IBM Device Support Facilities (ICKDSF) Release 17 is designed to provide full support for the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server (ESS), including support for Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy Extended Distance. This release addresses many long-standing and high-priority customer requirements including:
Release 17 is available in MVS, CMS, VSE and stand-alone versions, and the stand-alone version is now optionally available on CD-ROM.
ICKDSF remains a no-charge offering that is required to install, maintain, and use IBM Direct Access Storage on IBM zSeries processors.
ICKDSF requires a zSeries or System/390® processor and supported connecting IBM Direct Access Storage.
ICKDSF Release 17 has been considerably enhanced. All previous enhancements, which include many direct access storage device and feature support capabilities, have been rolled-up into this release, making it a comprehensive source for device support. So ICKDSF Release 17 now provides broad based support for the ESS, IBM's premier storage offering, with a wealth of copy services and disaster recover capabilities.
The stand-alone version of ICKDSF is now offered on CD-ROM instead of diskette. Use from CD-ROM is much easier, and the enhanced capacity of CD-ROMs will support more ICKDSF function and make room for expansion as new capabilities are added.
ICKDSF Release 17 also incorporates a broad range of high priority customer requirements, many that have been requested for a number of years. Highlights include:
Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act
IBM Device Support Facilities is capable, as of November 22, 2002, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.
ICKDSF is a required, no-charge component of an IBM Direct Access Storage solution for zSeries.

IBM Installation Services are provided for ICKDSF and IBM Direct Access Storage offerings by IBM Global Services or your IBM Business Partner, at a cost. For additional information, contact your IBM representative and ask for Installation Services for Storage offerings.
