Overview

IBM Director V4.1 is the latest release of the industry-leading workgroup management application for Intel®-based systems. IBM Director consists of an impressive suite of systems management tools that deliver superior hardware manageability. It enables customers to realize maximum system availability and lower IT costs.

IBM Director's industry-standard foundation enables heterogeneous hardware support and works with a variety of operating systems and network protocols. As the sole systems management application in an environment, it can provide a complete management solution for inventorying hardware features and settings, general system information, invoking proactive systems management functions, and providing a direct link to IBM service and support Web pages. Leveraging industry standards allows for easy integration with other systems management tools and applications.

IBM Director V4.1 Server Plus Pack is a new set of tools that extends the capabilities of IBM Director for advanced server management, resulting in optimal performance and maximum availability. These five additional tools are tightly integrated with IBM Director for consistent management from a single console.

Description

IBM Director V4.1 is the latest release of the industry-leading client/server workgroup manager. Use as stand-alone or with existing enterprise or workgroup management environments. It lets you leverage the Internet to securely access and manage physically dispersed IT assets more efficiently.

Its tools provide customers with flexible capabilities to realize maximum system availability and lower IT costs. With IBM Director, IT administrators can view and track the hardware configuration of remote systems in detail and monitor the usage and performance of critical components, such as processors, disks, and memory.

In addition to the enhancements in V4.1, there are also enhanced extensions for IBM customers who want advanced capabilities. IBM Director Server Plus Pack consists of five additional tools for advanced server management to help optimize performance and maximize availability. These tools are tightly integrated with IBM Director for consistent management from a single console.

IBM Director can be extended for even greater management and optimization of xSeries servers. The IBM Director Server Plus Pack includes five enhanced, powerful, comprehensive tools for advanced server management to help optimize performance and maximize availability. These tools are tightly integrated with IBM Director for consistent management from a single console.

  • Capacity Manager — Tracks resource utilization, identifies multiple levels of existing or potential bottlenecks, and makes recommendations to improve performance. By predicting future server bottlenecks and proactively alerting IBM Director, automated corrective actions can be put in place to minimize downtime.
  • Software Rejuvenation — Provides heuristics-based rejuvenation of server platforms enabling potential future outages to be averted automatically. Predicts pending software failures that could lead to costly downtime and can automatically refresh the software for optimal operation.
  • System Availability — Tracks and provides a variety of graphical views of system downtime or uptime for an individual system or group of systems, saving labor costs associated with remotely managing and tracking server performance and availability.
  • Rack Manager — Configure and manage a rack by dragging and dropping elements on a realistic graphical depiction of the rack and provides health status information of the rack and its components.
  • Active PCI Manager — Optimizes server throughput and performance by determining the best placement for PCI cards. You can analyze the current configuration of cards and PCI bus to determine if they are being used in the most optimal way.
