OverviewWebSphere® Everyplace Access for AIX® and Windows® 2000 V4.2 (Everyplace Access V4.2) can enable mobile employees to access your business applications and data from virtually anywhere at any time. It provides a flexible, open, and extendable framework to build new applications or extend existing applications to devices such as handheld computers and mobile phones. When used in combination with WebSphere Portal, Everyplace Access extends the reach of the portal framework to mobile devices. WebSphere Everyplace Access V4.2 replaces the previous release, Everyplace Access V4.1, and includes the following enhancements:
The initial release of Everyplace Access V4.2 is in English and supports the Windows 2000 platform. Shortly thereafter, the product will be modified to include multiple languages and will include support for both AIX and Windows 2000 platforms. DescriptionEveryplace Access V4.2 provides a complete and scalable infrastructure for extending business applications to pervasive devices such as PDAs and smartphones. In order to provide a successful "out of the box" experience, Everyplace Access provides personal productivity features that enable you to start using the product quickly. It also includes application enablement functions that help extend existing and new business applications to the wireless world. Everyplace Access is built on the WebSphere e-business framework which provides the underlying technology for WebSphere Portal and several other IBM software products. This provides a consistent and rapid programming model to create and extend e-business applications. DB2 Everyplace and Lotus Domino Everyplace Enterprise Server (DEES) are included as part of Everyplace Access to enable mobile access to JDBC/ODBC-compliant databases and Domino databases, respectively. Everyplace Toolkit V4.2 The Everyplace Toolkit provides portlet development tools for the Everyplace Access environment. It enables selected content creation, and provides adaptation tools, portlet samples, and an external annotation editor. This provides portlet build, debug, and deploy functions. It also provides markup editors for WML and CHTML with WSSDA functions that are relevant to mobile e-business application development. Everyplace Client Everyplace Client is included in Everyplace Access and provides a single user control interface for the following client agents and applications:
Intelligent Notification Services (INS) INS delivers notification to users, via multiple delivery channels, based on user preferences and subscriptions. Users subscribe to information such as news, weather, or stock, and notifications will be sent via a delivery channel such as SMS, e-mail, or instant messaging. Developers can also extend the INS framework by adding additional delivery channels and subscriptions. Device Management Everyplace Access manages pervasive devices, including the ability to configure the device, distribute software to the device, collect inventory information such as application, hardware, and configuration information. Supported Devices Everyplace Access supports a variety of Pocket PCs, Palm OS devices, and WML-enabled mobile phones. Refer to the Technical Information section for more information. For customers requesting assistance with the planning, implementation, configuration, or integration of Everyplace Access, trained personnel are available from IBM Global Services and from designated Business Partners. Customer Responsibilities: Customers are responsible for acquiring any systems requirements or additional software products that may be needed for their specific environments. They are also responsible for implementing any security measures that are appropriate for their organization. Direct Customer Support: Direct customer support is provided as part of the Passport Software Maintenance options that are included in the Passport Advantage Agreement. This service can enhance customers' productivity by providing voice and electronic access into the IBM support organization. It provides help with answers to questions pertaining to usage, and suspected software defects for eligible products. Information about support, including the Software Support Guide, is available at Packaging: The program is provided on CD-ROMs in a Passport Media Pack and is also available for electronic download via Passport. Everyplace Access V4.1 customers will receive V4.2 according to the terms of their Passport Advantage Agreement. Trade up options are also available for eligible customers. Everyplace Access V4.2 will initially be released in English. Shortly thereafter, it will be modified to include multiple languages, including English. The supported languages are all in the same program code image and the language is selected at the time of installation. After the multiple language release is available, the English-only media pack and electronic download will be withdrawn from marketing on December 31, 2002. The charge structure of Everyplace Access is based on processor installs, with a one-time-charge per processor. Passport customers should order the applicable Passport Advantage part number in a quantity equal to the number of processors on which they install this product. A processor is defined as any system or node executing all or part of Everyplace Access. For example, two 4-way symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) systems, whether standalone or nodes in a larger system, are counted as eight processors. In this situation, order the applicable Passport part number in a quantity of eight. If two single processor systems will be used, order the applicable Passport part number in a quantity of two. In addition to the regular Passport Advantage options for licensing and maintenance, IBM is offering a reduced price trade up to Everyplace Access, V4.2, from any of the following products:
Customers who are eligible for this reduced price should order the appropriate trade part number. The price will be discounted 25% off of their regular entitled Passport discount price. Discounted Pricing for Everyplace Access V4.2 Passport Advantage customers who have purchased DB2 Everyplace, Lotus Domino Everyplace Enterprise Server, or WebSphere Portal (Enable, Extend, or Experience) may acquire Everyplace Access V4.2 for a 25% discount off of their normal Passport price. New Release Information Everyplace Access V4.2 replaces Everyplace Access V4.1. Terms of the Passport Advantage Agreement, as well as the IPLA and the applicable LI, apply to this product. Terms and ConditionsThis product is only available via Passport Advantage. It is not available as shrinkwrap. Licensing: IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA). Proofs of Entitlement (PoE) are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance. License Information (LI) Form Number: The LI is included in softcopy form with the product software.
