Overview

To help financial institutions remain competitive in the ever-changing world of wholesale payments messaging, IBM delivers a robust, scalable, and flexible financial messaging integration platform.

WebSphere® Business Integration for Financial Networks, part of the WebSphere Business Integration set of offerings, comprises this leading-edge message and network integration platform.

Financial institutions can access various networks or network applications, such as SWIFT Secure IP Network (SIPN) FIN and SIPN InterAct. Based on IBM's industry-leading middleware technology, the open architecture meets today's network integration needs and establishes a foundation for future communications extensions.

A network integration hub and optional communications extensions support back-end payment and securities message processing through SWIFTNet FIN along with the new SWIFTNet application InterAct.

Use the Financial Networks Base to perform common messaging functions such as:

  • Security
  • Event logging and tracking
  • Message warehousing
  • Administrative tasks

The optional Financial Networks Extension for SWIFTNet (Extension for SWIFTNet) is a logical migration path for shifting IBM MERVA X.25-based SWIFT FIN messaging traffic over the SWIFT Secure IP Network (SIPN) to help protect your investment in MERVA.

Key Prerequisites

Refer to the Hardware Requirements and Software Requirements sections.

Description

WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks foundation of services allow financial institutions to centralize common tasks such as:

  • Controlling access to resources
  • Recording audit data
  • Logging events and storing messages

The advantage of sharing these services includes simplified operations, improved productivity, and consolidation/centralization of resources.

The Financial Networks Extension for SWIFTNet offers a solution to financial institutions that need to migrate from the X.25-based SWIFT Transport Network (STN) to SWIFT's new SIPN. A bridge enables you, as IBM MERVA customers, to redirect traffic to the SIPN. It also supports SWIFTNet InterAct. You can configure, administer, operate, and monitor any number of SWIFT Alliance Gateway (SAG) workstations centrally.

This product is provided in International English only.

Product Positioning

WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks provides the financial messaging integration platform for enabling SWIFT and other networks message consolidation.

For financial market customers, the WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Markets provides the process flows and additional external connections needed for straight-through processing requirements around virtual matching utilities like GSTPA and OMGEO.

Tivoli® Access Manager for Business Integration is a complementary solution to WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks.

It upgrades MQ-based application's MQ link-level data protection services to a full application level, end-to-end data protection model, without the need to modify or change existing MQ-based applications. This is critical if you need to demonstrate message integrity and confidentiality for the entire life cycle of financial transactions. It can also provide detailed security audit records down to a specific message documenting that the security policy in place was successfully implemented.

These services are above and beyond the security built into WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks, which is designed to secure access to the SWIFT network.

Tivoli Monitoring for Business Integration can provide a complete management solution for WebSphere MQ and WebSphere MQ Integrator®, allowing systems administrators to configure, monitor, and manage these products across host and distributed platforms.

The WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks tier is determined by the volume of SWIFTNet FIN and SWIFTNet InterAct live traffic handled by the product. It corresponds to the monthly peak messages for all requests sent and received by WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks. The peak volumes are measured based on current IBM MERVA volumes. They will be adjusted on an annual basis.

The pricing for WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks are based on the customer's current IBM MERVA monthly message volume over the last 12 months. That data is obtained by having the customer run the DCLOG utility from the IBM MERVA operator console. That average monthly message volume is used to select the proper features and related prices from the WebSphere Business Integration for Financial Networks pricing table.
