IBM HMC Recovery Software for pSeries Delivers Recovery Software via CD-ROM

IBM offers Hardware Management Console (HMC) Recovery Software Release 3 Version 1.0 for pSeries via CD-ROM for the IBM HMC. The HMC Recovery Software CD-ROM is used in conjunction with the HMC. The HMC Recovery Software is an image of the preloaded software on an HMC for servers that require the HMC hardware product. This product is used when the HMC software requires replacement or recovery.
Note: The HMC Recovery Software Release 3 Version 1.0 is also known as HMC Recovery Software V1.3 for pSeries.
This product is licensed under the same terms as the HMC Software program provided with the original HMC system.
The HMC Recovery Software CD-ROM allows continued operation and management of your pSeries system environment in case your HMC system software requires replacement or recovery.
IBM offers Software Maintenance for the HMC Recovery Software for pSeries license program. This offering introduces consistent terms and conditions for pSeries System Software and Distributed System software previously announced in 2001 and early 2002 where support and subscription are included in the first year of the license.
This new offering of Software Maintenance enables a single site or worldwide enterprise customers to maintain software entitlement to current or future versions, releases, or refreshes of the HMC Recovery Software for pSeries license program during the Software Maintenance contract period. One year of Software Maintenance is included automatically for new licenses of programs covered in this announcement. A three-year Software Maintenance option is also available as an extended coverage option.
IBM Software Maintenance for the HMC Recovery Software for pSeries license program is a one-year or three-year contract offering that enables you to maintain software product version and release currency with voice support during normal business hours. You can receive all software product version, release upgrades, or product refreshes announced during the contract period with voice support. If you allow either the one- or three-year software maintenance offering to expire without renewal, there will be a "Subscription After-License" and "Support After-License" option to enable reinstatement.
Definition of Software Upgrade: An upgrade is either a new version (1.x.x to 2.x.x) or a new release (1.1.x to 1.3.x) of the HMC Recovery Software for pSeries license program announced as eligible under Software Maintenance.
Software Maintenance for HMC Recovery Software for pSeries license program entitles you to upgrades from withdrawn HMC software versions and releases to currently available and future HMC software version and releases. Refer to the Ordering Information section for details on how to order.
Note: Software preventative maintenance releases x.x.1 to x.x.2 (modification level changes, updates, or refreshes) are available under the one-year or three-year subscription program numbers when supply features have been announced or when content of an existing supply feature has been changed. Preventative maintenance releases can be obtained by Software Maintenance for HMC Recovery Software for pSeries customers in the same manner as non-Software Maintenance customers. Refer to the Ordering Information section for details on how to order based on your situation.
IBM may announce a product that can be substituted for an enrolled product. This product is neither a new version, new release, nor a preventative maintenance release of that enrolled product. IBM may provide those customers enrolled in the IBM Software Maintenance for HMC Recovery Software for pSeries offering access to this product at a discounted rate. The terms of this transaction will be included in the new product announcement.
Note: IBM will not offer stand-alone upgrades as a standard product offering. Stand-alone upgrades to this product/release, and its future versions and releases, will be considered only on a special request basis from IBM.
Contract Duration: The Software Maintenance for HMC Recovery Software for pSeries contracts are offered for one or three years. The one-year or three-year prepay option must be purchased at the same time a license for an eligible HMC Recovery Software for pSeries licensed program is acquired. Refunds do not apply if cancellation occurs during one- or three-year contract period. Customers are not required to renew under either the one- or three-year offering when the contract expires but will need to use the after-license option should they let the contract expire and want to acquire a new version or release of an eligible HMC Recovery Software for pSeries license program.
If the one- or three-year contracts are not renewed, the one- or three-year contracts will be removed from IBM administrative systems. Contract transfers within an enterprise are allowed.
Notification of Upgrade Availability and Ordering: Changes are currently under way to the Web server where customers can register for e-mail notifications when Software Maintenance is offered. The Software Maintenance component of the Web server will be found at:
Adding New Licenses to an Existing Contract: New software licenses cannot be added to an existing Software Maintenance contract. No proration is allowed. As new Hardware Management Consoles are added, a new Software Maintenance contract must be ordered for those licenses.
Adding Previously Installed Licenses to an Existing Contract: You cannot add installed product licenses to a contract that were not initially covered by an existing contract. These licenses should be added using the subscription/renewal feature under a new and separate Software Maintenance contract. The subscription and support expires when the originally dated Software Maintenance for HMC Recovery Software for pSeries licensed program contracts are not renewed.
Transition from Existing HMC Recovery Software Feature: To allow you to take advantage of the new IBM Software Maintenance for HMC Recovery Software for pSeries, the After-License features for Support and Subscription will be priced equal to the Support/Renewal feature until October 31, 2003. Customers that received the HMC Recovery Software as part of a total solution associated with the purchase of a p670 or p690 are encouraged to acquire Software Maintenance for the HMC Recovery Software before October 31, 2003, to avoid the price increase associated with the after-license features. Customers that received the HMC software as part of a total solution associated with the purchase of a p670 or p690 are eligible to receive an additional discount of 1% per month prior to expiration of the original hardware warranty period. If you are a qualifying customer please contact your IBM sales representative and request the additional discount.
This is the only case where the software program numbers associated the
HMC Recovery Software for pSeries would be tied to the original hardware
machine type and model (7040-671 or 7040-681) for which the HMC was
included in the original system solution. Otherwise, the software
program numbers associated the HMC Recovery Software for pSeries must be
tied to the 7315-C01 HMC.
Accessibility by People with Disabilities
Using Web-based System Manager Remote Client
The HMC user interface can be accessed via the Web-based System Manager Remote Client, which offers full keyboard accessibility and limited support for changing font size. Only limited screen reader support is available in the current release. The Remote Client in the Windows® environment supports the use of assistive technologies that are available in that environment. The Remote Client can be downloaded from the HMC, using procedures described in the HMC product documentation.
Using the Command Line
Many HMC functions are accessible remotely via command line interfaces, which are described in the HMC documentation. Native assistive technologies on the remote client platform support accessibility of the command-line interface. In the Windows environment, for example, the JAWS screen reader can be used to provide text-to-speech conversion for command input and output.

The HMC Recovery Software is a stand-alone program and does not require a prerequisite operating system or application software. The entire image of the HMC software is contained on a single CD-ROM. This does not include user files and customized configuration data.
To support Dynamic Logical Partition (DLPAR) and Capacity Upgrade on Demand (CUoD) on previously shipped systems, including p690 (7040-681) or p670 (7040-671), the HMC hardware system must be upgraded to HMC Recovery Software V1.3. Then the microcode on the previously shipped p690 (7040-681) or p670 (7040-671) systems must be upgraded with the 10/2002 system microcode update.
Your Proof of Entitlement (PoE) for this program is a copy of a paid sales receipt, purchase order, invoice or other sales record from IBM or its authorized reseller from whom you acquired the program, provided that it states the license charge unit (the characteristics of intended use of the program for example, number of processors, number of users) and quantity acquired.
Security, Auditability, and Control
HMC Recovery Software uses the server operating system and network security features for security and auditability.
The customer is responsible for the HMC placement behind the network firewall, if necessary for additional security.
The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.
HMC Recovery Software is a stand-alone product with one charge unit per processor, including software subscription and support services.
New Licensees: License entitlement for HMC Recovery Software for pSeries is based on a single processor for the HMC system 7315-C01. A license for HMC Recovery Software for pSeries (5639-N47), and either a 1-year (5639-SB1 and 5639-ST1) or 3-year (5639-SB3 and 5639-ST3) Software Maintenance contract must be purchased at the same time of purchase of a new 7315-C01 HMC system.

Customization Options: Select the appropriate feature numbers to customize your order with delivery options desired. These features can be specified on the initial or MES orders.

Expedite shipments will be processed to receive 72-hour delivery from the time IBM Software Delivery and Fulfillment (SDF) receives the order. SDF will then ship the order via overnight air transportation.
Preinstall and Single Pallet Delivery: Single pallet delivery consolidates HMC hardware and HMC Recovery Software licensed program orders into a single delivery. Effective with this announcement, HMC Recovery Software will have their entitled media and publications consolidated with the HMC hardware into a single delivery.
When ordered, the HMC hardware (7315-C01) will be preinstalled 100% of the time with the HMC Recovery Software for pSeries license program. Each time an initial order is placed for the HMC hardware (7315-C01) there must be an order placed for the HMC license program (5639-N47), the one-year or three-year HMC Subscription program number (5639-SB1 or 5639-SB3) and the one-year or three-year support program number (5639-ST1 or 5639-ST3) tied to the HMC hardware. No mixing of the one-year or three-year Software Maintenance offerings are allowed.
Terms and Conditions
The following agreements apply for maintenance and do not require customer signatures:
Money-Back Guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program, return it within 30 days from the invoice date, to the party (either IBM or its reseller) from whom you acquired it, for a refund. This applies only to your first acquisition of the Program.
While your Software Maintenance is in effect: IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. This assistance is not available to your end users. IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Guide at:
Software Maintenance does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under this agreement.
