphere
Application Server V5 for iSeries and WebSphere Application Server
Network Deployment V5 for iSeries are based on the number of processors
in the system or node executing all or any part of the WebSphere
Application Server V5 application. Four-way symmetric multiprocessor
systems, whether stand-alone systems or nodes in a larger system, require
four WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V5 for iSeries
processor licenses.
WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V5 for iSeries includes a
deployment manager that allows it to manage server clusters. It has an
embedded application server built in for use exclusively by the
deployment manager. You are entitled to install the deployment manager
on the same machine as the base Application Server that comes with the
Network Deployment configuration. To install the deployment manager by
itself on a dedicated machine, you must acquire and allocate a Network
Deployment Proof of Entitlement for each CPU on such machine. Only
application servers that have Network Deployment licenses can be managed
using WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V5.
The flexibility of subcapacity pricing continues to be available for
WebSphere Application Server V5 for iSeries and WebSphere Application
Server Network Deployment V5 for iSeries. You can pay for software based
on the number of processors in each logical partition where the program
is defined (runs) rather than the total number of processors in the
machine.
Subcapacity licensing lets you license a product for use on less than the
full capacity (in processors) of the machine. WebSphere Application
Server V5 for iSeries and WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment
V5 for iSeries can be optionally subcapacity licensed if they are used in
an iSeries logical partition and the following additional requirements
are met for all machines that you choose to subcapacity license this
program. Subcapacity license customers must:
-
Configure their iSeries or AS/400 machines using iSeries Navigator to
enable the collection of software inventory data every 30 days or fewer.
-
Use the Electronic Service Agent for iSeries to send the software
inventory to IBM every 30 days or fewer. This data is used by IBM to
audit for compliance to the license terms and conditions.
Customers who use subcapacity licensing and fail to send software
inventory data to IBM may be subject to additional charges.
Software inventory data must be sent to IBM for every iSeries machine
that has WebSphere Application Server V5 for iSeries and WebSphere
Application Server Network Deployment V5 for iSeries licensed under
subcapacity terms. You may choose to use iSeries Navigator and Service
Agent to collect software inventory from several machines and use a
Service Agent on a central system to send the data to IBM.
For additional information on iSeries Navigator, visit:
For additional information on the Service Agent, visit:
You can choose to license the eligible products either for full capacity
(as in the past) or subcapacity of the machine, depending on your
requirements.
With subcapacity pricing, the number of processors that need to be
licensed is the aggregation of all processors, including partial shares
of a processor, across all partitions of a single machine (where the
program is defined), rounded up to the next highest whole number.
The licensing and pricing of these products is based on the whole number
of processors. On iSeries hardware, processor units are used by the
system to size partitions. One processor unit is equal to the size of
one dedicated processor. (Processor units are not licensed or priced;
they are only used to define the size of a partition.) For example, if a
four-way iSeries machine has WebSphere Application Server V5 for iSeries
and WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V5 for iSeries
running in two partitions sized at 0.6 processor units and 0.7 processor
units, the total number of processing units is 1.3. Because the product
is priced and licensed based on the whole number of processors, this
customer would need two processor licenses for WebSphere Application
Server V5 for iSeries and WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment
V5 for iSeries.
The number of processor units is independent of the number of physical
processors running the logical partitions. For example, if you have
either WebSphere Application Server V5 for iSeries or WebSphere
Application Server Network Deployment V5 for iSeries in a partition sized
at one processor divided equally across four physical processors of the
machine (0.25 processor units of four physical processors), then you have
one processor unit and you would need one processor license of such
product (that is, either WebSphere Application Server V5.0 for iSeries or
WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V5.0 for iSeries). If
you increase the number of processors in logical partitions running a
subcapacity licensed product (by a quantity that makes it round up to a
higher whole number), you must acquire additional license entitlements to
cover the higher number of processors. For example, if you have a
partition sized at 1.6 processor units and have licensed two processors
of WebSphere Application Server V5 for iSeries, and you change the size
of the partition (either dynamically or via operator involvement) to 2.6
processor units, then you need to acquire one additional processor
license.
