Description
ICKDSF Release 17 has been considerably enhanced. All previous
enhancements, which include many direct access storage device and feature
support capabilities, have been rolled-up into this release, making it a
comprehensive source for device support. So ICKDSF Release 17 now
provides broad based support for the ESS, IBM's premier storage offering,
with a wealth of copy services and disaster recover capabilities.
The stand-alone version of ICKDSF is now offered on CD-ROM instead of
diskette. Use from CD-ROM is much easier, and the enhanced capacity of
CD-ROMs will support more ICKDSF function and make room for expansion as
new capabilities are added.
ICKDSF Release 17 also incorporates a broad range of high priority
customer requirements, many that have been requested for a number of
years. Highlights include:
-
All commands can be RACF protected (MVS version only)
-
When an uncorrectable data check is detected during an ANALYZE SCAN, the
data set name can optionally be printed out if the track in error resides
within a data set
-
ICKDSF can check connectivity of devices to help verify, in many cases,
whether or not they are cabled correctly
-
ICKDSF checks for VTOC full condition when refreshing a VTOC or building
an index
-
In the MVS version, ICKDSF no longer requires the volume to be varied
offline to all other sharing systems when building indexes or refreshing,
extending, or building new VTOCs
-
Support for Extended Distance using the Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy (PPRC)
feature of the ESS has been added to this release
-
Extended Distance PPRC support is an example of how ICKDSF support for
Copy Services capabilities on the ESS continue to be selectively enhanced
Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act
IBM Device Support Facilities is capable, as of
November 22, 2002, when used in accordance with IBM's
associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive

Product Positioning
ICKDSF is a required, no-charge component of an IBM Direct Access Storage
solution for zSeries.
