Description

Everyplace Access V4.2 provides a complete and scalable infrastructure for extending business applications to pervasive devices such as PDAs and smartphones.

In order to provide a successful "out of the box" experience, Everyplace Access provides personal productivity features that enable you to start using the product quickly. It also includes application enablement functions that help extend existing and new business applications to the wireless world.

Everyplace Access is built on the WebSphere e-business framework which provides the underlying technology for WebSphere Portal and several other IBM software products. This provides a consistent and rapid programming model to create and extend e-business applications.

DB2 Everyplace and Lotus Domino™ Everyplace Enterprise Server (DEES) are included as part of Everyplace Access to enable mobile access to JDBC/ODBC-compliant databases and Domino databases, respectively.

Everyplace Access V4.2 Functionality

Personal Productivity

  • Wireless PIM and e-mail for Lotus Notes® and Microsoft™ Exchange

Everyplace Access supports both synchronization of e-mail and PIM information to PDAs and online viewing of e-mail/PIM information via a Web portlet.

  • Offline portal browsing

Portal content can be synchronized to the client so that a cache of Web pages can be viewed in disconnected mode. Selection of content to be viewed is accomplished through portlet preferences.

  • Online portlet enhancements

Productivity portlets are included in Everyplace Access to provide optimized user experience on PDA devices and WML devices.

  • Database Synchronization (DB2 Everyplace)

Everyplace Access enables synchronization of SQL tables to the DB2 Everyplace embedded database on the client. Any relational database that supports JDBC/ODBC can be synchronized from the server.

  • SyncML Server

Everyplace Access enables the standards-based SyncML.

  • Lotus Domino Everyplace Enterprise Server (DEES)

DEES is provided as part of Everyplace Access to enable the access to Domino databases from the devices.

Everyplace Toolkit V4.2

The Everyplace Toolkit provides portlet development tools for the Everyplace Access environment. It enables selected content creation, and provides adaptation tools, portlet samples, and an external annotation editor. This provides portlet build, debug, and deploy functions. It also provides markup editors for WML and CHTML with WSSDA functions that are relevant to mobile e-business application development.

Everyplace Client

Everyplace Client is included in Everyplace Access and provides a single user control interface for the following client agents and applications:

  • Lotus Mobile Notes™
  • E-mail and PIM functions (SyncML Client)
  • Database synchronization (DB2 Everyplace)
  • Offline Portal browsing
  • IBM device agent

Intelligent Notification Services (INS)

INS delivers notification to users, via multiple delivery channels, based on user preferences and subscriptions. Users subscribe to information such as news, weather, or stock, and notifications will be sent via a delivery channel such as SMS, e-mail, or instant messaging. Developers can also extend the INS framework by adding additional delivery channels and subscriptions.

Device Management

Everyplace Access manages pervasive devices, including the ability to configure the device, distribute software to the device, collect inventory information such as application, hardware, and configuration information.
